First time and last time at this place. Basically the worst burger I have ever had– dry, stale bun, and the fries were cold. Not worth my money or my evening.

For whatever reason, I never eat here. After today I plan on changing that. The club I got was perfect, and the BLT my wife got had so much bacon that I had to finish it for her. Cheese fries were hot and loaded, and they even make vanilla coke. They’re open Sunday contrary to what Unilocal says.

I walked in and immediately got confused on whether or not I should wait to be seated or to just sit down. After 2 awkward minutes I sat down and looked over a menu. After another 5 minutes of looking around wondering where the waitress was I came to the conclusion you needed to walk to the very back of the restaurant to order?! Worst design I’ve ever encountered. Very inefficient! I ordered my burger to go and they tell me to sit down, they will ring my table when it’s ready. Okay, I said confused since they didn’t give me a buzzer. Sat down and waited 10 minutes until they called my order over the loud speaker cause they didn’t know what table I was at… it was a mess. I get my bacon guacamole burger which turned out to be 7.25 for a single dry patty that resembled beef jerky more so then a burger. 1st and last time eating there. Inefficient and unorganized is how I would describe my experience

Training table just isn’t as good as it used to be. Still a nice quick meal but definitely nothing special. I will give it to them for there cheese fries though.

First time I’ve been there after the remodel and while it looks nice, we’re talking lipstick on a pig here. They dumped the ratty booths and got some nice-ish wall graphics, meanwhile the phone is now more static-y than ever, barely enough to have a conversation. Had I not been craving cheese fries and not in a position to hit one of the brewpubs, I wouldn’t have chosen this. Their decline from my last review is remarkable. My wife ordered a veggie pattie and they evidently devised this by stuffing literally an entire can of Veg-All into a patty with some binders and called it good. It was, however, anything but good. What it wasn’t was edible. She also got burnt onion rings, but no sympathy here, as onions, of course, should be banned entirely. As to my side, my wife got to enjoy marveling at the mayo coating most of the outside of my bottom half of the bun, as well as the grease pool at the bottom of my plate. This was easily the very worst pastrami sandwich I’ve had, with the pastrami more like shaved dried beef than anything else and the burger epitomizing the word«woeful». As to those fries I wanted so badly, if you stacked a bunch of fries, then dumped about ¼″ cup of cheddar on them, you’d about have it. These used to be a really great item, but now. more cheese on the wax paper underneath than on the actual fries and not a bunch of that either… just pitiful. They were the one thing that was cooked acceptably. They also had Coke Zero on tap, but the mix isn’t too wonderful… Execution was gone and mostly because the staff was entirely, as far as I could see, teens. I’m sure your teen, if you have one, is different, but the tendency is to be inexperienced foul-ups. These were gamely trying enough but barely hit inept, especially the one in the kitchen. It’s shameful and inexcusable. My wife made the comment that they were trying to target people who don’t like food, which is sort of nonsensical, but what she meant was they want the lowest common denominator, non-discriminating type. If you’re that kind of person, you will probably enjoy it. If you have actual standards, though, best to avoid.

I have to give these guys full stars, I met my wife here! seriously, back in ’04 when I was in high school I walked in to get a burger and the beautiful Latina behind the counter wouldn’t give me the time of day so I quit my job and got one here and the rest is history!(True Story)) That aside training table rally is a great restaurant, and I can speak to both sides as a customer and an employee, they use the best locally sourced ingredients, and make all of their sauces fresh every day. One of my biggest regrets in life was forgetting the recipe to the hickory and ranch dressing sauces. I am glad they finally put a bit of money into a LOOOOONG overdue remodel, even as employees we were always ashamed of how outdated and ugly it was in there, now they look pretty good, but could still use a bit livening up, they did add a few TV’s but I think they could jump into the sports bar niche by throwing in a few more. They should also seriously consider rewiring all of their phones and getting a clearer system because half of them still don’t work from when I was there a decade ago, and the rest are super distorted. My hands down favorite thing, and I honestly cant remember ever getting anything else since I worked there is the Bleu Bacon Burger. It is amazing, so delicious and I love that they use a light bleu cheese, I honestly don’t care for bleu bacon burgers anywhere else cause the bleu is too strong. They also(in case you didn’t know) deep fry their bacon, which gives it the signature crispy curly goodness. It is also fried in a separate small fryer in bacon grease, so it just gets more bacon’y as its cooking than it would if it was put in the large fryer with everything else. As an ex-employee I can speak to their cleanliness and care as well, the kitchen(which is well within view) is kept very clean, and again they use the highest quality fresh ingredients(at least this was all true a decade ago, and still seems to be true today from what I have seen) We even had a tedious process of wrapping the char boiler and other kitchen areas in a thick sort of tin foil every night after taking off the previous days so that it is like having a brand new broiler every day, we actually would have contests as employees as to who was the best at it or could get the cleanest look without creases or wrinkles!(good times) And we would change out or grease 2 times more often than what was required by food safety standards which I think was twice per week, but it has been a long time. I have to say that Training Table is probably most consistently my favorite place to go, just because I really like everything about eating there, it is simple and delicious, and don’t even get me started on the glorious cheese fries! I think that in the last 11 years since I have worked there I have gone probably 15 – 30 or so times per year, and I can say that of those times I have only had maybe 2 or 3 visits I was not too happy with the food. My only complaint that I have now is that their cheese fries have gotten ridiculously small, like if you order a small cheese fry it is about enough food for a small mouse, the plate is literally cute its so small and dainty. We used to load the things up, the small fry used to always be enough to share between 2 hungry people(with burgers too) and the medium was plenty for a group of 4 to share while the large was just ridiculous. If you haven’t tried Training table, shame on you! how can you call yourself a utahn? haha, but I would recommend giving them a try if you have not, they make a mean char broiled burger, and have just about endless options to top it off. They also have a delicious fish sandwich, amazing griddled turkey /ham sandwiches, and even some really good salads and soups.

I give it 5 stars due to one of the young men working there named Gavino, what I nice young man he is! He was so thoughtful and caring of the customer! He truly understood what it meant to be waited on. I know this business is based off of ordering from a phone but he constantly checked on us and always made sure we were happy. He is the reason my family and I will return! Him and the food were absolutely wonderful! :)

The burgers are good and the service is pretty cool ordering with the table side phones. Their buns are not my favorite but overall a good experience.

We have passed by The Training Table for several years now and never stopped in until we read some reviews on Unilocal recently. We very much enjoyed it! The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. We got the garlic burger, hot ham and cheese, chicken fingers and fries with a brownie shake, it was all very tasty. Using the phone to place your order and it ringing once when your order is ready makes it easy and fun. It has also been redecorated and looks great and was really clean. We also love that they are an equal opportunity employer. Kudos!

I went here a couple weeks ago and didn’t like it. The bench seats were falling off and the floors were disgusting. The food was just ok and shakes were less than ok. I wouldn’t go again

I got a hickory burger, the gf got a jalapeño burger with added guacamole. First, the burger pattie was small and was a half inch inwards all around, from the edge of the bun, super thin too(think Wendy’s but even smaller). There was wayyyyyy too much sauce, had I silverware, I would of scraped it off. The guacamole the gf got, was a crappie spread as well, seemed out of a can. No where near the quality of a spread you’d get somewhere like Jimmy Johns. Honestly, it should be slices of avacado. The French fries were dry and sub quality and I ended up leaving half of them on the plate. If you’re looking for a good burger, quality ingredients and a much better price, check The Habit, or Smash Burger, both close by in Sugarhouse, less than a mile a away. P. S. The kids going around asking people if they want water I am sure are doing their jobs, but my advice, have them ask patrons if they’ve ordered before. Like us and another table, we asked him to bring a drink other than a water, which we were declined. The question could of been avoided if properly greeted. Thanks! –Alex

Training Table has been turning consistently tasty burgers for decades. Only located in Utah, they are best known for their cheese fries and special dipping sauce, not to be confused with fry sauce. Sadly, this small franchise is slowly being shut out by other west coast burger joints that have recently made their debut in our great state. I won’t name names, but hopefully this is a passing phase and Training Table comes out on top. They recently remodeled this location(long overdue!) and personalized the service with bussers periodically checking on you during your meal. They also added big screen TVs so you can catch the latest Jazz or Utes game while you eat. And how fun is it to order from a phone? It never gets old! Let’s talk about the food though! Over 30 burgers and sandwiches to choose from. Wrap your head around that. Salads, soups, sodas and shakes. And I’ll say it again, cheese fries and special dipping sauce! Nothing like it. Food is consistently cooked to perfection and everything is made fresh to order. No heat lamps here. So come on already, show this beloved local spot your support next time you’re hankering for a hamburger!

Love the training table! Their clam chowder is pretty good, and their mushroom burger is my favorite. What makes the cheese fries so good is their fry sauce.

Definitely a YES! So cheap, cool ordering service with the phone, very friendly staff. Even when packed, this place wasn’t too loud since the kids all stay at the tables they’re at. The food was GREAT, and lots of meal for the price. Will definitely check out this«Utah original» next time I’m back!

Today was THE best experience I’ve had at a Training Table in YEARS. I haven’t been for a while, and the last time I came I said«if only they would do a few things to update their décor». Fast forward a year or so, and bam, the décor is updated, and looks great. The service was fantastic! They brought me water while I was waiting, the girl on the other end of the line was kind, and the food was amazing! They even went around and made sure everyone was satisfied. I’ll definitely be frequenting this location more often. Keep it up Training Table!

Two stars is being generous. They got our food completely wrong. A bacon mushroom burger with out bacon? Wtf? And then the bacon was so over cooked it was not edible. Same with the fries. Hard as a rock. My dad specifically asked for no tomatoes and lo and behold two tomatoes unwantedly sat. Like most of my childhood memories, this one ended like a dud. Dafuq man?

I like that they have spruced the place up, it looks better, but still room for improvement. On the last visit we had to hunt around for a place to sit because nearly every other table hadn’t been cleaned up yet. When we ordered the phone looked like it had not been cleaned in a week. What seemed like forever our phone final rang, indicating our order was ready. As we got up to pay and pick up the order it wasn’t ready yet… why did you ring my table? The meal was just ok. The hamburger patty was dry and the dipping sauce seems to get smaller and smaller with every visit.

I am indeed a fan! During my last visit, I was pleased to see a whole new look for the restaurant — a brighter, cleaner, more modern décor. The decorative sports theme has remained, which has always been part of this place’s charm. I like that the table side phone call method of ordering has survived as the main means of communication with the restaurant staff, although staff members are quite attentive. This phone will most likely trigger a lifelong customer’s nostalgia, bringing back childhood memories of either arguing over who got to order over the phone, or how hard it was to keep a straight face while ordering. I had The Westerner: stacked a little bit too high for comfortable consumption, but that’s better than an empty burger! The hickory BBQ sauce on it was quite good as well, and the subsequent dripping mess made me feel as though I was finally starring in a Carl’s Jr. ad! This was a truly satisfying burger that I could not finish. The small order of cheese fries was generously piled high, and would pass for a large order at another establishment, although on that particular day, there could have been more cheese on them. Don’t be shy with the cheese! To round out this holy Training Table Trinity, you must have The Ultimate Dipping Sauce. It is absolutely required and the delicious hickory flavor will spoil you for all other fry sauces. It is worth every cent. P. S. free refills on drinks!

The Training Table has been a burger joint in the heart of Sugarhouse for a long time. It’s always been a family favorite growing up in my household and many others I’m sure. It went under a renovation lately and it’s looking better then ever. The service has been upgraded a notch with employees that actually walk around and greet you or get you water. The phone tradition is still in tact and something that I adore about this place. The Training Table has stepped up its game with the new upgrades. Their cheese fries and dipping sauce are still the best out there and they have introduced sweet potato cheese fries which are better than I thought. If you want a good casual dining night out this is the place to go!

Training Table isn’t the place to go for a world-class dining experience. But it IS an experience, let me tell you that. Not everywhere can you use the phone conveniently hooked into your booth to order your food. It’s an interesting little way to make customers feel like they’re in an old-school, retro dining establishment, which, before this place was remade, was exactly what it felt like. The food is pretty good. The burgers are always tasty, the onion rings are excellent. Fries are great too. It’s really a Utah classic and one that I always look forward to when I visit. Now, to dream about those onion rings…
