This place was kinda of fun. Love the live music by the Irishman and his guitar. Service leaves a lot to be desired for a vacation destination. Would have loved to buy more than one drink, on a slow Wednesday night, in February. Bar tenders were covered in tats and piercings that would be way more suitable for a biker bar or halfway house, not a «friendly Irish pub».

We love Waxy’s. If you like a creamy chicken pot pie, this is for you! It’s not like a pot pie in a crust, but the flavor was really good. The service was great and I would recommend the bread pudding and an Irish cream coffee.

Came Sat around 330 and Sat at the bar. Bartender Christy was super nice and on top of things. Kept us happy and beers full. Good selection of draft beers and they HH daily starting at 4. Fish and chips pretty good, one piece seemed a little undercooked, but still decent. Overall, I like this place. Nice long bar inside, some TVs. which they could use and extra tv in front bar area, seating outside, right on riverwalk

We had a great experience here! Lunch on the Riverwalk for the Alamo Bowl weekend. We sat at the bar since the restaurant area didn’t have seating. The bar tender was really attentive and kept us full of Irish coffee as we were freezing from the weekend full of rain. He recommended the top 3 sellers for our lunch selections. Fish and chips, shepherds pie, and the Irish stew. I ended up with the shepherds pie and was not disappointed with my choice. Hot, filling and delicious. The fish and chips were also great. Really flaky cod and the fries were perfect. Daughter had the Irish stew and loved it. The place has a really great feel to it. The wait staff is great and the patrons were all pretty awesome as well. Definitely recommend this place and would come back!

Im a local of S.A. and work downtown as well… and all i can say is that ive been ordering from they for years now and never disappoint. I know its not a traditional Irish item but gotta have their Hamburger with an egg on top! Great selection of beer and tvs to watch sports! Chicken sandwhich is great too!

We came here for drinks after dinner. The bartender was polite and attentive. Live acoustic music provided nice entertainment. The patrons were jovial and having a good time. It was exactly like an Irish Pub should look and feel. Fun time!

I came to visit from out of town and was highly disappointed. Scenery was beautiful and service was good but that’s all the positive. First off, the bar tender did not know how to properly pour a Guinness and this is an Irish Pub! I just had to send it back. Next the food, I ordered fish and chips. I thought to myself, how can one mess that up. Well, fries were barley warm and the cod batter was soggy as if it was heated in a microwave oven. My wife ordered the chicken pot pie which came out cold(must have not not put it in microwave long enough). Now I know why this place was the least busy restaurant we walked past. I would not recommend this location in fact I even joked about recommending this location for that bar rescue tv show.

This was my second trip to Waxy’s. On both occasions I just had a pint or 2 of Guinness. But I do want to get back and try their Sheppard’s pie or other dinner offerings. Waxy’s has a great atmosphere; really good selection of draft Beer and an awesome selection of Scotch, Whisky and Bourbon. It makes for a really hard choice. I definitely will be heading back soon.

Very bad service. Cannot comment on food because we got up and left after waiting 45 minutes for it. Waitress did not come to our table to refill my drink or share an update on the food. She was happily at the bar eating her own dinner talking to coworkers. The women at the next table had the same time experience. When I got up to ask where the food was, she said the kitchen was backed up and it is a Saturday night. The restaurant was not crowded and I didn’t see many tables eating. Another waitress came by to say she checked the food order ticket and it showed it was put in only twenty minutes earlier. My Guinness draft tasted weird. My reco… avoid this place.

Look, you got to give five stars to anything that keeps the hangover at bay. I was visiting San Antonio for the weekend, and this pub happened to be directly below and in front of my hotel room window. A very lively place, but I didn’t get to check out the bar or drinks there. I order a sampler appetizer that included the chicken strips, potato skins, and chicken wings. The gold is great pub food. Like someone else said, the chicken strips are coated and breaded in a crispy almost panko-like crust. They are flat, which means pure white meat chicken breast(yummy)! The chicken wings are spicy and tender, yet crispy at the same time! The potato skins are also cheesy and gooey.

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to try out the beer selection. On another note, if you’re looking for a full meal of chicken, get the chicken tender appetizer. Actually, they’re really chicken slices. Not so much tenders. Either way they were crispy, flavorful, and delicious. I’m definitely going to have to try this again while I’m here. And maybe enjoy some beer. :)

Had the Dublin chicken. It seems to have been under the heat lamps for about 8 hours, so it was very hard to eat. Our drinks were empty for about 30 minutes. Not sure if they will get refilled as I am writing this from the restaurant. Still waiting…

This Place does not survive because of its great Menu, it is lucky to be at the Riverwalk and that’s how tourism comes in. The Food is horrible, especially the Hot Wings. Service at the Bar was great, but don’t order any Food The Live Music Artist at the Night we came in was just as bad as the Food Sorry Waxy O’Connor, your Chef, Menu and Music Sucks, but Bar Service was great

Good for an afternoon snack or a late night drinks with friends. The bar is very large so It can fit a large group. Right on the river walk so nice location. There are many choices on the river walk but if you are in the mood for Irish food, music and drinks this is the place.

Did not try the food here but stopped in for a drink or two… This is a real Irish pub with staff from over the pond. The music they had Saturday evening was amazing and the drinks, well the bartendar from Ireland will put you in a place you have not visited for a long time. It was very enjoyable, the crowd was a warm and friendly crowd and I don’t know if the atmosphere is always that way or if the bartenders along with the music help you get to a warm and friendly place. There were a lot of regulars there so I am going to go with both, naturally warm and friendly and the drinks. I was warned about making friends with an Irish Bartendar as you can expect nothing less then having the time of your life but I am a leo and love a challenge. What is important is that not only did I have a great time, but I remember the entire experience so even though making friends may have not been the best choice for my body and the rest of the evening night was filled with challenges, I would not change a thing about it. If I get the chance to go there again, I hope to cross paths with the same bartendar as he was warm and friendly and a true Irishman.

After a terrible first meal in San Antonio(at Pizzarita’s… Must name and shame) we opted for a safer i.e. chain restaurant for a casual lunch. My fish and chips was pretty good, although I think they shrunk the portion from 3 fillets to 2. The downer was that the chipped potatoes were a bit burnt from too hot oil. Sam’s corned beef and cabbage with potatoes was a plain dish without much love and attention. The corned beef was more like pastrami. After lunch I shared the experience with my old boss in Ireland. I have to share his hilarious response: «Delighted to hear from you Stephen — hope all is well. I haven’t visited Waxy O’ Connor’s in San Antonio so I can’t say for sure if you experienced the ‘true atmosphere and craic of an Irish pub’ as they promise on their website. But there are a couple of small points I’d like to raise. Pride of place on their menu is Dublin chicken. I’m from Dublin. I’ve never heard of it. Is it Dublin Ohio chicken, perhaps…»
