This place is a disgusting place to be! Water from the toilets leaked on the floor in the bathroom, horrible service and horrible people. Never going back!

Very cool spot. Only place in slc where you can get a restaurant meal and drinks while seeing a movie at the same time! Best date idea. We love coming here when we get a sitter. It’s so much fun and a way diff movie experience!!! Who doesn’t love eating and drinking at the movies?!

I’ve been to Movie Grill in Ogden and had high expectations for this place. Sadly, the seating is regular movie theatre seating with a long bench running the length of the row for your food and drinks. My husband and I were in the middle of the row and bringing our orders to our seats was a nightmare. I heard several beers hit the floor throughout the movie including the woman right next to me. I had my husband snag us seats while I went to get food and drinks. I had him look at the menu on his phone and then text me what he wanted so that we wouldn’t lose our seats. I then had to carefully make my way to our seats(luckily I didn’t spill anyone’s drinks) and then wait for the little vibrating token to let me know that our food was done. Then sent my husband to get the food because I didn’t trust myself to not drop the pizza on other movie goers after having some close calls trying to get to my seat. Overall I’d rather go out to eat before or after a movie over this place.

I am going to start this review by saying I hope the owner of Brewvies responds to this review, I would like to settle this matter. I Was at Brewvies last night when my date when we deliberately had beer spilled on us by a group sitting next to us, then were threatened by them multiple times till we had to leave. The other guests were threatening to torture us after the film in the parking lot after the film. Plenty of other patrons heard them, and some even spoke to management on our behalf. We went to management for help and they did next to nothing. They would not remove the people who were threatening us, which was a group of about 10 people. To quote the manager a heavy set gentleman«I make 8 bucks an hour what do you expect me to do?» They could have simply asked them to leave and called the police if they did not comply. I managed to drink about 1⁄10 of my beer before the incident. Brewvies would not refund my dates and my drinks or movie tickets for a film I got to see 15 minutes of. In fact this lady who worked there as a waitress new the people who were causing the problem and pretty much egged them on. I used to go to Brewvies so often they don’t card me anymore, and this is how they treat a good customer. They likely over served the party that started the incident, and would do nothing to help a women who was treated by a group of 10 men. Think if you really want to take your date to this place. I am going to credit card dispute the charges. The downside is I really used to love this place.

Something happened to this place. Once a 5 star joint with quality food worth the modest prices they were asking now is a place with service slower than molasses in January and overpriced mediocre food(they charge $ 14.00 for an appetizer of 8 potstickers that the bartender admitted was just frozen potstickers from Costco that come frozen in a $ 10.002LB bag). Their burgers used to be juicy and delicious, now they just taste thawed and dry. Sadly, the service has also gone way down, I went a few weeks ago to see a flick and rather than give us numbers to grab our food they assured us it’d be out in time for us to enjoy then see a movie that we stressed was in an hour. It took them an hour and a half and we ended up skipping out of the movie because the food was so late and they couldn’t get it together. We explained we had missed the movie and wanted a refund, so they gave us passes. Cool, that works, until we returned to see a movie and they wouldn’t accept the passes because the movie was new. Funny thing is, all their movies are new(ish). Brewvies has a lot of potential to be a really great local institution, but they need to either lower the cost of their currently bland overpriced food, or up the quality of it so it’s worth it. And they really need to up their staff’s game, they’re slow(one of the last times I was there it took them 30 minutes just to take our drink order at the bar — and another 35 minutes just to take our food order — not exaggerating) and also not very friendly. Brewvies doesn’t quite feel like the community hub for good food, drinks and flicks, it just feels like a place no one wants to work at and doesn’t really want to serve you(just get your money).

Brewvies food a little over priced. Beer is fresh and enjoy the movie without screaming kids. My kind of movie night.

Overall a great place to see a movie. I’ve never had food here that blew me away, but all of it is «fine» in the best sense of the word. I do think the spinach dip stands out, but you get a really small portion that it almost seems silly that it’s an appetizer for sharing. Movie tickets are comparatively inexpensive due to the fact that most everyone ends up buying food and/or drinks. A few bottled beers are pretty cheap(Corona, Blue Moon, etc) or you can waste your time getting Utah Draught. They only have 2 theaters and thus show only 2 movies at a time, so just keep that in mind when buying tickets for a weekend night. Their online ticket purchasing system is pretty simple to use and doesn’t charge you an insane fee like Cinemark.

Movie starts ONTIME… no previews, so don’t think you have that additional time to get ticket/food. Seating in front row doesn’t have a place to put food drink-poor design. Pizza had butter on crust — really?does pizza need anymore calories? does pizza need a buttery crust… bleh! Pizza was«meh» otherwise. Popcorn was popcorn-can’t mess that up. Beer was beer. I would likely go again, just making sure to get there a little earlier, not have to sit in front row and not order pizza.

Brewvies is a great experience that all believe all drinking Utahns(and even non-drinking) should participate in at least once in their Utah living lives. The idea is simple, but in Utah… Isn’t it extremely unheard of? Being able to enjoy a beer/wine/alcoholic beverage… while watching a newly released film… in public? A theater with a bar, or a bar with a theater? It’s the Chicken/Egg debate, but which ever way you name it — I like it. Do keep this very much in the front of you mind when going to Brewvies. you are around many drinking and quite possibly already-very-drunk people while watching a film… which means it isn’t going to be quiet. It’s not going to be the film experience you receive when going to a theater that lacks *legal* alcohol. Turning around to patrons and giving them dirty-passive-aggressive looks will not fly here, and honestly, will probably go unnoticed. You come here to kick back, drink a couple, and have a great time with your fellow movie-goers. That being said, I’ve never had an unpleasant experience here. Yes, people are very frequently moving past you to get another drink, then to pick up food, then to run to the bathroom, then to get that last drink… but what do expect when you throw drunks into a room with a theater? If you know what you’re in for before you go, you’ll have a fun and very enjoyable time. Brewvies encourages the alcoholism of students(believe me, it’s necessary) by offering discounted film tickets to those with a valid student ID [$ 6, as opposed to the already cheap $ 8 general admission ticket]. These are probably the cheapest movie tickets you’ll find anywhere around town, so that’s a huge plus. ALSO if you see a film on Tuesdays? You’ll be paying a flat $ 6. Add beer on top of that, and that’s SAVINGS. Might as well have 2 beers for that kind of deal. They are also known for their free film showings on Mondays of older, more classic films [or thematic for the month or holiday they are near]. These films happen at 10pm, which makes it fun if you don’t work the next morning, but not all of us have that luxury. I’ve been to a total of one free showing on a Monday [The Fifth Element] — but it was super fun. These are the most rowdy of showings, as those who made it out at 10pm on a Monday are usually big fans of the film being played. So you’ll be around your loud, drunk, film-lovin’ people. Great way to shake off the Mondays. I’ve also enjoyed coming in early before a film showing. They have an area where you can play pool while you wait, relax and get some noms beforehand, or just overall enjoy the bar scene. I did come in once when they had opened the pool tables to be free… I believe this«free play» changes come around maybe 5pm? But don’t quote me on that. Oh. And of course, no one under 21 is getting in. Don’t attempt it, unless your fake is pretty good* [ha! yeah right]. It is Utah, after all… and the alcohol’s flowing from everywhere. So I believe the Brevwies chicken/egg debate has been settled. It’s first a bar… with two theaters thrown into the mix for a little flair. I bet the after film clean-up is absolutely horrific. *=Does not endorse underage drinking. Stay in school, kids.

Its not the best theater. Its not the best bar. But when you put them together, Its awesome. We all really enjoyed the concept. I found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Great service and a full bar. We came a couple hours early, ate, laughed, and enjoyed our night. The theater has a few tables, and a shelf running along the back of the seat in front of you to put your food and drinks on. Order food at the bar, and they’ll notify you when its ready. The food is OK. It’s decent enough bar food, but the pizza is really quite good and they seem to do it right. Worth a try. We’ll definitely be back.

I should start by saying Alamo Drafthouse is my dream of a movie-going experience. Breweries is a far cry from that. But had I never been to Alamo I’d still be rating Brewvies with two stars based on other bar/movie theaters of this caliber. Everywhere you go inside Brewvies smells like farts. I’ve been there three different times and each of those three different people have said out loud, «Does it smell like farts everywhere in here?» YES, it does. The other issue is how drunk and obnoxious movie-goers get. It’s as though the fart smell puts people on their worst behavior. They shout at the screen and get up constantly to pee and obtain more beer. Don’t go here for a movie you want to actually watch. I’ve contacted them twice about renting the theater for private screenings. They reply but won’t confirm, even for a middle of the week lunchtime rental. We also saw The Martian here. Ten minutes into the film someone entered and said, «We started this movie too early. We’re restarting it from the beginning.» That was annoying but not nearly as annoying as the drunk crowd reacting to the news. Brewvies rarely gets the big movies or they get them late. But they have great veggie dogs, cheap beer, and a good staff. Considering it’s the only bar/movie theater in town, it’s not that bad. Just stick to the movies you’re not dying to see and you probably won’t mind all the distractions.

Great for what it is… a movie theater that serves beer and food. Not nearly as amazing as the Bear Tooth(Anchorage, AK) but still good… especially for Utah. Staff — very friendly and helpful. Military discount for movies. Food — okay, nothing remarkable but satisfactory Drinks — we just ordered beer pitcher, great in and of itself as it seems Utah has unique rules about when/where you can order pitchers Movie — fantastic! Whole reason we came was for the movie and it was nice that this is adult only theater as we weren’t seeing a kid-friendly movie.

First off, I’m at that age where I don’t really enjoy dive bars anymore. They were fun back in college but I’ve moved on. That said, Brewvies is a Utah icon so it’s worth checking out at least once. It’s just what you’d expect, a dive bar environment with dive bar food and dive bar level service. Throw in a Sugarhouse dollar theater sized screen and voila! You have Brewvies. They have loungers in the back of the theater, which who knows what people have done in them but you can smell it as soon as you walk into the theater. The rest of the seats are standard theater seats with a long counter built in front for your food and drinks. However, these aren’t your modern megaplex style theater seats, they’re probably at least a decade old. We went here for a «guy’s night» but I probably wouldn’t come back, it’s just not my thing anymore. If you really want to drink in a movie theater, just sneak a flask into Jordan Commons or The District. They have trays for your food and better food, better service and way better seats, sound system and screens. Plus, the theater won’t smell like mixture of old spooge and rancid beer.

This place is great for what it is, somewhere to get beer, food, and watch a movie. The thing that gave Brewvies 3 stars is that when I saw a movie here, there were flies on the projector screen. It made it look like the movie had giant fly shadows in it the entire time. It was SO annoying. When I told the workers at the counter about it they said there was nothing they could do. So in recap, go there for the beer and watch a movie you don’t really care about. Chances are if you want to see anything in good quality that will not happen.

Because we’re in Utah, it doesn’t matter what movie we choose, nor what time or day – there will be loud, out of control toddlers. No one under 21 can enter Brewvies – problem solved! We very rarely go see a movie anywhere else. Enjoying a cocktail or beer with the show is a bonus, as is the varied food menu. The quality of the food has not been entirely consistent, but it’s still better than your standard concession stand. The menu is frequently updated, and the Pasta I had less than 2 weeks ago isn’t even offered any more, which is OK as it lacked flavor. Better Garlic Bread sticks would be an improvement, too. Honestly, I keep thinking I should get the Garlic Burger again – it’s the first thing I ate here, and still my favorite. The location is dated, yet clean. Climate control was an issue a few years ago, but is wonderful now. We have always encountered friendly and polite staff.

It’s an old theater. An old theater that has a full bar inside. The picture and sound quality isn’t really up to pay with newer theaters, but there’s an full bar. It’s not the cleanest nor the best smelling, but there’s a full bar. The ticket prices are probably 3 to 4 dollars cheaper per ticket than the average more modern theater, and there’s a full bar. They also serve bar type food… and there’s a full bar. There’s a full bar… in a movie theater.

Writing this review is difficult. I have been to Brewvies at least five or six times and every single time it was a wildly different experience: everything from service to food quality to crowd mentality seems to change on a whim. Look, here’s the good: Brewvies is a full bar with pub food AND a movie theater. You can drink in the movie, you can eat in the movie. The simple fact that a place like Brewvies exists in Utah makes me happy. The fact that I can go to a movie theater and not have to deal with 12 crying babies that somehow all belong to the same set of parents makes me happy. However, it’s a bar and it’s a movie theater, so if you’re looking to see a movie that demands your close attention, don’t go here. The light-up board next to the screen(which announces your ticket number so you can exit the movie mid-show to get your food) is very distracting, drunk patrons with no regard for human decency are distracting, and sometimes the place is not the cleanliest. Most of this is due to inconsiderate customers who leave food lying around and empty beers sitting out(or spilled on the floor). Also, the food is average at best. CostCo burger patties and bread. Now, there are worse places, but there are also much better. I’ve been to the Alamo Drafthouse and the experience was vastly superior. But Brewvies is all we’ve got here in SLC, and for that I am thankful. They sometimes hold special events here, like the Can’t Stop the Serenity Firefly shindig or TV show viewings like Top Chef or The Walking Dead, and those are always great because everyone is there for the same thing and they all want to enjoy it. But this can’t be said of the regular patrons on any given night of the week because sometimes it’s full of annoying, careless fools. But if you go out with some friends to see a comedy or a big dumb action movie while grabbing some fries and a few beers, it’ll be great fun.

When I die, I want my gravestone to read«Here lies Rebekah. She loved Brewvies SOOOOO much she probably died of loving it too much.» I LOVEBREWVIES. It’s so ridiculously fun and awesome. I always go with my group of friends and we always leave feeling satisfied and happy. The waiter/dudes are SO funny. We get the same one every times and he’s my favorite person probably on the planet. No idea what his name is but I feel like that’s beside the point. The point is that he’s great and funny and chill and… wow? should I date him??? Usually the theaters arent very crowded, the food is so good(like their pizza? damn, like get outta town! these are so good I can’t even find accurate words to convey to you my love for this establishment and their pizza), they have an awesome selection of drinks and everyone is in such a chill mood. I love seeing movies here. Man, I love this place.

How can this place not get 5 stars when you can get food and alcoholic beverages AND watch your movie all at the same time?!? Food situation: I got the fries and they were delicious. I have not eaten anything else there but when I was seeing what everyone else had ordered, my mouth was watering. The menu is your typical bar/American food scene. Nachos, pizza, burgers, fries, all the delicious things! Drink situation: Sweet… like, super sweet for Utah! They have a lot of beers on tap as well as bottles(local beers and domestic for both). You can order a big ol beer from Epic or grab a stein of beer on tap. If you are with friends go ahead, grab a pitcher… either way, this makes going to the movies all the more entertaining! Theater situation: The theater has couches and tables in the back for the more causal movie goers. You can get a group of friends huddled up in the back and pull up a few tables, or you can opt for the more traditional theater row seating. The cool thing about the more traditional seating is that every row of seats has a table area for your food and beverage. That way you can sit back, relax, watch the flick, and chow down! Ambiance: 5 stars. They have pool tables, a bar area that is on the other side of the theater, and the vibe is really chill and laid back. Not divey, but definitely a nice bar scene. You would be surprised walking in, especially because the outside is a bit deceiving. Please note, I started the review with FOOD/DRINKS… what other movie theater can you say has that on Unilocal? I hope to go here a few more times while I am home for the holidays… and also hope that I can influence someone in San Jose to make this happen!
