Waitress sold us on the fettuccini«real Italian style» «not the thick American style» and a small vegetarian pizza. The pizza came out with so much watery sauce the dough was soggy the minute you pick up a slice alllll the toppings slid off into a pile on your plate or on the platter. Fettuccine was watery no flavor, it looked grey very ugly presentation all plopped on a round plate and overly seasoned with oregano and other weird spices. For the price of all this and the taste I was very unimpressed and the left overs were not worth taking. Best thing there was the little salad appetizer and the ranch dressing which they make in house. Would I come back? Nope, there was nothing impressive to come back for. Service was good hence the extra star.

Came in for a late night bite to quench the tomato sauce craving. It’s a homely looking spot which I expected. The server was extra nice but other workers were loud and obnoxious; killed the mood. Food came out quickly but unfortunately it was frozen food microwave quality. Wine went down smooth but it was nothing more than red alcohol water for too high a price. Spot wasn’t the best nor the worst not sure if I’d ever come back.

At the suggestion of my best friend, we went out to eat here; I’d never been, but he raced about the food at another SA Capparelli’s location on the east side of town. The food at this location in the Medical Center, though just basic Italian staples, was delicious. Even better, the portions were ENORMOUS for the price. I got the chicken Parmesan sandwich(which was more than enough for two full meals) and my friend got chicken Parmesan with pasta; both were filling and tasted as expected. The staff is friendly and the dining atmosphere feels like a homey mom & pop business.

Love this place! Manager is awesome and we’ve yet to have something we didn’t enjoy. The salad is great.

I have eaten here(not this location) since I was 8 yrs old and Capparelli’s was a hole in the wall restaurant at Loop 410& Nachdoges. In the past 39 years the food has not change, still the most fanatic in San Antonio. I have introduce my wife and kids to this fine pizza and over the years they agree and most recently my son in law and he loved it. Can’t wait till my Grandson is old enough to eat this.

I have eaten here 3 times in the past 2 months. The food here is pretty standard, old school heavy Italian fare. I thought everything that I ate was tasty, but don’t plan on eating light unless you order a salad. The pizza we ordered was a small(on our server’s good advice, who, by the way, was the best server we had in our 3 trips) and weighed a ton! It was yummy but with loads and loads of cheese, and somewhat greasy. I could only eat one piece but we took the rest home and enjoyed it later. The salad that we ordered had amazing salad dressing and lots of fresh cheese as well, but could have used a few more tomatoes(only came with 1 tiny slice of a Roma-sized tomato.) The second time I went, the food was also good but the service was HORRIBLE! Our server was more concerned about keeping the Fiesta sombrero balanced on her head than doing her job. She was painfully slow, trying to work with the sombrero on her head, and inattentive. We wanted a to go box, and asked her for one, but never saw her again.(At least, not at our table.) She even saw us at the register checking out, and didn’t remember we had asked for a box about 20 minutes before! Someone else checked us out, but by that time, the busser was already clearing our table of our leftovers so it was too late. The third time we went, a couple was playing guitar and singing, which would have been okay if the volume were a little lower. We went for dinner, not a concert, and had trouble even hearing each other to have a conversation. Also, that server didn’t seem very competent, and overcharged us when she brought our bill. I don’t know why she thought the cheese ravioli was $ 14, but she seemed to. NOTE: if you want a salad with your meal and expect something besides lettuce, dressing and a miniscule slice of tomato, be sure to check the menu carefully. The have about 4 or 5 different options for a side salad, that vary fairly significantly in price, depending on if you want cheese or olives. They seemed over priced to me. I agree with one person in 2012 who commented this place would make a great candidate for Restaurant Impossible, as it really seems worth saving to me.

Meh… Giving this spot just above an average rating – I just don’t like the sweetness of the tomato sauce or the thicker crust – I prefer a New York style pizza. It is nice that they opened a true neighborhood spot in the middle of these upper middle class residential developments.

The food was delicious, but didn’t appreciate the price gouging on Valentine’s, because of that not sure I’ll ever be back. The 40% increase because of the holiday is just not cool.

Always have great service and excellent homemade food. Definitely recommend spaghetti with meat sauce! Homemade describes the amazing flavor of the sauce and meatballs.

I love their pastas and salads, I think pizzas the serve are a limitless to greasy and smothered in cheese(but hey some people are into that) over all though I nice dinning experience, with fast and friendly service!

stopped in to escape traffic and eat a quick lunch. service was good, we were tended to right away. wife ordered the Italian sandwich, which turned out to be huge, and i had spaghetti and meatball, which was also a good size portion. food was OK not anything to flavorful though. i didn’t try any of wifeys sandwich but i will say that it looked delicious. price wasnt to bad either, considering the amount of food we got. atmosphere was a little dull except that the owner kept yelling at, im guessing, a son or grandson. which was funny for a little bit but started getting a little annoying. Everyone was very nice tho, the bread and salad were amazing, and we left full which is always a good thing.

Three stars, but really 3.5! Capparelli’s was a surprising treat that my girlfriend introduced me to. It is definitely an old SA classic and it shows through the dated décor and interior; however, I was extremely satisfied with the food. We ordered a small chefs salad that came with tomatoes, lettuce, olives, ham, and pepperoni, and the dressing resembled the one used at Olive Garden, but slightly better. We also ordered a large pepperoni sandwich smothered in a light marinara sauce and covered with melted mozzarella. It was delicious and the serving was quite generous. The service was only acceptable. Our server was a bit too eager to take our order, and we did not see her again after she brought out our food. I hope to return soon, and if service improves and the food is still spot on, I will bump my rating to 4 stars!

Although I am not a fan of the Italian grape décor anymore, the food was pretty good. My date enjoyed the lasagna and it was better than my chicken parmesan. Their house salad along with the oil and vinegar dressing was just delicious and by far my favorite. The garlic bread has lots of butter and is crispy yet soft. I will be going back to try their pizza and cannoli.

The food was nothing spectacular, but then again it wasn’t stuff that you would find in the frozen section of HEB, either. Most of the 3-stars come directly from the excellent waitress and exceptional service she provided. We went for lunch on a Monday, and there were about 3 tables occupied. The waitress was very attentive, very accomodating, and extremely down to earth and friendly. I liked how she greeted everyone with a «hi there babe» and was really just on top of everything without ever skipping a beat. The bread was actually really tasty. The ends were nicely toasted and it wasn’t soggy or over-buttered. The salad appetizer could have used a few olives, or a banana pepper, something other than just lettuce and a small tomato piece, but nonetheless the dressing was pretty good. My «Grandma Capparelli’s» lasagna tasted like… dare I say it… it tasted like it was adorned with sauce from out of a can! The sausage however, was delicious and had just the right amount of spice. The dish could have been more cheesy, though, in my opinion. I thought the piece was kind of small at first, but it ended up being the perfect amount of food. My lunch partner’s spaghetti with garlic butter sauce was OK, I just couldn’t help but think that the spaghetti noodles were from the day before. He liked the garlic butter sauce, but mentioned that it wasn’t the best he’s ever had, but definitely not the worst. I suppose the lunch special prices are pretty reasonable, and the portions seemed just right. I would probably come to Cappi’s for lunch again, but I’ll most definitely try something else next time. Their sweet tea is pretty tasty, I’m still sipping on mine right now at work :)

Boyfriend and I ate lunch here today, surprised to see that they were open on labor day! As other reviews have said, the décor is quite dated but still nice. We sat at a table under the grapevine-covered arbor, to the far right side of the dining room, and didn’t have any of the noise issues mentioned elsewhere. After perusing the menu, we noticed a sticker claiming«best pizza in SA» and had to accept that challenge. We placed our order for the 16″ pepperoni and mushroom. As the menu states, it’s about a 20 – 30 min wait for them to make the pizza fresh. I didn’t mind the time, but I will say upfront that the best in SA claim is a little steep. That being said, it was pretty damn delicious. Pie arrived covered in cheese, and bigger than I’d expected. Two slices was about good for me, but managed a third small one only because we hadn’t eaten all day(and after that, I didn’t plan on eating again for the day, either). Pizza quality comes down to three things: crust, sauce, and toppings, which primarily includes cheese. The crust was a good middle area between thin crust and a hand tossed/thicker pan. Could be much better with a sprinkle of some sort of garlic herb seasoning. The sauce was pretty damn amazing though: thick and intensely flavorful, heavy on the fresh tomato taste, not too acidic. cheese, as I said, was plentiful, and very obviously fresh as well. Could have benefitted from more mushrooms though. Menu had a lot of good lunch specials on it, so expect an update when we go back for the meatballs in a boat, chicken parm sandwich, and house salads… I’m intrigued by the claims about their salad dressing being among the best, as well.

This used to be an Italian food staple on the Northwest side, but over the past 5 years, the food quality has dramatically fallen off a cliff. The décor, although cute-sy, is tired and outdated. This place would be an excellent candidate for Restaurant: Impossible. However, if you’re looking for a cheesy lounge-singer, come on Friday nights… the guy is hilarious.

Homemade and traditional Italian food with the classic dishes. I played it safe and ordered the the lasagna. It was a large piece and was satisfying although I prefer my lasagna to ooze with mozzarella cheese. I also got try the Fettuccine Alfredo and Submarine sandwich. Again, both dishes were fulfilling, but nothing spectacular with the flavors. I thought the sandwich was a dry, especially with the giant piece of bread. Lasagna — 3⁄5 Fettuccine Alfredo — 3.5÷5 Submarine — 2⁄5 I would have liked the restaurant to push the envelope a little more with the the flavors and ingredients. I thought it was very standard and average dishes. I thought the portions were reasonable for the price being charged. As for the service, it was great — especially for a Friday night. I plan to visit again to try one of their pizzas and maybe the eggplant parmesan, so be on a lookout for a review update.
