Great little diner just like it use to be back in the day. Great staff, great food. A touch of the past. Perfect for small groups. Whimsical, the hole place sang Johnny Cash«Burn Ring of Fire» together from the juke.

Old school diner that gets the job done. The locals love it here, so that’s kind of all you need to know. This isn’t a tourist-heavy spot and it has everything you could ask for on the menu. Bentley’s even does catering and bakes cakes, which is different for a diner. Diner food is fine as expected, and there isn’t a ton of seating… but their pie is spot on. So, yeah. Maybe I’ll come back and get the Pasty since some fellow Unilocalers recommended it.

Excellent food. Service was okay. The waitress seemed a little flustered. Old diner feel. Don’t expect glamour or new furnishings.

The pie. This is why poetry exists. No really — home-made, fantastic crust, strawberry rhubarb. I will name my first-born Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and my second-born B-n-L. (The only reason I’m not giving this place four stars is that I didn’t like the fries. They are indeed home-made, but too oily and not well-seasoned. But the fries are $ 1 extra anyway, so skip them and go for the home-made chips.) My Michigan-born partner loved the white fish sandwich. Toasted buns. Yes.

Stopped on a busy day during a truck show. Service and wait time was excellent. Ordered three burgers and fish all was well cooked and seasoned would definitely return.

If you like 40’s –50’s nostalgia and great home cooked food you will LOVE this place. Small, quaint, and friendly as can be. The wait staff are all attentive and enjoyable. We had breakfast but took pasties to go for supper at home as well as the amazing maple oatmeal pie. Breakfast was all fresh homemade ingredients. Home fries yummy and no grease. Sausage gravy was great tasting and fluffy homemade biscuits. Great coffee and very reasonable prices.

We stopped for lunch here on advice and reviews from Unilocal and TripAdvisor. I am so glad we did. Our waitress could not have been friendlier, or more attentive. The whole ambience transported me back to childhood visits to similar diners, when the coolest thing in the world was to sit on one of those stools, maybe twirl til your mom caught you, and get ice cream. This was a lunch stop, so we went for burgers(hubby loved his mushroom swiss, and I enjoyed a Patty melt), but the hit of the day for me was the home cut fries. I am NOT a french fry fan, but these made me so HAPPY. They were just like my mom used to make, not the frozen pre-cut fries everyone serves. If you don’t go here for anything else, go for the fries. They’ll make you smile.

We paid the $ 4.00 fee both ways, just to cross the Mackinaw bridge, so we could eat a pasty from the U.P. Bentley’s came highly recommended, and it did not disappoint us. We were told that if it wasn’t from the Upper Peninsula, then it wasn’t a true pasty, and I’d say that we got one of the best. My wife and I both asked for the beef pasty, since it was made with round steak, and(my, oh my), that was delicious. We had also heard about the homemade pies, and since pasty’s are made with a crust, and pies are also made with a crust, these people must be crusty experts. They had only 2 pieces of cherry left, and we got them both. They didn’t even ask, but the pie came with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, and we were right, excellent crust and what tasted like real cherries inside, and was very good. We got our pasty fix. I give this place a rating of five for an overall good job.

BLUF: 5 stars based on service and atmosphere(and the pie). We went hear for the pasties. Small place with a 50’s diner feel. Service was unbelievably friendly and helpful. They were all great. Seems like some people associated with the place hangout when they are not working which is nice too. I got a beef pastie because I had never had one. Basically a potpie but in the shape of a burrito and gravy on the side. She told me I had to eat it with ketchup which I tried but I liked the gravy better. Pasties are pretty good and I bet if I lived in the UP I would get them all the time. That being said they are not very exciting to the mouth.(my company said it was one of the better ones they had ever had and they are from about 3 hours away) We also got burgers which were very standard. I ended with a slice of berry blast pie(basically all their berries in one pie). It was amazing and pies are very important to me. This was a great piece of pie. Their pies are pretty popular and I got the last slice of the last pie remaining. Overall the place is amazing. I wish I could have gone back for a breakfast because the breakfast pastie sounded amazing. Great place and great people.

Great and fun place. Layout is bizarre, but it was a good pastie and excellent service. Linda made us tourists feel like it was home. I would come back for the apple pie. Best I’ve ever had. Ever.

Great whitefish sandwich. It was fresh and sweet. AWESOME maple oatmeal pie!!! Best pie ever. It was nutty and crunchy top. I am not a pie fan but I love that pie and would always want to order a whole maple oatmeal pie to take home.

Came here for ice cream on a Saturday night prior to fireworks. The place was PACKED. Even though it was hot and busy(No A/C here, folks) the ladies working the counter were so sweet, funny, and helpful. The prices were reasonable and the ice cream was cold and flavorful. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars was I only had ice cream, not a full meal.

Fantastic food, great service and good coffee. We went during breakfast, I highly recommend the sausage gravy. Love the 50’s dining experience, this will be our breakfast stop when we are in the city!

We stopped by for a waffle cone and went back for breakfast the next morning. So friendly! He had the biscuits smothered in gravy & fresh hash browns. I had the breakfast skillet which was fresh eggs, potatoes, onions, peppers and added bacon. Nom! We both had to leave some food behind much to our surprise. Decent coffee. Great value. I am GF and simply skipped the bread. We were the first in the door so first on the stove.

Our family went there and had a good meal. I personally wanted a true Pastie made in the UP. This is what comfort food is all about. Very savory and filling. I would go and get one again.

Heavy, dense pasties with a rich gravy — excellent if you need a warm-up. Jovial servers, goofy décor, and some soup to warm you up. The vegetarian pasty was reasonable — definitely not as robust as the beef, but it did involve some real veggies(rather than the frozen-peas-and-carrots filling I’ve sometimes encountered). The gravy really is quite heavy, as is the dough; and these are plate-and-fork pasties, no way you could carry this in a lunch pail into a mine. This used to be the«Bentley’s Breakfast-n-Lunch,» but now it’s «Bentley’s B-M-L» named after the owner’s daughters. The servers have a high tolerance for weird tourists, but there may be laughter if they think you can take it. They correctly thought I could.

So so happy we were able to have a pasty before heading back to PA(where have NO pasties). It was a Sunday night and nothing was open, so when I saw an Open sign in the window and another neon sign that said Pasties, I was there! This place is vintage and I loved it! My boys and I sat on the bar stools and enjoyed some chatter with the ladies working there. We had one of each kind of pasty — Chicken(with chicken gravy), beef(with beef gravy) and plain veggie. Best pasties we’ve ever had! I could eat the crust all day long. Soooo doughy and flavorful! The meat, potatoes, and carrots were perfectly mixed with herbs and spices. And they were huge! Well worth the $ 7.95. I actually shared mine with my son and had some left for my hubby to finish off. Only wish we’d had more time for pie and ice cream. The sea salted caramel ice cream would have paired perfectly with the homemade apple pie! Next time!
