Long wait times and overpriced food. The food is good and the people are very nice. I wouldn’t be able to afford to go there very often, and if you are not wanting carbs, you still have to pay for the pancakes on some meals.

Discovered this place by accident was hangry and in a weird part of the city running errands. We stopped here for food and all I can say is amazing! Best breakfast in all of utah. Their pancakes are to die for and the pot of gold is definitely our favorite. Fiancé and I are grateful this place exists. Wait is LONG on weekend morning but worth it. Yes it’s connected to low income apartments and also in a weird part of salt lake but the service and food are well worth it.

Best breakfast in SLC. Actually, one of the only truly good places to eat in SLC! This city has a pretty poor food scene, but Penny Ann’s Café would be good anywhere. The«heavenly hotcakes» really are as good as advertised! Haven’t tried any of the lunch offerings, but I’ve had pretty much all of the breakfast items and they’re all on-point. Service is above average for SLC, too!

Great place to eat. Food came out hot and better than expected. I had the Chicken Parm sandwich with onions rings… yea it was delicious. My wife’s plate was even better with the Chicken Cordon Blue sandwich with 50⁄50 fries. Awesome place, we will be back.

This café is the epitome of a traditional American café/diner; small, quaint, friendly servers, and comfort food for any pallet. Breakfast at Penny Anne’s is not only scrumptious but filling. Omelettes come out piping hot with a mound of fillings-the potatoes and pancake ‘sides’ are really too much. Their pancakes… well lets just say they might just persuade Celiacs to finish off more than a short stack. And they take their heavenly pancakes from a ten to an eleven every Autumn by adding pumpkin. Lets just say that PAC does it right and shames all other inferior pumpkin pancakes. They can get pretty busy and the kitchen gets backed up, so you might encounter a bit of a wait after you get seated. 20 minutes from ordering has been my longest wait thus far. Don’t forget to save room for pie!

My first time here without a wait; what a joy that was! I was immediately greeted and seated out on the patio. My server was really nice and made sure my water never got below half a cup since it was really warm out. We ordered the Stuffed French Toast with Nutella and Bananas and the Breakfast Burrito. Overall, the French Toast was quite tasty. The only part that needs improvement is the need for a little more Nutella in the French Toast… I could hardly taste the Nutella but had a good amount of bananas. The Breakfast Burrito was a disappointment because the potatoes were cold; it seemed as though they were not fresh and instead pulled out of a freezer, which then caused my cheese not to be completely melted in the burrito. The service was great and for the most part, so was the food.

Super fast and courteous service with delicious meals, and most importantly pancakes! I am not a big fan of pancakes, but there must be something in them that appeals to everyone, hence I was not an exception.

Went to the new Taylorsville location. The wait was almost an hour. Then once ordered another 45 min to get our food. Pancakes were cold. They forgot to make my omelet so I sat and waited for my food while my friends ate. Once I got my food the presentation was not good. It was obviously thrown together. Just very sub par & no flavor. I won’t be returning.

I am still looking for a wonderful place to have Sunday morning breakfast. Based on that I tried Penny Ann;s. It is very small and the food is okay. Let’s just say I’m still looking for a place for a great Sunday morning breakfast.

We went on a Saturday at about 11AM. The wait was about 20 mins, not too bad. We were first served our heavenly hot cakes. Yes they are heavenly. All four of us loved the pancakes. We all agreed that we could have just had the pancakes and been satisfied. I had the pot of gold breakfast. It was good but very heavy. It’s been 7 hours since I ate it and I’m still not hungry. Not sure if I would get it again but I’m glad I tried it. The sausage gravy was delicious and I bet the biscuits and gravy are very good. I had the peanut butter chocolate pie after and it was the best part of my meal. I’m still thinking about it. Probably will be for the next few days. Looking forward to coming back to Penny Ann’s!

Everything Ive ordered here has been super tasty, don’t have to wait long for food(but maybe long time for a table if you’re attempting weekend brunch). I also left my credit card by accident and they held onto it and I got it back without anyone trying to make charges with it(hey, its happened before at a bar).

Huge portions of good quality food. They have unique breakfast potatoes that are almost like thick-cut potato chips. My egg-white omelet was divine. My husbands breakfast burrito was massive and left him more than satisfied. The restaurant was clean and cozy. Everyone who worked there that we interacted with was friendly. Great prices! I would love to try the Salt Lake location!

Good food, friendly service. Yes the pancake are great. A lot of items on the menu are good. Philly cheese steak is no longer on the menu. Parking is sparse and so is the dining area. But they do have outdoor seating. If you sit at the«bar» that only had four seats, you may occasionally catch a cook watching you eat. Plus you can overhear the service gossip. Oh and they close at 3pm, new location bin Taylorsville, where café rio used to be by leatherbys.

Value, yo– I’m sayin’. If you gots fam to feed, or if you an’ the homies is just fuelin’ up for a day of skating, then get at this joint. Moderate prices for all meals, and the portions is just out of control. I wouldn’t call this spot one-for-the-foodies, an’ that ain’t to take nothin’ away from ‘em. Had a real interesting conversation with my boy ’bout it over some omelettes– basically, we came to the conclusion that this spot is more like a business than a foodie destination, if that makes sense. I mean, the staff is straight hustlin’; they puttin’ out work(expeshully Cindy, rockin’ that slammin’ necklace). But the place is in a strip mall– again, not a negative, just a statement of fact. If you respond, «So?» then this place is the jump off. If you’s like, «Oh,» then you probably like me an’ lookin’ for a little more than a bargain and big portions. I just mean they ain’t no ambience/scene/mood present– IF that’s what you lookin’ for. The place was packed with a 45 minute wait and they be boastin’ a strong Unilocal rating, so they on they game. The food tastes how is should, ‘cept that coffee. That’s how we be startin’ the day, so that instant don’t cut it. I like checkin’ out the scene, though, particularly when I’m visitin’ a new city. These folks is rad an’ I cannot overstate how far your dollar goes here. Big ups.

Another place recommended by friends to check out while in SLC. Just keep in mind that their will probably be a wait. I’m a big fan of breakfast burritos so I had to try theirs. I’m not a fan of wet items on/near my sandwiches or bread types. I thought I would try their breakfast burrito as is minus the onions, two eggs* scrambled with tomato, onions, green peppers, potatoes AND your choice of Bacon, Ham OR Sausage. All rolled up in a flour tortilla w/cheddar cheese. The tomatoes def added a different taste to the burrito that I wasn’t satisfied with. Pico de galo would’ve helped this burrito out IMO. Not the best breakfast burrito I’ve had. Penny’s a small little café w/café style dining & food. So if you like quaint lil 50s cafes, Penny’s is worth checking out.

Our first visit here, was in the winter, and they were BUSY! People were waiting outside in the cold to get it, and boy is it worth it. Pancakes, NOM. Service, quick and friendly. Atmosphere, old 50s diner style, LOVE! We got extremely lucky and got a rare parking spot right out front, and that meant we got to sit in the warm car while we waited to be buzzed in for food. I suggest going and eating some wonderful food. Worth the wait!

Over-crowded breakfast joint whose hype doesn’t match food quality. I like PAC as a concept. Unassuming, family-run, divey feel, limited hours /menu… But after waiting 40 minutes in an apartment complex hallway to dine, I was hoping for much more. Food is fine. Denny’s fine. I ate the«heavenly hotcakes,» and got as much from the experience as an atheist chowing on a communian wafer(mixed metaphor here but I think you get it.) Eggs were fine. Coffee servicable. Bacon was bacon. It’s probably just me. I seem to have an insensitivity to that certain brand of mediocre charm present in mom n’ pop breakfast joints. Alas, I’d much rather sit down at the OPH for a slighly higher price point.

I’m not a pancake person, but Penny Ann’s Heavenly Hot Cakes have changed everything. This place ain’t about fancy foods; it’s about hearty breakfast foods eaten very closely to the other customers. I’ve eaten a few meals from the lunch menu and they were okay, but the breakfast keeps me coming back for more! This place is always busy and you will have to wait during normal breakfast hours, but it’s always worth it. My go-to breakfast is the Cal omelette served with the potatoes and Heavenly Hot Cakes. All portions are generous and I always go home with leftovers. Pancakes always upset my stomach, so I try to avoid them but I make the sacrifice for the Heavenly Hot Cakes because they are just that good! They are airy, not too sweet, and come in a large portion. I tried the PAC Benedict at my last visit and HOLYSMOKES they were awesome! The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise sauce was luxuriously thick, and the dish comes with both bacon AND ham. The service is great and the atmosphere is fun. I always enjoy having breakfast here. Don’t forget to check in to get 20% off your meal!

Good value… friendly service… and a guarantee you won’t leave hungry. Most items are high calorie but they have a healthy option in their rolled oats.

Oh Penny, I have a slice of your banana cream pie waiting in the fridge patiently for me to get hungry again. It may be a while. I just pounded down your corned beef hash only an hour ago and I am stuffed. It came with two eggs(I chose over easy of course) and the most beautiful and perfectly toasted marbled rye bread. It was so good and I couldn’t stop there. I had trouble keeping my fork from digging into my dining companions heavenly hotcakes too. They were light, fluffy and a touch tangy from the sour cream you use in them. I must admit I was skeptical when I received the plate of hash. It was finely chopped, very uniform, and had no crispy crust. Almost the consistency of being pre-chewed. There were no discernible vegetables or spices in the hash. It looked mostly to be potatoes and corned beef. But I will tell you what… It was really tasty. So don’t expect it to be like your typical hash you have had before. Penny, your food is an American classic found in a timeless no frills diner. The portions are hefty. Your selection of homemade pies is outrageously amazing. Decisions, decisions! I couldn’t leave without ordering a slice of banana cream to go. You won’t find any pork belly or other trendy gourmet items on this menu, just the basics. Combine all that with a 20% coupon for checking in on Unilocal and you have a five star winner right there.
