Sometimes they deliver and sometimes they don’t. Really annoying and the service is bad

This was my default Thai resturant when I lived in the bottom. It is affordable and the food is good. The family who runs this place are awesome people and overall I really liked this place.

I wish I could give this place a –1000 stars. I called in for a delivery that was well above minimum charges but they still denied me using a lame excuse«I don’t have a driver» then he followed it with«unless it’s a large order». I will never patronize this place, although they’re close to both my work and my place. And made sure to put their menu in the trash can, that way they’re not getting any business from my job!

My roommate recommended me to Alex’s and I was in the mood for Thai food in a big way so I was pretty excited. The person taking the order on the phone was helpful and quoted me 40 – 50 minutes for delivery, which was fine. A hour plus passes so I decide to give them a call and make sure they have the right number when they arrive for the delivery(I live in a key coded complex). The woman that answers pretty much tells me they just opened at five(which they open at 12 according to their website/google), and they don’t have my order started at all. She tells me it will take another 45 minutes with a pretty insincere apology. I’m sure that when I check my bank in the morning I will have been charged but I will update this post if that is not the case. They didn’t seem to care and I am very put off by that.

I had the Red Curry with Chicken, and Thai dumplings for an appetizer with my husband. It was very quiet, I’m assuming because some bad reviews from a previous time are driving people away, but I’m glad we didn’t read them and do the same. The food was amazing, and I’ve been to a lot of Thai restaurants. This was on par if not better than them all. There is a nice view of the Farmer’s market for people watching or a TV above the bar to watch the news… we enjoyed everything about our visit, and we’ll be visiting and ordering again for sure!

We live in Church Hill and this is the closest thai place to our house. We chose by proximity and then while we waited for our food we looked at the Unilocal reviews. I’m glad that we didn’t look at them before hand because we might have missed some good thai food. We ordered spring rolls, pad prik khing, and yellow curry. Everything came out promptly, ingredients were fresh, food was hot, flavors were good, and the price was right. All in all no complaints. The single con for my partner was his thai iced tea. He said it was way too sweet and the flavor was a little off. We will be back!

Not good. The flavors on the traditional dishes are way off, wrong spices, wrong flavor. The noodles are unusual. It’s not much better than storebought frozen thai food from a bag. Not ordering again.

I ordered take out from Alex’s Thai last night. I called in a phone order for drunken noodles with chicken and mango sticky rice. The food was ready in the stated time. The drunken noodles were a little lighter in color than I’m used to(I eat A LOT of drunken noodles), but the flavor was on point. The drunken noodles, in my opinion, were not spicy. I like my food very spicy, so I might be a little biased. It was a good sized portion for dinner, just enough to make a meal for me. The food was a tad on the oily side, but I didn’t have any problems with it. The mango sticky rice was good. Because I had ordered it to go and waited a while to eat it, I think the texture of the rice was jeopardized. The flavor of the rice and the freshness of the mango were on point. This is the only Thai restaurant in the Bottom, and since it’s only blocks from my apartment, I’ll continue to order from there. I’ve had much better thai food, but considering the lack of options, Alex’s Thai is a decent substitute.

Found myself craving Thai food but didn’t want to get out in the rain to drive to my favorite place. I knew Alex Thai wasn’t great, but I figured it had to at least be decent enough to satisfy my craving. I was so wrong. I ordered pineapple fried rice with tofu and panang curry. I’ve grown accustomed to asking for a fried egg on top of my fried rice, so when the person on the phone told me he wasn’t sure if he’d ever fried an egg before, I should have abandoned the call right there. It took nearly an hour for the food to show up despite my living only five blocks away, and when it did, I paid more than I do at my favorite go-to place(Chadar Thai). Get the food upstairs to determine that my panang curry has been replaced with a grease-soaked, flavorless box of unidentified noodles. Fail #1.(And when I called to report the mistake, they didn’t answer. Fail #2.) Hoping to salvage the meal, I dug into the pineapple fried rice. First, it had big wedges of tomato in it, which seems very odd for a semi-sweet pineapple rice dish. Tomato aside, it was gross. Not inedible, but gross. So mediocre that it left me wishing I hadn’t ordered at all and had instead gone to bed hungry. Verdict: DONOT waste your time, money, or appetite at this place. I’ve now had several bad experiences, and there are just too many other Thai restaurants in Richmond to keep patronizing this one. Try Chadar Thai instead… you’ll leave much happier!

Alex’s was completely empty when I went inside, but my take out pad see eew came out very quickly and was steaming hot when I got back to my office. It was almost too hot. My pad see eew wasn’t too sweet, which was a little disappointing, and there were carrots in it, which was a little weird. The portion was also pretty small, but it turned out to be just enough. Alex’s is a decent choice if you’re in the area!

I came here on a date and got the pad see-ew. Let me just say, it was delicious. The noodles were the best I’ve ever had, everything was super fresh, and my Thai iced tea had a really unique, minty flavor.

I have to preface by saying that I love Thai food. Not Thai-American Mall food. This is real Thai food! All of the ingredients are amazingly fresh and expertly prepared. I got the Dunken Noodles(at the chefs recommendation) and could not more satisfied! This place gets an A+

You see, this is why I do not like Unilocal.I am thoroughly convinced that they spam perfectly good restaurants with bad reviews just because they don’t pay the website for their services. Alex’s Thai has bar none the best drunken noodle I have tasted. And I love my Thai food. Granted, I haven’t been to Thailand(yet), but I’m pretty sure this is pretty damn close to the real deal. I’ve tried a few other dishes as well, and they were all excellent(even the duck — and I normally don’t like gamey foods). Long story short, give this restaurant a try. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it. However, all of my friends that I have brought there are repeat customers now. Don’t believe everything you read on this website!

Slowest service ever, the food is a C– at best. When I asked the waitress if it was acceptable to her half our party finished eating before the other half was served she said: «You’re welcome to not come back» We had 2 birthdays in our party – one was my sister’s. Terrible experience, if you’d like to be dissapointed then this iis the place for you.

I went to Alex’s Thai Cuisine for an early dinner today. I ordered the Pad See Ew dish with a Thai Iced Thai. My food came out slightly warm not hot. The portion size was a bit smaller. Alex’s Thai Cuisine usually has bigger portions. Maybe a bad night? The service was good. I give Alex’s Thai Cuisine a 2.5 rating.

Let it be known that I walked into this place with the lowest of expectations, but in this case, that probably helped them. Was coming home from a work appointment and knew that this was one of the Thai places in Richmond that I hadn’t tried and since it was on my way, I phoned in an order. They didn’t have garden rolls so I opted for spring rolls, panang curry with chicken, and pad thai with chicken(since my expectations were low I decided not to risk shrimp). I walked in and when I was greeted, the guy told me «well… If you want garden rolls, we can make them. It would be 5 or 10 minutes». In what world would garden rolls take ten minutes? And why are they magically available now that I’ve already committed to a different option? Whatever, I passed. Onto the good stuff(or maybe just«stuff»): The spring rolls tasted fine. I even liked the sauce, but two dinky little spring rolls for $ 4? Get out of here, I wouldn’t waste my money in the future. The panang curry was surprisingly good. The best? Definitely not, but it was the highlight of this meal. A decent creamy base built up with spices with chicken and crisp green beans and carrots. Now, if the prices that I’m looking at online are correct and it’s $ 8.50 for the panang curry with chicken, that is passable. Up it to $ 9 or $ 10 though and it would be overpriced. This is not a large portion, it fits into a small tupperware container with a little room to spare(think the container a small wonton soup would come in). If they are trying to charge more though, I’d need more chicken and less veggie filler(although the veggies were good). I wish I could tell you what they charged me, but I paid cash and ended up walking out without a receipt. Oops. Lastly, the pad thai… That is still sitting behind me. I always order pad thai and judge a place on their ability to make what is arguably Thai food’s most famous dish. And this pad thai… Just… Have you ever opened a take out container, looked at it, smelled it, and just thought to yourself, «Why did I order this? $#!%». The smell was off, it was overly orange/red, and the noodles were just slightly overcooked. I think the tamarind ration was off, and the spices left a grainy taste after the first bite. The pad thai will probably remain uneaten. Overall, I do feel like I over payed and wasted money for the most part. But, I’d give this place another shot seeing as it’s the closest Thai place to home. Let’s be clear though: this place isn’t knocking anyone’s socks off any time soon. Just remember to skip the pad thai(and the spring rolls if there are only 2 per order).

Just average. We had an appetizer of fried tofu with peanut sauce… I thought the sauce was a little too watery. For the entrée I had chicken pad see ew. They use«narrower» rice noodles, which I love. Most places tend to use the wider kind of noodles that are much too heavy for my taste. It wasn’t overly greasy, either. There was lots of chicken but I would have liked more egg and broccoli in the dish. All in all, not a bad place for Thai. It’s inoffensive, that’s all I can really say.

Okay, so I ate here again, and the bathrooms worked. Yay! On this occasion, the food was pretty good, your standard Richmond Thai fare. My drunken noodles with tofu were a little spicey, a little chewy, full of tofu and flavorful. We were a little disappointed that they advertised Thai wine on the menu, but didn’t actually have it. Service was decent, if a little slow. I would come back and try more dishes were I in the area.

Just ordered togo a few minutes ago. Picked it up and immediately dug into the spring rolls while I was walking home. They were super oily and bland. Then, the Pad Thai I ordered(it’s hard to screw up Pad Thai, right?) was basically tasteless with very little in it besides the spongy noodles. I actually had to break out the Siracha just to give it some flavor. I will try it again, because its within walking distance, but I’m not excited by my first experience.

My friend and I were walking around the Bottom earlier this afternoon in search of somewhere to have lunch. After stopping in some other places that weren’t up to par, we decided to come in here. From outside it looks really small and grimy, but it’s really not that bad once you get inside. At the time we were the only ones eating and that was helpful in getting our food quickly. Everything was prepared fresh and I especially enjoyed the spring rolls. They were hand rolled and served in a martini glass that had sweet and sour sauce in the bottom. Very cool presentation. Even though my tom ka soup wasn’t great, I still enjoyed everything and will probably be back. According to their signage, they have free delivery and a cool late night pick-up window in case you’re drunk and need some rice.
