We went on Mother’s Day w/a party of ten. Service seemed slow and we had to ask for our bill, and for boxes. The teriyaki chicken was just okay. I liked the sesame chicken. Father in law said the cucumber salad was very good with a vinegar taste he thought was perfect. Gyoza is not my thing, my wife liked the taste. …We had some pork belly bun appetizers that were interesting but honestly didn’t taste like a Japanese dish. …The space is nice and roomy. There is a traditional bar area with TV’s playing, and another dining room with a sushi-bar. Some diners were even eating outside on a small patio in front of the property. I WOULD go back to give them a second chance if the food was better. I prefer more traditional Japanese. I asked if they had Gyudon and the waitress didn’t even know what that was. There is no shortage of family run Japanese spots in the 9−1−6. We will try another next time.

I’ve heard the f bomb three times on my visit, and it was not a quiet f bomb either. Service is extremely slow for us being the only ones in there. They are also very unattentive. Our waiter was nice though and the food was not terrible.

Great food and nice people, but bring a book and be prepared to wait– to order, for your food, for your bill and your change. Night time service is faster.

I’m not sure what the other reviewers are complaining about in regards to poor service. Maybe they were having an off night, or we were having a good one. Granted, we were dining early for a Saturday, around 5:30pm. We were seated swiftly and our server was both attentive and professional. We happened to arrive during happy hour, which was a pleasant surprise, because the prices and selections for both food and drink were attractive. We placed an order for several items, all from the happy hour menu. Drinks came out quickly and food came out in a normal amount of time. Dishes were tasty and presented a good value in general, especially considering the cuisine. I particularly liked how the gyoza were prepared, and my wife liked the spicy tuna roll which is simple but easy to botch. Pretty standard fare, but good nonetheless. A good experience overall. We will be back.

I did not like the service, they took for 20 minutes before they took our order and served other people after we have gotten there. I really loved the food there but waitress was the worse.

I have a shellfish allergy but I love sushi. When I told this to my server he went above and beyond to explain to the chef how important it was that there was no shellfish contact. He probably didn’t know I could hear him but that kind of service is what will make me come back to this restaurant. The food was delicious, there’s no denying that. But the reason why I gave 5 stars is the service. My server gave me just the right amount of attention during my meal. Thank You Brandon you are awesome

I live so close to this place and have been wanting to check it out for some time now. Every single staff member was super friendly from the hostess to the servers to the sushi chefs! I was very impressed by their service. We were sat immediately and all of the food came out with perfect timing. We ordered the miso soup, the chef’s choice and three rolls. I love how the miso soup had seaweed in it! The chef’s were nice enough to cut our sushi in half so my husband and I could eat each one! Great sushi restaurant with awesome service!

The food is really unique and delicious. Of all the Sushi bars we have been to, this is absolutely the best! The food is very fresh. The best part is the creativity of everything created. So many Sushi bars have become commercialized and are cheap with their portions. If you look at my posted pictures you can see the special attention to detail. My wife and I really love this place!

Was really excited about this place, since it’s down the street from me and the ambience was really nice inside. We sat down, our server was very nice; but he looked like he was also working the bar. He told us that they were understaffed, because the Sunday night(that’s usually not busy), was super busy that night for some reason. Our food took 30+ minutes to arrive, which was way too long; my stomach hurt by the time our food came because I was so hungry. When it finally came, my boyfriend was very happy with his roll, and I was happy with my chicken teriyaki bento box; but we were both very dissapointed/grossed out by their sashimi. I ordered tuna and salmon sashimi in my bento box and my boyfriend ordered a plate of salmon sashimi. The sashimi was all room temperature, not the least bit cold which made it taste fishy/not fresh. I really should have sent it back; but I hate complaining at restaurants. I can’t decide if I want to go back or not; it may have just been a fluke. Sashimi is my favorite thing at sushi restaurants, and if it isn’t fresh; the restaurant isn’t worth going to. Not trying to get food poisoning any time soon…

The food was great, the service was terrible. Not rude, but inattentive and slow. No warmth. We ate dinner on a Saturday night at about 7PM. The hostess greeted us and seated us right away, but it was a very long time before we saw a waiter. We had our drinks and dinner selected, our menus stacked up and were leaning back waiting in our seats with our arms crossed before our waiter finally came over. Rather than greeting us he had his pad and pen out and was very short in taking our order. When we asked him a question about the specials and items on the menu, he seemed uncertain and not confident in his answer. I wonder how knowledgeable was about the menu. Firsts we had a raw oyster appetizer that was on special. They were topped with Ponsou and roe. Absolutely delicious. We ordered the large sashimi plate. The slices of fish were thick and fresh. The food was really good. It took a while before our waiter quietly dropped off the bill at our table. Nobody thanked us as we left.

I concur with many of the reviews that say — service is great, but the food is only okay and definitely overpriced. We came at happy hour and ended up paying more than I would have liked for that quality of a meal. For $ 10 more I could have eaten at Kru and been in heaven. Our order consisted of the McCovey roll, which I would definitely recommend or order again, and the Alaskan roll, which has sliced lemon on top. Normally when I have ordered rolls with lemon on top they are very thinly sliced, maybe because those restaurants know what a lemon tastes like. The Alaskan roll at Miyagi came out with water glass sized lemon slices; very confusing to me. Like I mentioned, however, or server was very nice, I just wish the product matched his enthusiasm!

This review is solely based on lunch take-out: Bento: spicy tuna roll & sashimi Bento: salmon & lamb For takeout, it’s difficult to judge how fresh the fish is; however, when it arrived, the sashimi tasted just fine. The spicy tuna roll was mediocre; perfect level of spiciness, but could use less mayo. The salmon and lamb were not too dry. What I like about Miyagi’s: 1) miso soup is given for take-out, which is really rare at other restaurants and 2) they’re pretty generous with pickled ginger(my favorite!). Overall, the taste was okay and price was right. Miyagi’s is better in comparison to the other sushi spots in the Fair Oaks Blvd location, but I’ve had better. Good place to go if you work or live near the area!

I’m still disappointed about my visit earlier today at lunchtime… So we arrived here on a whim… the original plan was to go to our usual sushi spot. but being the avid Unilocaler that I am, I wanted to try somewhere new so I could write a new review. We picked Miyagi because it was across the street from our current favorite dessert place, plus it has 4 stars on Unilocal.BUT… I should’ve been alarmed when we walked in. It was prime time for lunch and it’s a weekend, yet there was only one other couple eating there. Also I’ll point out the only Asian people we saw working there were the sushi chefs. If the Japanese won’t even eat here then I probably shouldn’t trust it(I’m half Japanese, should’ve known). The good — Scallop tataki appetizer. It was fresh and it was light. The scallops melted in my mouth. The sauce made it perfect. I wish I just ordered two of those as my meal. Also, the service was good. He refilled my water multiple times when I didn’t even need it yet. He mentioned we ordered his favorite rolls. Pleasant server. The stars of my review go to him and that delicious appetizer. The bad — The sushi did not meet my expectations at all. They look beautiful and come on top of a cool plate… but that’s about it. I ordered the Lexis roll. Nothing special at all. The worst — $ 63 for 3 rolls and an appetizer plus tip??? I was appalled. The quality and quantity of the sushi were both not worth that much. If I went to Kru I would expect that bill, but even our last visit to Kru was cheaper than this… It just goes to show, don’t always go by the ratings on Unilocal!Find new places by experimenting… but along the way you’ll find a few duds. Sorry Miyagi, I have to stick to my usual sushi spot.

Friday afternoon — came here on a lunch date. The restaurant is in a cute plaza across from Loehmann’s plaza and temple coffee. I’ve never noticed this complex before. Parking is pretty bad. The lot is so crowded and there are limited spaces. We were seated promptly by the host. He brought out water and a bowl of edamame. We didn’t have to wait long to put our order in, which I can appreciate. The Miyagi fish and chips — excellent! The chips are so thin, crisp, yet flavorful and the ahi tuna served on top of avocado and wakame(seaweed salad) tasted fresh. We ordered the Miyagi roll which had unagi and the Nikki roll which starred the Panko shrimp and salmon. Both rolls were saucy yet still lacking flavor. They were prepared and displayed beautifully but the flavor just wasn’t there. Overall, parking sucked, service is good, chips and fish was excellent, but sushi rolls were lacking. I would try them out again to try out other items on their menu but there’s a sumo sushi really nearby(that I haven’t tried yet) with 50% off all rolls so I’ll probably hit up that place first before I venture over here again.

Upon arriving, and it being my first time here, there were two rooms– one side had a full bar and much more lively, the other side was more family friendly. My friend and I came here on a Friday night with no reservations; lucky for us, we didn’t have to wait long. We were seated in the weird corner section. Another couple was seated after us in the weird corner too and asked, «They won’t forget to serve us here right?» to which the server said«no»; and sure enough, the servers were very attentive. They give complimentary edamame and the rolls here are a little more on the pricey side. The quality of the fish was fresh, the roll size was decent and they weren’t drenched in sauces. I can’t remember which three rolls we had ordered(see photo), but I do remember they tasted fresh. We had also ordered the fried calamari; it was a fair enough portion for 2 – 3 people, the batter was light and crispy and the sauce was yummy. I would definitely recommend to come here on a date night or to chill with friends at the bar!
