This location is closed as of this date. Unfortunate; good Q. Looks like they opened an Allen location — don’t know if it’s the same crew from here or not

Not as pleased with the brisket as I’ve been in the past. Tougher and less flavorful. Service & sides still good. Think I’ll go back to the ribs. They are consistently good.

Just no… really. No smoke in the meats and serious A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E on our LAST and I do mean LAST visit. In my opinion this place just sucks. If you are craving BBQ and are close, I recommend you drive up to McKinney and go to Hutchins BBQ or to Plano and hit Lockhart Smokehouse. In my opinion Soulman’s BBQ is a thing of the past. It used to be great at all the locations, but now I wouldn’t eat at one if it was the only brisket served on earth. I don’t know what changed, but it seems that the whole vibe of all the locations and quality and quantity of food has changed over the last few years. In my opinion whomever runs Soulman’s now either doesn’t have a clue about running a BBQ restaurant and/or they don’t care if customers are happy or not. I wish the owners would either pull their head out or sell it to someone who can make Soulman’s what it used to be — a DFW institution.

I’ve seen a few co-workers come in and out of the office with Soulman’s Bar-B-Que so decided to visit this during lunch one day. I had their daily special which was a sandwich and two sides. I ordered the brisket sandwich sliced with a side of potato salad and the banana pudding since I have to cater to my sweet tooth. The brisket was dry, the potato salad was lacking a lot – something that could’ve easily been bought at a cost co. and their banana pudding was rather disappointing. I really dislike chain bar-b-q joints such as Dickey’s and if I had to compare the two it was quite similar. This was my first attempt at this place and some of their other selection could have more potential but since first impressions are a big deal to me I can’t see myself coming back for more. I’ll only eat there again if my company caters them or if they decide to come by my work and convince me, HEYYOUJERKEATMYBBQANDYOUAREWRONG, then maybe. But that’s a huge maybe.

Poor experience. Brisket was dry. Green beans lacked simple seasoning like salt. The mac and cheese tasted like they were from the previous week.

We were hungry for something good. We are not from Texas but this place was suggested. Boy are we glad we went. First of ALL the food was pretty darn good. The best meat and sauce. But we also very much enjoyed the sides. The best was the cabbage. Oh so good!!! The best of all was the buttermilk PIE. OMG! I could have just eaten that. The staff was extremely generous, sweet and kind. They made us a special grilled cheese sandwich that was such a hit with our picky eater we had them make us another one. You have no idea was it’s like to find a place that will do that for a little one. They earned BIG points. Lastly, it was just such a nice place, when we visit again. We’ll be sure to stop by again. Loved it. Earned a place in our hearts.

We were visiting Dallas and heard about the Cowboys Special on the radio broadcasting from the Richardson location while traveling back home. My wife and I actually stopped at the Rex, TX location. I had a chopped brisket samich, slaw, banana pudding. Wife had ribs, mac cheese, and beans. The chopped brisket was good, not great — 3.5 of 5 The ribs were AWESOME — 5 of 5 The banana pudding was surprisingly fantastic — 4.5 of 5 The mac and cheese was terrible — 1 of 5 The slaw and beans were average — 3 of 5 Returning to Dallas this weekend and I’ll try the Richardson location. On the Rex visit, we were there around 11:15am.

First time tot visit since we live in the surrounding neighborhood. Took two kids and husband for dinner and came away $ 50.88 poorer and disgusted. Only people in restaurant and now we know why. We each had a different meat — chicken, turkey, chopped and sliced beef and it all tasted the same. Gross! Out of okra and when we asked for some, cook took already fried okra and put back into hot oil to warm up. Ended up rock hard and only taste was grease. The meats were not fresh, dry, hard and tasteless. Was it even real meat??? Mac and cheese was watery, bread stale, beans flavorless. Free ice cream — didnt see it but would expect the worse. Sorry excuse for Texas BBQ — ick! Save your money and your taste buds!

Quite unimpressed. Buffet style and not a real pit barbequeue, and it’s easy to tell. No smokey flavoring. The turkey was so dry on the outside that the skin had become burnt. You could actually see the color change from the center to the outside showing the lack of moisture. The mac & cheese was just noodles dumped in the same cheese sauce they use for their potatos. The bbq«sauce» is just a huge tub where you get a ladel’s worth and pour it in a cup. One type only: mind and bland. The total price for a small helping of dried turkey, burnt toast, unsweet cole slaw and watered down mac & cheese? $ 13.83! The only reason it even got 2 stars was because of the free ice cream.

I am totally disgusted with the establishment. Twice not once but twice the server wanted to serve my bread by picking it up and giving it to me with her bare hands. Once of which was the cashier as well. I will NOT return!!! Totally no respect for customer and their food!

Friendly staff, okay food. Portion size is good for the amount of money you pay, but I wouldn’t say their BBQ stands out among others. I agree with other Unilocalers, meat was dry and lacking char and smoked flavor. What I will remember about this place was the friendly staff. Can’t seem to say that about a lot of places anymore.

Some of the poorest BBQ in town. The brisket is dry, flavorless, with no bark and no smoke flavor. They use a Southern Pride smoker, while popular in Restaurants, are known for their lack of flavor and smoke. Full Custom Gospel BBQ(Texas aficionado on BBQ) concurs. Sausage was juicy, but again lacked flavor. Toast was pre toasted and left out so it was cold and dry. For $ 15, go grab some neighborhood Mexican food instead.

Food is pretty forgettable. But that sauce… ewwwwwwwww… that sauce is so darned good. Can you buy just a bottle of that and take it with you to Spring Creek BBQ???

I am a highly satisfied customer of this restaurant. Been three times in last two weeks. Very lean brisket sliced and served by a friendly young beauty. Delicious just-sweet-enough sauce. Damn good pinto beans. Din’t have a baked potato but, they looked very good. So did the fried pies that I didn’t have. Place was spotless on Tuesday afternoon. I hate to see anyone go out of business but, I don’t miss Purdy’s that used to be in this spot. Much better than expected a/v rig. Big HD tv’s with news, sports and outdoor shows. This bbq did my soul some good.

When you walk into Soulman’s BBQ, you immediately want to like it. The place is large and airy, the space is clean, and the employees are as friendly as can be. Of course, those elements can only go so far because when you are craving BBQ, you obsess on meat and sauce. Sadly, I don’t think Soulman’s is extremely strong in either category. When you start in line here, you are immediately met with an array of meats that look mouthwatering. That feeling stops when they hit your taste buds, unfortunately because they are dry. It doesn’t matter if you order sliced or pulled, they lack any juice. Of course that could be saved by the right sauce. The watery, semi-sweet offering that is available provides little help. It reminds me a little of the liquid that remains after you eat some Bush’s canned beans. Sadly, the sides did not fare much batter. The mashed potatoes were downright runny, as if maybe they stole all of the moisture meant for the meat. The mac and cheese was average. I can really only recommend that fries out of the lot. Despite its flaws, Soulman’s still remains a dining option because of convenience and the spirit of its staff. If you have other BBQ choices near you, however, you might want to consider them first.

The Short Version: Greedy short sighted manager equals one less customer for life I had one of their specials, a large chopped beef briskit sandwich and two sides, for $ 8.99. The briskit was about the same as most of the chain BBQ joints around town but the vegetables were bad. I had their sliced potatoes with Cheese and Corn one the Cob. Neither had any real flavor. My co-workers had different vegatables(I remember on had mac and cheese) and didn’t like them either. Since the meat is pretty much the same at most of these chain places it’s the vegetables and that make the difference and ours were all bad. When I got to the checkout I was informed that I could only have one(half cob) of corn as a portion and I would be charged($ 1.69) for the other cob. I have never been to a BBQ joint that limits the quantity of of your vegetable choices that you put on your plate. Also, it was not labeld anywhere on the line that there was a limit of one piece of corn per serving. Since one of my co-workers already paid I didn’t want to leave him so I paid for the extra corn. If I had been by myself I would have given all the food back and gone to the Arbys next door. I live a couple miles away and have had their ribs before, which are OK, but after this experience I will not be back. Hope you’re happy losing my business over a cheap piece of corn.

Not bad but nothing outstanding. I will not hesitate to try it again and sample the other meats. I tried the ribs and was pleased. The flavor wasn’t my all time favorite but it is perfectly acceptable for a new establishment. The place was well staffed and clean. The only thing that bothered me were the photos of the owners and our Bozo governor.
