My favorite lunch spot! Family owned and operated. Great service and even better food! Their pizza is my favorite!

This is definitely a hidden gem! I had lasagna and a friend had the spaghetti and meatball plate which were both delicious! The food was fresh and flavorful. Pros: seated fast, great food, great service, portion size is nice Cons: location. It can be missed easily mainly bc the shopping center it is located in is pretty dead but I’m definitely going back!

Loved everything about this place. From the service and appetizers to the bread and dessert, everything was delicious. I had the lasagna and my son had the fettuccine Alfredo… both were just right. My favorite two things were the stuffed mushrooms and the tiramisu. Everything is made fresh and it is all reasonably priced. We will definitely return.

Went again last night, the food and service was outstanding. I only gave 4 stars because I thought the minestrone soup vegetables were over cooked for my liking. It was good, just different. I had the beef lasagna, it was good. Again, different than what I am used to. My wife had a cheese pizza. I asked her if it was as good as Pizza Hut. I got a mmmm hmmmm with a big smile. I asked her if was as good as her favorite pizza place in New Jersey. I got a mmmmmm hmmmm with a big smile. To get a yankee to say her pizza was better than her favorite place are strong words. I’m really looking forward into trying more of the menu offerings. This is truly a new favorite place of ours.

The food was excellent! Our entrees both came with a choice of soup or salad. The server was great! He was very attentive and gave good recommendations. You will not be disappointed if you choose to dine here. We will definitely be returning!

I have to echo many of the other reviews, this place is truly a hidden gem! The food and service were top notch. Our food was fresh, salad was robust, and service was prompt. We had the chicken griglia(sp?), chicken parm, pepperoni pizza, and caprese salad — I would highly recommend everything we had. Can’t wait to go back.

I don’t know why this place is not packed every minute the doors are open. Every dish I have had there is simply delicious. The service is excellent. This is a hidden gem on the NW side.

I absolutely love this place. I’ve been recommended several times by my co-workers to visit this little gem tucked into a corner of a small shopping center. Don’t let that deter you. The food is delicious and the service is great. On my first visit, we were a group of about 30 and the servers were very attentive. Drinks were refilled and all the dishes came out together(which is very impressive for a large group). The stuffed mushrooms are oh sooooo good and both dishes that I tried were tasty. Also, their dinner portions are huge. I have not tried their desserts, but on my next dinner visit I will make sure to make room. On my 2nd visit, I ordered my lunch to go and I got the chicken dish with the side of risotto. Oh my, so creamy and the veggies and chicken were buttery. By no means healthy, but I didn’t care haha. Try it, you won’t regret it.

My Chicken was dry, tasted like it was precooked and reheated, and cold pasta. Kids cheese pizza was huge and great. Sweet tea was awesome.

A little hidden gem in SA! Wait staff was pleasant and very attentive. The food was delicious. I always worry about too much garlic in Italian restaurants, but this place got it spot on. Would definitely recommend for a nice date night as the ambiance was very nice.

Our family is here in San Antonio for the graduation of our airman from basic military training Lackland AFB. Every one of the eight of us ordered something different and the food was amazing from the entrees to the desserts. It’s in an unassuming part of town but don’t be thrown off by the location. Plenty of food. We all took home leftovers! We highly recommend everything. Our waitress Jen was perfection. The only problem is that there is not an Umberto’s in our hometown!

If this place doesn’t get on Diners Drive ins and Dives soon, then Guy will be dead to me. Top 3 pizzas I’ve ever had, and this place is in San Antonio. Fettuccine was very good too. Don’t expect stellar service, but the food makes you forget that it’s a hole in the wall. If your visiting the Hill Country resort come here and get a dang pizza.

We found this by a lucky look at Unilocal on our way home from San Antonio! I’m so glad we did! The service was wonderful; they were so sweet and patient with our three little ones! The food was great! I had chicken gorgonzola, and it was so good! Portions are large, I have plenty for lunch tomorrow. Also had the stuffed mushrooms and loved those as well! We’ll definitely be back; our 4 year old son asked if we could come back for his birthday!

EASTCOASTCOMPARISON: A far better version of Pasta Mia in Adams Morgan, Washington DC(without the ridiculous line and with better pasta to boot) 4.25 stars. From the outside, Umberto’s appears to be nothing more than a middling casual restaurant located in a dilapidated shopping center. Yet dismissing Umberto’s in this manner would be folly as inside you’ll find some of the best casual Italian in the city. Umberto’s hearkens to a previous era where dining was a bit more simplistic. This isn’t the place to go if you are looking for exotic«takes» on Italian classics. Instead, you order classic dishes that uses ordinary ingredients and is cooked in a manner that makes it extraordinary. For example, an orzo soup went easy on the Italian pasta, but was perfectly accented with flecks of carrot, celery, rosemary and black pepper swimming in a rich but not too heavy cream base. The complimentary rolls are served with mounds of butter, but it’s really the interesting use of herbs within the bread that makes the appetizer. There are other winners on the menu as well. The classic Caesar salad is well dressed here, and the anchovy taste isn’t overwhelming in the preparation. A chicken gorgonzola comes with no less than three generous cuts of chicken, and the blue cheese heavy sauce proved an excellent pair for the side spaghetti. This was the experience I hoped to get back at Pasta Mia in DC. Classic Italian is oddly a difficult find outside of the chain restaurants, and unfortunately, the experience was fumbled in the nation’s capitol. I’m happy to report that the concept is far better handled on the outskirts of Texas Hill Country.

We had the chicken Marsala and it was decent bodily sweet and overwhelmed with the mushroom sauce. I tried all the red wines. None were good. The rolls are delicious and the service was excellent but that’s about it. I hate to say, but I am underwhelmed.

Outstanding. The interior is somewhat sterile, it has an office or warehouse quality, could be more cozy, warm, and intimate. But let me tell you, the food and service are EXCELLENT and far exceeded my expectations. Will be a regular patron after tonight. I had the eggplant parmesan it was not the best I’ve had but solid. My dining companion loved his chicken entrée. Bread was good. Unilocalers are right on this one!

Tucked within an unassuming business complex, Umberto’s is quite the surprise when searching for quality Italian food on SA’s Northwest Side. Quick highlights –(1) STRONG flavor game here;(2) outstanding service & staff friendliness;(3) sharp restaurant execution. Atmosphere leaves only some to be desired; overall décor, though slightly generic, is pleasing. Upon entrance, expect an immediate warm greeting and offer to be seated according to your liking. Water and bruschetta di pomodori(garlic-toasted bread topped w/olive oil, basil & tomatoes) are brought out to start. Umberto’s menu is concise, accurate, appropriately descriptive. Next brought to table alongside any appetizers are warm rosemary bread + whipped butter. My farfalle(bow-tie pasta w/Italian sausage, bell pepper & red onion) was hearty and savory, its sauce flowing with vodka and fennel notes. Topped with grated Parmesan, the dish was a KNOCKOUT and one I’ll be returning for hands down. Its Caesar companion was perfectly dressed, complemented with decent croûtons. Umberto’s pulls off dessert well too. The tiramisù that followed my entrée was abundantly coffee-flavored and layered nicely with mascarpone. I’m already looking forward to trying their cheesecake next visit, as well as some of their wines… skipped out this time. In closing, I’m all for supporting local businesses, ESPECIALLY family-run ones, and with 3+ years of growing service — thanks to glowing Unilocal reviews and positive word of mouth — I can see why Umberto’s has many a loyal patron who breaks bread with them not once, not twice, but up to five times by week’s end. I’m not the least bit surprised a restaurant expansion is in the works. All I know… Umberto’s is doing their thing and doing it extremely well. If a non-chain, authentic Italian eatery is on your mind, grab your wallet [plus anyone else with common sense] and show this good-natured, understated establishment some love. You’ll receive nothing but the same. Guaranteed. Rating specifics(i.e. 1 – 5, low-high)… — Overall recommendation = 4.5 — Food taste and quality = 5+(no bland Italian here!!!) — Portion size = 5 — Price = 4.25(FYI, lunch prices are where it’s at!) — Atmosphere = 3.5 — General service = 4.75 — Waitstaff = 5+(love catching up w/waitstaff & management!) — Location = 3(its semi-hidden location can be seen as both good & bad…)

Here in San Antonio for the weekend with my mom, brother and brother’s girlfriend and we stopped by Umberto’s for dinner. Location wise, I honestly didn’t think this spot would be stellar but I was highly mistaken. We came in and were immediately greeted and seated. Our server brought over crostini topped with tomato which we immediately devoured. We even asked for another plate of it!(Please add to the menu!!!) Some of the servers definitely had a feeling we weren’t from the area(I guess our Jersey accents were screaming for attention hahah) so we had small talk with one of them about what it was like living up in Jersey in comparison to San Antonio! But anywho! Here’s what we ordered: 1. Calamari Appetizer 2. Farfelle a la vodka with chicken 3. Eggplant parmesan with angel hair pasta 4. «Umberto’s Pasta» — penne with lots of grilled veggies(mmmm) 5. Fettuccine Alfredo with salmon(my order). Our entrees also came with a choice of house salad or soup. I chose the soup of the day — cheese potato — and I loved it. It tasted even better when I dunked the(free) bread in it! We were all so impressed with the food and how great the flavor was. The calamari had a nice lemony flavor and tasted fresh. Personally, my salmon was cooked to perfection! The pasta had great flavor, as well — my brother was reaching from the other side of the table stealing some off my plate! Overall, the portions were huge and so good for the price. I barely finished half of my plate and got it boxed to go. To top it all off, our main server was amazing. He wasn’t suffocating us, checked up on us occasionally and had such a sweet personality. If I ever find myself back in San Antonio, I will definitely be back. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!
