Amazing! Wanted something special for breakfast so picked up a cinnamon bun and scone to go. The line was slow, but so well worth it! Delicious! Highly recommend.

This place is amazing! The smell of fresh bread alone makes you want to just camp here. I don’t know why I haven’t reviews this place but better late than never. Stayed in SD for a wedding. The next day when I checked out of the hotel, I was feeling a little hungry so looked on Unilocal and this was the place that stood out to me. It was pretty easy to find but it was packed. Ordered the Turkey Cobb sandwich with no mayo and iced tea. Got my turkey Cobb and wow the fresh bread alone, then the roasted tomatoes were so sweet and delicious they matched so well with the Gorgonzola cheese they put on it. I swear I still think about this sandwich every time I have a turkey sandwich elsewhere. I cleaned off my plate for sure and thought of ordering another one to go but I didn’t. It was tempting though. That’s how good and fresh it was. I didn’t order any dessert but they all looked great! By the way, a small stroll will take you to NTC– Old barracks that were converted into art studios. A project the company I worked for did in this community. So relax, have a nice lunch here and stroll around.

Stopped by for a quick breakfast on way to airport. Nice area and space to get a quick bite and last bit of sunshine before heading back to winter. Coffee was excellent and chocolate and cinnamon pastry superb. I also grabbed some delicious granola to go. My only complaint is that I was looking for an egg or other breakfast sandwich and didn’t see them on the menu. So this isn’t the place to go if you are looking for a more substantial breakfast. I noticed a bike sharing stand nearby if you are out for a ride.

Just finished my sandwich and already can’t wait to come back! The freshly baked breads they have to offer are nothing short of amazing, unbelievable, and beautiful! I was expecting my sandwich to be toasted/hard to eat(you know how that goes sometimes), but NO! The bread is so soft and fresh that it makes the sandwich melt in your mouth. I tried the turkey Cobb and was hesitant about the Gorgonzola, but after the extremely nice(and patient) cashier offered to have it light on the sandwich, I’m SOGLAD I went with it. So fresh, so filling, so perfect. Again, can’t wait to come back!

a good friend took us to this place bragging about his favorite sandwich ever! and all 6 of us loved it!!! turkey Cobb!!! :) sweet turkey, crispy bacon, avocado, Gorgonzola cheese, basil pesto, roasted tomatoes on Rosemary olive oil bread… i could eat one everyday. pro tip: he called our order ahead and when we got there we were able to just go up and pay(and skip the crazy long line!!) menu is so big and fun and there’s something here everyone will love. I really appreciate that they put water out for self serve !! I recommend sitting in the outside patio on a beautiful day :)

If the long line of hungry eager costumers doesn’t tip you off that this place is special, the tasteful patio and quant ambiance will. I would suggest the Turkey Cobb Sandwich!!! Wonder combination of rosemary olive oil flavors and savory bacon with turkey. Each flavor acts as a compliment to the next, and it creates a succulent medley that is moist and delicious.

Bread is probably one of my favorite foods. I have been looking for a good bread bakery and I saw this place and had to stop by. I bought 3 loaves of bread and the savory bread platter. All of the breads were wonderful. The sourdough baguette was amazing. Crusty on the outside and soft and chewy with great air pockets on the inside. The raisin hazelnut bread was great and pairs great with the goat cheese it came with. I ordered a loaf of the French Country bread and it was wonderful. Even the next day nice and crusty on the outside and super soft on the inside. The pain de campagne is not very crusty but full of flavor and very soft and tasty. My husband loved the rosemary bread and ate all of it. Every bread we tried was great. I will definitely be back for this amazing bread. Also you cannot beat the price for fresh bread. Much better than the grocery store.

My order: ½ Turkey Cobb on sourdough + Orange Sugar Bun + Chai Latte PROS: — The sandwich was filling and delicious. The orange sugar bun was fluffy and not overly sweet. The chai latte was steeped with a bag of tea and was topped off with foam. — They have a display of bread and other baked goods that are very eye appealing. They have many choices to choose from — something for everyone. Certain types of bread are made on a certain day of the week. — Plenty of parking. Two entrances. Indoor and outdoor seating areas. — Prices are reasonable. Friendly service. CONS: — No wifi! Study groups with laptops beware. My favorite item I ordered was the orange sugar bun and I’ll be coming back for more. Next time, I’ll be trying out the cinnamon buns and café latte.

A friend has been raving that con pane rustic has the best sandwiches in town. As I have been to many sandwich places it was hard for me to take his word because hi I’m a Unilocaler and I’m sure I would have heard of this place and would have already been there done that. But damn I was off my game. Finally made a visit and damn he was right. Not only do they deliver in the sandwich, they make their own bread, it’s fresh, they have sweets for sale, and also have a damn good sandwich. At this visit I came for a late lunch and ordered the turkey Cobb sandwich on sourdough(full order). Large and moist bread slices, and generous with the turkey, avocado, and bacon. Did I mention the bread was fresh? The crumbled Gorgonzola and sundried tomatoes just elevate the flavor as well. Not your typical sandwich that is smothered with mayo, but you can ask for more if you like, but it’s just as good without feeling gluttonous. Think artisan sandwich flavor and ingredients but without the small artisan portion. I was also hoping to get a brioche cinnamon bun but came too late and it was sold out. The two words I absolutely hate. Sold out?! What. I wasn’t warned about this. Will definitely need to have that in the list for the next early visit.

This review is not a reflection on their bread, but it does disappoint me nonetheless. I go out of my way to come here just for the butterscotch latte(large, 1 shot, extra butterscotch). I usually get 2 at once(just for me) they’re that yummy. I always have to wait in a long line. Fine. And even to make the coffee it’s a 15 – 20 min wait after paying. Fine. What’s not fine is the girl just came up to me after all this wait to tell me that the cashier didn’t charge me for the extra butterscotch and that if I wanted it I’d have to give her another $ 1. Really?

I dig the Con Pan Rustica(in my head that is what I call it). Turkey cobb(on any of their breads) is a pretty amazing start to your day, especially paired with a big latte. There is always a line to order and sometimes an unofficial line or a table, but good things usually come to those who are patient. So if you need a place to people watch, grade or read a paper(my case), or just unwind, you’ve found it – this is the place!

I have tried several of their sandwiches and while I always enjoy the flavor, the breads are frequently too hard for my jaw to handle. The times I tried these my friend chose the bread so maybe she just prefers the thick chewy kind? Yesterday when I happened to be driving right by here I decided that a good loaf of sourdough would go well with my lobster bisque. So glad I acted on my whim as It was an exceptional loaf of bread… very fresh and the perfect crisp on the outside but soft in the middle. They slice it there if you want and it was only $ 3.45. I’m definitely now a fan and now I know that sourdough is what I want for my next sandwich.

I had the best sandwich from the café today! I had the roast beef on Rosemary bread; the bread was soft and fluffy with a nice hard crust, and the roast beef was flavorful and about an inch + thick, and then there was lettuce, tomato, red onions, mayo and the avocado slices I asked to be added – it was so thick I had to stretch my mouth wide to bite into it! Yum! My husband had the Italian salami on Kawabata olive bread; again, huge and full of fresh, delicious ingredients! And the iced tea had a delicious delicate apricot flavor… so good! Service was quick and very friendly, and there’s plenty of comfy outdoor seating so you can enjoy our beautiful weather while enjoying a great sandwich! We didn’t try the pastries, but they looked fresh and inviting – we’ll be back to try those for breakfast very soon!

Con Pane is the place to go if you are looking for speciality sandwiches, amazing bread, and tasty pastries. I’ve taken multiple people to this place and every single one of them loved it. Their bread is made fresh daily and is so good. My favorite is the kalamata olive bread, it’s extremely moist from the olive oil in it and the olives are quality! My go to sandwich order is the Italian, the salami is great. This last time I went I also got a Nutella/nut croissant and it was so good I ate it in about a minute flat! This place can get busy during lunch time so phone in your order if you’re in a rush! Con pane is great for breakfast or lunch. Their prices are good and their service is helpful and friendly. There’s always parking available around the restaurant which is nice to not have to worry about.

San Diegan’s seem to think Bread & Cie is the end all be all of bakeries. And I used to agree. That is until I visited Con Pane a few years ago. Now I can never look back. Their bread is fresh. Like really freaking fresh! The inside is melt-in-your-mouth soft with a slight yeasty taste while the crust is more flavorful and crunchier than other bakeries. It’s easily the best bread I’ve ever had. My mouth may or may not be watering as I type this. In terms of varieties, Con Pane has a lot– rosemary olive oil(my favorite!), french baguettes, multi-grain, sourdough, ciabatta, kalamata olive, chocolate, you name it… the list goes on and on. Besides loaves of bread, Con Pane also has a café serving sandwiches. Their sandwiches are huge and use quality ingredients. My favorite is the turkey cobb. The meat is thick sliced, roma tomatoes are flavorful, gorgonzola cheese is fresh and pungent and you have a choice of putting it on any of their varieties of bread. Make sure you get one of their fabulous chocolate chip cookies to accompany it. And maybe a cinnamon roll or two to take home. Do yourself a favor and drive here now. It’s 100 percent worth it.

I’ve tried the almost grilled cheese, turkey cobb sandwich, vegetarian cobb sandwich, seasoned roast beef sandwich, chocolate bread, multigrain bread, cinnamon rolls, apricot and ginger scone. The best sandwiches are the turkey cobb and the seasoned roast beef. Almost grilled cheese is quite good but I prefer the cheese to be melted. The vegetarian cobb tastes really strange because it combines sundried tomatoes, mung bean sprouts, and blue cheese. The mix just doesn’t work. The chocolate bread is divine and the multigrain tastes great. Con Pane breads tend to have a chewier crust and a very soft inside compared to the other gourmet bakeries in San Diego. Cinnamon rolls were overrated. I found them too dense and«bread-y.» The scone was also extremely dry and was only saved after another stint in the oven at home. In sum, I would stick with the turkey cobb or roast beef sandwiches and any of the breads.

The sandwiches certainly are tasty — and large — but the wait is a bit ridiculous. Of course, that could have been on us. We did stop in around noon on a Saturday, so while I did expect a line, I didn’t expect a line that went clear on out the door. People left as we stood there, not wanting to wait half an hour for a sandwich. I’m glad we stayed, though if we go back, I’ll try to time it to not be at the lunch or dinner hour. While we stood in line, we looked at the racks of to-go bread that you can buy, zoned out on the menu board, stared hard at the sandwiches that were being brought out to the many people in the dining room… and then zoned out on the menu board again, checked our phones, fingered our navels and made friends with the people behind us. I kid you not — the wait was insane. I went with the Seasoned Roast Beef sandwich(being a sucker for anything with goat cheese on it) on the rosemary olive oil bread. The hubs went with the Turkey Cobb on the olive bread. We both decided to go with the whole sandwich, thinking we were starving and that we’d polish off the whole thing with no trouble. Turns out I was wrong. Well, I was wrong about me. I was only able to finish half of my sandwich — the hubs made short work of his. The sandwiches were well-crafted, and they used some good, high-quality ingredients in them. They weren’t shy about piling on the goat cheese, which I appreciate. The bread was soft, yet held up under all the ingredients, and had a nice crunchy — but not too crunchy — crust that added a good bit of texture to the sandwich. The best thing about the sandwich, though, was that it made two meals for me. I took the second half with me to work the following Monday, and even though it had sat in a Ziploc bag in my fridge for a day, the bread was still soft — a bit moist, maybe, but not soggy — and the ingredients were still flavorful. I’m glad I went with the whole version of the sandwich, as I was able to get two meals out of it. Again, I did enjoy the food. I do want to go back, and I absolutely want to try some of their sweet options, as well. I just need to figure out the best time to stop by, because that wait? Not fun.

On the way to the airport, I thought I’d drop by for a quick breakfast here. I’ve been before for a late lunch, and thought the sandwiches were great(San Diego isn’t known for their breads, like San Francisco, but this place delivers!) I really wanted something eggy with cheese and a great big slice of sourdough to blow my low-carb diet for the week. No go though… As they only serve the sweet-stuff(what looks like a killer cinnamon roll, cookies, etc). I settle on a Chocolate Brioche Twist and a cup of Café au Lait. The twist is incredible! The café is great. Here’s the rundown: Satisfied? Yes(but no eggs here!) Return? Yes(they’re the only place with decent bread in SD!) Advocate? Sure…

At work I’m known for making epic sandwiches and during lunch time, you bet my colleagues often drool over my creations as I carefully handcraft my masterpieces. My secret– It all starts with the bread. EVERY delicious sammy starts with a solid base, the foundation of your crown jewel. I have my local bakery in Orange County that I frequent, but this past Memorial Day weekend my boyfriend and I stayed in San Diego for a mini getaway. I decided to pick up a loaf from Con Pane before heading back to the OC as the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. However, before investing in a whole loaf, my boyfriend and I decided to split a whole Seasoned Roast Beef sammy on Rosemary and Olive Oil to test out the bread. Boy! was it somthun’! The fluffy and airyness of the bread was a perfect base for the savory roast beef and potent goat cheese spread. My boyfriend even mentioned that«he would definitely want to come back here again» which is a huuuuuge compliment since he rarely voices his opinion on restaurants. It definitely passed my bread test and bought a whole loaf of it freshly sliced to go. It’ll now be a go-to treat for me when I’m in SD. PS. The vicinity is spacious and also dog-friendly as well! Great place for locals and foodie tourists alike! Fresh bread, fresh bread! :D
