UYE Meet Your CM

I think this was my first UYE and it was so much fun for the short time I was there. I believe I started Unilocaling right around the time SA lost their CM. So actually having a CM and having Gloria as a CM makes me thrilled on all the exciting things to come.
I never have been to Zinc before. What a great choice Gloria! Their specialty cocktails were amazing. I don’t remember what my drink was but it was pretty and yummy. That’s all you really need to know right? Met some new Unilocalers and caught up with my Unilocaler friends. Picked at some great shared plates. Those Fries were really amazing. Too bad I could only pop by. Can’t wait for the next!

Could not of selected a better location. Great for conversation. Excellent specialty cocktails and very good munching food.
Was nice to see so many Unilocalers could make it out on short notice on a weeknight. Was great that this was held so fast after Gloria was officially revealed as CM.
Look forward to more fun events in the future.

What better time to get together than Happy Hour? What better place to indulge in a variety of (half-​priced!) cocktails than Zinc? And seriously, who better to set it up and act as our new CM than Gloria?
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Gloria and Jelena. I think they may be able to moonlight as a hostess/​server with knowledge of the menu and detailed description of each and every cocktail ;). After some meetin’ and greetin’, Gloria told us to order some shared plates and really, I don’t need to be told twice. Loved their specialty cocktails (even more so because they were relatively cheap) and the *cough*numerous*cough* shared plates.
Now that I have a pretty good feel for what Glo (Yes, she said I can call her that.) is all about, I think she’s a perfect fit for our new CM and I can’t wait for what she has in store!

I came here to celebrate Gloria C’s new position as SA’s new Unilocal Ambassador. The prickly pear martini was so cold the condensation froze! It was perfect on a hundred degree summer day. The spinach artichoke au gratin was great also. Oh and thanks for picking up the tab, Jelena!

Am I reviewing Gloria, Zinc or the UYE itself?
Hmmmm… Where to start.
Lets start with we have not had a CM for what 6 or so months?
I finally see a thread announcing Gloria and then I see the UYE at Zinc. It was everything in my power to not head down there yesterday and just sit and wait.
I had never been to Zinc before so I will start there. They have a pretty kick butt happy Hour. ½ Price Specialty Cocktails and Appetizers. The drinks were delicious. The fries and calamari were on point. The aoli that came with the calamari was also great on the fries. I will definitely have to go back again and check it out a little more in depth.
Now to the UYE itself.
1. Jai was late as always.
2. When Jai finally showed up she kept stealing my drink.
3. When my drink was empty Jai stole Stephens.
4. I may regret taking her to 1919 I think I have created a monster.
Ok seriously now.
It was awesome to meet Gloria. I think she will do great things for the San Antonio Unilocalers. My only complaint for her is about the Miller lite vs a Craft beer. But hey no one is perfect.
Got to meet a few new Unilocalers including Lauren (aka @OhMyPuddin) I was very excited to finally meet her after chatting on Twitter for so long. As usual everyone that I met was very cool. Had some good drinks and great conversation with fellow foodies. Is there ever a bad Unilocal Event? I don’t think so.
Oh and yes, Jai, the drink I had when you left was my last. Happy Hour was over. They actually wanted me to pay full price! Well that and Jose said he was leaving and I didn’t want to sit there alone.

Those who know me know I hardly ever show up on time. I did make sure to tell our lovely new CM, Gloria, that ahead of time. I have to make my entrance, ya know? Geez!
The S.A. Unilocal crew has been without representation for a little bit of time now so it was really great news to hear that we have in our presence a wonderful new person to take the reigns over and start fresh with all of us. And after meeting Gloria, I am more than confident she’ll do great things in the name of Unilocal!
As soon as I walked in, I saw familiar faces and felt right at home. Kathy, Carl, and I came in together and immediately saw Shawn, Steve, Ash, and Jose. I finally got to meet Jelena (deemed the ‘new’ Kevin by Austin Unilocalers lol) and of course, the star of the show, Ms. Gloria herself. After introductions, she offered a drink to us but after my dare-​devil-​alcoholic stint at 1919 with Shawn on Sunday, I declined. So instead, I just took a sip from his and Steve’s. The chocolatini with raspberry or whatever it was — so creamy and delish!!! Just the right amount of everything!
We got some Unilocal swag of course, and the three of us who walked in together, closed out the happy hour leaving Shawn and Jose to their final (?) drinks. Lol I did meet one other Unilocaler — Daniel! I’ve seen him on and off the boards for a really long time… read his reviews… invited him to UYEs… and I FINALLY got to meet him. Whoa! Cool guy too. :) I wish I was able to meet the other Unilocalers but I’m sure we’ll get other chances to do that — especially for the official event next month! Can’t wait!!!
