I just love this place! The staff is friendly, the drinks and food are fantastic! All for a very reasonable price. We were there on Tiki Tuesday and I’m sure to be back.

A little crowded and had a hard time finding seating. Otherwise huge selection of craft brews and deals on appetizers. The chicken nachos were huge. I like local bars, so I enjoyed the atmosphere here. Also great place to catch games. The ladies room was a little divey but not unexpected in small bars.

Got a very nice message from Ingrid after my last review; she pointed out they have a new chef now. Haven’t had a chance to get back to High Dive until recently. We came in on Wednesday for lunch. Hoped to see the Hawaiian Burger on the menu again, but no such luck. We each ordered The High Dive; mine w/Mushrooms for a buck extra. They were cooked exactly as ordered; rare and med-rare. My burger had a normal size bottom bun and a small top bun. His had a normal sized top bun and a small bottom bun. Like someone ran out of regular buns and tried to sneak in a little bun by splitting the difference. I would have overlooked it if the bun hadn’t been stale. Clever, but no cigar. While the burger patties were much fresher tasting than last time’s unhappy experience, we just aren’t fans of the kind of burger meat used here. The fries were excellent though and I love the Black Pepper Ketchup that came with them. The service was good and attentive. Two waters and two burgers w/fries came to $ 29… add to that the tip and we are at $ 35. I understand the price of everything has gone up(as well as the minimum wage). Still… pretty pricey for two burger plates. I wanted to up my review from three to four stars… and I would have… but… with the stale, tiny-bun switcheroo(even tho it made me laugh)… and the just so-so meat patty… we are still stuck at three stars. Which is not a bad thing, since 3 stars is still A-OK.

Been a fan since this place came to Bay Park, but last weekend when we came for lunch, sadly disappointed. Service is always Superb, but I do not want to pay 13 $ for a burger with a stale bun. Hubby“s torta was also not worth $$. With more competition in the neighborhood, they will hold on to their regulars only if they pay attention to the little details.

Great food, service, and drinks. Kat was our server and bartender. She’s amazing with great recommendations. Very attentive and much appreciated. I’ll be back once I’m in town! Recommend the breakfast of champions(ask for their homemade jam) and the island mai tai.

I am sad to reduce my rating but of late, the High Dive food quality has been inconsistent. During our recent visit, we found that the pancakes and hash browns were cold. I had a greasy omelet curling /browning at the edges. Gross! Their beer selection continues to be excellent. And it still has its character. And the staff are wonderful, as usual. So go for a drink, not for a meal.

Love, LOVE the selection of current beers and they also tell you what will be on tap in the future. The staff are at the top of their game, super friendly and know their beer. A great bar with a beachy/neighborhood pub feel. The flavors of my French Drip were mouth watering and my aus jus was warm/hot. And the french fries yummmm, have those crisp little edges that crunch when you bite down. Be prepared to talk a little louder than usual, the noise level is kinda high. Look no further for your local pub!

Hands down my favorite bar I’ve ever been to. I’m traveling on business and wanted a place close to my hotel but had an atmosphere. I didn’t want a touristy location where families come in by the mini van. I wanted a place with good beer and great food. I found it! As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by a «Welcome!» shout from the staff! No matter what they are doing or who they were talking to, they welcome you. You immediately feel like you’re in the right place. I sat at the bar and ordered a San Diego Brewer beer while looking over the menu. Just as I opened the menu one of the bartenders(Ken) asked me if I was hungry. I said yes, he told me he would be right back and would help me choose what to get. He wasn’t even the bartender that got me my drink and he was ready to help me! I ended up getting the chicken tacos from the appetizer menu. Unless you have five people with you, they are not appetizers! I got the small portion and took half of it home. My food came out quick and it was so good! Filling and great flavor! The price was right on point too. The amount of food I got was awesome! Traveling alone can be a little lonely but I had a great time. I talked to the bartenders and some of the other patrons. Everybody was laughing and having a great time. The place has an awesome décor and the music was exactly what I prefer. If I had this bar in my city I would be there every night! I felt so welcomed! I will never visit San Diego and not stop in!

Ballast Point Brewery(did anyone else read that they sold to a powerhouse beer company for like $ 1B dollars) participated with High Dive Bar and Grill for San Diego’s beer week recently. Ballast Point would release, in limited quantities for that one night, 23+ new craft beers for crazy enthusiast fans to try out. I don’t drink beers as often as I should but how could I not find at least one beer out of the twenty one that I’d like. So we met 9 friends that night to try out Ballast Point Tap Takeover at High Dive Bar and Grill. I had called the bar a week in advance to find out the details of the event(the guys made me do it). There was a different set up this year though. The 23 beers would be released in hour increments so that everyone could get a chance to try out most of the beers before they’re gone. Smart move on the bar as it almost forces you to stay until 8p in order to try the last 6 new releases. We ordered(food wise): — Giant Authentic German Pretzel: I had read the pretzel here at High Dive Bar and Grill rocks the house. It is, indeed, pretty big and comes out hot. We LOVED this pretzel. It had the perfect crisp salty exterior and a nice steamy soft interior. I didn’t even use any of the three sauces that came with this pretzel. — High Dive Nachos: Some of the tortilla chips were burnt on the tips but the nachos were pretty good regardless. I think the group added carnitas(+$ 2) to the chips — Piggys In A Blanket: This was a tough appetizer as it was just too fatty. The bacon was wrapped around, what tasted like, pure belly fat(with no meat). The pineapple glaze was great though. — Chorizo Potato Ballz : Tablemate ordered this and said he liked them. — Gorgonzola Fries: I just realized how many carbs were ingested that evening. I didn’t try this especially after friend joked ‘yeah it smells like sweaty socks but tastes so good’. — Chicago Beef Sandwich: Friend shared this with his brother as a mid event snack. It was a hefty size sandwich but a bit soggy from the jus(which the boys said was fine by them). But they both agreed the meat tasted way too salty for this Chicago Beef sandwich. We pretty much were able to try 95% of the Ballast beers that night between all of us. Friends wanted to point out that the bar/Ballast only poured ½ pints of each new release beer that evening. And, um, for $ 6 bucks. SIX. DOLLARS. For half a pint. Yikes. Compare that to $ 5 pours for an entire pint at Ballast Point Brewery in Scripps Ranch. I don’t fault High Dive Bar and Grill for the $ 6 cost but understand the hype and business behind this much anticipated tap takeoever event. Ken, our server, was the man. He was beyond swamped with eager customers but always had a positive fun attitude. We felt like the nerd elementary school kids wanting the cool kid(that would be Ken) to be our friend. He was *that* genuine and awesome. I will say that I enjoyed the food here at High Dive Bar and Grill more so than I did the food that’s offered at Ballast Point(Miramar). There’s limited parking here but there appears to be decent street parking nearby. I think we’d visit High Dive Bar and Grill if we were in the area. Their Sunday brunch menu looks interesting so that might be worth a try when the Chargers lose again in the upcoming weeks. I wish I had something clever to end with after that last depressing sarcastic sentence but I don’t.

We stopped here as a small group, after volunteering downtown one Friday. It was a hot day, middle of the afternoon, but they were doing a brisk business. We snagged a table near the patio, which afforded us a nice breeze and a great place from which to people watch. Our waitress was super friendly and patient, but not exactly fast. We were on a bit of a tight timeline, after all, but we couldn’t get her to move any faster. We decided to share an order of nachos to start, and then three of them ordered variations of the Philly cheese steak, while I ordered the blackened fish sandwich. We really did not need the sandwiches, not once the nachos were delivered. They were huge! Even with four people sharing. They were piled high with meat, cheese, sour cream, beans, guacamole and salsa. Delicious! The sandwiches all came with(wonderful) fries, but again, it was way too much food. My sandwich was good, but I gave up on the bread after a few bites, focusing on the fish and fries instead. They were both very good. This is one of those places that we drive by all the time, but probably never would have tried had it not been for my group. I’d like to go back again, at some point.

The Higdive is everything you want in a local bar. Strong drinks, quality beer selection, good food and friendly service. These are the basics that make for a fun place to hunker down for a few. Check out their specials. Wed night is great for pizza.

Food: I had some buffalo wings that costed me $ 9.50 for about 10 and they came with celery and carrot sticks. The outside of the wings had a good crisp texture and once your teeth sink through the outside, juicy tender chicken meets your mouth for a great flavor with the buffalo wing sauce. Pretty decent wings that don’t blow your tastebuds out of the park. The wings are smaller in size. The celery that they gave me was pretty much all ends with the leaves on them, so I didn’t eat any. I also tried their fries and nachos. Both came with a lot of each and the flavor was also average. Service: amazing and attentive. It must be a pain to deal with large parties, so I give props to servers. He was always filling up waters and beers for anyone who needed them. He was courteous and asking if we wanted to order any more food multiple times. Staff was quick to clear plates as well. Atmosphere: there are lots of TVs around the entire bar. The TVs are a little small depending on where you are sitting. They have a Jukebox and ok speakers. It was extremely stuffy in there the night we went in. A few people in our party were sweating and they were just sitting there. I frequently had to walk outside for fresh air and it was even raining outside. No ventilation in here at all. Lighting is very dark and red. You cannot see the real color of your food because everything has a red light shining on it. They have a few pinball machines you cal play. The bathrooms were bathrooms. I kind of got a biker bar feeling here, but it’s not really a biker bar bc there was only one motorcycle parked outside. They have daily food specials. Parking: very poor parking in this area. There are only a few spots in the bar parking lot and the rest is street parking in the neighborhood surrounding which are slim pickings even in a Tuesday night. They have a lot of beer on tap to choose from. The outdoor section was closed off for a portion of the night for a private party, but it was small. Definitely get a dive bar feel here and is perfect if that is what you are used to or comfortable with. I may be back to give their burgers a try.

I’m pretty darn lucky to have the High Dive as my neighborhood bar. When we moved to the area, I didn’t know much about this joint, but after hearing so many good things, I felt pretty lucky to be so close. Lucky, and maybe a little dangerous– I might just move in to the High Dive. For one– they always have a GREAT selection of beers on tap. I love that they always have great Ballast Point beers available(You know I loooovvvveeeee me some Ballast Point!) If I feel like a need a lil end-of –the-day-drink, I usually come here, park my butt up at the bar, and enjoy a nice cold beer. OOORRR if I want to get a really strong buzz on, I head over for their mai tais. 2 of those puppies and I’m done! Not only do they have great beers, and strong drinks, they have really good food too! The burgers are really popular here and if you look around, you can spot a few tables chowing down on those delicious things. BUT– they also have really good appetizers, daily food specials, and salads– yes, salads. The décor is awesome too. There’s tap handles all over the ceiling, pin ball games, darts, and TVs for sports games. Overall, the High Dive is solid. I’m ALWAYS in the mood to come here. They do really cool events too, like a darts tournament, Ballast Point tap takeovers, etc. Unlike most places that have a special day during the week, the High Dive has something in store for you EVERYDAY! HAPPYHOUR: Monday — Friday, 3 – 6PM $ 2 off local drafts SUNDAYFUNDAY: 5 – 10PM $ 2 Fish tacos 8AM –1PM $ 10 Bottles of bubbly MARGMONDAY: $ 5 Margaritas all day! $ 2 Street tacos 5 – 10PM TIKITUESDAY: $ 2 off all things tiki! $ 1.50BBQ pulled pork sliders 5 – 10PM WEDNESDAY $ 8 Pizza Night! THURSDAY: Pint Night! Hosted by different breweries every week.(Check the calendar to see which brewery will be hosting!) 6PM –Close $ 2 off all appetizers FRIDAY: Pizza Flauta Friday! SATURDAY: Brunch! $ 10 Bottles of bubbly!

Located off of Morena, I was expecting this place to be a messy dive bar similar to the likes of some of the others on this street, but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the ceiling covered in tap handles and streamers. The atmosphere was fun and casual for a nice weekend brunch. My friends and I all ordered something different off the menu. From the omelette to the huge, fluffy pancakes, everything was really good. I got the chicken fried steak and it was very tasty. It came out a little cold so I was a little disappointed in that, but it was perfectly crispy and the gravy was good! It wasn’t the best brunch I had, but I still enjoyed and appreciated it for what it was. I definitely think that this would be a cool place to come to for a happy hour or late night drink because of the atmosphere.

Yay. The beer is cold. SD sports on TV. I missed out on some pinball gaming, so I gotta come back for that and try some bar snacks. Awesome staff on duty tonight. One highlight of the evening was the clean bathroom. I’m a fan of that. High 5’s to High Dive!
