La Villita Cafe

My gf brought me here on a Saturday morning, you have to wait in line to order your meal and then sit down. Smells Mexican AF when you walk in the door so points for that! Breakfasts tacos prices are a lil steep at 2.40 each. Service feels rushed giving it a ⁵⁄₁₀. Coffee gf got was watered down, but they replaced it quickly with an Americano, kudos on that. we ordered 3 tacos at 11:12 got them at 11:38. Honestly Taco Cabana has better tasting tacos.

I waited 20 mins for 2 breakfast tacos that were ok. The only saving grace is they were on fresh tortillas. I’m from Austin, breakfast tacos, even made fresh to order, should never take that long. Especially to-​go.

Love the locality of the place… Very gracious host who delivers your food… It’s a 3 star at best vs 4 as averaged here. The location clearly has engendered a great local following but 4&5 stars are not deserved… Good people just being nice, but to fair read the rest.
The breakfast is good, hot and fresh. The rest of the menu, I had a sample of items from the specials to include the white chicken chili, was sadly underwhelming… Lacked pop… If you’re relying on the salsas for the pop as many do here you missing the point. The food needs to seasoned to stand on its own, should be burst with freshness and flavor vs simply being cooked and combined. Salsa merely help highlight or reveal other notes.
The white chicken chili was neither hot (temp) nor flavorful… Flourie, pasty– definitely white.
The place is great, the people are great, the location is great, but it’s the food that makes it a restaurant. Rededicate your self on flavor focus and the techniques to make that happen because all the other elements for a truly great local gem are here… But you have to want to achieve more vs settling for what you got. Continuous improvement vs continuous change… Focus and perfect on a few things that will pop vs a bunch of the items that flop.

Great fresh food. No table service but everything is simple. The menu is very flexible and you can sort of mix and match as needed. Eggs are done perfectly whether poached or fried also the bacon is nice and crisp!

Great food and service. Highly recommend the Alamo Benedict, although for $ 11 the portion is quite small. The breakfast tacos are legit and the tortillas have to be homemade. Well worth a visit!

NOT good today. We had hoped for the fantastic same plates we had last time.
Unfortunately, our pancakes where like a suitcase, and burned. Eggs overcooked,
like they sat for quite a while, maybe leftovers? Maybe the eggs my BF tells me
about in the military, powdered. Seemed nice vibe. Our coffe was a diff brand
and the lady at the counter was short to the point. Kind of like hurry up already.
Shame on you for inconsistency.

Outstanding white chicken chili. Worth the walk just for that if you enjoy really well-​made dishes. The owner says the recipe is over 100 years old and I don’t doubt it — why change something that good?
It takes a good while to get the food out so don’t expect fast-​food turnaround times — that’s the only thing holding them back from a top rating in my mind.
Recommended if you’re in the area.

Popped in for an early lunch. Was not disappointed.
Pros: Off the Riverwalk in a quieter spot. Good is fresh, local, and everything we had was delicious. Indoor and outdoor seating options. Sweet bread station full of Mexican baked goods
Cons: Service was a touch slow but not bad at all.

Stopped in for breakfast. Tacos were great, pancakes super fluffy. Comfortable atmosphere. Don’t like all the plastics they are throwing away in the deli-​style service, we had a lot of packaging on table by time all done. But price, food, location and service all great!
