We have been here on a number of occasions over the last 18 mos. The food is okay, not the best, but not terrible. My biggest issue is and has always been the service. You seat yourself, but they are slow to acknowledge you. I haven’t been back after our last visit where we waited 10 mins without so much of a hello, a menu, nothing. All the while acknowledging people who came in after us. Just not worth it. We drive a little further for better food and service.

Great breakfast! Fast and cheap. I love coming here Saturday morning with my family. Food is always exactly how I order it and wait staff is pleasant. Very busy in Sunday’s after church so that’s a clear indication of how the food is.

I live across the street so I go often. The food is usually good but service can be spotty. Some days refills on drinks are consistent and others it’s a drought. The staff is very friendly but I’m not sure there is a manager so staff just does what they like it seems. As for the food, it’s good if you find something you like. They are very consistent so if you find a dish you like, stick with it. If you try something you don’t like, abandon it because it will always be the same. It is usually spanish speakers around you and the staff so I’m guessing the food is pretty authentic to Jalisco Mexico. The charro beans have great flavor but are too hot for this gringo. If you ask if a dish is spicy and the server says a little, it’s hot for the average Tex-mex eater. The plates are large and price is good for what you get. Also, if you’re looking for soup, only go Sunday. They don’t serve it other days and about half the time it needs to be sent back to be heated up. It’s good soup but often not hot enough. It ain’t fancy but worth a visit. I’m there at least once a week so I obviously like it. Give it a go but order the basics. If going for breakfast, tacos are big.

Great breakfast tacos with a great special! 3 of any one kind for $ 2.75 which worked out really well when I needed to purchase 200 for an event. Order was ready right on time for pick up Sunday morning. Friendly staff. Will need to try and dine in sometime. Hours were very accommodating any day of the week!

Our go-to-neighborhood hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint. We’ve never been disappointed with any of their tacos(breakfast or crispy), huevos rancheras, egg white & spinach omelettes, and our kids like their pancakes. Their received beans are tasty and the rice is decent. I didn’t care for their enchiladas though. Their coffee is good and we like their chips & salsa(served after 11AM). Sometimes their service really tanks and the food takes forever, but that’s only been about twice in the last 30 times we’ve come. They have a great deal on their breakfast tacos too, if you buy 3 of the same kind. We like their papa ranchera, lengua, and picadillo. Yum!

First of all, I like this place. It’s one of the only jaliscos open on Sundays, they serve breakfast all day and they have good mole. But the quality of the food is very inconsistent. I ordered two breakfast plates today. The chorizo and egg plate looked and tasted great. The chicharrones and egg plate. Not so good, it didn’t look like a complete serving and the eggs had a strange texture. One order of tortillas looked and tasted great the other order of tortillas was burnt. Charred. I want to love this place and give it all 5 stars but I also want to order a meal without wondering if I’m going to get the good version of the meal or the crappy version of the meal. Also, please season your breakfast potatoes. Even just some salt would be an improvement!

Food is good, but service is slow. We waited 30 minutes for 4 tacos(they were cold too), and this wasn’t the first time this happened. I asked for coffee 3 times and never received any. I don’t think I will be going back anymore.

Excellent breakfast tacos, hidden gem! We go here or breakfast tacos all the time. We have searched all over SA for the best tacos and these are some of the best. They also have good fajitas.

I love the food and the new remodeling. I’ve only ever gotten To-Go service but they’re always polite and attentive and have never gotten my order wrong once and I’ve been going there for 2 years. To me, that’s quite impressive

I have been here several times for lunch and had to look hard for a parking spot… Always a good sign. This is a great little spot for the north side of San Antonio because the food is good and the price is right. I went today for a late breakfast… Sunday morning and it appeared the rest of town had the same idea. My daughter and I snagged a table(seat yourself) and had a nice breakfast. Even though it was packed they still got out food out in a reasonable amount of time. I had the Barbacoa and Huevos Rancheros and was not disappointed. I’m still new to becoming a Barbacoa expert, but what I had was pretty darn good… And I don’t have to drive across San Antonio to get it. Breakfast plate, two breakfast tacos for my daughter, coffee, oj were under $ 14.00. Tuck this place away in your list for a no frills Mexican eatery. BTW — they recently refinished the interior and it really looks fresh.

Went yesterday & I regret going. The chips were stale & the salsa tasted old. Not even sure why they went up on their prices If the food isn’t even that great. $ 9 for a carne guisada plate & my carne guisada was red. Ive never seen red Carne Guisada before! Nothing but gravy and no meat. The lettuce that came on my plate was wet like they didn’t drain it properly. Rice tasted like burnt plastic. Lets just say the chef needs to tastes their own food before serving to its customers! Waiter was rude when we asked for more tea & he only filled our cups half way. Never coming back. Waste of the little bit of money I had!

This cute little hole-in-the-wall is magnificent! Extremely affordable and very much authentic Mexico. Loving me some papa con huevo tacos, just like mama used to make.

Let’s just say I probably won’t return. It’s not a terrible place, nor is the food that bad, but it’s also nothing to write home about. I called in around 10 a.m. on a Saturday to place an order for a few breakfast tacos. I could tell the place was packed, as I could hear the crowd over the phone. Anyway, I places the order and showed up 10 minutes later. Not only was the parking lot entirely full, but the tables were full inside, and there was a line to get to the register. Others were already waiting for their to-go order, so I let the lady know I was here to pick up my order, as well. She went ahead and rung me up, and I waited another 10 minutes or so to receive my order. Upon getting home, I realized that we had asked for six tacos, but only received three of the tiny containers of salsa. We actually had to drive elsewhere to pick up more salsa. I’d think that the cardinal rule of taco-packing was making sure there was enough salsa for each tacos, but apparently not here. The tacos, although not terrible, were not so good. The potatoes were mashed together with a small amount of cheese and an intense amount of black pepper. They had a weird after-taste and the reddish-brown salsa they give you was a little on the bitter side. I wasn’t a fan at all. As I said, this place was super packed, so I’m sure they’re doing something right. Plus, the tacos were around $ 1.50 each, so they’re also pretty cheap. I just don’t see myself coming back here.

After reading the reviews I had bookmarked this little gem, and it definitely lived up to the raves. I ordered the pastor mini tacos and they were outstanding. You know you’re in a great food joint when you walk in and almost all of the customers are of the same ethnicity as the food — El Jalisco apparently is the place to be!

El Jalisco is one of our family favorites. We’ve been here dozens of times, so this review is an average of all experiences. This is the real deal! Authentic Mexican food, hot, fresh, and tasty at low, low prices. None of that nasty Tex-Mex garbage here. Ambiance is typical Mexican dive with loud, obnoxious colors and TVs playing bad Latino shows. I’m here for the food, not the ambiance! This place is hopping at lunchtime and quiets down by 3 pm. Although they have no liquor license, they allow a BYOB policy(we haven’t tried that, yet). Everything on the menu is delicious. We have yet to find anything less than very good. Portions are generous. Food is always piping hot. Service is fast and efficient, though not overly friendly. Bill does not come to the table, so don’t expect it. Just waddle your happy butt to the counter and pay up. OVERALL: OUTSTANDING. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED. Will continue to frequent this place so long as the quality remains high.

I was starving this morning and craving breakfast tacos, so I opened the trusty Unilocal app on my phone and discovered I was only 1 block from here. After reading the reviews, I decided to stop in. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall and isn’t much to look at. As I have said before, though, I couldn’t care less what the restaurant looks like, as long as it is tasty. Inside, it looked like many a mexican food restaurants I have been in through my travels of Texas. BUT the smells had me hooked! I ordered a papas rancheras taco and a chorizo with beans, bacon and cheese. These were quickly whisked out to me and were HUGE! They were very tasty and the tortillas were delicious! The two tacos were the perfect amount for me. I really enjoyed them and look forward to lunch here later in the month. Beware the light green sauce… it burnt my tongue for a very long time!

I’ve had little to no luck finding an acceptable(read: authentic) taqueria in the Blanco area. I swear, the next person who says«Las Palapas has good tacos» is getting a fist in the face… I have needs to be met when it comes to tacos and El Jalisco Grill & Taqueria has met them all. El Jalisco is located in a little strip next to Sonic and opens at 7am on Sunday. Stopped by after an early morning HEB trip and ordered a few tacos to go. The interior is big and clean(with tv’s all set to novelas which was a good sign of authenticity). The good: fresh, flour-y tortillas, perfectly cooked chicharon and Mexican Cokes. The so-so: service was a bit slow, will probably call ahead next time. The ugly: chorizo and bean was crazy greasy. Finally found a great place to get my Sunday morning taco on but the true test will be their menudo. I’ll report back!
