Super good for a quick bite to eat(unless they are busy, there will be a wait). This place is a bit small, but the food is amazing. Would definitely recommend for someone that is looking for good flavored and tasting Mexican food.

I highly recommend this place because for over two years I’ve been looking for proper mexican food in bay area. I was so shocked how bad mexican food is in bay area with all the mexican population. This is the place has california burrito and carne asada fries that resembles ones from San Diego(can’t beat Lolita’s taco shop still). Forget all stinky el gruenses in redwood city. Yeah this place doesn’t look very legit and it’s inside of a market place, but if quality matters this is the right place for you.

I love the vegetarian burrito. Every time I visit Redwood City this is our first stop. We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. There are always new specials and a wide variety of staple favorites. They have grown to other locations but this is the one I have always gone to.

Great burritos and nachos! Their tortas and tacos are pretty good too. Sad though because the meat portions used to be very generous, and I’ve noticed lately that the amount of meat in my orders has decreased significantly. Their agua frescas are great, but options are limited and vary each time you go. So if you have a favorite flavor or two, don’t count on it being there every time you go. Still since this taqueria is in grocery store there are plenty of refrigerated drink options besides the agua fresca.

Check out my earlier review on the Carnitas Burrito. I just had the Barbacoa Super Burrito, and it was mucho AVERAGE. Disappointed, because it didn’t taste like anything beyond ‘meat’. Doesn’t Barbacoa mean a yummy marinade flavor, as it is the ancestor of the word Barbeque? Don’t order it :/

I think we need to give them credit for the fancy commercials playing on our TV cause prior to seeing that, I had never even heard of these folks. We showed up starving! Waited online for about 10 minutes and that’s not all that bad. If my large intestines weren’t chowing on my small intestines, 10 minutes wouldn’t feel like an eternity. Super breakfast burrito caught my attention immediately and that was an excellent choice indeed. Ginormous burrito loaded to the gills with fresh chorizo, scrambled eggs, salsa, guacamole and cheese. Delicioso. The market itself is kinda small, but has all the amenities you actually need. Very little waster space in this store. Bread/Pastries: My wife bleeds 100% Mexican blood and she calls the Mexican pastries bread. I call em pastries. She’s my wife, so they are bread. Freshest bread we’ve had at any of the Mexican markets and a good, not great selection. The star of the show, in my eyes at least, is the butcher shop. Absolutely spotless counter tops, knives cleaned immediately after use, excellent prices, even more excellent discounted prices of tremendous cuts of meat and definitely my new favorite butcher shop. 3.5 pound beautifully cleaned pork loin, wonderful color and an absolute treat for Sunday dinner. $ 2.89/lb is a steal. I could easily overpay at Whole Paycheck or even Safeway and not get the quality of this spot.

A great place to stop for some fresh fruit or a few cuts of meat. Also has a nice small restaurant and bakery section attached. It’s a one-stop shop for many of your cooking needs.

This use to be one of my favorite taqueria’s. For years it was a routine destination for me when I had visitors from out of town, especially other countries. I would brag that this was best Mexican food in regards to quality and price. Well, all good things apparently need to come to an end. It is time to move on to the next taqueria. The prices have risen dramatically. $ 9.49 for a super burrito(once upon a time, it seems not too long ago, it was $ 5.99). Even worse, the place has resorted to one of the most irritating practices in a restaurant: weighing the meat in front of the customer before making each menu item. I have seen them take the meat, put in on a scale, and remove a tiny piece(maybe the size of a quarter) to bring the portion down to whatever amount they were told to use by the management. Of course, they make up shorting the meat by using extra rice and beans as filler. I assume they think the customers will not notice. Also, the guacamole and sour cream has mysteriously gotten very liquidly. I suspect they are diluting the guacamole and sour cream. Oh well …

One of my favorite burrito shops on the peninsula! I’ve been coming here for years now and always come back! Love their super burritos, frescas and unlimited varieties of flaming chips! If you are expecting service, this is not the place. If you are expecting great food(which is all I care about for this price), you must try this place!

Not sure what happened, but when I went for tacos recently something changed. I ordered 3 tacos($ 3 ea, pricey for the Bay Area), there was a long wait and the food I got was not resembling any tacos I’ve had before. The tacos were just piled with beans and salsa, and when I attempted to eat one, I discovered there were large pieces of BONE in the tacos. It would be 1 star review except that I’m hoping this is just a temporary issue because I ate there before and it was decent.

Chavez has birria(goat stew) every day. For that fact alone, it gets five stars because most other Mexican places that have birria will only have it on the weekends. Birria is a traditional dish of my peoples, and Chavez nails it. Love getting it in their super burritos, or their quesadillas, or just by itself because I’m fond of goat meat. For you less adventuresome folks, carnitas or carne asada are also stellar. The supermarket’s got basically everything you ever need if you’re wanting to make Mexican food for yourself, as well. You can get whole cactus leaves, and they also have them already diced and ready to use. The butcher’s area in back has their red and green salsas, as well as guacamole. With avocados being priced the way they are these days, it’s easier and more cost effective to just buy it already made. Also, walnut yogurt is amazing. Bottom Line: I hearts Chavez so much, and maybe it’s because I grew up in a Mexican household, but more likely they’re really *that* good.

Loved this place. You can see that a lot of locals go there. The food is yummy and authentic. My only complaint is that wait time can be long. But again that means that the place is popular. Recommended.

This place is seriously legit. It’s tiny and you can miss it when you drive by. The parking in front is awkward, but the food is amazing. I usually get the tostada with carna asada or the breakfast burrito and those both satisfy and delight my taste buds. Its also a mini store too so you can get meats to cook up and all other things you need

Don’t come here! This was the worst service ever not to mention the Tamales had no flavor and were very dry. My entire family went to eat and we all ordered different things. My son ordered a Torta but only ate ½ and the other untouched ½, we boxed it to-go. ½ of the family went to go get sweet bread(by the way it was very hard also) the other ½ stayed. The bus boy came to clean our table and dropped my son’s Torta on the ground. he was very sorry and I understand it was an accident. I would have expected them to do the right thing and replace it on their own but they didn’t. My mother walked up to the counter and told the cashier. They made ¼ of a torta with 3 strings of meat, wrapped the torta in a form of a ball smashing it and threw it to me across the counter. I could not believe it I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. he was mimicking me behind the counter! I went to the cashier to ask for the owner. I explained to the owner that was on his way out of the store. he didn’t care. I cant believe what kind of example the manager is giving the other employees. told me if I choose not to go again then that was my choice. In my opinion this place of business does NOT deserve our business! ! Will never go again and tell all my friends and family not to ever give them business.

Ok. I was here yesterday on my lunch break(yes, Christmas Eve). Apparently, if you don’t speak spanish or are not wearing a law enforcement uniform, you won’t get service… Good food but I won’t go back…

This place is just great. Down to getting a quick authentic fix for my mexican food or that place I know I can find Chipotle Peppers in Adobo sauce when I need it ASAP. The fresh salsa is also a winner at any potluck or other event which you host or show up at…

With one of the densest populations of taquerias, Redwood City almost must be visited to just try all the affordable taco and burrito places. Chavez Supermarket & Taqueria, housed inside a larger grocery store, is one of the more popular choices and in Redwood City alone has two locations. I stopped by early in the morning and one thing that you have to love about those taco shops, besides their affordable prices, is their great hours, whether late at night or early in the morning. There’s a comprehensive menu above and you place your order beneath and then pay a cashier when your order is ready. My sampling: Horchata — freshly made horchata and agua frescas are available and I just couldn’t resist ordering a large. It has a great cinnamon flavor and is super refreshing. One of the better versions I’ve had. A large isn’t exactly cheap though at $ 3.49. Super Taco — most reviews suggest you order the super tacos, which are priced at $ 3.99 each. While it’s not the budget $ 1.50 prices I’m used to, the super tacos do have a noticeably greater amount of meat, cheese, guacamole, and toppings. I opted for the lengua(beef tongue) and particularly liked the seasoned flavor. I wanted to order the al pastor but was told it wouldn’t be ready for 20 minutes(bet it would have tasted good though). Instead, I opted for the carnitas and while it was nice they freshly shredded a large pork piece, I found the seasoning to be a bit lacking and the pork meat to be a bit dryer than I liked. I also walked around the market and saw a solid selection of various cuts of meat(also the source for all the taco meats) and a few aisles of grocery items, including fresh breads and tortillas(also the source for the taqueria). Overall, I like the casual feel and the seating space(about 6 – 8 small tables near the taqueria). Service is quick and fast and the quality is good. Prices are a tad bit higher than some nearby spots, but Chavez Supermarket & Taqueria also accepts credit cards as part of the grocery store, including American Express. It was a convenient and unexpected perk given they don’t have an ATM in store.

What no chips! We went to Chavez for super nachos… We were surprised to hear sorry no chips! Is that possible in a taqueria? We walked out and went someplace else, not to return anytime soon!!!
