I got the«Peruvian Chicken» empanada at the Pearl Farmers Market. Unfortunately I thought it was just OK… and therefore not worth the $ 5 price tag. It has a little spiciness to it, which I appreciated, but otherwise was pretty generic chickeny-cheesy and not really heated all the way through. I’m not sure what about it defined it as «Peruvian chicken». Doubtful I’ll be back.

I had visited Yapa’s back in January during a sparsely attended version of the Saturday Farmer’s Market, so the first thing I did when I got back into town again on 6⁄1(permanently) was to head over to the market for their mushroom and cheese empanadas. Fabulous and vegetarian. The crust was flaky and and the ample filling was moist and savory. 4 bucks a pop. Worth every penny.

Twice I have had the empanadas during the farmers market at the pearl. My first experience deserved 4* and the second 2*. The bbq brisket is a nice twist to empanadas, so is the sweet potato if you are looking for a more dessert like experience. With the bbq ine, we were offered Chipotle sauce and a pickle, these definitely added to the experience! Very pricey at $ 5 each, and I expect it to be hot not cold.

Ate at the new location in Dripping Springs. Food is outstanding. Loved all the ones I tried. The conquistador is absolutely fabulous. Really worth trying especially if you want something a little different.

I had heard about YAPA on social media, so when I saw him at the Quarry Farmers Market this last Sunday, I knew I had to try it out! Because I got there later in the day, my options were limited, but delicious! I chose to get the smaller chicken empanada, and the owner threw in a second one for free for my toddler — so thoughtful! The chicken was tender and juicy, and the pastry itself was a perfect golden brown and so flavorful! I later learned«YAPA» — the name — is actually a thing in Chile when the artisans and business owners give the customers a little something extra. I’ve been stalking his Instagram page and want to try out some of his other flavors, like the mushroom and cheese.

Yay for Yapa’s yummy empanadas– seasonal sweet potato flavor is delish for something sweet, but the cheese and mushroom is where it’s at! A few meat varieties available for your favorite carnivore, including the Texas-special brisket with BBQ sauce and the traditional with meat, olives, and egg. I hear the spinach version is to die for, too. Friendly faces and tasty smells from their booth at the Pearl farmers market brought me here. Dough used is thick and delicious, oddly reminiscent of sourdough or pretzel. Filling is ample, and $ 4 price tag is cheap. Take my money!

Second time we’ve had these at the Pearl FM on Saturdays. Highly recommend trying their«conquistador» as it’s the traditional empanada from Chile. Brisket and spinach also very good. They also have pebre, which sorta looks like pico de gallo but has a different taste profile.
