The best place to launch a boat into the water is Dana Landing Boat Ramp in Mission Bay. Even though it is small with only 4 ramps, it is open 24 hours a day. It is busy but not hectic and rushed-like Shelter Island is or full of noisy hobby planes buzzing around like South Shores Park on Sea World Drive. Remember: San Diego Launch Ramps are all tidal ramps. This means that the water level’s fluctuate with the tides. It is important to pay attention to tidal charts to know ideal times and tides to pull the boats in or out. You don’t want to mess with your truck trying to retrieve or launch your vessel in low tide conditions! Not a good idea. When my dad would haul our family boat out of Seaforth for repairs or road trips, it would always go right back in at Dana Landing. What’s nice is that the Dana on Mission Bay and their Marina’s are right next door. On the other side of the Launch is The Dana Landing Market and Fuel Dock, They have recently been remodeled and also sell bait. Nearby also are some well-maintained public restrooms and a bike and walking path that circles around under the Ingraham Street Bridge and ends up over near the Hyatt Hotel. If you want to hit up Mission Bay boating, then this is the Launch for you!
