Standard bar food and pretty good drinks. The service was really good in the location is pretty convenient. The great place to go before seeing a show at the Balboa theatre!

My wife and I really love this place. The beer selection is good, the food is good and the service is good. It’s a great place to watch sports, tons of TVs and the horseshoe bar is huge. Plenty of tall tables as well. I wish they would bring back the pozole, I loved it. The calamari is good too. The dressing on the coleslaw that comes with the calamari should be the dipping sauce. I’ve only had appetizers so far, but they’ve all been really good.

I came here with some friends and the experiences was just OK. You can sit at the bar and the bartenders were really nice and knowledgeable about what they were serving. However the reason we were at the bar was because the hostess said it would be 10 – 15 min before we could get a table and offered us to go sit at the bar while we waited. Next thing I see there’s 2 other parties going in to tables that got there after us and 40 min had gone by. We asked the hostess what was going on and she said she was working on it. Her demeanor and customer services needs work. We finally got a table. They did make a mistake on our bill and charged one of my friends cards with the total check even though we had already paid with other cards and cash. So that was a bummer.

I like this place, and have been here several times with completely satisfactory experiences. The food is fine, the beer selection is very good, but the service is the variable. On a bad night, it took at least 20 minutes to get a beer, and I witnessed at least 3 customers leaving because they were ignored by bar staff. Not maliciously, just because they were swamped(even though it wasn’t really that busy.) Staff is friendly(when they get to you), and the downtown location is convenient for the many hotels in the area, as well as the bus and trolley.

Just trying to get an idea of this place’s identity. I don’t know if it’s a sports bar, a restaurant, or a brewery. It’s probably a combination of all those things. I just hope that was the intention. Their beer selection is alright. The first one I ordered was shortly followed by our server returning and informing us that particular beer was tapped out. I just went ahead and ordered something else that also seemed interesting. And I know its namesake may suggest this is a mecca in San Diego’s ever-growing beer community, but in all honesty, I haven’t heard of such reputation yet. So, that’s an ever-changing aspect I’ll leave alone for now. I came here with an online deal, and we were able to order a bit more than normal. I had a steak for my meal, and it was pretty good. Not the perfect steak, of course, but then again, we’re not at Donovan’s or Ruth’s Chris, so I knew what I was getting myself into. I suppose that’s my way of saying that the food is fairly standard, but definitely more positive than negative. Parking: I would go with either of the two structures across from each other on 6th between E and Broadway. Flat fees for each, always the same price. They’re probably owned by the same people, so it’s all a matter of preference. I would say that if it wasn’t for Unilocal and Opentable, I would never even know about this place, not even from walking by it. If someone I know wanted to go somewhere in downtown SD and didn’t want to meet at one of those super fancy expensive restaurants, this place would be on the list of casual spots that aren’t so tiny and ridiculous. I’m due for another visit. I mean, after all, I’ve only been here once. Let’s hope they have the beer I really wanted. But no matter what, I’ll look to enjoy this place again.

Came in here after a chargers game. Great menu. Dimly lit. Fast service. Lots of seating options. Friendly staff. Parking was a bit of a struggle, there is a lot across the street I believe it was cheap but the lot was busy. The great review is for the waitress as we needed a phone charger and she provided us with her personal iPhone charger which we were able to use at our booth, since there was a wall outlet. We loved our waitress and she saved us from a dead phone and no GPS back to Orange County. Will definitely visit this restaurant again next time we are down in SD

I went here for lunch on a Thursday. The food isn’t anything special, a little better than basic bar food. I got the grilled cheese and fries, it was pretty standard. My co-worker got one of the soups and loved it. Their onion rings are delicious! Service was okay, a little slow with our waitress, but the other employees seemed to be pretty on point.

The service here is not great. I want to say it was understaffed, but it wasn’t even a busy night. When we got there, we were told to seat ourselves and waited about 15min just for someone to give us the menu. We got a happy hour menu of a pitcher of beer and pizza. The bartender brought us our pitcher with no glasses. We had to wait another 10 min to get his attention to get glasses. The pizza was ok. The beer was good.

Literally sitting in the restaurant right now with my husband, been here for exactly 24 minutes and have had NO service. Hostess was nice but waiters have walked past us so many times, not been greeted. I worked in a restaurant for 3 years and we were REQUIRED to greet a table within 3 minutes of being seated. We agreed if we got to 30 minutes with no service we will leave, 5 more minutes. It seems like owners or managers don’t respond to reviews, which is a shame because constructive criticism can be very helpful for a business. I was excited to have a beer and a burger, doesn’t look like that will be happening for us tonight.

Came here on Thursday night and they had really good drink specials. 5 dollar mules and margaritas as well as reasonable food prices considering you’re in downtown. I only ordered mules which were really good probably up there with the best. They have really nice TVs and they’ll change the channel to whatever station you want. I will come back here for the drink special since I love mules and probably to catch a game.

Bottom Line: Beer and average pub food served at the corner of Broadway and 6th. There isn’t anything too special about Beer Co. but if you want a tasty draft beer and some junk food to compliment it, this place will fit the bill. As far as bar food goes, the Pretzel sticks and Santa Fe Rolls get my vote but I don’t think a foodie will be wowed by this menu. The staff here was ok. We called in an order for takeout but the person taking orders wasn’t familiar with the menu and wasn’t sure what we’re were attempting to order(appetizer combo platter and pretzel sticks). So after that failed attempt we went in and ordered at the bar and luckily the bartender was familiar with the menu and immediately knew what we wanted. Oddly, the Padres were playing at that time but were not even on the TV; instead, some other random MLB game was on(Mariners v. Astros, I think) which seemed odd but they did change the channel when the Pads fans asked. Overall, I think this is a decent place to stop in out of convenience but not a destination.

Came here for the happy hour to meet some friends. Located in the heart of downtown. Easy to find but essentially all parking is pay. Walk in and it looks like just about any other beer/sports bar and there are many in this area. They have a taco bar on Tuesdays and tacos are $ 2 each so I figured I would try an assortment When you go to the taco bar there is someone to take your ticket. You tell them what kind of meat you want and they will serve it up on a hot corn tortilla. I ordered one carne asada, one chicken and one carnitas. The amount of meat they give is pretty generous. From here you’re on your own. There are many toppings to choose from: cheese, lettuce, cabbage, chopped tomatoes, and jalapeños to name just a few. And they have several salsas/hot sauces to choose from. While the corn tortillas were hot and fresh and the meat plentiful, the taste was rather bland. The chicken wasn’t bad but there was nothing to the carne asada. The carnitas looked good but just lacked really any flavor. Many of the people around us had ordered other food and it looked like typical bar food. It’s a nice place with plenty of screens to watch your favorite sporting event and the seating is comfortable. They even have an area that overlooks the rest of the bar for private events that’s really roomy. And they have plenty of local beers on tap. Great place if you are holding a private event but overall just average when it comes to the food.

I really enjoyed my time here. It has a fun laid back atmosphere, and maybe we just came at a good time, but the service was really good. They have a fair variety of beers, but pretty much anywhere with a good soft pretzel and beer wins my heart over.

My wife and I were on vacation and walking around downtown. She saw this place and knew I would like it. Guess what? She was right! We sat at a high table amongst the many huge TVs and I immediately ordered their house made IPA. Really tasty! Our server was super cool and happily subbed a veggie burger for a regular burger on their burger and beer $ 11 special. I chose their pale ale for that pairing. Another stellar brew! I subbed a salad for the fries and it was spectacular! Fresh lettuce and blue cheese. Nothing special on the dressing, but a fantastic start. The veggie burger was clearly premodern, but it was fine. Fresh bun and solid toppings. A great first lunch in paradise.
