I started seeing Dr. Scott because I was experiencing debilitating pain in my left hip and shoulder from exercise-​related injuries.
Dr. Scott is patient, thorough and committed. He was able to pinpoint exactly where my pain originated from quickly and within our first 2 – 3 sessions, I saw very notable results. His process is not always the most comfortable, but it is absolutely worth the outcomes. I am now able to sleep through the night on my left side because of our sessions — a minor miracle that I never thought would happen following my injuries.
Not only is Dr. Scott a wonderful chiropractor, but he is also a genuinely great person. I always enjoy my sessions with him because of his unique ability to turn uncomfortable moments (such as an adjustment or a therapy) into engaging conversation and overall, an enjoyable experience.
I am so thankful for Dr. Scott and would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone in need of this kind of service — I guarantee that you will be glad you went to him.

I had been dealing with a limp for a few weeks until I started seeing Dr Scott. We discussed the best therapy for my injury which was Active Release Therapy. Active Release Therapy is tuff and it is painful, but Dr. Scott easy going personality and great experience makes this procedure easier to endure. I am happy to report that my sexy limp is gone. We are now working on my neck and my allergies which have improved tremendously. I recommended Dr. Scott to any of friends and family.

I was referred to Dr. Scott by colleagues at EA when I suddenly had great difficulty walking; truly extremely painful. There are three things we want from a health pro and he excels at all of them.
1) Genuine attention to the symptom and commitment to fixing the problem. Sounds magical, but I could walk after the first treatment. Returned later in the week and he arranged for an MRI, as well as continuing to use his ART to relieve the pain and begin the healing. A tear inside the hip responded very well to the ART, and weeks later, the pain has not returned, and my «freaked out» sore muscles have relaxed.
2) Educating the patient so we can heal. Dr. Scott will take the time to show you what is occurring, why it is causing the problem and describe exactly what he is about to do. He is efficient with this time, and will spend as little or as much as you feel you need to understand. He also was very clear about what kinds of exercises I can do at home, as well as what not to do. Yes, the ART can be painful and he prepares you for it, will stop at the moment that it becomes «unbearable». I found it tolerable, and it works!
3) Working collaboratively with all other health practitioners involved. He recommended that I see my own MD at Stanford, who prescribed pain meds and set up XRay, MRI, etc. When there was a problem in getting the MRI completed, he stepped in on a day he is was not in the office to coordinate and get the assessment completed. Then read the report and went over it with me to focus the next work. He focuxsed on using ART to get the pain under control, then the chiropractic treatment to maintain my health and resilience.
Scheduling appointments is as easy as it gets, whether on-​line or in person and there are email reminders if that is helpful.
He is extraordinarily compassionate, genuinely interested in my well-​being, and without reserve, the finest chiropractor I’ve worked with. Highly recommended.

I had been hearing about him for a couple years now from my co-​workers. He is well loved. I finally went to see him for Achilles Tendonitis.
I was wavering between 4 stars and 5 stars. I went with 5 because of how I feel today. 4 stars is when I am physically with him. I won’t lie… It hurts. Active Release Therapy is not for pansies. But if you want to actively recover instead of waiting months I highly recommend Dr. Scott. After two weeks of torture with him (5 sessions) I feel like I can go running. I WONT yet of course… But it’s worth putting a review in here. His technique really works. I hope I never have to see him for torture again… But if I do I know it’s going to work.
He is also a really cool dude. That doesn’t effect my strong feelings of wanting to scream at him during the sessions… But afterward I can quickly warm up again so I don’t want to punch something. He has a great sense of humor and tries his best to distract you from the therapy. Be strong… Breathe and get help! Dr torture is worth it!!!

Dr. Scott is amazing. I was having major neck pain and he fit me in same day. He did his ART and his manipulation and my neck was better almost right away. I went back for some more visits to keep stuff in line and now my neck has no pain. He is amazing!

Dr. Scott is the best! He takes the time with you to make sure he understands what’s happening and explains everything as he works with you. We feel truly taken care of when we visit Dr. Scott! I highly recommend him for any type of condition that requires chiropractic or muscular work, he approaches things in such a way that he gets at the original problem and doesn’t just put a bandaid on the problem.

Dr. Nissenbaum is passionate about his work and the community he serves in San Carlos. As a new patient who presented with excruciating and debilitating lower back (hip) pain just two days ago, I’m shocked and surprised that I am actually planning to go back to work tomorrow. Initially I couldn’t stand without my legs buckling out from underneath me and I couldn’t even breathe without electrocuting pain sensations that literally took my breath away. I saw him Monday and twice on Tuesday and feel so fortunate to have been treated by him. He has been such a compassionate doctor, so empathetic and kind. His technique includes soft tissue manipulation that really compliments traditional Chiropractic treatment. It is amazing how he can push on a muscle and manipulate it so that a vertebrae releases and realigns without a conventional Chiropractic adjustment. This guy knows his stuff! I really hope anyone in pain doesn’t question where they should go. They should definitely make an appointment to see him. He’s not only a great doctor but just a really awesome and honorable person. While I’m not happy about being hurt, I am thrilled about meeting Dr. Nissenbuam. I’ll be back and I’ll recommend him to anyone without reservation.

As a patient, I don’t want to be treated as just another «time-​slot» with a «cookie cutter» solution to my problem. Dr. Scott tackles your issue like it’s a personal issue of his own. He’s friendly and approachable. He is great with all stages of the treatment, and will give you exercises/​stretches to continue your treatment after you’ve left his office.
Working with Dr. Scott, it became apparent very early that he’s extremely knowledgeable in his field. There is a true passion about what he does and it’s evident in his discussions and treatment. He will genuinely listen to your problem (or problems), ask quality questions, and explain what is causing the issue and how he recommends getting it better. He has a true passion for physical health.
For anyone looking into the need for a chiropractor, I STRONGLY urge you to give Dr. Scott a try, you will be THANKFUL you did.

I went to Dr. Nissenbaum with pretty bad back/​neck pain, and right after the first session my pain was greatly relieved. After going for several more sessions I was feeling much better.
Dr. Nissenbaum is very competent and knowledgeable. He takes all the time necessary to carefully explain everything that he is doing.

Sports injury is not uncommon to me and leading a run club makes me very vulnerable. Most recently, I inadvertently compromised my Psoas, Iliacus, TFL and Piriformis. I don’t like hearing my bones crack so when I went to Dr. Scott, I specifically told him this. I love the option of using ART and what an incredible outcome it has been! After 5 – 6 weeks of treatment, my pain is gone and I am no longer walking funny. After 3 months of strengthening the areas, I have returned back to running though being very cautious this time. When I found myself in need of an emergency chiropractic appointment soon after I moved to the area, I was a bit nonplussed to find that there were quite a few five-​star-​rated practitioners. It appears that people, not surprisingly, tend to give top reviews to any chiropractor who eases their pain, and since a good chiro should do that… well, you get the point. But I rolled the dice and wound up with Dr. Niss.
I got lucky — as far as I’m concerned he is the perfect chiropractor for me. I’ve been to quite a few (dozens) of practitioners over the years, and Dr. Nissenbaum is absolutely the best in how (and how well) he incorporates soft-​tissue techniques (principally active release techniques, or ART) into his work. There’s often more to chiropractic issues than spinal alignment, and Dr. Niss understands this and puts it into practice.
Combine this broader-​than-​usual focus with incredible flexibility (he rearranged his schedule multiple times to accommodate mine, even when he’d just met me) and kindness, as well as an impressive body of technical knowledge (as a teacher of college biology I can recognize the difference between knowledge and BS, and Dr. Niss knows his stuff), and he’s everything I want in a chiropractor. It’s a personal decision and I imagine he’s not right for everyone, but take it from someone who has seen many doctors in the field and who tends to be highly critical: if you need help, Dr. Nissenbaum is worth your consideration.

Scott is not just one of the best chiropractors I’ve come across, but he is an amazing human being and looks forward to providing the best care and all the attention in the world to people.
I’ve had left knee problems recently but he’s been able to provide as much work and effort on it as possible and has broken down all the information for me so that I can understand what’s going on. Does a great job with the ART method and was able to apply kinesio tape around the leg and it’s been feeling a lot better in many ways. I have to do my part in taking care though and not re-​aggravating it.
I can’t say enough about Scott though, highly recommendable.

I have had back pain since I was a teenager. I’ve been to a couple chiropractors over the years just to see if they made any difference and they did not really do anything for me. Dr. Niss saw me on a day when my back was thrown out and he had me walking out of the office that day almost back to normal. He mixes the spine work with a kind of deep tissue massage (active release therapy) and stretching. That is an awesome combination that is working for me!
He is very knowledgeable about all his techniques and logically explains everything he is doing. He also does a great take in process where he listens to your full story about your back and body to understand your pain.
I feel better every time I walk out of his office.
