Unfortunately, Torino’s is no more. They have officially closed. I have to believe it was the location and not the food that ultimately did them in. That, and the 45 pizza places that have opened downtown in the last six months.

My search for good pizza in the Roanoke Valley brought me to Torino’s. Well… let me back up a touch. I initially hit this place with the lunch bunch for a calzone but I wanted to return for pizza. VERY happy that we did. The good: We have now twice had the supreme pizza and it is amazing! I think the large pizza weighs in at about 4 lbs and is loaded with very flavorful toppings! They even put banana peppers on there! Sauce is great, Dough is amazing, and I think that they brush garlic something on the crust! As for the calzone? I ordered a small and it didn’t «deflate» when I cut into it and it hung off the plate on both sides… so stand warned and bring a friend! The could be better: Service at this place could use some work. At lunch in an empty place, 40 min. for calzones. Based on my initial experience, we have called in orders since. Despite an agreed upon time, we still wait around 10 minutes. I didn’t receive correct change during my recent visit, but let the coins slide. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE address the service and this will be a complete awesome package! The Verdict: When we don’t make pizza at home, this is now our place. I even think this has replaced our previous favorite… sorry Grace. Oh… this establishment often uses daily deal/groupon type deals, so keep your eyes open!
