We tried this place because it’s beside the ice cream place that we wanted to go to. I ordered the Banh Mi with Teriyaki(?) Chicken with extra daikon. The extra daikon was $ 0.40 I think. The bread was okay, had better. However, the meat was so burnt I can’t even describe if it’s salty or something else. But then, I guess it’s also salty too because of salt or the marinade of the chicken. The perfect description for it is… the«American Banh-Mi» — I’m not too big on sandwiches. The Banh Mi, in general, is the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Certainly not at this place though. I would go for real American sandwiches here. I like the fans inside and the temperature was perfect. The place looks clean and they have lemon-infused water which added a nice touch.

I have been here a few times. Prices are fair. Their burgers are good. Their pastrami is excellent. I would advise tailoring the sandwich to your liking. I ordered the Pastrami Mami without the pickles, onions and thousand island; added mayo.

Place is really good! Customer service is really awesome! The only downfall which is beyond thier control is parking sucks in that shopping center. There banh mi is very good and the philly cheese steak was awesome!

I wish to give them a 3.5 stars So here’s the deal, I got the charbroiled chicken sandwich combo. So that’s an extra $ 2 for a drink and fries. I asked for no cheese or sauce on mine and they gave me what I asked for! They didn’t mess up! *happy tears* Anyways the sand which was good, quite oily and messy cause they used normal sliced bread. So literally my lettuce was flying everywhere and my tomatoes too.(I took out the onions and pickles by hand) I wish they used a better bread so the stuff wouldn’t fall out as much. The place is right next to What’s the Scoop, and was very clean and organized. They spelled banh mi right so points to that too

this was not our first time here and it still won’t be her last but it definitely wasn’t our favorite. I ordered the special which was a cheeseburger with chips and a drink this very fairly priced but my burger was super pink in the middle I’m usually OK with a little bit but it was pretty much raw. The lady was super nice when my boyfriend brought it back in to exchange it for something different but they were out of eggs for the egg salad sandwich that I wanted so I was kind of grouchy about that too. but I ended up getting The day after like I usually do and it was wonderful of course. my boyfriend ordered breakfast he ordered a sausage burrito and he said it was OK but he would never order it again I had tons of red potatoes in it which usually Lowe’s but they were undercooked and hard. but he liked whatever kind of sauce they put in it he said it was really good. also I use the restroom there this time and it was superclean

This place was a hidden delight for me and my bf. Everything was fresh!!! It was literally the best burger I’ve had within Sacramento, definitely going back to try the other items on menu! Kinda pricey but worth it

Food is always great in my opinion. Their fry is alright but their burgers/sandwhiches are definitely worth a try. I would recommend Hot Blonde for sure :) The wait could take a while depending on how busy it gets.

Got the chicken salad but the wait took a very long time. The parking at this plaza is horrible. Would come back if it wasn’t for the parking during lunch time. The place is always busy and it seems like they could try a little bit more help. Have limited seating inside with a few tables outside. Best thing to do is call your order ahead of time

Without a doubt it is good. But they have to work on their ventilation. I walked out of there smelling of grease and smoke like I was cooking and I didn’t even dine in, took it to go. Had their breakfast burrito with bacon. It was good but their salsa threw me off with its sweet factor.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a new place to try. I found this place on Unilocal and we were excited. We order a Hot blonde with a drink and fries(we shared a sandwich) the total was 10.04. When the food arrived it seemed like those 10 dollars would pay off but once we bite it we were completely disappointed. The sandwich looked like it was worth every penny but tasted like we were over charged. The sandwich had chicken, Swiss cheese, avocados, spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes, garlic spread, brown mustard and pepper plant, you’d think you’d have a variety of flavors hitting your taste buds but the main flavor was the cucumbers. The fries and soda were good. I didn’t even finish my half of the sandwich so my garbage disposal of a boyfriend ate the chicken and left the rest. We shoulda gone to McDonalds. — RE

Hard workers that moved fast to get all the orders out. It looked like a family run business where the dad may have been the cashier. I thought it was quite funny that he had on a «Yummy Choice» apron which is a the name of another restaurant. Maybe is another family business they own. Food was tasty and it’s located on a busy corner with free parking in a shopping center’s lot with other restaurants. Restaurant was full(and so was I)! I’d go back for sure!

My overall review of this place is definitely 4 stars(love the amount of food you get for the price) — I’ve had a few of the wraps and salads. I haven’t had a burger just yet, but it’s next to try on my list! However, the other day I was craving some chicken tenders. I stopped into Dad’s on Folsom and found they have a chicken strip meal(strips/tenders: tomato/tah-mahto) which comes with fries! Score… so I thought. The strips were tough and not flavorful at all. I guess they fry them in the same oil as their fish strips because as soon as I got in the car my son asked if I ordered catfish :/The fries were a bit greasy(but that’s my favorite part about them), they had just the right amount of soft and crunch that I like too. But I really really was looking forward to the chicken strips and was thoroughly disappointed. As long as I stick to the other menu items I’ll be a-OK! Service: 3.5 Food: 4.5 Prices: 5

I have always heard awesome things about Dad’s and finally realized that there is a location on Folsom Blvd close to my office. I went in and tried the special for that day — it was a hot sandwich with lots of interesting ingredients. I think it was a steak, blue cheese, with walnut and rye bread type of sando. Can’t remember the exact specifics but it was quite tasty. I didn’t even finish half of it. I think next time though I’ll eat there. I took that one to go and of course since it’s a hot sandwich it’s never as good as it is when it FIRST comes out of the grill/oven. I need to go back and try more!

Dad’s on Folsom, at least in my two visits, pales in comparison to the other two Dad’s locations, or many other sandwich shops in Sacramento for that matter. I see why people love it: Huge sandwiches piled high with ingredients — especially meat. But a ton of ingredients does not a good sandwich make. On my last visit I ordered their special: a take on their chicken breast sandwich but with buffalo chicken instead. There’s no way to sugar coat it… the«buffalo» chicken was gross. The sauce tasted nothing like any buffalo sauce I’ve ever had and the pieces were chewy and soggy. The other ingredients made the whole thing a soggy mess. It was one of the rare times this sandwich lover couldn’t finish more than a few bites. I’d say this was a one-off mistake but other sandwiches I’ve had here have missed the mark as well. It’s essentially the same menu as other Dad’s locations, so maybe it comes down to how they are being created.

YUMMMMM! good quality sandwiches I must say! One of my favorite spots here by sacramento state! My favorite is the pastrami mami hot sanwich, if u like thousand island, pickles, pastrami. yum. if you’re one of those pickle haters you can always ask no pickles. I’ve also tried their Philly Cheesesteak and the tri tip sanwich(not sure what the name is, but it’s second on the hot sandwich menu) both had tasty meat, but not enough. And by that I mean there was A LOT of veggies, it was like onion and bell pepper overload. So I think I liked the Pastrami Mami because I asked like onions. If you like ur sandwiches meaty, ask for light veggies or no veggies at all! Sandwiches range from $ 5-$ 7.50 and most come with fries or chips and a drink! xoxo chelsie

Student discount! Show ID for 15% off! Great place next to the lofts on 65th and folsom. It’s a bit of a walk from campus, but you can take the shortcut that takes you under the train tracks! Everything on the menu is reasonably priced, and the portions are huge! I barely finished my sandwich and couldn’t eat any more fries. We got a vegetarian pesto sandwich and one with a ton of meat to make our meal balanced ;) Everything was delicious, Can’t wait to come back to try the other items on the menu. By the way, This area gets really busy around noon due to SMUD+ St Francis High school going out to lunch!

I’ve always been a fan of «Dad’s Sandwiches» in downtown; both the J St. and S St. locations. In fact, they rank up there as one of my top picks for a quality sandwich in the Sacramento area. However, the«Dad’s on Folsom» location is only a mile away from my house. Which gives me all the more reason to come here now; well let’s just see about that! «Dad’s On Folsom» is located in the busy F65(Folsom Blvd. &65th St.) shopping center. The location can be a bit tricky to find but it is tucked right next to a yoga studio and an ice cream parlor. When first entering the restaurant, it lacks any character that the downtown establishments offer. In fact, its as plain as you can get with absolutely nothing that screams attention. Seating is limited which is disappointing considering they could’ve done a lot more with the tables both inside and out. As my fiancée and I entered the restaurant, it was quite dead with no customers. Reason being is because we came in the evening during the week. However, there were several employees working behind the counter. One noticeable thing is that this place offers slightly more options than the downtown location. But it just doesn’t have the same hip feel and charm as the downtown location. As I glanced through the rather extensive menu, I notice that they offer one of my favorite Vietnamese sandwiches, the«Bánh Mi»! And at only $ 4.75, this was the by far the most affordable sandwich they offer. My fiancée goes with one of «Dad’s» benchmark sandwiches, the«Hot Blonde»(for $ 6.75). For those of you who aren’t familiar with the«Hot Blonde», it offers grilled chicken complete with avocados, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, red onions, spinach, cucumbers, garlic spread, brown mustard, and pepper plant sauce on sourdough bread. As slow as they were, the overall wait time took longer than expected; in fact it was a good 15 minutes until we both received our sandwiches. Even the downtown locations with a line out the door during a lunchtime rush is faster than this! When we got our sandwiches, everything was presented very nicely. One bite of my «Bánh Mi» sandwich and I absolutely loved it. There was a very generous amount of pork meat while the veggies were abundant. And the bread had that nice crunch without being too tough on the outside. However, my fiancées «Hot Blonde» was a hot mess. The sandwich literally fell apart even before she took the first bite. It almost made holding the sandwich an impossible task as she had to use a fork for each and every bite. And I don’t know what it was, the sandwich just didn’t taste the same as it does in the other locations. Overall, I am going to give this place 4-stars for at least trying their best to make quality sandwiches. My sandwich was excellent but hers leaves a lot to be desired. I think when a small hole-in-the-wall business expands outward to a totally new location, you will get an entirely new flavor of food;(for example, «Squeeze Inn»). But if I don’t want to branch out too far from home and want to get filled up, I’ll definitely come back here again.

It was not good. I’ve eaten at Dad’s on S Street many times for lunch, so I thought we would be getting the same quality sandwich from this location. It did not even seem like it was the same restaurant! Horrible might be too strong a word to describe the food, so just know that I won’t ever eat there again. I ordered the«hot blonde,» a chicken and avocado panini. The dark meat chicken(no chicken breast?) was chopped up like it was being served for a chicken teriyaki plate. No seasoning. No flavor. The only thing I asked not to be put in the sandwich was red onion, but the whole thing was bland and really messy to eat. My boyfriend ordered a simple pastrami with pickles and mustard only. They fried the pastrami like a philly cheesesteak(usually, pastrami is steamed). He said it tasted like fried bologna. They do get an extra star for the friendly service from the young lady at the counter(plus the fact that we forgot something at the table and she was kind enough to retrieve it and hold it til we got back).

2.5 Stars rounded up because I’m sure their other sandwiches are better but damn, I was really hoping to like this place. I came in at 12:30 on a Tuesday and was nicely surprised there wasn’t a huge line. Yes! There are about 8 – 10 tables inside to sit at that were all taken, but I didn’t mind because I was taking my sandwich to go. I ordered at the counter and then waited a few minutes for my sandwich while trying to stay out of the way of the people just coming in as well as not stepping on the people already sitting down. It’s a small place! I ordered the Besto Pesto Sandwich($ 5.75) which came with pesto, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, walnuts, and a garlic spread on sourdough. I substituted avocado for tomato which cost me an extra $ 1.00. I must mention that even though the parking lot looks big, there are a lot of other eateries in the same center so parking is sometimes a challenge. Parking is also cut in half by some spots being reserved for specific businesses and the adjoining apartment complex. Did I mention 95% of the spots are compact? Good luck! I finally made it back to the office to enjoy my long awaited sandwich and was instantly let down. You can see for yourself by the pictures, but my sandwich had two slices of cheese, about 6 walnuts, three thin slices of $ 1.00 avocado and little to no garlic spread. 90% of the sandwich was lettuce. The sourdough it came on was also sliced super thin and barely even there in places. The sandwich was so dry and bland that I couldn’t even finish the last few bites and that’s saying a LOT for me because I’m super cheap. Needless to say I was hungry again a few hours later because all I really had to eat was lettuce and bread. What happened to my sandwich when all the other sandwiches in the pictures are packed full of ingredients?! Was my sandwich selection just a bad choice? If so, then why do they have it on the menu? Will I be back? Probably not. $ 6.75 lesson learned.

I like dad’s. I have tried many different sandwiches, I find their prices to be fair, the service to be friendly, and more importantly, the food to always be fresh. I can’t say that I have liked every single sandwich I’ve had, and as far as the sandwiches go, more than often, they are just too complicated, too busy. I guess I still haven’t Americanized enough. It seems so many places lack the joy of simplicity and purity of really good ingredients. If you have a really good piece of ham(not the ham we find in most Sacramento sandwich shops, but a ham that was roasted, and sliced thin in the store), you won’t have to do much for it to be spectacular. Also, they seem to lack consistency. I have had the same sandwich– the carnivore, and the blue collar– here, the one on tenth, and at the one on S. The one on S makes them better than the other two in my opinion. My search for an absolutely favorite sandwich shop in Sacramento area continues.
