This review is for Bonita Rita’s, not Mercado Rita’s. Mercado is on the surface street level, I believe, and Bonita’s is on the river level. So, if you’re on the surface street level, you’ll have to come down by the river to get to Bonita Rita’s. Anyway, Bonita Rita’s is a small touristy shop packed tight with various knickknacks and souvenirs. There were little baby dresses, painted cat statues, magnets, blankets, you name it! Pretty much the same types of things you’ll find at most of the tourist shops on the Riverwalk. The price range was pretty reasonable, as we purchased a blanket for $ 14 after tax, cheaper than some and more expensive than others. The service was nice enough, nothing special. Also, they share a suite with Justin’s Ice Cream Shop. They did, as some others mentioned, have signs up that said no pictures.

We stopped by this place while visiting San Antonio. We were looking around and my wife had picked out some earrings that she like when a friend noticed some flower tiaras, and we decided to snap a photo. The lady working behind the counter yelled at us, «NOPHOTOS!!!» We were so embarrassed because now everyone in the store was now looking at us. So we quickly exited the store. We were outside and the same lady came to to door and stared at us, while we were decided where to go next. Super rude!!! There were no signs indicating their no photo policy.

Mercado Rita’s is a goldmine of Mexican gift and boutique items. It’s the perfect place to find unique gifts for all my siblings, nieces, nephews and friends for Christmas. They’re constantly getting new things in from Mexico, so you never know what you’re going to find. DEFINITELY a place worth making the trip to downtown/the Riverwalk to check out.
