Dog friendly, Great food, Good service, Good atmosphere, A huge selection of beer/​sports going on. Eat anything and everything because its all good. Definately Try dipping the fries into a side of their gravy.

My favorite bar-​b-​q joint in southern Cali. The people watching from the counter is awesome. Parking is all over except for prime times. Happy hour starts at 3 and has an amazing selection of craft beers for $ 4. The ribs are succulent and the only time I found them to be less than amazing, I complained to the waitress who sent the owner to us. He apologized and gave us a $ 25 gift card for next time. The onion rings are not the best so stick with the French or Sweet potato fries. You get a heap full. You can also bring your dog.

Stopped in for lunch while visiting ocean beach for the day. Awesome staff with amazing service, delicious beers (I had a local porter that was so good), the bbq sliders (both ham and brisket) were AMAZING, and friendly people all around. I was by myself and had no problem having fun conversations with the people around me. I tried a little Bloody Mary mix and it was so good! Next time I’m back, going to have a Bloody Mary for sure!

I’m new to point Loma, so I’m trying to try all the places here and in ocean beach. My friend and I were wondering around, when a happy hour sign caught our eye and we decided to try it .
The place is very nice, clean, and has a nice area to look out and people watch. It is very much dog friendly. There are a few tvs around the bar and around the restaurant (playing sports).
To order at this place you either go up to the bar or go up to the cashier to place your order and your food is delivered to wherever you sit. You can get take out or dine in. This is a bbq spot, so expect greasy fattening food such as mac and cheese, onion rings, burger, ect. You serve yourself drinks (non alcoholic)
The food was mediocre at best ! I got a combo. Wings with fries and onion rings. My lemon pepper wings were so salty, and so were my fries. My friend got spicy buffalo wings. They were not spicy, and more bbq than buffalo. I didn’t complain too much because the pricing was cheap! My combo was only $ 10.
The service was actually great. A server comes around to ask you what you need and help you order alcoholic drinks if you want to. That was nice. I would probably only return here for drinks .

Wow this is my second time here and it just does not disappoint. I got the bbq chicken plate and got it made spicy ! So good ! Washed it down with a grapefruit sculpin. 5 stars and I’ll be back soon.

This place was so good! And they have a patio for dogs! So convenient when you just come from dog beach, food had lots of flavor and you even get to pick spice level for your sauce! Definite favorite place on the OB strip

I definitely found a baby roach in my food here and got up and walked out. I will be calling the health inspector. Gross.

Absolutely the best barbecue! Everything was delicious! Tender, wonderful pieces of meat. Not only was everything we ordered perfect, the staff was very kind and full of smiles! Thanks for a great meal!

OMG if you’ve never been to the barbecue house you’re definitely missing out. The place is beautiful inside not to mention this is hands-​down the best barbecue that I’ve ever had. we ordered their beef ribs, mashed potatoes from scratch we tried their pulled pork sandwich and their macaroni and cheese was absolutely delicious There sauce is a home run and they have one of the best beer selections I’ve ever seen. Wow! I was blown away how delicious and soft the beef ribs were. They were huge chunks of succulent mouth watering pieces of heaven. I have had so many different beef ribs from various restaurants throughout San Diego and I can say bar-​none this is the absolute best I have ever had.
The service was also superb. The owner came by to say hello and what a great kind man. It reflects on his staff who do an excellent job.

If I could give more stars I totally would. My Fiancé and I were staying in a house in OB and didn’t want to drive. We took a stroll down Newport and found this BBQ place. I was skeptical to eat because I’m so so picking about BBQ but Fiancé wanted to try so we stepped in. The place was packed and I see why. Its a totally casual cool place to chill or hangout plus they have a full bar and the bbq was the BEST I have ever had! The cashier was very helpful in helping us decide what to order and very nice. She was sociable and pleasant. The music and surrounding noise was a little high but once you get yourself a table hearing the person your with isn’t bad. We took a seat in the outside portion of the joint and were very comfortable next to the heater. The bartender came right over asked if we need angry drinks and handed us the price and list of specials. He was not pushy, have is his name and said let me know if you need anything.
The food! Amazing I am such a picky BBQ eater that I just ordered a salad and fried pickles. My Fiancé had the three piece meat deal. So I said hey can I have a taste? Can you say mouth watering. Needless to say he shared the rest of his meal with me. We tried to get back before leaving town but didn’t get a chance. Whether your stopping thru or a local you have to check this place out. You won’t be sorry. Pricing is comparable to other BBQ places. 5 stars on food, atmosphere and service.

Love this place the food is unique it’s not like the rest of the barbecue houses or restaurants that serve BBQ food.
I tried the sausage and roast sub it was good but next time I will try something else just because I know they have something that fits my taste and I’ve been going here for many years. This was the first time I been to the location since the new remodel they had I love how updated it looks more modern it feels compared to how it was previously.
My son got the mac and cheese I ordered a side of barbecue beans both of these sides are amazing I highly recommend them my wife got the sandwich with the pit ham she thought it was okay but she’s not much of a BBQ person but she ended up devouring it.
All the food here is cooked to perfection I’ve been going here since the barbecue house was next to the old movie theater here in Newport when I was a child. I love the food more now then I did back then. This place will be around for many years to come and I highly recommend going here instead of the other highly rated place like Phil’s BBQ because this food is more authentic and taste more like a home style.

I have had their mac and cheese (which isn’t the best in time) and it is gooey enough to smack your lips with alongside that yummy meat. I have had both their pulled pork and tri-​tip sandwiches. I would get both again, easily.
They’re also pretty inexpensive and have a nice little patio you can people watch from.

Absolutly amazing BBQ joint. Beach location even better. Beats Phills IMO as they never have the crazy stupid line of tourists every night and all weekend. The family feast (the bigger one) is the way to go with parties of 4 plus people. You get to sample all the major players of the menu. It took them maybe 15 minutes tops from order time to plating it on our table and for all we got that was quick! We dined at 715 on a Monday night and found the joint decently busy but not packed by any means. The front desk host/​cashier was super kind, very informed and well versed with all menu details and options. Felt very welcomed there the entire visit. I was most impressed with the hot links and the pulled pork. Something just did it for me with those two items.
I am more of a dry rub BBQ fan myself vs sweet and spicy sauces on my meats and this place put all our sauce on the side so we could choose to use it or not. Way cool! The corn bread here is on point as well! I love cornbread like nothing else so I judge hard to! Same goes for sweet fries. None of the frozen bag crap many places zap and serve. These were legit and had a garlic-​parm seasoned salt on them as well… loved it! Pork ribs good, fall off the bone tender. Lemon pepper chicken wings rival those of BW3 or Hooters easy.
I rank these guys up in my top 3 BBQ joints ever tried in the now 4 states I have lived in. Go try them out and see for yourself!

Great place! Excellent service and delicious BBQ. Kid friendly, they went out of their way to turn the heaters on so we could sit outside with our kiddo. Don’t miss this place!

Having just come from the south on a business trip, I was disheartened to realize San Diego’s limited options when it came to BBQ. Tonight was my night! I didn’t realize BBQ House existed in my own neighborhood of OB! I enjoyed the beef brisket plate with Mac and cheese and French fries, I know,
A lot of carbs but I couldn’t resist! I sampled all of their sauces but specifically enjoyed the spicy (I like it espicy) BBQ sauce. All phenomenal at a great value and felt like I was back in the south, but better, because I was home in S D! The only thing that could possibly top the food was the service I had from the bartender, Caitlyn??. Was able to take our orders for both food and drinks while taking care of the bar by herself on a busy Friday night! I will definitely be back! (Sooner than later)

I walked in begrudgingly as my friends just wanted something to eat and I thought to myself San Diego has no good BBQ.
I was wrong. I enjoyed Barbeque House tremendously! The rib sandwich I ordered ($ 5) was chopped rib meat topped with their delicious (though slightly sweet) sauce. My friend’s brisket sandwich was fall-​off-​the-​bone meat and my wife’s burger was a delicious (though a little fatty) evenly cooked piece of meat topped with all the pickles she wanted. To top it off, the home cooked kettle chips were great and their fries were above average though a bit too salty.
Atmosphere was great — open air seating, tons of tvs from every angle, and friendly and helpful service. I would be willing to go back.

Food was outstanding, I got the ribs, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. Stick to your rib, comfort food… was the perfect hangover cure. Got the medium sauce on the ribs, great combinaton and the ribs were pull apart tender.
Talked with the bartender a bit about different IPA’s, had a wealth of knowledge and also let me try out a couple samples. I decided to go with the Mosaic.
During the meal, the chef/​cook came out and asked how our food was, appreciate going the extra mile. Overall, great interactions with staff, awesome food, will definitely come back and recommend to others!

This place is admittedly a dive when you walk in, but the food is SOOOOO GOOOOD!!! OB is also not the best place to take your family for a stroll down Newport with the whole OB homeless vibe but this place is worth it all. I always get the Southern Style 2 meat combo and it is ridiculously good. My wife and kids love it too. We mix the 2 sauces they have of BBQ and Spicy to make a great BBQ sauce blend with a little kick. The family that owns and runs it are always so nice too that we always have to stop and get some lunch here whenever we are in the area.

Came here with a friend yesterday and the food was soooo good! I ordered a bbq sandwich with the pulled pork! The beans were great as well!!! I havent had barbecue this great in years!!!

Holy FFAAAWWWWKKKK. This bbq is so freaking good. I highly recommend the bbq burrito. You will now be disappointed. Cool staff. Very friendly and helpful. And again great fucking bbq.

I wish I could give more stars! Huge fan of the pulled pork, always my go to, this past tues I tried the tacos, which came highly recommended. Best choice ever, basically my new fav fish taco! So delicious with such flavor that all the ingredients are like an amazing explosion in your mouth. The bbq taco was so incredible, again the ingredients different than the fish taco, but compliment the meat so perfect. Definitely my new fav taco spot, and I’m super picky about my fish and tacos!

Awesome sauce! Try the beef brisket! You can’t go wrong. Great place to watch sports and right in heart of OB community. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite little spots in San Diego.
I usually do my best to visit any time I’m in town, but the last few times it had been closed for remodeling.
So you can only imagine how excited I was when last I was around they were open!
The place is at least twice as big as it used to be, and now has a bar. It was as delicious as ever, and I can’t recommend it more.
Even my Texan-​raised girlfriend gave the BBQ beef (what I got) her stamp of approval, and that is a hard stamp to get indeed.
I love it. Never change.

I absolutely love this place now! There was this server, whose name I’ve forgotten, who gave my friend and I horrible service, bad attitude and whatnot.
But I decided to give the place another shot, cause I’m a strong believer of second chances, and my new bartender, Claire was absolutely fabulous! She was very attentive, and always checking up on us. The place was super busy, but she went out of her way to make our experience a better one. And since then, we’ve been coming in every week! Great beer, great service, what else can you ask for?!

The bbq is great, and I love the remodel, they have a good beer selection and great happy hour $ 2 wells. My only problem was the bartending I ordered a drink and wanted to cash out right away, but the bartender was too busy talking to one of her coworkers about how drunk she was at a party, super unprofessional… It took me five minutes of standing there and another employee to ask me if I needed help to pay. I asked the bartender to make me a well speciality drink and it took ger awhile to think about it… Nothing annoys me more than an unprofessional bartender.

Never disappoints. Always on point with the flavor and portion =). Thw ribs and wings taste soo good. After returning to this location after the renovation is alot better. More tvs to watch the games. Plenty of seating inside and out. Everytime i come to san diego this is the first place we go to before anything :) wish there was more locations like this. Will always recommend this place to fix that bbq urges =D

Update: sadly, I can no longer recommend. The good veggie dogs were replaced with a generic version. Last time I went the bun was hard and stale. In the approx. five times I have ordered they have never ONCE gotten correct the toppings I have ordered (it’s your job!). They have replaced wait staff with order when you walk in, so my drink and food both came before anything came for my companion. In fact, her food came before her drink because they were out of that beer and no one bothered to tell anyone (wouldn’t happen if you had a server for the table).
Finally, last time I walked by their chalkboard had insulting jokes about vegetarians. You want to make fun of me? Ok, I will take my business (and my omnivore friends) elsewhere.

I live really close so you think that I had got here by now but from the outside it looks like one of those places that have passable food. That was before the remodel. I ended up going here because they had a Groupon. The food was absolutely amazing for the price. And very good even without the price as any consideration. I’m not saying that I’m cheap but if I pay $ 40 for a rack of ribs they better be good. I don’t remember how much a rack of ribs is here but I remember that the portions were huge and the price was very reasonable. If I am just walking by I frequently grab a sloppy Joe. Amazing, cheap and not overly filling. Perfect meal. Plus I think they have a full bar now. I know they have tons of beers but I think I heard they got a full liquor license. Great ambience great food and it’s in OB.

You know one of the best ways to see how good a restaurant’s food is? See how it stands up when you have it for take out/​delivery. And BBQ House passes this test with flying colors!
I had Postmates deliver a variety of their BBQ and without a doubt, their beef ribs, pork ribs and BBQ chicken are outstanding! The St. Louis style pork ribs were so tender the meat practically fell off the bone. The beef ribs were massive and delicious both the first night and when I had it for dinner the next day. The chicken was also perfectly cooked and not dry at all.
As for their sides, the Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes were excellent. As was the potato salad I had to accompany the next day’s lunch of leftovers.
I have had BBQ all over the country — Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee, etc. — and BBQ House can definitely hold its own. Huge thumbs up!!!

Changed a lot in the past few months. They doubled the size and have a bar now. Food hasn’t changed. Still the best. Had a southern pulled pork sandwich. Mm mm. Extra sides, as usual. Love the place. Very friendly smiling folks and patrons.
Extremely dog friendly, as is just about everyplace in OB. Dogs actually sitting upright on bar stools. Only in OB!

Ok the drive from LA was well worth it! Brought in the family to try this place out. We ordered the family meal! 3 adults and 2 kids and we still had left overs to take home !! Great atmosphere walking distance from the beach! Loved their bbq and the fact that this place has been family owned and run for as long as I can remember! Hands down the best BBQ in town!!!

Came here after a pedicure for a quick lunch.
Wasn’t bad. Hit the spot, but nothing to write home about. Got mac n cheese with a pulled pork sandwich. Additional sauces were good on the sandwich as it was a little dry.
The mac n cheese wasn’t really rave worthy. Tasted like it was out of a can.
Guy next to me thought it would be fun to do a fire ball shot and a lot of it got on me. But that’s nothing to do with the food, just a db that got lost in OB. :)

Not sure how credible my vegetarian review is, but I totally loved this place! My boyfriend got the tri-​tip plate with 2 sides, mashed potatoes and the mac n cheese. So, I carbed out on sides and wasn’t super starving so didn’t try the veggie burger, although I can’t wait to! Anyway, the mashed potatoes had great flavor and lots of pepper which I love — I’m sure the gravy was awesome but with the BBQ sauce was perfect! However, they were almost a little too smooth for me, strangely — I like a little more texture in my potatoes. The mac n cheese was worth a 2 hour run to burn it off! Suuuuuuuuuper sticky, creamy, and ugh. Just delicious. My boyfriend loved the sides as well and really enjoyed his tri tip. It looked pretty fatty to me, which I’m not sure if that is normal for tri tip or not.
The BBQ sauce is nearly perfect for me. It has just a hint of sweetness and so far is the best I’ve tried in SD. Nice that there is the option of mild, medium, and spicy.
Best part? $ 8 for the meal. Also, you order as soon as you get in which I like, so you can just relax at the outside counter overlooking Newport.

It’s great to see that the small, mom-​n-​pop style place has turned into this big, busy, BBQ joint!
There is outdoor and indoor seating. There are big screen TVs and lots of craft beer.
My group of 4 decided to get the family meal for $ 56. It came with ribs, wings, roast, bbq chicken, sausage, corn bread, and 4 sides (we went with mashed potatoes, potato salad, and jalapeño poppers). It was a ton of food, and we had enough leftovers for all 4 of us to have another meal. I think you could easily feed 6 people with this meal, making it really a great value.
Everything was delicious. The BBQ was sweet (vs. vinegary). (If I had to pick our least favorite item, however, it was the chicken, which was a little dry.) But we loved everything else. I’m always a sucker for potato salad and it was darn good. I’m a fan of this place! It’s a great addition to O.B., has tasty BBQ, beer, and a fun atmosphere.

I’m always on the hunt for a good veggie burger. Something simple, lettuce pickle, onion. To curb my longing for a burger. BBQ did a good job! Plus it was cooked properly, it wasn’t over cooked and hard and it wasn’t greasy. Clearly the person who prepared it did not cook in a pool of beef grease!
The other thing that I can happily comment on is my service. David was very accommodating and nice and easy to talk to. All of the best qualities in a server. He made an excellent and helpful suggestion about beer, so knowledgeable as well.
