I can’t comment on the tacos much, because I didn’t eat them. But they did look delicious. However, we live in the area and frequently pass this place and it usually has a long line. When I went by, I was the 2nd car in line and when I got up to the window, instead of the guy acknowledging me and being friendly, he didn’t say a word to me, took my order and closed his little glass window. When we gave me the food and total, I gave him $ 5 and told him to keep the change as tip and his attitude completed changed, including calling me sweetie and giving me a wink. I won’t be rushing back here anytime soon.

Disappointing for the price. The tacos tasted ok but in this town with so many choices just down the road I expected more for the higher price tag. The pastor tacos were good but I felt they didn’t put enough inside the tortillas. The brisket and egg tacos were a bit dry and lacked flavor.

I was BLATANTLYIGNORED by someone working here, one early morning when I stopped by for tacos. The guy was inside, the open sign was on, and he HADTO have heard me– I honked several times. He was 5 feet away– But instead, he ignored me.

POORCUSTOMERSERVICE from the abrasive guy at the window… It has been almost a year since the last time we’ve visited what used to be our«go-to» drive-thru for morning tacos. Passing by over the past 2 months, we’ve noticed severe inconsistencies with their hours of operation. Some days they’re open in the evening, when they normally were only open during breakfast/lunch hours. Some days it can be right in the middle of lunch hour on a weekday, and they’re closed. Very inconvenient to have to guess when they may or may not be open. Back to the poor customer service… there was once a time when the nicest most sweetest gentleman used to be the cashier/order assembler at Taco Island. He would always remember our order, and would always remember the color of salsa we wanted(green) and would always be pleasant, with a smile on his face. Those days are over. This not-so-gentle-man at the window(who I have a suspicion is the owner) needs to leave the customer service job to someone who is actually customer service oriented. Just like most taco places, Taco Island offered discounted breakfast tacos before a certain time. Come to find out, they don’t do that anymore(the expression on the guys face when I asked was like one he would have if an alien drove up to his window) but it’s the way he responded that made me annoyed… «Tink-A-Tako has something like that.» Well newsflash buddy, I wasn’t AT Tink-A-Tako, I was in YOUR drive-thru window so why on earth would you defer me to a completely different restaurant??? Not to mention I cannot STAND the crappy service at the Tink-A-Tako on Babcock. Do you think the people over at Five Guys just tell customers to «go to In-n-Out» instead??? No!!! Secondly, they’ve always been infamous for running out of carne guisada well before 8am. On this particular morning, he was out of potato and egg at 10am!!! When we asked«what DO you have?» he took up a defensive tone(actually, his tone was pretty defensive from the moment he opened the window) and stated«well what do you mean what do we have, we have everything EXCEPT for potato and egg!» At that point, I was pretty pissed so I just drove off, never to return again. There are way too many Tex-Mex places in SA for me to put up with your poor attitude, so shape up or ship out because it already seems like your business is barely hanging on by a thread as it is!

I tried going here to have a specialty taco but they were out of carne guisada at 630am… Had the basic tacos: bean and cheese, potato and egg, bacon and egg. Was not blown away. Just your average breakfast taco. Kind of disappointed.

Had tacos al pastor. They were good. The green salsa is super hot, wish it had more tomatillo tang and a little less heat, but all in all the tacos were good. The Cook was very nice as well.

I HATE that I have to leave this update but I think it’s important. Taco Island has been VERY inconsistent lately with their hours. There have been several times I have checked Unilocal to see the restaurant listed as open, only to leave my house and discover it’s really closed. The latest incident was today July 7th at 1:20pm. Previous times the building was lit up as if it was open but the windows were totally shuttered and no cars were there. Does anyone know what’s going on with this place? I’m willing to go there one more time for food but if I drive by when Unilocal says they’re open, only to see them closed, they will have lost me as a customer. And yes, I have even called the restaurant… no one ever answers the phone and it eventually goes to voicemail.

Went around 10:30 am for some breakfast tacos, and oh man was it delicious. Tried the migas and the chorizo & egg. Both were generous portions and piping hot. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and they even offered a slice of bacon to my dog. They said they give all pups who visit a slice of bacon. I think our total was around $ 12 plus a tip for 4 tacos, so not bad prices either! We will definitely be coming back.

3 words to start this review… STOREBOUGHTTORTILLAS! Enough said. I despise places that use store bought tortillas. I went twice trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but, nope, both times I got the fake tortillas. It doesn’t matter how good the food or salsa is, fake tortillas screw that up real quick. Sorry.

Tried this place for the first time today. We ordered two bean and cheese, brisket, and asada especial. We eye not disappointed! The asada taco had chorizo and white cheese and was delicious. I dont think I can eat an asada taco without chorizo ever again. Definitely worth a try!

They have dinner now and also have delicious homemade Horchata. The cook Christina? is super nice and the enchiladas were super good! I highly recommend this place. The dinner is like a «full» dinner and not just tacos.

Terrible Disgusting Food, DONOT come to this place. The food that I ordered was all greasy and it tasted like they havent cleaned the grill in a long time. This is not real mexican food and you must avoid this place.

I just discovered this place this weekend. My brother who was visiting from out of state found and recommended it. I went the next day and validated why. The person taking my order(perhaps the owner) was genuinely friendly and helpful. You could also tell that he takes a lot of pride in what he does. My three kids and I all loved the tacos and will be going back often now. In fact, this is now our taco place of choice. I can’t wait to try the brisket taco he described to me my first morning there and the pork taco made from a lean and thick pork chop he showed me. In a city filled with great tacos, you’ve got to try this hidden gem.

I passed by this place about a million times before finally deciding to try it. To be fair, it doesn’t look like it would be good. In fact, it looks super shady, it’s basically a tiny shack that is situated between a drive-through Wells Fargo ATM and a pawn shop. We decided to try it on a whim and we were not disappointed! The special beef fajita taco was delicious! The taco was stuffed with meat, not just a few wimpy pieces like some places give you, as well as avocado, lettuce, tomato and fresh jalapeño slices for a little kick. The tortilla tasted like butter, so delicious!

I looove me some Taco Island #3!!! 3 things I love about this place — the food — the service — the quickness. The food: consistently good. I have bought tacos for at least 4 different co-workers(one of them being my boss for purposes of bribery!) and they all have nothing but good things to say about this place. Their asada is always fresh and tasty while their carne guisada is always meaty, flavorful, and doesn’t have any gross pieces of fat in it. They have these little mini quesadillas, which are fried corn tortillas stuffed with cheese and pico de gallo. Sooo good! I once ordered a brisket taco and was very surprised to see that the taco was STUFFED with nothing but beautiful, lean pieces of brisket. And last but definitely not least, their breakfast tacos are amazingly good! They come overflowing with so much delicious egg that it feels like you are having 2 tacos in 1. Breakfast tacos I’ve tried include bacon and egg, potato and egg, country and egg, bean & cheese, and chorizo and egg. The chorizo and egg one is definitely my FAVE for breakfast because their chorizo is not all greasy and has a good sausage-y flavor. YUM! The service — we go so often that the cashier has started getting to know us :) Both gentlemen who work in there are very courteous and friendly and I always receive service with a smile. I have never gotten sick off of their food so it’s apparent that cleanliness is important to them, which is very good. Feel free to call ahead and your order will be waiting for you when you get there. In case someone is parked at the window, they have a convenient walk-up window on the other side of the building. The speaker at the menu doesn’t work all that well, so they have no problem with you simply pulling up to the window to order. One thing that I wish I could change are the menus — although half of the menu is hand-written, it still gets the job done. Call 210−836−7745 to place your order ahead. Their hours are Monday-Saturday from 6am-2pm. And finally, the quickness — this location is ideal for everyone in the medical center area because it is situated right on the corner of Babcock and Huebner in a bustling shopping strip. Even when I place my order there at the restaurant itself, my tacos always come out in less than 3 or 4 minutes and when I call ahead, they’re ready to go the moment I get there. I really can’t think of any other drive-thru taco shop in this area and even if there were, I would still give Taco Island #3 my business because of the consistent good experiences I have had there. Highly recommended!!!
