I ordered spicy tuna rolls and Philadelphia rolls for take out and it was very well done! The rice wasn’t dry and the fresh tasted fresh. The pricing is very fair for what you get and I would definitely order from them again.

Not sure how all the 1 star reviews kept this place at 4 stars. I should have skimmed through the reviews rather than going off the overall rating. The fish is not fresh. You can see the discoloring in the sushi combo. I added the uni and should have stayed clear of it given its murky color as well. But I was hoping to save the meal with it. It was not at all fresh. I couldn’t keep it down. Stay clear of this place fellow sushi lovers.

I love this place! Great food, service and prices. I had an amazing roll in Hawaii, and they will make the roll for me here. Very friendly staff. Thank you!

So hard to say no to sushi! We got 3 rolls to share among 2 people and had a few pieces as leftovers. We came here on a Wednesday night and there wasn’t a lot of people so the wait for our food wasn’t too long considering we got a couple baked rolls and those usually take longer. We got the Volcano Roll, Dynomite Roll, and the Rainbow Roll which were all decent, but I wasn’t super impressed by any of them. The flavors were good and the fish/seafood was fresh which is always appreciated. Overall, this place was decent.

Writing my review based only on hibachi. The food was horrible. Where is the show? Where is the hot grill? Food came out cold and flavorless. Will not return. I guess Benihana is the only place to get real hibachi and that’s also a horrible choice. Never returning.

Came here with a friend, and we both ordered miso soup and the summer roll. Decent prices and good portion size. We did, however, have to flag down the waitress a few times, even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. Overall — good sushi.

I’ve never actually physically been to this place — I always order from there via an external delivery service. It’s ALWAYS great. I eat a decent amount of sushi and their Lion King roll is definitely my favorite. That’s the case with many other rolls, too, but Lion King is usually my go-to. Love this place!

The chicken teriyaki, which they told me was made from the hibachi, was chewy. The summer roll just didn’t have that fresh quality. I’m sure it meets standards, but that’s about it. The salad looks over-dressed. I did like the shrimp tempura. Miso soup was decent. The service was also fine.

Good sushi. Quiet place. I was ready to give them five stars when I learned that they have a $ 60 minimum charge for American Express. I understand a minimum charge, especially since I know Amex charges merchants high fees, but $ 60 is excessive for a restaurant. Extremely excessive. And now they’ve asked me not to return because I posted this review.

Yummy but worst service ever! There were very few people there when we were seated yet we waited 15 minutes to order. We were ignored literally the entire time, inexplicably. I had to get up four times to get napkins, more chopsticks, a spoon, another bowl. Not once did anyone check on us. Two servers with three tables, but zero service! I am completely stumped. It’s a shame because lunch was yummy, but no way would I return

This is yet another restaurant that doesn’t look that attractive on the outside, it’s off the downtown strip of redwood city and not that busy on a Sunday lunch. The food though(and the price) was amazingly good. We ordered the gyoza, age tofu, sashimi appetizer and spicy salmon hand roll. The tofu was a bit disappointing as it was a little hard not the soft tofu I am used to. The sashimi was fresh(8 pieces of fat juicy fish assortment, $ 10), and spicy salmon hand roll($ 3.5) hits the right spot with just the right amount of spice. Overall the price is very reasonable for quality food! Service was great and prompt. Will come back again whenever I crave raw fish.

When I think of Hibachi, my thoughts immediately go to BenniHana. Well Ahi Sushi is nothing like BenniHana. The ambiance is a lot more casual and they will cook the hibachi in the back and bring it out to you. However, if you just want the food and not the show then you’ve found it. The service here is attentive and they seat you quite quick since they’re usually quite empty or kinda full. The Hibachi Dinner plates are priced fair for the quality and the amount of food that they give you. I myself love hibachi lobster and that’s what I got here. Although it’s not as good as BenniHana it’s still soft, flavorful and filling. Best of all it’s $ 19 compared to $ 39.50. The Filet Mignon Plate is also quite good as well and better priced as well in comparison. When we were done, we were so full and almost had to roll ourselves out the door.

Love the food at this place but I only gave it 4 stars as the owner’s wife/girlfriend is very nosey. She asks so many personal questions and continues to ask even more each time we visit the restaurant. I don’t mind talking about myself when asked but she pries into deeper personal subjects and it makes us feel uncomfortable. I am not sure if it is a cultural thing but I am sure that no matter what nationality you are you would NOT be comfortable with the questions she always asks. We’ve heard her do this with other customers as well so it isn’t just us. Again, we do love the food at this place. I will change it to 5 stars if the wife/girlfriend learns to stop asking so many personal questions. Hopefully she will read this review and get the hint.

Excellent food for an extremely reasonable price. Good qualify for good value. The only reason I knocked off a star was because my sister-in-law got hamachi Kama, and it took forever for her food to come out. Granted, I’m glad it was fresh. But the rest of us were pretty much done eating by the time she got her food. Regardless, I’ll definitely be back!

This place is cheap and pretty darn good. I will say that, fairly consistently, at least one piece of sushi tastes a little«fishy», but this could easily just be that I’m not quick enough to pick the food up. Do be mindful of how quickly sushi can turn once it’s off ice if you get takeout!

I walked in here on a Sunday around 11:45am and to my surprise, there was only 1 other family eating here. With the reviews on Unilocal,I thought this place would be packed. We were seated very quickly and offered tea and water. There was one lady in the restaurant serving everyone(aka 2 tables). For the most part, she was on her phone watching something. But she took our orders and brought us our food promptly. She was a very VERY soft spoken woman and I struggled a bit to hear her in a thoroughly quiet restaurant. Our food was, however, delicious. We ordered a rainbow roll, a volcano roll, unagi roll and hamachi roll. I thought they all tasted very fresh and good. The volcano roll was spicy but delicious. I really thought the rainbow roll was the best. The fish was fatty and fresh unlike many other places. The rice was cooked great too! Overall, this place is quaint and yummy and definitely a place to check out if you’re in the mood for sushi!

Being in an MBA program limits my ability to go out for the night. But with the holiday break, I had one last day of freedom and this is where I wanted to spend it. My boyfriend and I had attempted to visit Ahi Sushi Hibachi on previous occasions, but the line out the door prompted us to try another place close by. This particular rainy Sunday, we were the only patrons for most of our meal, so the ambiance was very chill. I know a lot of sushi snobs harp on the freshness of the fish and the overall purity of each roll(no seasonings, etc). But my brand of snobbery is around the rice. Many institutions that dish out massive amounts of sushi don’t pay attention to the quality and taste of their rice, often overcooking it so that the grains are split and mushy and there are bits of rice residue that connects each grain. While this does, in fact, make it more structurally sound as a roll, it loses the consistency that is the hallmark of good sushi. Ahi Sushi Hibachi, I’m proud to report, has amazing quality rice, and artful house rolls. My boyfriend and I shared the Black Dragon Roll, which was avocado, cucumber and crab with unagi topping. I’m always a huge fan of unagi and this did not disappoint. I also ordered the white tuna toro, which was perfection in its consistency. And my boyfriend had a delicious vegetarian roll that I only had one piece of, being totally concentrated on my own dishes. We certainly will be back, and maybe rainy days are the best for this wonderful establishment. :)

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday. Sat at the sushi bar. Service and sushi were good. Had the summer roll and enjoyed it very much. Only place I’ve found a roll combining all of my favorites — crab, spicy tuna, avacado, and fresh salmon. Will be back.

I had gyoza, tempura, and sashimi lunch. Bland. Uninspiring. Unilocal ratings are inflated. This place is a legitimate two-star. It is rated same as Sushi Main St., which is an absurd travesty. Only come here if Monday and nothing else open(e.g., Vesta closed today).

More than a year later and our love for Ahi Sushi and Hibachi continues to grow, still the one, and always will be. –Great food (Always something new to try, scope out the specials) –Their generous selection of sashimi, nigiri, and maki are always served up fresh and delicious (Best sake(salmon) toro I’ve ever had) –Caring and attentive service (Drinks and stomachs are never empty) –Amazing Chefs (Ask them to whip up something special just for you) The atmosphere is casual and inviting, come here to enjoy a night with good friends and fabulous food. Kevin(owner and head chef) and Dani always make us feel at home. I seriously cannot say enough awesome stuff about Ahi. Give them a shot the next time you’re craving sushi in a fun, relaxed environment. You won’t regret it. As glowing as this sounds I swear it’s all true. Eat here now! Kanpai!

This place is good to come for lunch or dinner with a few people or in a group. The price is average(anywhere from 10 – 20 bucks). The Sushi is 5⁄5 for me, but this time I got the Hibachi Steak and Salmon. The Salmon still had the skin on it which I did not like, and was a bit on the rare side. Also the portions was very tiny! The filet mingon steak was very delicious but again, the portion was very small… For $ 17, I would expect not to be hungry… I was still hungry so I ordered the sake roll… Overall I had a better experience here before, but this time with $ 23 total with tip, I left feeling unsatisfied.

My husband and I wanted to grab some takeout before we left California, so we decided to give this place a shot based on Unilocal reviews. I called the restaurant and a man answered«Hello?» No, «Thanks for calling Ahi Sushi» or «Hi, Ahi Sushi» or anything that might identify that I had, in fact, called the restaurant. It kind of caught me off guard, but when I asked if this was the restaurant in question they said yes, and I placed my order. The staff was very nice when we arrived, greeting us with smiles. The man who rang us up at the register immediately asked if we wanted to add a tip because he has to add it on the front end. It was a little rude the way he asked, but I told him to go ahead and round it up several dollars. Everybody said thank you like 4 times on our way out the door. The restaurant itself seemed fine; there was a gross aquarium with no fish by the door. We saw a few couples eating there. The food: I got the filet and chicken hibachi, and my husband got the shrimp and chicken hibachi and the Lion King Roll that other Unilocal reviews raved about. Each meal came with soup, salad, rice, and mixed veggies. Lion King Roll: I don’t like sushi, but my husband said it was not very good. When he opened the container, it did NOT look like sushi because it was covered with so much, as hubs called it, «goop sauce.» Soup: miso with tofu chunks; this was hot & super delicious Salad: fresh veggies but I’m personally not a fan of the creamy/mayonnaise ginger dressing that seems to be so popular these days. I adore the tangy vinaigrette style; this, not so much. Filet: delicious. No complaints. Chicken: gross. Definitely not white meat, lots of gristle, burnt in places. Very sweet. Fried rice: fine with lots of soy sauce added Bottom line, would not eat here again.

Whenever a place has a rating suspiciously high, pay attention to the reviews that say«I don’t know how this has 4 stars!» It’s a sad, below average, non-authentic Japanese restaurant. My pork ramen was in chicken broth(which you’d never find in Japan) and the noodles were clumpy. The pork was good and plentiful, though overly lean. My wife’s bento box was just ok, but the salmon sashimi wasn’t fresh and the CA roll was bland. There are better options nearby.

How does this place have 4 stars? Everything I tried was not good. I split a few items with my boyfriend: uni nigiri, seafood udon, lion king roll, spicy scallop hand roll, and salmon skin hand roll. Let me start with the most memorable dish. the uni. It was horrible. I’ve never had bad uni before but now that I know what it tastes like, I’ll be more wary of where I choose to order my uni… It had a really gross taste to it and was hard for me to finish. Two of my friends also ordered the uni and did not like it. We were worried we’d get sick from it. luckily we didn’t. The seafood udon was bland. I love udon and I didn’t even want to eat that much of this dish since there wasn’t much flavor. There wasn’t even a lot of seafood in it. The way it was presented also made it appear very small. too much broth and too big of a bowl for the amount of noodles and seafood. The lion king roll was alright but not great. Nothing about it made me want another piece besides the fact that I needed to eat something. It was super creamy but not a lot of flavor. My boyfriend and I both thought the sauce for the spicy scallop hand roll was strange. I had one bite and did not want anymore of that. The salmon skin hand roll was ok but not worth getting again. Overall it was a disappointing experience here. The only good thing about it was the service.

Ahi Sushi & Hibachi is located on Broadway, across the street from Grocery Outlet. It’s on a quiet part of the street, and it feels a tiny bit sketchy at night since there’s not much around it. The staff here are very friendly. I like that. Service was fine as well. The menu here is, well, sushi and hibachi. I don’t really eat sushi so I ordered hibachi chicken instead, with a side of ikura for $ 2. The prices seem reasonable but I thought the food was just okay. The ikura didn’t taste that fresh. The hibachi chicken was not that flavorful, and I had to add soy sauce to give it some saltiness. The vegetable fried rice was good, surprisingly — it tastes like something I would make. I would come back for the rice.

Update: I’ve been back to this restaurant many times now, and it’s become my favorite sushi restaurant in Redwood City. I highly recommend: lion king roll, any of the special ashi sushi maki rolls, lobster roll, dragon roll, and firecracker roll. Great service, really friendly owners, and delicious rolls.

My bf and I tried this place because of the high star ratings and rave reviews. However, I contend everyone is just a bit star happy here and should probably venture out beyond this seedier end of Broadway. The furnishings in here are of the light birchwood colored chairs with shoji screen style lighting and Japanese art along the walls. If you’re into sushi bars like us, you’ll be greatly disappointed. We like to see the fish behind the window and see the sushi chef work his magic. Some personality back there is sure to bring us back. However, there’s just a nice guy who works back there but doesn’t take your order which was fine. The sake menu is the simplest we’d ever seen but no big deal. They have one choice of filtered or unfiltered sake — both of which are good picks for a limited selection. The service here was great. Our waitresses were friendly and attentive. We ordered the 12 pc sashimi dinner which was super average. There was little presentation beyond the typical shredded daikon garnish on the plate. The pieces themselves were generous in size but lacked the fresh buttery tastes. My bf did not enjoy his saba but ate it anyway. I must have gotten lucky with my uni. My spicy tuna handroll was also not that great. The fish did not taste fresh, and lacked kick in flavors. The salmon skin roll was the much better choice which did have some tastiness to it. The salads although typical were larger in portion than most sushi joints. The miso was large and nice. The best dishes were those which were cooked. That grilled black miso cod was soooo delectable and probably my favorite here. The Jalapeño Bomb was also a good one. They come large and are a great combination of flavors lodged in fresh jalapeños. Those two were far better than the sushi here which seems to be the case with cooked food here. As far as the awesome service and some of the great dishes here, the atmosphere leaves more to be desired. That aged green carpet has seen better days. Perhaps some of the clientele has some impact. There was a family of five in the middle of the dining area with a huge stroller and kids playing musical chairs as the meal came to an end. Mom and dad were complacent as if they were in their own home. I wouldn’t have noticed much had the sushi bar not had Nickelodeon on the whole time subjecting us to the likes of Barney style Saturday morning cartoons on a Saturday night. The prices here are very reasonable, but it’s all around overrated. I’d return for lunch but never again for dinner.

I really liked this place.. what they lack presentation in their dishes they make it up with the friendly customer service and the amazing food and quality. And their prices are very reasonable as well. we have an amazing dinner for two and were overly full and it just cost us 40 buks. We ordered the himachi chicken dinner, which was delicious, but like i said earlier the presentation was bad, it was just chicken & grilled veggies what looked like piled on the plate. but they tasted so good. their sushi rolls are amazing. they look like they are loaded the biggest sashimi i have every seen on a roll. also got a salmon tuna poke which tasted awesome as well. I will definitely come back here, if you are craving sushi and are in the area definitely check this place.
