Working my way down Convoy, I stopped in here. I was more interested in the sushi menu than the Korean options. The sushi was better than I expected. The sushi combo was pretty good. Service was decent. Staff pretty friendly. Atmosphere is good. The night I stopped in, it was pretty quiet. The place almost looked dead. They have a lot of dividers between the tables so it is hard to tell if the place is packed or not. I was not sure it was open because I could not see anyone when I walked in. I was not even sure where the hostess bar was.

One of the best meals/service I’ve ever had! Everything was fresh and tasted great. Everything came out in timely order. No complaints.

I came here while they were offering 50% off sushi. I’m not sure if they offer that anymore. But while i was here the portions were a little small and the service was very slow. Took nearly 30 mintues to get our order in and another 30 minutes to get our food. I guess you pay what you get for. The sushi was a bit mediocre, but you can’t beat 50% off sushi!

Had a good experience and enjoyed the food. It’s in the plaza with spicy city and Jeong won. Prices are fair for sushi. I ordered salmon sashimi and halibut. It was fresh and prepared really well, I especially enjoyed the salmon. In my opinion paying $ 12 for sashimi is pretty fair, I got like. 9 pieces? Really good. The service was good, I am not Korean but the waitress was very sweet to me and checked up a bit on me. Not overbearing, but really friendly. The layout of the restaurant is good for groups and gives you private dividers between tables as well as a call button for the waitstaff to your table. Would definitely like to come and try more of their sushi.

What a nifty little place for a strip mall(doesn’t it seem like those are the best places?). The dining area is divided into private little areas that are separated with blinds that can be raised for larger parties. There are coat hooks in each area and even little buttons you can push for summoning the server like you’re on an airplane! How cool is that? No more jumping up and down frantically waving your hands trying to get their attention. I had the kimchi hot pot bibimbob which was HUGE. I was wondering why it cost more than other places I’ve been. As usual I got told I needed to stir up my dish. As usual I had to explain I like waiting till the bottom forms crusty bits like a good paella. It was super tasty! My partner had the spicy tofu with seafood. He must have liked it because the bowl didn’t need washing by the time he was done with it. Prices are pretty average I think. $ 20 for two people and a healthy chunk of food seems reasonable. Side note: the barley water was iced… weird.

Randomly came here one night because we wanted to try a new restaurant. Inside is a bit tight with small narrow hallways but private tables separated by dividers. We were seated immediately. They have quite a variety of choices like ramen, udon, sushi, rice plates, appetizers, and drinks. FOOD: Baked Lobster Roll $ 13 — Rice was soft. Sauce on top was very flavorful. You can definitely taste all the crab and lobster. Seafood Udon $ 6.95 — Soup flavor was ok, not anything unique. There was barely any seafood. Real disappointment. Just small pieces of squid and mussels. There was more pieces of carrots and zuchinni. Meh. Seafood Bibimbap $ 8.95 — Once again, very little seafood topped with roe on a large bed of veggies and rice. It tasted ok. Hot Tea — Just a bag of tea in a hot cup of water Overall, this place had nothing special. I was not at all impressed by the food. I guess that’s why the prices are a bit cheaper. Not coming back.

Eh. I didn’t agree with the reviews for this place. They seemed to either really love it or really hate it. Had a meeting scheduled at this location so it was fun to try a new Korean joint in San Diego. It left little impression on me and I doubt I would return. Located in a small strip mall behind China Max, it’s not too difficult to find. Parking in this lot is atrocious. Many spots to pick from but they are all very small and will leave you worried about some one dinging the car. This place is featured for their sushi. but the prices were definitely on the high side. I had hehdopbap(sushi mixed rice) and the dish didn’t quite appeal to me. Service wasn’t too bad. but for the prices and the items that I saw, I was less than impressed. Perhaps I need to return and really try the sushi rolls and sashimi.

My first reaction upon walking in: way to name a Korean-operated Japanese restaurant after a highly contested pile of rocks in the middle of the ocean. Second reaction: Hey, at least it’s got a romantic vibe. The banchan to begin the meal was mostly miss with the kimchi seemingly not very fresh. We then ordered the one sushi roll that didn’t have avocado. Which I hate. Come at me, bro! It was passable if not entirely memorable. The«entrée» was the best part of the meal; I ordered the tonkatsu, which had an interesting lighter, flakier breading. Maybe it’s a secret Korean style? Summary: Like a Korean version of stone soup, Dokdo Sushi successfully captures the romance and flavor of rocks.

This review is on their sashimi combo and nothing else: WATTUPKOREAN-SUSHIJOINT! There are over a billion sushi places in San Diego, all full of their«creative» rolls, but what about real sushi? How about sashimi? How about grilled fish and good, spicy soups to wash it all down? Yup, they got it. I’m a LA girl(have I mentioned that before a million times?), and up in my old hood, we had combos that feed two for $ 60, and these combos would include: a giant plate of sashimi(yellowtail, tuna, salmon, halibut, uni, abalone), grilled mackeral, a bunch of seafood sides, and a spicy cod soup at the end. So, I can’t expect that much here in SD. But, here I got all that, sans uni and abalone, for $ 80. Meh, I guess that’ll work. Although I’ve been spoiled in LA, I gotta say that this place came pretty close to all the goodies that I’ve been used to! I’ll be back!

I can’t believe this beautiful little hole-in-the wall exists! And that no one, among all my foodie intelligentsia friends, has ever mentioned it to me. The entire restaurant has gorgeous, private Japanese-style booth seating enclosed with curtains so you have complete privacy with your dining companion(s). This, plus an amazing value and plenty of choices across the Asian food spectrum: sushi, sashimi, ramen, hot Japanese dishes, and Korean(bimbimbop)! The food is stellar cheap! The specialty rolls were all around $ 9. I wasn’t expecting much, but the size, taste, and freshness were very good. It was like Sushi Deli prices but better quality and a bit more food. My dining companion(a repeat Dok Do customer) and I had the awesome roll, and it was absolutely delicious and moist. The ramen is only $ 7.50 and served in huge bowls with great ingredients. The tonkatsu was amazing(though a bit on the salty side) and I loved the toppings — bamboo shoots, wood ear, sweet corn. The soft-boiled egg though was way over cooked, essentially hard boiled so you didn’t have that gooey yellow yolk that really makes ramen good. I would be scared to try to eat here during peak hours because there’s not a lot of seating, but we were seated right away at 8pm on a Saturday night(luck?).

I was pleasantly surprised! First of all, the service was very good! Our waitress sat us down right away and catered to our drinks fast. When we wanted to order sushi, she told us that they weren’t doing sushi because of their wait for a chef, but they let us order sushi anyway! So since the chef wasn’t around, I was a little apprehensive that the sushi wasn’t going to be great, but it was delicious! my boyfriend and I got the Sexy Roll and the Cherry Blossom Roll and both were well crafted and tasteful! It doesn’t stop there! We were staaaarving, so my boyfriend got some shoyu ramen, which was so-so, but I got a beef bibimbop lunch special that was excellent and HUGE! We didn’t spend much for what we got and that was a big plus! So from looking at other reviews, it seems that you just need to be tactful in what your order here! Glad our visit wasn’t a bummer like others!

I love the service and the well priced sushi. It’s not Sushi Ota, however, we enjoy the atmosphere &50% menu. We have been going here for over 4 years and love the simplicity and deliciousness of the food.

My friend and I ended up coming here because Jeong Won and Spicy City were both way too crowded, and we were too hungry too wait. We made a mistake in coming here, this restaurant is definitely more of a drinking than eating kind of establishment. We ordered the seafood ddukbokki and grilled salmon. The seafood ddukbokki came in a large looking pan, but it is actually not very much food at all. The grilled salmon was even worse for $ 14 it came with 5 measly looking pieces of salmon. The salmon was ¼ inch thin, and as large as a dollar bill. We didn’t order the sushi. but we should have, since we barely had enough food at all. The waitresses were really nice and friendly. Probably not coming here again, unless I am coerced by friends.

My friend was hungry and literally walked into the first place that looked like they were having a deal. Apparently 50% off sushi signs work really well towards people like him haha. I think this is like a Korean/Sushi fusion? I’m not sure. I wasn’t too hungry so me and my BF share a half off roll. Very limited choices. I honestly don’t remember what we got, but it was just okay. Definitely not my first choice for sushi. The service was kind of spotty and they didn’t give up half off on our half off sushi. They fixed it when we told them though. Overall, the place was alright but I think I rather go to a Korean place or a Japanese place for what I really want.

I come here often with my friends because their sushi are a pretty decent price. My favorite has probably got to be the baked lobster roll($ 8). It does take a while to come out though. As far as the other cut rolls and hand rolls go, everything seems pretty standard. One complain: They are so incredibly STINGY with their spicy mayo sauce. I don’t understand why? They’ll give you a big bowl with very little sauce in it. Or you also have to specify that you want«X» amount of the spicy mayo sauce, or they will just come back with ONE for your entire party –___-« I remember this one time when I came here with my friends, a male waiter was bringing us our rolls. I’m not really sure what happened, he must have slipped or something but 2 – 3 of the cut rolls ended up falling flat to the ground… haha. I could tell he was a bit nervous and didn’t really know what to do. He apologized, but that was it. Really??? Here’s a lesson: DON’T BEAFRAIDTOSPEAKUP! YOU’RETHEPAYINGCUSTOMER. After he came back, I asked him if he could perhaps give us a discount on our bill for the rolls that were dropped. He said that he would go and talk to the chef. After talking to the chef, he came back and told us that he will bring us the rolls. My friends and I expected him to come back with 3 of the cut rolls that were dropped, but instead, he gave us an entire cut roll(about 8 pieces)! ;] I recently found out they had a $ 15 per person all-you-can-drink deal. If you can drink, this wouldn’t be a bad place to go to! I’ll come back to Dok Do Sushi. Their sushi is pretty good but service is not always consistent.

Didn’t try the food but 4 of us did the $ 15 all-you-can-drink special which includes beer, soju(not the flavored kind) and maccoli. There’s a 2 ½ hour time limit but that was plenty of time and I think we got a great deal. I thought our service was fine but don’t know if it was because we had a Korean speaker with us.

I came here long time ago and they stuck us in this obscure, hidden seat. I don’t remember the food, I just remember feeling claustrophobic. Fast forward to now and I want udon but I don’t want to drive far. So we come here. They must have remodeled the place or rearranged the chairs because our booth was clean and comfortable. My nabeyaki udon was a bit more chicken-soupy than udon-y. Meaning, it lacked the deep, long-boiled broth taste that makes you say, «ahhhhhh» with the first sip; it didn’t warm me up enough. I recognize that it does have chicken in it but I came to eat udon, not chicken soup. But this dish is abundant with veggies and tofu so that gets a plus(to be fair, I had been craving udon for a long time so their udon was subject to high standards). We also shared the spicy tuna roll and several nigiri that were very fresh. So I might just come for the sushi next time. I am reading the other reviews and I see that there are many complaints about the service. I guess management addressed this problem because our servers were SO attentive. I don’t think the servers are assigned sections so we had two servers who was checking up on us constantly. Caveat for wine lovers: they chill their red wine.
