Being from Hawaii I am very particular about my fish. Call me a snob, but I am used to fish being caught and ate all on the same day. This place is really good and I love their happy hour. Great drinks, super friendly, great location and the fish is AWESOME. The happy hour is one of the best in town. The only reason they don’t get 5 stars is they don’t serve poke. They should have poke available which would easily turn them into 5 raging stars :)

I love love love Mikunis! I’ve been to every location and they consistently offer great service and yummy sushi. This location downtown is pretty big. I’ve been here a few times with a group of people and they’ve always been able to accommodate. In 2016 I decided to become vegetarian, and I was a little bummed because I think sushi will be the thing I miss the most. Good thing Mikunis has a decent vegetarian menu! I highly recommend the Rabbit Roll for anyone looking to exclude meat.

One of my favorite restaurants in Sacramento. Top notch ingredients and excellent presentation. My favorites include the black and white, which has a vinegary kick to it, the sea steak, and of course, the sashimi. Not a huge fan of rolls, however, this is the place I would indulge in some. Don’t forget the spicy edamame – we’ve found it to be especially great without cilantro!

I just love this location downtown. The atmosphere is fun, exciting and entertaining. This restaurant is open and spacious with unique fish art throughout the place. With an upstairs that can be used to a big party, it does not get much better. Let’s talk sushi: The sushi is fresh and made to order. I love how flexible the staff is when producing such delicious plates. I can’t wait to come back to try the T.J. Roll. The staff at Mikuni’s are great people. With an upbeat attitude and pleasant service, I have to tip them a little extra for being absolutely amazing. Have you heard of the Mikuni Koki Club? I recently became a member and highly recommend that you do too. It’s a frequent diner program which gives points for redeemable rewards. Check it out!

Sushi was good and unique. Service is pretty slow… almost 3 hours for a group of 20… which included waiting for food, getting it and getting the bill. Charged $ 14 for zig zag roll, despite asking when it came out if it was the $ 7.50 handroll version that we ordered… they took off the extra rolls, because apparently the zig zag comes as a handroll and regular sushi roll? Her reasoning was that there were two of us, so she decided to charge us for 2. So I guess you can’t order a single handroll for yourself if you’re with someone else. O_o Had to discuss this with the waitress twice. Would have sent the rolls back if we knew we were being charged double. No splitting the bill either, so it took forever trying to figure out who was paying what.

Great bang for your buck! I came here one evening for dinner with my boyfriend and noticed there there was a $ 45 for two menu, so we went for that! It includes on appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert. We got the BBQ White Tuna. which was tasty and smoky(as the name implies), the sea steak was my favorite, and had amazing presentation! so flavorful and great contrast in the crunch, soft, sweet, salty aspects going on in the dish. There was nothing to complain about in either of the rolls(Marilyn Monroll & Annie Roll). I’ll definitely be back in the future! Great service, ambiance(except for the two drunk and loud out-of-towers sitting at the bar next to us!), and food!

We have been regulars of the Mikuni empire for over a decade and always take our out of town guests there because of how fresh and delicious their sushi is. However, I am disappointed to say their quality, both the craft and the freshness, have been deteriorating and finally rock bottom for me. Our friends drive all the way out from the Bay Area just to get their Mikuni fix, and because the food has rivaled SF sushi bars in the past. We usually get the platter D, which provides a good assortment of rolls and specialty dishes. The last couple of times the food has been meh, but we couldn’t pin point anything specific that was wrong, though we did notice the flavor changing and smaller portions. Last night, the sea steak came in really thick slices instead of the thin, delicate slices we were used to. The sauce was different and strange. Also, the fish looked brown and completely unappetizing. We tried to eat it, but it did not taste good. We left a lot of sushi unfinished, which never happens with our group! Everything else was unspectacular. The portion of the garlicky avocado salmon was really small. All around, the entire meal was disappointing. I’m really saddened by this turn for Mikuni, and like I said, I noticed the decline a while ago. Some of my local sushi loving friends have stopped going there altogether and actually say their food is nasty. This was always our go to sushi spot and place to introduce first timers to sushi. I can’t begin to tell you how much we have on our Koki card over the years. Now, I probably won’t be going back unless they find a way to win me back. I hope they revisit their staff training, quality control and business practices. Instead of placing so much emphasis on expansion, marketing and business development, they need to get back to their roots and focus on the food that made them what they used to be.

I’ve learned to dig tuna, and Mikuni seems to do it up right. The Nine One One roll is far from flashy and it earns yummy points even with its simplicity. It was a little bit louder in here at lunch, but nothing requiring more than a slightly raised voice. And don’t come here looking for any sort of intimacy. Maybe I looked funny waltzing in in jeans and a college sweatshirt. Oh well. During the day, I didn’t feel too out of place not being dressed to the nines.

In town for work and being from the Midwest sushi is a must when on the coast. This was a recommendation from a local. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the price was right. We were a table of 4 and had a variety of dishes. We were excited to see sea urchin as that is not always an option where we are from. The service was great, the waiter was able to explain some of the wording on the menu, and was also able to make some suggestions. They were holding a great happy hour special while we were there. If it was Monday night football you could get the happy hour price all night. They had local beers available and were willing to serve a full glass of water! In a drought the Midwesterners don’t understand water is more coveted than coke. We were thankful for our waiter who accommodated our needs. If you are there at prime time, they do offer valet services and the car was washed when we got it back. Great service! Will definitely recommend to my other traveling coworkers

My guy loves this place, but I just don’t feel the same. We went this past Saturday for dinner. We got a seat a the sushi bar. The thing I don’t get is do you order from the sushi chef or the waiter. Each place I go to is different. Some waiters want you to order everything minis the sushi from them and others… I We ordered our roll from the sushi chef and then we ordered the drinks from the waiter. After trying to flag the waiter down for a long time I gave up and asked our sushi chef how I should order some miso soup. He immediately flagged someone down and it appeared in less then a minute. Now, that is service. The place was nicely decorated, I had a extra seat next to me to hold my purse, which was a plus as the ground is so far down and its hard to balance it on my lap while I eat, the temp was good, parking wasn’t an issue as we parked 2 blocks a way and walked as we parked in front of our first stop and walked(If not there is not parking for this place), price was ok, I think it’s a bit pricy, but he thinks the rolls are more quality, but I like how my place makes the roll so it’s a tough call.

I ordered the $ 45 meal for two to share with my boyfriend & fellow Unilocaler, Allan B., and it was well worth the price! We had the bbq tuna, albacore pepperfin, zig zag rolls, ninety nine rolls, and xango cheesecake, but ordered a side of spicy edamame which was not part of the meal deal. I was in town for a conference and got 10% off our bill. I also purchased a breast cancer awareness shirt which was only $ 15 because it was an old design. The flavors of the sushi were very distinct, my favorite was… everything I ordered! The ambience was trendy and the tables were full, a good sign for a happening place because when we walked through midtown Sacramento on a Saturday night, it wasn’t very lively until we saw the lights to Mikuni. So if you want sushi in Sac town, go to Mikuni and have a tuna-riffic time!

Came here for a quick bite the other day and decided to veer off from my usual flaming shrooms and puff daddy roll. I tried the DMC roll which was 15 or so bucks. I have no clue why I payed that much for a mediocre tasting roll. I guess I got to stick with he usual for my protection.

Decent place. It is huge so you can host a group party here. Super expensive for what you get if you are doing high end cuts. More expensive than the city(SF). We ordered Uni and it was like 13 $ and was beyond awful. Their large Japanese beers were also 15 $. WTF? If you like mediocre sushi rolls stuffed with anything, but actual raw fish, this place will do it for you! I honestly will avoid this place like the plague in the future. Honestly, I am still wrapping my head around what the Sac peeps will put up with in the food category.

Excellent sushi! One thing that I want to applaud this whole chain is that it’s like McDonalds– every spot you go, you will get the same quality of sushi. Their uni is always fresh, as well as their other fish. I also ordered spicy scallop handrolls and the scallops were so fresh and perfectly seasoned so it’s not too spicy. It was just excellent! I also ordered the rolls here but it was just meh for me– pimp my roll was overly fried and a bit overloaded with sauce– wouldn’t order again. I think their speciality is sashimi and sushi.

Have been here on several occasions for dinner, sometimes before catching a Music Circus or Broadway Sac show, meeting up with friends or whatnot. I frequent the Mikuni in Davis for lunch for obvious geographical reasons, and have been to the Mikuni in Elk Grove a few times. Never the Taro by Mikuni at Arden though… I like the vibe of this location, have been seated downstairs and upstairs. I’m a fan of their sushi roll combos, the small plates and apps, even big party platters! Bento boxes are good, drinks and desserts ok. Their rice bowls are good too, like the chirashi for those sashimi lovers out there. Most recent trip opted for the fixed price four course menu for 2 people for $ 40 or $ 45 I believe it was? Started with the BBQ Tuna appetizer(MUSTGET), chose 2 rolls(Annie and Rainbow), Albacore pepperfin plate, and the triple mousse dessert. In addition, got the ahi poke salad, and the sake sampler to share. Yum! Way too many choices though, everything looks/sounds so good on the menu! Great deal. One time, two of us tried ordering 6 rolls to share, including the Train Wreck, which was waay too much sushi, lemme warn you. Six is too much. Start with 4 then order more if still hungry rather than be overwhelmed with it all. They also do spin-the-wheel for birthdays(+/-2 days of actual birthdate) for apparel, kitchenware, $ 100 giftcards, bags of rice, etc.

Don’t give out 5 stars all that often. Came over the hill from Reno for my bday, ended up grabbing some drinks and sushi here at Mikuni. It’s been a go to spot for years and years. My fiancé loved it. Service at the bar was great. Drinks are cold and delicious(oyster bat sav blanc and my go to which is a Kirin) BBQ albacore is one of a kind. Delicious! Peter II, fair oaks, kaiser, bobs and incredible are some of my favorites. If you in the area of any Mikuni drop and try it out. Cheers!

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to a Mikuni’s restaurant. On 3÷13÷15, Diana T. and I dined here after work to celebrate her birthday. We sat at a table next to the sushi bar. The sushi masters were courteous and friendly. The wait staff were also fantastic, so 5 stars for service all around. To start off the evening before the birthday girl arrived, I ordered the Tokyo Tea. It was divine! I enjoyed every sip of my drink. If I weren’t driving home, I probably would have had two more glasses of it. I also had my usual Agedashi Tofu, and it was not a disappointment either. I finished all this before the birthday girl arrived. Couldn’t wait! After the birthday girl arrived, I ordered more food for myself. I had the BBQ Albacore Tuna Appetizer and the Zig Zag Shrimp Hand Roll. Diana ordered the Tuna Sliders 2, Albacore Pepperfin, BBQ Albacore Tuna Appetizer and 12 O’clock High. The 12 O’clock High is not on the menu. You have to be in the know to get this dish, and my squirrel friend knew to order it from the sushi itamae(chef). Everything we had to eat was delicious! Mikuni’s is one of my friend’s favorite Japanese restaurants, and this is one we both can agree with a 5-star rating. The only negative experience would be parking for the birthday girl because she had to drive around until she found street parking which was several blocks away, but that did not ruin our experience at Mikuni’s.
