Food is good. Don’t come in at 9 in the morning. They took 25 minutes for a breakfast burrito.

A lot of food for the money. Big portions. The fish burrito has 3 pieces of fish. Everything we ordered so far has been excellent and fresh. The Spanish rice is the best I’ve ever had at a taco shop. Salsa bar(Chips, salsa, cucumbers, carrots, etc) are all included with your order at no extra charge. It is a «hole in the wall» but don’t judge it by looks the food is awesome!

I’ve been here a couple of times and I usually get their surf N turf burrito. Definitely worth it and I recommend it. I’ve also tried their breakfast burrito which had carne asada, eggs and potatoes. They offer a good salsa bar along with their food and their prices are very affordable. If you’re in the neighborhood and looking for good Mexican food, I highly recommend this place.

This place is a hidden gem. We have several Mexican spots we go to on a weekly basis and this place is definitely one of them. We usually order Del Mar and Surf & Turf burrito w/Adobada. Food is simple and straightforward and that’s why we like it here. Their salsa bar is awesome too, plus the free chips! Why pay for chips elsewhere when you can get it here for free?! Service is not the best and that’s okay. So far, our orders have been spot on — no complaints there. We were a little bummed out because the shrimps they put in their burrito has gotten smaller. But all is good, food wise — I’m still a fan!

Gigantic burritos for only $ 5.50. I had both the carnitas and carne asada burrito. While the flavors are good, I found the meat and tortilla to be too dry. I stopped by around 8PM, so no one was there– maybe that’s why? One thing is for sure though, I love their guacamole. I’d probably go back just to get chips and guac or something…

Gualberto’s Mexican Food located in convenient shopping center on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. affordable prices, large portions, and fresh quality vegetables and ingredients. I ordered a veggie burrito. They also offer the popular California burrito. The service was great and I loved the salsa & hot veggies bar. It’s a bit warm inside, but they have outdoor seating which I sat at. The only downside is that this parking lot is always full.

Service is meh. Young girl at the register tends to forget my orders and doesn’t know how to be professional, but you cant expect much at a Mexican Shop. BUT at least I can say that they have good food. They offer FREE tortilla chips that are FRESHLY made daily! Usually when I go, the bucket is empty but you can simply ask them for chips and they will be gladly to refill it for you to grab! I usually get the super quesadillas. The super quesadillas only come with cheese, sour cream, guacamole and a side of beans but at least its a big portion size of everything. I always ask for lettuce in mines too. Overall, their food is fresh and delicious. Just need to work on their service.

Not impressed. We ordered a bean and cheese burrito and rolled tacos w/cheese and guacamole. How can you really mess up a bean and cheese? Well they did. The beans were very runny and tasted watered down, and the cheese was cold inside and not melted. My rolled tacos were over fried to the point they looked kinda brown. They tasted like oil, that’s it. All I could taste was oil, and OLD oil at that. The meat inside had no flavor at all. In fact if I couldn’t see the meat I’d even say they didn’t have any. I couldn’t even taste the guacamole either. I used to work in this area about 5 yrs ago and came for lunch several times a week, but they lost their touch and just aren’t good anymore… Not even for a taco shop.

Call me a scared y cat… Call me unadventurous… Call me cautious, wary, hesitant, boring, careful… I don’t care what you call me… BUT… Rarely if ever do I eat at a taco shop that I haven’t been to before… rarely… I will drive to my staple places from 30+ miles away, just to be sure I KNOW what I am getting…(I have had some VERY bad experiences at taco shops with their beef that have made me a little manic about this…) I strayed. I deviated. I tried something…(wait for it…) new… AND I LIVEDTOTELLABOUTIT!!! The good: –complimentary chips and salsa while you wait. CHACHING! –quick as a lick on a stick! –friendly counter girl and smiling/singing cooks!(arriba arriba!) –no issue with substituting potatoes in my cali with french fries! SCORE! –a good flavor carne(shakes with fear) and overall flavor of the food. WHAT!!! Seriously. STOKED! –Close to work –less than $ 6.00! The not so good but not terrible: –strip mall taco shop… –salsa wasn’t as hot as I would have liked. ALL in all I was glad to have stopped!

Tried this spot out for lunch today when I was getting my car worked on. The price for the food here is definitely friendly on the wallet. The quality is very good as well. My fail safe California burrito came out with fresh carne asada and fries. It was very good. Don’t expect much ambiance here as it is a basic taco shop. You eat quick and leave or take out your food. Parking in this plaza can be a challenge during high peak lunch hours or the weekend. I’d recommend the street parking if there’s no more spaces.

Ive been coming to this establishment for years. I initially stopped in by accident after visiting Fan Diego. I was hungry and went«next door». This has since become my favorite Mexican restaurant EVER. Their people are friendly, courteous. Their food consistently good, fairly priced and I love their salsa bar with pickled carrots and with endless chips. Ive used them to cater a football party I had, ordered the food, picked it up and it was a hit! I have brought number of friends here, and many speak of it months later. My favorite is the Pastor Tacos and Burritos,…yum!

This place has a really generic sign and doesn’t stick out when driving past it, but I noticed it one day when driving around this area for work. Located near the 163 freeway off Clairemont, its hard to believe there are 3 other places like this, since this one is so small. When entering the restaurant, the cook in the back acknowledged me by saying hello, very friendly guy. First thing I noticed was the salsa bar( ) which encompassed one green sauce, two red, cucumbers, limes, carrots and peppers. Everything from this salsa bar tasted great, and they even give you little plastic bags so you can take all you want. They also give you a paper bag and let you grab free chips( ) which sits right next to the salsa area. We decided on some guacamole( ) to go with the chips, which was fairly cheap compared to most places, only $ 2.50 for a larger container. The guacamole was really damn good too, lots of avocado chunks. I was really in the mood for a carne asada burrito, when I noticed their«SUPERCARNEASADABURRITO» on the menu. Had to give this burrito a shot. The burrito( ) when unwrapped was massive and super packed with stuff. It came with meat, cheese, sour cream, salsa and guac( ). Everything inside tasted great together, and the meat was seasoned very well and split up into perfect sized cuts. Overall, it was a damn good burrito, very worth the price. Another thing that stood out on their menu was their super quesadillas, I ordered the chicken chipotle one( ) and it was suppose to come with guac and sour cream, but upon my arrival home, I discovered they forgot it, whoops. The quesadilla was cheesey, and had plenty of chipotle sauce. The shredded chicken they used however didn’t taste the best, it was the let down of the meal. This place has some hit and miss items, the chips were kinda stale tasting and the shredded chicken wasn’t too pleasing. The prices were pretty reasonable, especially for their sides of guacamole.

The pozole is my favorite. My mom loves their caldo de pollo and calde de rez. Portions are big so you get your money’s worth. Fast service and it tastes homemade. I’ve had the fish taco combo. That was pretty good too.

Even though the cashier was incompetent and was confused about everything I said, this place has some great tacos. I ordered one carnitas and one carne asada taco. The cashier looked at me and repeated my order as if I walked inside asking to order orange chicken and chow mein from him. Anyways, their tacos are great! Oh and MASSIVE!!! I preferred the carnitas over the carne asada but the carne was very delicious as well. If you’re around the area and want some good tacos from a taqueria, come here.

Since I can’t leav ZERO stars, I am forced to give one. I can’t believe they can’t do ½ portions of Carne Asada Fries or nachos. I called in and the customer service over the phone was not too great as well. I work on the phone all day, so I know the importance of it. Anyway, service made me not even try their food. Not coming here again.

2.5 stars I took on a new role at work and for good or bad, we now have an hour lunch. I decided I wanted to try a new taco shop around there and read the reviews on Gualbertos. I decided to grab a carnitas burrito. Total was $ 5.50. This thing was heavy as hell and the carnitas was good… not La Fachada good, but still good. This thing had guacamole and pico de gallo in it too but it almost detracted from the burrito. The guacamole was plentiful but it didn’t taste like anything? It was weird. A lot of people were in and out while I was there waiting for my burrito. They have a «free chips» area but they were out when I got there and they never refilled them. Maybe they only make a certain amount for the day? I started getting anxious too while waiting in there. Bad vibes or something. Will I be back? Maybe but probably not. If I was absolutely craving carnitas and needed some near work, I would come back. Other than that, there are better taco shops nearby.

The best carnitas in the area. I come here for one reason, and one reason only, their carnitas burrito. They cook their carnitas low and slow, and you can tell in the tenderness, juiciness, and overall flavor of the pork. They stuff them to SD standard size(one will satisfy most people) and they have a salsa bar that is as good as most in the area. While not my number 1 mexican fast food joint, its a close second as being part hawaiian, there is very few things i enjoy more than pork done right.

Ok this is a generous 3 star. I am on the verge of dropping it to two. However this is just about the only place I could find that had a reasonable price on street tacos. They sold 4 tacos for $ 5 but you are only allowed 2 types of meat! WTH!!! Kinda shady IMHO. None the less I did 2 carne asada and 2 al pastor. I also got red sauce on the side. That turned out to be a wise decision. The red sauce was kinda bland and had zero kick IMHO. The al pastor was pre cooked and then quickly reheated on the grill. I have had it this way and its never as good as the alternatives. This time it was partially burnt(not from the reheating). At least it wasnt dry. The carne asada was pretty bland as many places seem to like cooking it this way, I however am a flavor seeker and it was missing here. PROTIP: Easy freeway access so you can get in and out quickly as its just a couple blocks off of the freeway. Well the good news about this place is the tacos werent miniature street tacos but they were standard sized small corn tortillas. So they were a bit larger than the typical street tacos. So for a $ 1.25 each that is a good deal. I wont be back, partially because I am rarely in SD and mostly because I was less than impressed to say the least.
