I had read good reviews about Jennifer Bauer, only to be sadly disappointed. Her condescending attitude only annoyed me. She treated me like a child and had absolutely no compassion. My advice: if you are going to go to that practice, see a real dr, not a physicians assistant. Go somewhere else; anywhere else.

The only person who made this a good visit was the doctor(Dr. Haushalter), so I suppose that is good news since that is who I was there to see; however, the staff and the nurse were awful. The receptionist couldn’t figure out my insurance card, so she handed it back to me and said I needed to be self-pay. I kindly said no, that I was to pay a $ 30 co-pay. She said she couldn’t find an address on the card to send to billing. I pointed out the provider number on the front to call for an address. Instead of calling the provider number, she called her own billing department to(for absolutely no reason) confirm she needed an address. So I spoke to their internal billing department, and they basically said the same thing. It was like trying to solve a problem without acknowledging the actual problem. I felt like I was in a Vaudeville act or something. So I again pointed out the provider number, and she again said I needed to be self-pay. So I said forget it, called the provider number myself, and had an address for her in approximately 30 seconds. She entered it in the computer and, lo and behold, she found the information she needed! So instead of doing her job and calling the number,(saving us roughly 15 minutes!) she made me do her job for her. Thankfully I know how to advocate for myself and was able to problem solve for her. Another person would have ended up paying $ 90 as a self-pay and then spending months trying to get that money back from the insurance company. This was absolutely unacceptable on her part and the billing person’s part. Once I was asked back to the exam room, I pointed out to the nurse that I am a bit larger and would please like the largest size robe they had to feel more comfortable. She huffed, put the robe she was grabbing back in the drawer, and left the room. When she came back, she handed me the exact same size she was trying to hand me before with an explanation that I was going to be naked anyway. Then she promptly left before I could say anything. I mean, really? I understand the doctor was going to look at my entire body, but it isn’t good patient care to make me feel uncomfortable from the outset. So I was forced to put on the smaller robe and sit, freezing on the table, with half of my body exposed(because I couldn’t even come close to closing the robe; and while I am bigger, I’m not *that* big that a larger robe wouldn’t have done the job) while I waited for the doctor. This, again, is unacceptable patient care. It is also discrimination. Just because I am larger doesn’t mean I should be treated poorly by their nurse. Thankfully the doctor was nice, and she is the ONLY reason I might come back to this office. Otherwise, you guys have a lot of work to do between your staff and your nurses. These are extreme issues that need to be dealt with asap. Thank you for reading.

It’s been two years since I started going to Dermatology Associates of Virginia and I am excited to have found a home with them! I see Dr. Kristin Haushalter who is awesome. Not only is she down to earth, funny, and understanding, she knows her stuff! What I like about her is she doesn’t tell you that you need a bunch of fancy and expensive creams, she will let you know what works best for you… so refreshing! I must say getting a full body mole screening can leave one feeling a tad exposed, but she makes you feel comfortable and at ease. I can’t recommend her enough! Also, the other staff members are friendly, courteous, and very efficient. Today, I was in and out in 30 minutes and no, I didn’t feel rushed. This makes is easy for me to schedule appointments over my lunch break. If you need a dermatologist, I highly recommend Dermatology Associates of Virginia and Dr. Haushalter in particular. Cheers! And wear sunscreen:)

Don’t try to schedule 1 appointment for 2 related issues as Dermatology Associates of Virginia will not do this. Instead they try to schedule 2 separate appointments which I figure is to increase their revenue. Even after explaining to the scheduler that the issues are related and that I would schedule 2 appointments back to back they don’t budge(have to be separate appointments on separate days in order to bill insurance twice). I will never return because this bad practice tells me they put revenue ahead of patient health. I’ve had no problem having 1 appointment for multiple issues at other providers in the Richmond metro.

I have used Dermatology Associates of Virginia for twenty years, seeing numerous doctors at the practice along the way. I have always received good service, but I would especially recommend Dr. Georgia Seely and Jennifer Bauer, PA. Over the past year+, Jennifer has treated me for severe cystic acne, including rounds of doxycycline, retina-a, benzaclin, cortisone injections, and ultimately accutane. Throughout the whole experience, Jennifer has been extremely personable and reassuring. Recently, I somehow mistakenly thought my appointment was on a Wednesday when it was actually on the preceding Monday. Not only were they extremely nice about me missing my appointment, they were able to fit me in right then. I was highly impressed with this level of customer service.

I recently visited Joi Lenczowski at the Dermatology Associates at Patterson Ave. Ms. Lenczowski was more than just professional. She explained everything to me about my medical procedure and what I was to expect afterwards. She was engaging and caring. I would recommend her to anyone who is searching for a new dermatologist.
