Tootsies! First time being in Sacramento + in a rush to get back to metered parking that was ending in 20 minutes, it was a nice stop for a quick grab for lunch. It’s a small hole in the wall place that looks like a small town liquor store but don’t let looks deceive you. Plentiful drinks and chips and snacks, nice handful of cold and hot sandwiches, and soft serve non fat ice cream! I asked what the most popular hot sandwich was and got the BBQ beef sandwich – $ 6.78! A total order of 5 sandwiches came out in about 15 minutes. My BBQ beef sandwich came in a nicely wrapped aluminum and paper foil and warm but the sandwich was very basic. Just hamburger buns and slices of beef with BBQ sauce, no lettuce or nothing. My fault for having higher expectations and not asking what was in the sandwich but disappointed I didn’t get the bang for my buck. P. s. Cold sandwiches were $ 5 – 6 and warm sandwiches were $ 6 – 7. However, the cashier guy was extremely friendly speaking both English and Spanish, service was great. And the ice cream was very delicious served on a cake cone, it even looked very pretty – about $ 3. Tootsies had it’s pros and cons, I would pass on the sandwiches but most likely come back for the ice cream!

Tootsies has long been a mandatory morning stop for me to stock up on Go Girls, boiled eggs, salads, etc. and I have long loved them… but I think we might be breaking up. Lately they’ve been burning really strong incense in the teeny(and I mean smaller-than-a-prison-cell type teeny) shop that is so overpowering that it makes my eyes water and causes me to cough for a good 10 – 15 minutes after I leave. I’ve commented that it is too strong several times and they either literally ignore that there are words coming out of my mouth, or just stare at me with mild hostility. If you don’t want to put it out, fine — but do acknowledge that you have created a shitty atmosphere for your customers, and at least offer me a token, «so sorry(get the hell out)». To say the least, this is all putting a bad taste in my mouth(and nose, and eyes, and clothes, and hair). I think I’d rather walk a little farther and hit up Hana’s for my needs.

Tootsies is a tiny hole in the wall right next to the more frequented Chicory. While the only thing that really stands out is the chute that food comes down, it’s a quick and convenient stop between my office and the Capitol for a quick drink, or my preferred medium vanilla soft-serve with Reese’s Pieces for $ 4. Nothing fancy, nothing special. Just a quaint spot to grab a quick drink.

After years of working around the capitol I finally stumbled into Tootsies. I am a vegetarian and order the veggie sandwich and grab a bag of chips and I am all set for a great lunch in the office or on the tables out front. I go there about twice a week. It isn’t fancy and probably not a place to take your clients or anybody you want to impress but it is a great place to grab a quick bite and with no hassle.

I am a Tootsies fan. They offer affordable and quick basic sandwiches that they assemble in the upstairs kitchen and then send down a chute. Yes, it’s a hole in the wall but the food is decent and in addition to salads and sandwiches they have ballpark type yummies such as hot dogs, nachos, and mozzarella sticks. A basic lunch from there for me is a tuna sandwich on wheat($ 4.50) and a side salad — small contained packed to the brim($ 2.50). Best of all; they have nonfat frozen yogurt! Standard flavors offered daily are chocolate and vanilla with one or two additional flavors a day that they rotate. My favorites include pumpkin, cheesecake, and peanut butter. With no fat and only about 160 calories a small frozen yogurt is the perfect afternoon delight!

This place is a little hole in the wall. Usually this is my preferred type of restaurant. When you walk in there is an acrylic slide that goes from a hole in the ceiling to the counter. Jokingly I asked to order something that comes down the chute. I was told that the kitchen is upstairs and all food comes down the chute. I ordered the meat ball sandwich, and was told that it comes with Jack Cheese. I eagerly waited to see my food take the 12 foot plunge and had small talk with my friend. Shortly after his order was placed we were asked to wait outside. While I understand this place is small, I kinda wanted to see the sandwich drop. The food is brought to us outside. I open up the sandwich and it was not what I was expecting. It was 4 meatballs on a hamburger bun. Usually I would expect it to be on a roll. I bit into it and realized that what I was eating was not meat, and most likely falafel. I don’t mind eating vegetarian food, but when you have your mind made up on a meatball sub and you get a falafel burger… I was not satisfied. I looked at my friends«BBQ Pork» sandwich, and tore off a peice of rubbery meat. I ate it and thought it was the consistency of Soy. Unhappy, I threw my sandwich away and walked back inside and had this conversation. Me: Excuse me? Her: Yes? Me: Is this a vegetarian restaurant? Her: We have garden burgers. Me: Is that what you use in the meat ball sandwich? Her: No Me: Is there meat in the meatball sandwich? Her: Yes. Me: … Her: … To which I left. When I say I had a falafel burger, it’s me HOPING that is what I ate. The food was by no means fantastic, and definitely not what I was expecting. I will most likely not eat here again, except for extreme circumstances.

Sure it’s a chilly 52 degrees F in Sacramento, but the sun is out! At 3:30 in the afternoon, the(upstairs) kitchen was closed. My coworker said sandwiches slide down a chute when your order is ready. I must return to see this for myself! They also have hot dogs & mozzerella sticks! No worries, I was craving soft-serve. $ 3 for the small cup, and big enough to tied me over ’til dinner. No automatic swirl machine, here. Just talent — I got 50 – 50 nonfat blueberry & vanilla. Hint: This place is between Chops and Chicory — and they have a walk-up window. Popular with State Capitol folks
