Someone told me this place gets incredibly busy near Christmas, and that I should order online and pick them up ASAP. So I placed an order on their website yesterday morning, and head over there to see if I can pick them up that evening. If not, no big deal — I work right around the corner anyway. I was the only customer in the store, but the woman behind the counter seemed harried and agitated from the start. First, she tells me that they«don’t do» online orders. Once I explain that their website accepted my order and charged my credit card, she asks if I have a receipt. I show her the emailed receipt on my phone, but she keeps saying that she needs«this one»(pointing to someone else’s printed receipt taped to the counter). We finally establish that by «this one» she means that I have to have a printed hard-copy of the receipt(that was issued to me from their own online ordering system)…because she«has to send it to Ms. Gonzalez», whoever that is. Let me pause here to note that their website also lets you order tamales for shipping by mail — do you think mail-order customers have to print their receipt and mail it to «Ms. Gonzalez» for whatever archaic reason? To be fair, the receipt does say that you have to print it out, and I failed to notice this. When she pointed that out, I gave up – rules are rules, after all(although…really…is this 1995?) But this woman was seriously annoyed that I was trying to buy tamales in(of all places!) her tamale shop, and that she was looking for ANY possible reason NOT to sell me 4 dozen of the things(which…I mean… it’s meat rolled in masa, not a safe deposit box in a Swiss bank). I guess I’ll go back and see if I can be found worthy of some tamales since I’m already out $ 40, but I seriously doubt I’ll be a repeat customer. I know this company has a good reputation, but… eh…I’m not sure any tamales are worth this runaround. I haven’t even tasted them yet, but I’ve already got a bad taste in my mouth from the DPS office-worthy customer service.

The tamales are fine although a little small but the woman who answers the phone and works the counter is terribly rude. She actually told us that we better not call her and tell her the tamales were raw(not jokingly either). We had called prior to get a total, since we bought over $ 200 worth of tamales to get a total and she said she was busy, to figure it out on our own.

This is the WORST establishment I’ve ever encountered. I wish there was an option to give zero stars because this place deserves zero recognition. Their customer service is a complete joke and they do not deserve your business. None of their employees, nor their manager, understand their policies and why they are in place. Do not waste your time here.

Always friendly employees behind the counter… I love coming here, the tamales taste good to me, even though I’ve never had homemade tamales, or do I know a lot about Mexican cuisine… But delicious tamales never fail me when i crave that taste. I’m glad they opened up a closer location to me.

Definitely not the best tamale’s I have tasted. Tamale was dry old and tasted freezer burned. For a dollar per tamale; I would recommend getting your dishes from elsewhere. I have heard much about this place, but just didn’t get the taste I had been expecting living in South Texas for the past 7 years.

This are the worst tamales super greasy and salty. I dont recomend this tamales at all. The pork tamales they say are the best seller, well they are terrible.

Not sure what the poor reviews on the quality of the tamales is about. We LOVE Delicious Tamales, and this location may be simple but the food is far from subpar. The woman who waited on me this afternoon was friendly and courteous, and the tamales I ate were just greasy enough to not be dry, full of flavor and well stuffed with deliciously seasoned pork. My neighbors are Nationals and they absolutely love this place also — in fact I picked up two dozen for them as a surprise and they were over the moon! Maybe the management of this location took the previous bad reviews to heart and made some changes, but my experience today during lunchtime was stellar!

ARETHEOWNERSOFDELICIOUSTAMALESIDIOTIC?! Husband and I go in, the tiny waiting area is packed with people. I ask other patrons how long they’ve been waiting and they say 2 hours. 2HOURSWITHONLY20ish people in the whole store. Why you ask? Well, there is LITERALLY one person filling and ringing up orders. Which goes back to my original question: are the owners of Delicious Tamales IDIOTIC? It’s the day before Christmas Eve – the BIGGESTANDBUSIESTTIMEOFALLYEAR for tamale intake and there is ONE person taking and ringing up orders. The answer is yes. Yes the owners of Delicious Tamales are IDIOTIC. If I could give Delicious Tamales a negative star it would give me so much JOY. NEVER going there again. NEVER giving them my business again. Do these people think a Tamale shop is a rarity in San Antonio or something?! No. A tamale shop in San Antonio is like a sushi place in Japan– A DIME A DOZEN. UH!

I parked(accidentally in the Thundercloud subs parking spot: D), opened the Delicious Tamales door, and asked«what do you recommend?» The unenthusiastic response i got was«the pork tamales are good». So… i got the pork and jalapeño pork tamales. Were they good… Eh, I’ve had better. The jalapeño pork tamales were filled with connective tissue and the meat was sparse. The regular pork tamales were swimming in grease. The big question is — will i go back? — probably not, unless i can’t find another tamale shop in town that can satisfy my tamale appetite.
