I ordered delivery from here and I have to say, the reviews for the food don’t do it justice — however, I did not go to the restaurant itself so I cannot comment on the service. At first, after I ordered from grubhub, I went on Unilocal to check out some reviews while waiting. I started to regret my decision after seeing that it said«Open 11am-3pm» CLOSEDNOW on the hours. I immediately contacted grubhub who assured me that my delivery was on the way. Lo-and-behold, within 45min of ordering, my food arrived. My boyfriend even said«ALREADY? I thought you just ordered?»… The delivery guy was nice — not too much talking and since tip was already paid on the card, it was a quick transaction and he did not complain about how far my house was(It is probably on the outskirts of where the restaurant is as I’m actually in Forest Hills — a good 10−15min bicycle ride from the restaurant) On to the review of the food… We ordered chicken curry, chicken tikki masala, samosas and naan. The naan was not bad and also not oily but felt like it was missing some flavor… but with the curry, it was delicious. The chicken curry was VERY flavorful and wasn’t too overpowering. My boyfriend is picky when it comes to curry and he really liked this one. i could have just shared the chicken curry with my bf since the portion is pretty good and came with a big plate of rice. The tikki masala was good but felt like there was too much yogurt in it but all in all, pretty good. I ate part of the samosas but was too full already so we’re saving that for later. For the price and portion, I think it was a very good deal. I will definitely order from here again!

I love the food here but the manager became increasingly creepy over the years when I use to frequent this spot with my girlfriend. At one point he sat down next to my girlfriend and kept talking to her making us both feel uncomfortable. I told him be professional. That was the last time I came here. Then about a year ago I chose them to cater for my friend’s bachelor party. He personally delivered the food and asked for a big tip even though prior to ordering he said there would be no tip AND kept pestering me about my girlfriend. Incredibly unprofessional.

This place is a complete shit hole. We reserved a wedding ceremony«Nikkah» which is the actual wedding, and no one of the partners/owners ever answered the phone to come in to try the food we ordered. And when we went yesterday to try the food, keeping in mind that the WEDDING is in 6 days… One partner sat us down along with the man Hossain who booked our entire event and they said that the other party going on called yesterday saying they have 150 more guests so they can no longer accomodate the WEDDING… The partners/owners are all awful and have no idea what the hell they’re doing. YOUCANNOTCANCEL A WEDDING6DAYSBEFORE. We signed a contract and paid $ 400 deposit towards this event. We will be taking legal action towards these stupid«partners» of a so called business. And it is all because of the money which is the worst part. Mr. Kulur and Mr. Hossain were MIA after the news and never came back to speak with us; leaving us with Zahid and he knew nothing and had no sympathy of ruining a planned wedding. This place is a dump, and the food was less than mediocore. I suggest no one plan an event here nor try the food. I am disgusted with the awful management and zero idea of ownership/partnership. If I could give this place 0 stars I would most definitely.

The dishes we ordered were pretty good and service i thought was great. However, when we came to eat, we were the only people in the restaurant. Place is old and super out dated, which made us feel a bit uncomfortable. On another night, i did see a lot of people going to their basement for a wedding, so hopefully they make their business from there.

Had my wife’s baby shower here. The place was TERRIBLE! Specifically, the service was the worst. The shower was held in the restaurant. They were told to expect 50 – 60 people and when my wife and I arrived, there were not enough chairs. They said that they didn’t have enough chairs. Also, there was little air conditioning on a hot June Sunday. Further, the pitchers of water and soda were rarely refilled. Lastly, the buffet dishes were not labelled. Most people had no idea what they were eating. I would definitely NOT recommend eating here. The food was adequate at best but the service was HORRIBLE! Thank goodness that at least the bathroom was clean.

Maurya is a fancy Indian Restaurant with very little business. Came to Maurya for my Saturday date night after getting a deal on Groupon. My $ 22 voucher included 2 entrees, rice and naan. To my surprise, all fish entrees were not included with our choice of entrees– this was not specified on the Groupon voucher. Nevertheless, the waiters were very attentive and helpful in suggesting the best dish. Overall, the food was pretty good. The naan was freshly made and the paneer tikka masala was tasty but could have been creamier. This restaurant is very expensive compared to the nearby competition, so I probably wouldn’t go back anytime soon.

I went to Maurya Banquet last night for a wedding and was prepared for the worst after reading the reviews. Not even the worst reviews on the site could have prepared me for what I was about to encounter. The naan was soggy, the rice was stuck together and disgusting, the beef was burned, everything was oily and absolutely awful. It was a wedding, so I can acknowledge that the food wouldn’t be all that glamorous since giving everyone lamb would have been expensive, but not a single thing, except the ice cream, tasted even mediocre. Even the coke and sprite were disgusting! They fill the jug that they put coke and sprite in with a mixture of the soft drink and water. The coke had no fizz and the sprite could easily be mistaken for just water. Not only that, but the seats were stained and disgusting. The speaker system was terrible –we couldn’t hear anything that was going on. The waitstaff was terrible too. When they ran out of forks, my sister told the woman and she promptly screamed out to her coworker to get more. They also dropped a basket full of plates and the woman also screamed at a kid running around. The waitstaff is totally unprofessional. For the sake of your wedding guests, never get married here.

Been here several times for parties. The main hall is kind of nice, if a bit outdated(the bathrooms are disgusting though). As for the food, it’s your standard Indian fare, a variety of meat and vegetarian options. Not amazing, but not terrible either.

I’m not too picky about my Indian food, and I have to admit the food at Maurya satiates my Indian food cravings. I’ve come here with my family twice in the past year because it’s walking distance from our place, and because of the Groupons. On the most recent occasion, we ordered chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, lamb saag, and goat masala. Although the saag could have had more meat in it, everything was pretty tasty. The chicken in the masala was not dry, and all the sauces were good. My favorite part of the meal has got to be the naan, they gave us these really gigantic, fluffy pieces and it’s a perfect accompaniment to all the flavorful dishes. However, this restaurant feels SO eerie to me. The both times we’ve come to eat, we were the only patrons in the restaurant… and it feels so awkward with my family just in the middle of this big empty restaurant. How do they sustain themselves? is our food even fresh? My dad claims they make their money from hosting parties and weddings, but sitting alone in the dining room still made me feel slightly uneasy. I’d come back if I had another Groupon deal; otherwise, I would not pay that much to have such an unsettling experience eating Indian food in an empty(kind of ghostly) restaurant.

This place get a big fat zero! I gave it a star because I can’t leave it empty!!! We bought a groupon that stated you could eat up to $ 50.75 worth of food. Well, the waiter(who was rude and annoyed at us being there) said no seafood. We were ok with that, so we ordered lamb and chicken-only things we could! Total for those dishes-$ 26.90, he said the only other things we could order were sides of rice-1 each at $ 2.95, and one side of naan at $ 2.95, for a total of $ 35.75! My husband paid $ 22 for this groupon that was advertised as 56% off, you don’t need to be a math genius to know $ 22 out of $ 35.75 is not a 56% discount. The manager was very rude and said he did not know why that said $ 50.75, it was wrong. That was his defense!!! The place was empty except for another couple and a table with four elderly people. This was a Friday night at 7pm… all the other restaurants on the block were full, with people wiating outside to be seated and valet parking lines up the block! No surprises this place was empty, when they brought out somosas(advertised as 2 for $ 2.95), instead 3 miniature somosas were brought out, we immediately left amidst screaming with the manager. The worse experience I have EVER had. I complained to groupon and expect a full refund. As I told the manager, it won’t be long before they are out of business, 2 tables on a Friday night-not a good sign. The last thing I will mention is that the glasses were dirty and the water tasted funny. Not to mention I did see something crawling on the floor as I hurried out the door. Shame on you Maurya! False advertising, poor customer service, rudeness, dirty, and just a nasty spot all around.

I have been to this place a couple times. Always had great food and decent service. I don’t understand why this place is always empty when I go. Good place for a date as this place has some nice décor. Prices are average for Indian. I recommend the chicken korma and their garlic naan.

I have tried out alot of different Indian restaurant throughout the country and I find these guys to be on the decent side. A bit more pricey then most other place I have tried but the quality is a little better. They seem to be always having a party at this place because there are always limos with people coming in and out of this place. Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka ftw.

This place had great food! Was a little concerned b/c there was literally no one in the place — but they have been at that location for years, so i figure they do a big take out business. I saw the guy come and go multple times and some people even came to pick up orders. Food was delicious and will def return!

Not great, won’t bother with this place again. Walked into a completely empty restaurant, save two customers. We were not greeted by any employees of the restaurant and just helped ourselves to some seats. The only employee came running in 5 minutes later from OUTDOORS carrying a shopping bag. we were confused and thought this rather unusual but we were starving, so we stayed. The waiters accent was very hard to understand, but we heard him loud and clear when he pointed out my fiances thinning hair and said he had the same problem himself. Completely inappropriate. He, as usual, assumed we didn’t know jack about Indian food because we are white, and made an inaudible comment to us of that nature, further annoying us. I asked him if the tomato soup had lentils in it and if it was homemade, he enthusiastically ensured me that it did and was. and I ordered it. What do you know — Good old canned tomato soup. Complete let down. My fiancé ordered the samosas. When the waiter brought them, he announced he had given us 2 extras for free. They were about the size of very small wontons.(The menu advertises that you get 2 with your order) They were very small, and if only 2 had come, it would have looked pathetic. We ordered the lamb vinadloo, palak paneer and chicken tikka masala, also an order of poori. The chicken tikka honestly could have been from a mix, but everything else was average.(note i said average, it wasnt bad, but it wasnt good either) Typical indian restaurant«diet coke» was gross. I hate that fake stuff and know it from a mile away. Even after our $ 25.00 gift certificate from , the bill was 55.00.(making the original cost of this meal about 80 bucks, including tip) for 2 people, with no alcohol. Completely overpriced, ambiance is embarassing, unprofessional staff of 1 and you should definitely skip this place, even with the coupon… its a stinker.

I went today to try it out after someone gave me a gift card to the restaurant. The place is big, but empty. It almost looks like a ghost house. I think only two people work there(a server who doubles as a host) and probably a cook. The food, to be honest, is bad. The paneer tikka we ordered was very dry and hard, the tandoori chicken was not fully cooked and felt slightly old, the dal was average(the portion was very small), naan was good, the aloo we ordered was definitely microwaved warm. The food and the service was not good compared to other good Indian Restaurants in NY. Overall, it was not at all worth the $ 125 bill between three people. You are better off spending your money in another Indian restaurant.

Maurya is by far one of the worst Indian restaurants… excuse me one of the worst restaurants I have ever been in. I do not know about you, but I do not like my meals made in a microwave. I went to this disgusting place twice as I thought I was not being fair with my first impression. However, my first impression was right on the money. This place is always empty, with a staff of two and the server is microwaving your food. How did I know she was microwaving my food, because I heard the little bell ring for every dish. How could I not here the little bell ring the place is empty. To top off the night I found a little black bug in my rice, which I immediately brought to the servers attention. She tried to play it off knowing there was nothing she could say to rectify this disgusting, tragic experience. To top off the night she charged me the full bill and had the audacity to ask me for her tip. If you want microwave food with insects then this is the place for you, enjoy.
