Got the beef wrap… Either not cooked enough or just didn’t taste good… The soda was watered down too. My friend got The chicken wrap and that one was pretty good tho.

Just ok, in a pinch would eat here again. Would never go out of my way to come here. I got the beef/lamb doner. Was slightly dry, was wrapped in a tortilla. like a mission tortilla… need I say more. If you are going to use tortillas in San Diego they better be fresh!

Got the Lamb/beef Wrap combo, thought It was gonna be a little cheaper, it came to $ 13.50, not expensive but you know. Once I got my wrap and took the first bite I immediately felt the sauce and the juicy meat, it was wonderful, in my mind I apologized to the God of kebabs for judging too soon, the wrap was delicious, better than the pita or platter version. It is the one to get. The combo includes fries and drink. I did not finish those because the size of the wrap was plenty, even had some trouble finishing it, and I can eat! It really is 4.5 out of 5, does not get the perfect score only because the place was dirty and smelled really bad. I’m 90% sure none of my friends farted. But who knows maybe that’s the Turkish charm cause I’m definitely coming back

My son and I were coming from serving with Urban Angels at the Salvation Army over the holidays. He’s an athlete an opts for bowls filled with rice /meat /protein. We were walking along in the Gas Lamp District and saw the chef cutting thin strips of meat through the window. The aroma was enticing, too. Anyway, he got a BIG bowl of grilled meat, rice and a wrap to go with it. I got a huge chicken wrap. Moist, tasty, spiced just right. The service was awesome. The ambience is quaint and friendly. We search this place out every time we’re in town for a Padre’s game, to visit or to just go to the district to eat.

Amazing! Best kebab in the gaslamp, hands down. Ask for lemon which doesn’t come standard.

Get the lamb beef wrap. It’s definitely better than Kebab Shop. The meat is extra juicy and melts in your mouth. The red sauce is extra spicy and melts your face. But in a good way. You’ll want to finish the whole wrap but be warned you’ll probably regret it afterwards. They give you way more food than is probably necessary. The place is kind of a hole in a wall but I suppose it’s nice to know that your money is going towards the food and not rent. The pita isn’t that much food, and the chicken and rice is sub par taste-wise.

I walked from my hotel to try this place out based on the rave reviews and the pictures. I have to admit this is more 3.5 than 3, but was disappointed in my meal. Pros: 1 star-The beef/lamb meat was tasty. Tender and flavorful it hit the spot. 1 star-The service was great. Very friendly, efficient and with a smile! 1 star-The spicy sauce is spicy and has a nice kick to it. I asked for some in my to go order and I ended up smearing it all over my food and mixed it with my hummus. 1 star– The prices are reasonable, especially for the downtown/Gaslamp district. Cons: (-)1 star– The plate was disappointing. The elements sounded good but the actual plate did not meet my expectations. I’ve had Mediterranean in many cities and multiple eateries in my travels and this was not very impressive. My veggie side consisted of some over cooked potatoes and carrots. No flavor. My bulgar also was flavorless. I had hoped it would be good stand in for the traditional rice pilaf I’m used to, but it was«meh» not a compliment to the meat(which was delicious). The salad was a pile of romaine lettuce, no sauce or other vegetables. My side of hummus also didn’t come with at least a single piece of pita! Usually when you buy hummus it comes with pita, but perhaps because this was a side serving it didn’t include a piece? In the end I ate the meat, smeared spicy sauce and my side of hummus over it and supplemented with some crackers I had. I would say it’s a good option if you’re getting a pita sandwich, or the«box”(which is meat on top of fries). I went with the plate thinking veggies and a salad would be healthy and tasty but wish I had gone for the fried goodness instead! Also make sure to ask for yogurt and spicy sauce they seem to forget it if you don’t remind them.

Good quick stop for a bite to eat. The kabob was good. Lots of fresh veggies on the pita. The chicken kabob was equally as good. If our walking by and hungry give it a try. The price was not horribly expensive for downtown San Diego. I would recommend it for anyone looking for lunch.

LOVE this place! Everything is finger licking good! The chicken is the best I’ve had in San Diego! So tender and flavorful! The chicken pita was delicious. Loved the chicken and the pita was very fresh and pillowy. The white sauce they put on it is so good! Yum! The wraps are gigantic and hit the spot. The fries are fresh and taste freshly cut(not the frozen variety). I will definitely be back!

This place was walking distance to our hotel, since we wanted a quick early dinner bite, we opted for the chicken wrap(we came back later that night to get the gyro). Great service, the lady taking our order offered us cups for water and offered to split the wrap. And we were glad she did, that wrap was huge! I would opt for the sauces on the side next time though, it became too rich for me. Pretty fast service, probably because there wasn’t a long line, delicious bites, would come back again. Yum!

No complaints. I had a bit if something hard in the meat once, but I really don’t care. The food was plentiful and delecious! For $ 7 I was filled to the brim!

Stayed at a hotel nearby, and this was around the corner. I was craving for something healthy, but it was not actually super healthy. I would stick to the hummus plate if you’re looking to eat more clean. Chicken doner box: 2.5÷5 generous portion with lots of chicken, but overloaded with sauce. Strangely. it was still bland… I wonder what is in that sauce. Hummus plate: 3.5÷5 pretty good and tasty – i like this one the best out of the two dishes. The staff was very friendly, and we were able to get our food/drinks fairly quickly.(We were the only ones there, so the wait was about 5 minutes.)

The cashier was rushing me and no one was behind me. They forget my side order and the done sucked. Sorry I hate to be that person to leave this kind of review but this place sucks. From the diner to the servoce. I’d walk an extra 5 miles just to avoid this place and get real food. The only good thing about this place is the sauce The sauce tastes like it was homemade, other than that don’t go here. Waste of time.

It is very, very, exceptionally rare that I find myself in a position where I need to update a review for the worst, but having now had Doner Mediterranean Grill twice since first giving my 5 star review roughly a year ago, they’ve severely disappointed both times. To compound the issue, I’ve discovered«The Kebab Shop» nearby( ), which, plain and simple, offers better kebabs. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The service and atmosphere are one two things(along with the price), that are unchanged from my initial review. First and foremost, kudos to Doner Mediterranean Grill for having hours that can cater to the late night crowd. I mean, you can only stomach(literally) waiting in line for a crappy piece of pizza so many weekends in a row no? While DMG can get crowded, the service is generally snappy, and the servers are responsive to special requests. No complaints here. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Yes, the doner wraps in particular are still just a few coins shy of $ 10, but I should emphasize here that these are absolutely massive: larger than any I can remember having in the past. The doner wraps are easily two meals packaged into one, and during one of my more recent visits my kebab was easily the size of two Chipotle burritos. Something can be expensive but still be packed full of value, and that’s very much the case here. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I don’t know what’s gone wrong over the course of the past year, but the quality of the kebabs here at Doner Mediterranean Grill have suffered tremendously. My first visit back I got a chicken doner wrap because they were out of beef. No problem, but when I took a bite? Problem. The meat was painfully dry, the chili and yogurt sauces barely sprinkled on, and the onions disgustingly overpowering to the detriment of the entire wrap. I didn’t even finish it. My second visit back I went for a mixed wrap with both chicken and lamb meat, hoping that my previous experience was a fluke. It wasn’t. While I opted to skip the onions, the meats were still painfully dry and flavorless, and the sauces were once again barely spread inside the wrap. I finished slightly less than half before giving up and chucking my nearly $ 10 doner wrap. During my first visit, the meats were succulent, the sauces liberally applied, and the dressings complimentary instead of detrimental. How I long for those days. No Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? The Kebab Shop mentioned previously isn’t open as late, but they dish up a superior product that’s worth waiting for. I have no doubt I’ll be back to reevaluate DMG, but in the meantime I can’t recommend it. No Star Granted.

The two spits of chicken and lamb/beef definitely catch your eye as you come near the shop. This is a solid Mediterranean spot and while I can’t say it is a great value, you do get a good amount of food and it is decent quality. FOOD I ended up with a plate of salad with a good amount of both the chicken and the lamb/beef. I first tasted the yogurt sauce alone and was not too sold on it. However, once I tossed all three sauces onto my plate, the combination was very tasty. I do wish i had tasted my food without the sauces to compare though. SERVICE No problems. Friendly, efficient. PARKING Well, I walked here. If I had to guess, it looks like parking could be hit or miss. I was here during Comic Con though, and the difference is night and day.

I am a frequent visitor to the Kebab Shop, so decided to branch out(a little) and try this new place. It was relatively late for dinner, so options were limited anyways. I really very much had an intense desire to try the lamb/beef wrap, which is what I normally get at the lovely Kebab Shop. Unfortunately the rest of downtown San Diego also wanted lamb/beef, so they were out. Grudgingly I settled for falafel. The cashier/chef was very wry, and in my tired state, his humor was a little over my head. Not meaning to say anything negatively of him, he probably just thought I was an idiot by my inability to pick up on his jokes. The wait was relatively long, but worth it. The falafel was perfectly seasoned, and not greasy at all. I wasn’t really paying attention to the other insides of the wrap, but I think there was squash, onions, and some other veggies. Initially I thought Doner and the Kebab Shop would be relatively indistinguishable, but such was not the case. Everything was so fresh and seemed(?) healthy. Basically, I really enjoyed the food even though it was not what I wanted, and the conversation I had with the funny man uplifted my tired and hangry mood.

All out of falafel at 12 how so? So we opted for chicken. It was good. Some of the chicken pieces were a little dry, but overall good. I got the platter that comes with veggies, bulgar and a salad. I liked the red onions that go with the salad. I actually preferred it with the chicken than the salad. A little disappointed witht the veggies, because it was mostly potatoes and a few zucchini pieces. Price is pretty good for a pretty plentiful platter($ 9). It’s a small store front with limited seating inside. Not sure how busy it gets on a typical day, but on a Saturday it wasn’t packed so we were able to get a seat with ease. The staff was friendly and took time to explain the menu, but again maybe because they weren’t packed. But no falafel kind of disappointed about that one. Oh well. Next time I’m in town and need a quick bite that is decent and not expensive I’ll be sure to return.

I had a half chicken half beef pita. It was ok I wasn’t too impressed. The beef had nice flavor but I felt the chicken was very bland the fries were ik as well. I think I could have appreciated it a little more of I hadn’t of juSt came back from Germany a few months back when we speak of a doner I think of Germany and always expect the same style but it isn’t and I just compare the two. So I guess it was good for what is was but to me It was horrible compared to Germany. I will not be going back.

YES! Hell YES, I have FINALLY found the best Doner there is in the US! I really never thought anything would be as flavorful and authentic here until I came to Doner Grill, excellent location right in Gaslamp. Open till 3 am it is the perfect pre or post drinking snack/meal After trying both the beef and chicken I was so in love with both I had a mix of each. They offer two types of bread, I went with the wrap, my husband one of each, oone with each meat. He usually never enjoys chicken and beef is his constant go to, so him liking it means a lot. The tortilla is much larger than the wrap and for $ 1 more well worth it if you are super hungry. The fries also excellent, get both the red and white spread and every veggie they offer. Best meal I have had in San Diego to date, cheap as well at round $ 6 a sandwich. I cannot wait to be back, amazing!!!
