I’ve been coming here on and off for the last five years and they have been consistently on point with their product. I had the Chilaquiles Plate which was the perfect amount of eggs, cheese and chips. Others in our group had the Huevos Rancheros, Barbacoa tacos and Carne Guisada plates. The service was great and you can’t beat the price

Though a recommendation from a friend, I went to Julio’s Café for the 1st time because according to my friend their Menudo was the best in town. And after reading all of the positiveness reviews about the service and the food I was anticipating tasting their Menudo. Upon entering the restaurant I was so disappointed. Not because it was a hole in the wall(Some hole in the wall are most of the time the best to eat at) but because they were practically empty and we had to stand there waiting at the door way for a few minutes wondering if we had to seat ourselves. Well apparently we did! Not that any one told us to seat ourselves, but because we gotten tired of waiting to see if they were even going to acknowledge us and guide us to our table. Needless to say we had the same response at the table too. No One came to asked if we needed any menus or anything !!! We had to finally flagged down the waitress whom seemed like she was bothered. When she finally brought us the menus I already know exactly what I was going to order … YUP !!! The Menudo, The LARGEMENUDO!!! As we placed our order we asked if they had(Like most Mexican Restaurants do) chips and salsa to pass the time while we waited for our food to be prepared, The waitress said yes they do and offer us a drink. Both my friend and I opted for some water, and sat there chatting and waiting for the chips and salsa to arrive. So after several minutes later we waited some more. But they never came :-(When our Menudo arrived a good 20 minutes later I asked about the chips and only then did the waitress let us know that they will not be coming because they ran out of chips. And would have to make some more(Thank for letting us know) Which was kinda confusing to me since it was still early in the day and remember the place was empty(no more then 2 family’s other then us) Then the Menudo finally came and I was even more disappointed, it had so much grease that the grease floated to the top and it had so much salt I couldn’t swallow it down, I ended up having to send it back and got a refund. And at no time did the waitress come and ask us to refill our water nor asked if there was anything else she could do for us … All in all the service sucked and the Menudo was the worst Menudo I had ever tasted!!! I will never go to this place again nor would I ever recommend it to anyone.

My grandparents are regulars at Julio’s. I have been a few times, and every time is a wonderful experience. I usually order the pork chops with the Mexican rice and refried beans. So good!!! But everything on the menu is so delicious. The service is excellent & the place is clean. On the weekends it’s going to be the most packed, but the waitresses try to get you seated right away. The service is so quick and the food comes out right away, that people are always coming and going.

We’ve been looking for a new Saturday taco joint! Look no further, this place is delicious. The flour tortillas are so amazing. The chips and salsa are yummy too! We were also impressed with the service, our waitress was very friendly and prompt. I can’t wait for next Saturday:)

My wife and I were in town from Seattle to Celebrate her father’s 60th birthday. Her side of the family has deep Texas roots, and they don’t tolerate bad Mexican food. Having grown up in Honolulu, where tourists crave grass skirts and pigs roasting underground, I prefer the authentic, every-man experience wherever I am. I should mention that this isn’t my first time in TX, so I’m no mere gringo having the good stuff for the first time. The first thing that I always take note of is the clientele. Clearly all locals. Call me whatever you’d like, but if you’re at a Mexican eatery in the barrio and the place is full of visitors, you’re in Disneyland. The place was clean, and the staff was very courteous, so I was told. My father-in-law was my translator. This place served me the best barbacoa I’ve ever had. I remember making a comment at the table that I would no longer be able to enjoy any barbacoa anywhere else. I even ordered another for the road, as stuffed as I was. It really was THATGOOD. The tortillas are handmade and very, very tasty. After the meal, we slowly made our way to the car. Next, the non-English speaking gentleman who rang me up(Maybe Julio?) bolted after us waving something in his hand. It was a $ 10 bill. Apparently, he charged me a little too much and refunded me the difference ANDMYTIP! When I turned to my father-in-law, he relayed the message: «He said he’s very sorry, but he charged you too much. He hopes you can forgive him.» He was such a sweetheart I wanted him to keep the money. He wouldn’t even take it back. I was so impressed with Julio’s Café I just had to write them a glowing review. I know that I will make visits to this fine establishment a top priority whenever I’m in town.

Joined my brother for some Huevos Rancheros on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and were quite impressed with the flavor of the food as well as the fresh homemade flour tortillas. We will be back. Great service; waitress kept refilling our coffee and we didn’t have to chase her down for anything. Large location with an ample parking lot, although it seems that they would not have enough parking room IF the entire restaurant was full. I’ll return just for the great service and the wonderful fresh flour tortillas.

Julio’s café is THE best place for Mexican food in San Antonio. It’s authentic, the service is great, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I think the reviewer below has the wrong place because I’ve been going to Julio’s Café since it opened and there has NEVER been a jukebox there. Just letting you know.

My bf came here awhile ago. I ordered the sopes/mini tacos and they were good but to be honest they looked way better than they tasted. I also didnt appreciate that I had to have my bf ask for more drink, more salsa b/c I was apparently invisible to her. I wonder if that had anything to do w/the fact that I put on a few songs on the jukebox and one of them happened to be George Strait? Everyone turned and looked @ me like what?(acc’d to my bf) well This is SAn antonio!(george strait country) and ITIS on the jukebox. If you dont want me to play it, dont put it as an option. The food was ok but I just wasnt a fan of the service.

This is my favorite place to eat Mexican food in San Antonio. It’s definitely not Tex-Mex, it’s real Mexican and it’s quality Mexican. The food is the closest thing I’ve had in San Antonio that resembles the food in El Paso(my hometown). Their salsas(green and red) are awesome, I still have dreams about it. It’s a great place to grab taco’s in the morning or lunch on the weekends. It’s not a super fancy place, the prices are good, and you can walk in with your T-shirt and shorts. Hopefully a soccer game is on when you go so you can hear, «GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!» Julio’s Café is the bigger/newer version of «Café Rose #1»(the building is still there in the parking lot). Café Rose #1 was always busy and packed, but it was too small. That’s why Julio’s was built. It’s the same menu, same cooks, and the same waitresses that worked at Café Rose #1.
