The best choice coffee place here in sacramento in my opinion. It has all the perks that are important to me. Excellent coffee, one of a kind pastries, an atmosphere comfortable for every ‘category’ of person. A very down to earth, real place with kind people running it.

Have visited here a handful of times over the last few years and have never been disappointed. What draws me here are the fresh assortment of pastries that are just SOGOOD. I absolutely love their coffee, it is fresh and delicious and the customer service is wonderful. They are so friendly and accommodating here, you just can’t go wrong! Love the chill vibe, people from all walks of life come here to enjoy coffee! Will always recommend this coffee shop!

I come here at least twice a week. Great coffee by the lb as well as great lattes! They carry no sugar added almond milk which is rare! My son loves their pastries!

On its own, Coffee Works is a perfectly acceptable coffee shop with a fine selection of coffees and pastries. Unfortunately, in coffee-crazed Sacramento, perfectly acceptable gets beat out by some of the extraordinary competition. It has sort of an industrial feel with its drab paint scheme inside, but I rarely stay here. Their drinks are well-made, with just a classic cup of black or a latte serving as my favorites. Unlike other shops, they have a great food selection and I hear everyone saying good things about the pizza. I’ll have to come back just for that. My major beef is more logistical. Since there is rarely parking in the crowded Sudz Yur Dudz lot next door and they don’t allow you to park there anyway, you are left with nowhere to park except distant side streets. That’s fine if you live within walking distance in the neighborhood. Not so good for those passing through.

I’m sad that I’ve lived in Sacramento for 6 years without discovering this place sooner. It’s my new favorite quick breakfast spot in the universe. The coffee was very good(I just had a plain coffee, dark roast). The service was friendly, but most importantly, the pastries and quiche were insanely good. I got a little French pastry with berries inside, a flaky crust, and carmelized sugar on top – I wish I could remember the name – and it was literally the best and highest quality pastry I think I’ve ever had in my life. The scone, quiche, and sticky bun were really good too. Quiches at places like this tend to be dry and not flavorful, but their quiche was loaded with flavor. I’m surprised more people haven’t mentioned how good the food here is.

I’ve been here a couple of times and like it so far. On a Tuesday afternoon at around 2:00pm… + Cute place + Friendly employees(Cash-arista struck up a conversation with me while my credit card was processing) + Reasonable prices… You can save some money if you bring your own cup! + Acceptable parking(Small lot with 2 spots in the back. 2 additional spots for 15 min each. 2 hour parking in close neighborhood on 35th St. off Folsom) + Relatively quiet and not very busy when I was here. + Good number of seating with doable number of power outlets along the walls. There is also some nice seating if you’d like to take advantage of Sacramento’s nice weather. Inside is air conditioned. + Ordered a large, iced white chocolate mocha with soy milk and was pleased with the taste and flavor + Decent number of food/pastry options, but I haven’t eaten anything here yet so I can’t vouch for the quality. 4 stars for now until I get a better sense of how crowded it gets and whether there are even better parking options, as I would ideally like to find a parking area that I could be at indefinitely. Nevertheless, it’s worth checking out if you are looking for a place to grab some coffee with your buddies or would like to work in a small window of time!

It’s cool, I don’t need to try you for a decade and a half or anything! I drive by this place multiple times a week and FINALLY just stopped in. I wanted a specialty coffee, by that I mean a treat — a soy mocha. I try to keep drinking and buying these to a minimum, my wallet and waist thank me. But I knew I was on my way to Trader Joe’s and CW was on the perfect side of the street on my way there. It was serendipitous. Or it was just finally my time to learn about this place. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The parking is awful, but if you drive down the alley, they do have a handful of spots to park. I should say they have about four spots to park in. Luckily it was early on Mother’s Day morning and it didn’t seem too crowded, car wise at least. As I walked down the alley and into the shop, I was a little confused at the décor. I thought it was going to be more sterile like, but it was really niche and fun. Bright colors, a colorful chalkboard for the menu, a case for of decadent carbs, and plenty of seating. I want to say the seating options were eclectic, but my trip was so fast I cannot remember, to be honest. I almost ordered the breakfast burrito for sustenance, but was told it was veggie. Since that wasn’t going to work, I just ordered carbs. I ordered the Kouign Amann — I didn’t realize someone had these in Sac(to be fair, I hadn’t looked into them) — and an almond croissant. I also ordered a Soy Mocha and a SF Soy Vanilla Late. Verdict — Delicious! Everything! The almond croissant was a little dry, like it was a day old or something, but it still had good flavor. The KA had huge granulated sugar on the top and was delicious and much more fresh than its counterpart. Who doesn’t love butter, sugar, and carbs? The beverages washed it all down perfect. The cashier took cash and credit card, phew… they use an iPad and have a card machine too. The pricing was on par with any of the other Grid coffee shops, not cheap, but not overtly expensive either. The staff was working like crazy, because although it looked desolate from the outside, it was busy inside. Everyone that worked there was really nice and helpful. I know now better and will stop by here more often, unless parking dictates otherwise. Their carb case has so many more things that need me to try them. Lots of fresh pastries with fruit, lots of muffins, just lots of damn good looking stuff in general! Off the beaten path spot, but on a main street…

I went here to meet up with some friends and I thought this was just an average coffee shop. It didn’t have enough seating so that made it hard for us to get a table. But once we did, it was a nice place with a good atmosphere. I got a regular coffee and a black bottom(I think that’s the name of it) muffin. The coffee tasted a little burnt and the muffin was hard on the outside. I usually would give a place a second chance, but the staff wasn’t friendly so I don’t think I’ll be back.

Three stars for great atmosphere, food, and coffee. The two missing stars are for the poor customer service. I come here often and they are never friendly!!!

Good coffee, delicious almond croissant but the quiche was a little soggy and just ok. Busy atmosphere and had a little wait for a table.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. My boyfriend and I go here for the breakfast burritos and coffee because they are so amazingly delicious and have simple ingredients but big flavor! The burrito is microwaved but it doesn’t take away from the taste at all and I love that they are house made I believe. The coffee here is so much more flavorful than any other coffee place around. If you want to know what good coffee tastes like, come here. Oh and their scones are huge! Love them.

I like a lot of the independent coffee houses around Sacramento. Really, it’s embarrassing how many we have here that are awesome. The thing that makes Coffee Works stand out, apart from great coffee, and a laid back atmosphere, as well as the ever-changing local art displayed on their walls, is their bakery case. It is easily the best of the cafes I frequent, both in selection and overall quality. In addition to desserts like custard fruit tarts and lemon bars, as well as the usual scones and cinnamon rolls and other breakfast pastries, they have quiche and breakfast burritos and other real breakfast foods. I can actually go there hungry! The down side, and why I don’t go there more often, is that they close at 6pm. I tend to like hanging out in cafes at night, so this doesn’t work for me. However, word on the street is that they are looking into expanding their hours. Fingers crossed.

Pass by this place countless times, and I finally got the chance to try it one weekday morning.(Side note: the tiny parking lot for this place is tucked slightly behind the coffee shop and is easily missed). Really nicely decorated and seems like a good place to study or to just catch up with friends. The first thing that caught my eye was the pastries. They looked so good. Making a mental note to try it next time. Also Unilocal check-in gets a discount on scones, but I forgot to ask if they still honor it. Ended up getting a small soy latte. Price wise it was about the same as Starbucks or other major chain store(give or take a few cents), but I feel better supporting this place, haha. Plus, my soy latte tasted so good. I liked that the taste wasn’t weak and overwhelmed by soy milk. It was also not too sweet, which I appreciated. I usually don’t like the foam on top, but this was pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the coffee here. I am hesitant to give it a 5-star review, as I have other soy lattes that were on par with this one. But I’ll definitely be back to try their pastries and other drinks!

Very cute coffee shop with friendly staff… And they get so many usuals, it was nice to see that! It can be pretty busy during breakfast hours but there’s plenty of seating. They have sandwiches and pastries and their chai latte is super rich. Also, I really enjoyed the cappuccino.

My coffee works mocha has a nice foamy head and is not overly sweet just like I like it. Perfect temperature too. Not too hot but hot enough where you can’t swig it. BUT! Driving by I stopped because I thought that their cold brew was the Nitrogen infused cold brew coffee… nope.(I don’t know what made me jump to that concluaion) So I opted for the ol’ standby and was satsified. I’ll be back.

We came here to get some local coffee and explore small coffee shops. When we walked in, the entire place smelt like hot garbage. It was unappealing. We ordered one hot coffee and a cold brew. Both roasted at this location. It didn’t say anywhere what kind of coffee it was and the Barista just seemed bored and like he didn’t want to be there. The themes throughout the shop were confusing and conflicting like Hawaiian art, a book about hitler, and Indian art, etc. we were not very pleased with the appearance of the place, especially the smell, and the customer service. We won’t be coming back here for a fact.

I just started working down the street from this place and I was so happy to find them. I forgot my coffee at home and was not thrilled to possibly be stuck with Starbucks«coffee». I walked in and it is a very warm, welcoming place. I got their medium roast with a shot of espresso. It was yummy. I’m definitely intrigued to try all they have to offer. The staff is more than friendly. I definitely recommend giving these guys a try. Update 2−8−15: I got to stop by before work today and got scones to share an luckily got to try all the flavors. I picked the mixed berry, apple pecan, and strawberry white chocolate. They are the best scones I’ve ever had. They are super soft and super tasty!

Love grabbing coffee and a pastry and walking the neighborhood. It’s also a great place to grab a table and do school work. It’s not overly busy so you can typically get a table. They have a wide selection of pastries as well as food items — burritos, salads, soup, pizza, etc.

First reaction when I walked in was that this place has bad interior design. It feels pretty dark in here and I think that’s because the entire place is painted different shades of brown, rust, orange, or similar colors. The furniture also looks outdated and worn out and consists of tables with this copper looking finish and ugly chairs with reddish/purple seats. This is totally the kind of place that I would of loved as a teenager in the 90’s because of the run-down homey feel. Nowadays though, I prefer upcycled aesthetics rather than worn out furniture. The people watching here seemed half way decent, but it’s not the kind of environment that I would go out of my way to seek out again. I saw a few people on their computers, so I’m guessing students from Sac State may come here to study. For my beverage, I ordered a white tea, which tasted fine and neither impressed nor disappointed me. I also noticed that they had a pretty decent vegetarian selection, including breakfast burritos, which I might try if I end up here again. Overall, I won’t be going out of my way to come back here, but if I end up here again at some point on someone else’s suggestion, I won’t complain.
