I have shopped at Talbots in Reston many times. I usually get in, find what I like, pay and I am on my way out. I don’t fuss much with the staff. This time around I wanted a pair of pants that I found in the catalogue. I went to the store and I found the item however it was not on the shelf in the size I needed. I asked the store associate to help me find the correct size. In no time I had Leslie(spelling?) search the store back and front for my size. As it turned out, all the pants in my size were sold out. In the effort to make the shopper happy they checked the mannequin. As it turned out, my very size was on the mannequin! Leslie, with the help of another associate, undressed the display mannequin in order for me to get the very size I needed. No other store would do that. I thanked the ladies for their help and they simply responded: «We want you to be happy». Now– that’s customer services worthy 5 stars!

Stopped in here to buy a gift card for a birthday present. I was promptly waited on by the cashier and was out the door and on my way!

The previous reviewer makes a very good point. The sales floor — and thus, selection — is just too small to produce a satisfactory shopping experience. Frustratingly, my experience here has been that the Reston store has the customer service advantage while the Old Town Alexandria location has the edge — by a mile — on selection. I’ve only been in here to pick up a dress I’d had placed on hold, but I really appreciated how the saleswomen went above and beyond to locate the dress during a massive semi-annual sale. They held it for me and had it ready when I arrived. As seems to be a company-wide practice, the line to pay was much too long and moved at a glacial pace. However, it was a much more positive experience than the OT Alex location. Perhaps stopping by on a weekday would be more enjoyable? My own recommendation would be to shop Talbot’s online.

I love Talbots, and a review on the brand would definitely be five stars, but this particular store is rather small and has an overly pushy and rude staff member who made me feel so uncomfortable that I don’t even go to this store anymore. Actually, I started just ordering online and stopped going to the store because she was making me feel so uncomfortable and treated me like I was an idiot. She may have just been trying to be helpful, but I really don’t need her to ask me to come out of the dressing room so that she can comment on the outfits I was trying on and advise me on what I should buy and tell me when I look horrible. Her(unsolicited) advice wasn’t even useful and in the end the whole thing and all of the over-attention and treating me like I was dumb just made me feel really uncomfortable about shopping there Order online or go to another store. There are plenty of other associates who know when to back off a bit and who know how to give proper customer service at Talbot’s at other local stores and at their customer service call center.

Too small a store to offer much variety, but customers are welcome to browse the in-store catalogue to order anything they don’t see displayed. Their selections are always traditional: blazers, reasonable sportswear, some dresses and an abundance of slacks and skirts that will mix and match. They also have shoes, purses and accessory items. Most of the styles offered easily transition from work to a dinner date. Loyal customers like the fact that they offer a large range of sizes if you are willing to place an order and wait for delivery.
