8 pc fish &8 pc prawn– really good batter, it was really crispy & not too greasy. We switched out a couple pieces of fish for catfish and it was a dollar charge for each fish It also comes with fries & coleslaw are good Side order of calamari– not that good. They have really thin strips of calamari. It was okay but I wouldn’t order again Sauces: Tartar — good Cocktail sauce– definitely my favorite sauce they have so good Great customer service but I did order to go.

Best fish and chips in Sacramento. The sauces are all homemade. Fish is dipped and cooked right when you order. The teriyaki if you in the mood is wonderful. My kids love the fish burgers and cheese burgers. I love the fried vegetables

We visit this place quite often and they are definitely one of the best fish and chip spots in Sacramento! The couple that runs the place are fantastic! I highly recommend trying them out.

I’ve had«Ocean Fish & Chips» on my radar for a couple of years now. And now having ate there for the first time, its definitely more above average than your run-of-the-mill fish and chips restaurant. Having grown up in San Francisco, I was spoiled by all the amazing seafood eateries that are offered. When it comes to prawns, calamari, oysters, clams, catfish, and filet of fish, I always got the freshest and tastiest meat on the pacific. But this isn’t San Francisco, this is Sacramento which isn’t quite known for its fish. Located in the Arden-Arcade area on Cottage Way and close to Fulton Ave., «Ocean Fish & Chips» has been serving the Sacramento area since 1999. I also got to meet the owner, John who took my order as well as giving the most popular recommendations of what customers like. And having come here with my mother and brother, we ordered different entrees so we can get a true feel of their extensive menu selection. The inside of this place is very no-frills. It isn’t quite the most spacious location but I don’t see this type of place getting overly busy(considering the part of town we’re in). There are several tables for dining, artwork that focuses on our sea creatures, and a large easy to read menu for your convenience. Additionally, they have a self-serve fountain machine as well as mens/womens restrooms towards the back. Parking is fairly easy to find since this is in a strip-mall; it is located directly next to «O’Reilly Auto Parts». After researching the menu prior to coming in here, I knew exactly what I wanted. And this was none other than the«Fish & Calamari Combination Plate»(for $ 8.29). My mother and brother took advantage of their($ 6.99) «Daily Special» which consisted of one piece of fish, prawns, and a side of fries. Since everything is made fresh to order, it took roughly 15 minutes for our food to arrive; about the same amount of time if you’re dining at a standard restaurant. Once our food came out, everything was presented very well. The server also gave us condiments(tartar sauce, ketchup, fish sauce) as well as malt vinegar. And after eating a bite of my fish, it definitely had a fresh taste with a nice texture to it. The prawns were crispy with an abundance of meat. My calamari, however wasn’t the greatest. There was way too much deep-fry batter and very little calamari meat inside; hence the reason why I have to deduct a star from this place. For those of you who aren’t the fishy type, «Ocean Fish & Chips» also serves burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, hush puppies, cheese sticks, salad, and coleslaw. They even offer teriyaki(offered in either chicken or beef) which can be ordered in a bowl or on a plate. So as you can see, the menu is very extensive. And best of all, they don’t use any trans fat nor do they have any cholesterol in their food. Overall, this is a place that I would come to again. They have very reasonable hours being open Monday through Saturday from 11am-9pm while being closed for business on Sundays. Definitely a step up from other fish & chips place I’ve dined at!

This place is no joke! I could find nothing wanting. I had the seafood sampler and every piece was perfection. Fresh, delicious, perfect. And the service was very welcoming and friendly. I left a happy man and if I’m ever back around here I’ll definitely come back.

Came here for the first time, I dont usually go for fish and chips but on rare occasion. Today I will make that a regular thing! I got the two piece and fries! It was more than enough and was reasonably priced too! I really enjoyed it! Highly recommended.

I ordered fish and calamari. Both were not fresh and overcooked. I peeled off the breading on the calamari and smelled the squid which was HORRIBLE. It smelled so old and nasty. I cannot believe they sell this kind of stuff that can make people sick. Hopefully, they get better.

I have found another hidden gem in Sacramento. I love this place. The owners are super nice and male sure you are comfortable and have what you need. It looks like a little diner. I love the tartar and cocktail sauce. I actually paired my fish with the cocktail sauce and my shrimp with the tartar sauce and it was just delicious. The cocktail sauce isn’t really spicy but it has a nice kick to it. I will definitely be returning here in the near future!

My go-to spot for fish and chips in Sacramento. It’s owned by a cute Asian couple that greets every customer with enthusiasm as they enter. The lady seems to know a lot of her customer’s by name. Got the one piece fish and calamari. The fish and calamari, and chips(fries), came out perfectly battered, light, crispy, and fresh. The order was adequate for two as a light snack, but since it was so good we easily could’ve done more. Since we only ordered one item, they were considerate enough to provide another basket to split without even having to ask for it. There’s a wide variety of items on their menu, including teriyaki, and burgers, which I’ll be back to try one of these days. Oh, and the place is pretty well kept and clean. Even though it’s a bit tricky to find, it’s well worth getting lost to try out(it’s really not that hard to find). FYI they use vegetable oil to fry(you know… in case you ever go on a date with someone that has peanut allergies).

Agree with what has been said before me. Awesome food and great customer service. I’ll be back(Arnold S. accent). I had the 3 piece fish and chips for $ 8.29. Probably the freshest fish I have ever tasted in a fish in chips. Not greasy at all. The fries were perfectly cooked as well.

I came here because I was getting my car worked on across the street… Typical fish & chips place run by Asian owners. I got the fish & chips(fries) with scallops. It came out fast and pipping hot with a side of ketchup, tartar sauce, malted vinegar, and a lemon wedge. The place is small, but clean and organized. Would come here again if I was in the area.

Wow! Shortly we moved to the Sacramento area from San Francisco, we discovered Ocean Fish & Chips. I am so glad we did. Good fish & chips is comfort food for my partner and me. The fish is fresh and it is cooked to perfection. The tartar sauce they serve is amazing — kind of creamy. The chips are great too. We always have calamari too. Love it! We love the staff. The lady that waits on us always remembers us. She is really sweet and always smiles. The service is really exceptional. The location is really out of the way for us, but it’s worth the drive. Not much in terms of atmosphere. Clean but not fancy. But, the food is so brilliant nothing else matters.

Today was a bit disappointed. Too much batter, not enough food. Maybe it’s just time to find another location for seafood, since I don’t see food on my plate for the $$$.

We were looking to grab a quick bite near Exposition Blvd and this place showed up in the search. It is an order at the counter place, with not much ambience. And pretty much everything on the menu is inexpensive batter fried seafood. Tried the seafood combo, clam chowder and fried mushrooms. The seafood combo came with 1 piece of fish, 2 scallops, 3 oysters and 3 prawns. It was good, but could use more seasoning. Clam chowder was average, don’t recommend

Came in here the other night with my husband and and have been in here a few times before at lunch. This evening it was close to closing and quiet and they were so attentive and very happy to see us. I ordered the two piece fish with fried zucchini instead of fries and hubby, not a fan of fish or seafood in general, ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl. The food was hot and fresh and they brought it out to our table. The fried zucchini is the bomb and worth coming back for just that. I cannot wait to try the onion rings next time too. Hubby really enjoyed his bowl and said it was very good and unlike other places he didn’t feel as though anything fishy touched his food or was cooked in the same oil or pan etc. He isn’t a fan of coming to fish places with me cause he says even if he gets chicken it still tastes fishy to him LOL. The gentleman that took our order was very sweet and thanked us for our business(maybe he was the owner) he made us feel like valued customers and was genuinely happy we came in and I will certainly be returning again and again for this great food. The fish was hot, fresh and not greasy at all. I left with a full belly and happy feelings. This is a place you should really try out they have a very extensive menu and something for everyone… even those non seafood people like my husband!

I am not the type of Unilocal reviewer to seek out places with great reviews just to disagree with them. In fact, I bookmark restaurants with good reviews in hopes that I can enjoy a great meal too. Unfortunately, this is one of those times where I am going have to go against the popular opinion. Truth be told, I enjoy a good fish & chips meal. A few months ago, I had the pleasure of eating at Old Fisherman’s Grotto in Monterey California and had an amazing dish of fish & chips with a side of Malt vinegar. When I read the Sacramento magazine featuring the 25 best dishes in the area– I was intrigued by the review of Ocean Fish & Chips. I immediately bookmarked the business, and talked my wife into driving 20 something miles to this grimy location. Look for the beat up faded sign that simply says«Fish & Chips»(see below). As soon as you walk in, you are hit with the smell of fried food and dirt. I was hesitant to even place an order, but I decided to overlook the disgusting appearance in hopes that I could experience quality fish and chips. Newsflash– neither the fish or chips were anything to rave about. In fact, the entire meal of fish, fries, onion rings, and hushpuppies tasted the same. Slightly oily and bland, the fish had a batter that was terribly under-seasoned. When I peeled off the batter to look at the actual fish, I noticed that the fish was bruised all over like someone used a baseball bat to tenderize it. I was severely disappointed in both the quality and taste of everything that I ordered. I can’t believe this place was listed as one of the top 25 places to try in the area. I won’t ever come back, and encourage you to avoid this place unless you enjoy eating in filth. I am giving this place one extra star for the nice gentleman behind the counter — otherwise this is a 1 star dining experience based on the food alone.

I love deep fried fish & seafood like a fat kid loves cake & we finally found a spot close to our Casa that fits me to a T so its a win~win. Mom & Pop place where Helen & John the owners have always been there manning the ship and have always been genuinely sweet, playful, professional & delivered amazing customer service along with either amazing eats. This is priceless for me. Ocean has affordable prices but damn I feel compelled to actually say«cheaply priced» BUT the quality, freshness, flavor & volume of food & service isn’t cheap. They sell several varieties of fish here which is mind blowing when you take into consideration the petite business front including: Calamari, Oysters, Catfish, Red Snapper, Prawns & they may have more but I don’t know I’m busy eating… BATTERALERT! They do not drown your fried goods in more batter than whatever is supposed to be on the inside of said dish. It’s the perfect amount of batter to satisfy that crispy batter craving & full of perfectly cooked fresh fish/meat on the inside. Located in a lil strip mall on the corners of Fulton & Cottage Way and I mean little as if you blink you’ll miss it completely so don’t blink; try them. The Arden/Fulton area may bring with it its fair share of scummy people walking the streets & panhandling however it also houses some of the best damn food around so don’t let this trafficy area fool you as Ocean and its inside and outside surroundings are clean, up-kept and sanitary. No smelly fishy odors either. +1! Daily Specials: They have them. @ $ 6.99each +tax On my maiden voyage here it was 2 large as in 8−9-inch long pieces of pure white fish, your choice of a side so I passed on the french fries & opted for their freshly prepared coleslaw which is some of the freshest, zingy~sweet~salty goodess slaw I’ve had yet. Beyond amazing! Their slaw is 1 of the best to date which reminds me I need to create a ‘list’ for coleslaw alone. No extra charge for the slaw either also a +1 as it chaps my hide when businesses do this for low carbers aka: Here eat this carb bloat laden cheap potato and or rice instead paying customer AND if you want some veggies well we’re gonna charge you for them… pfffffff. Okay back on track sorry for the rant. Second time in we dined on the 2-Piece Fish for $ 6.79(yes it appears to be the same thing I had above now that I think about it) and once again the fresh slaw. I notice that once I find something I love I don’t veer from that much lol. Anywhoo I also tried on last nights dine-in meal at Ocean their deep fried Calamari Strips @12 of them for $ 4.99 were also excellent; crisply fried batter & tender calamari on the inside. Fountain drinks! I’m a sucker for fountain drinks it’s true and although the refills are not bottomless you do get 1 additional one for your purchase price. This is fair as quite frankly I can see how bottomless can get abused. KID’s Menu: I love this option. Chicken Strips, Mini Fish and Popcorn Shrimp are the selections all of which include fries & a drink all for either $ 3.99 or $ 4.99. SAUCES! LOVELOVELOVE their sauces from malted vinegar to their clean & filled to the rim squirt bottles delivered right to your table with your eats of delicious cocktail sauce, tarter sauce which I swear is homemade & Sriracha. Shamefully I use the hell out of the Sriracha and Tarter Sauce but its so good! Okay, that’s all I got ;)
