Two words: potato salad. Hands down the best potato salad that I’ve had in my life. Not a fan of potato salads that have relish or pickles in them. They make it taste sweet, which I hate. No, this one is perfect. Super addicting but super yummy.

Drinks are always good, but the potato salad is the really bland, and they always seem to get my food order wrong.

This review is long overdue! My parents live close to this adorable spot and I had the pleasure of having my baby shower here. I’ve attached pictures of the amazing treats and food that were prepared for us. This location is surrounded by trees and very relaxing. Everything is made with love and the prices are very fair! I have absolutely no complaints and keep coming back here! I recommend trying the pomegranate tea — it’s my favorite!

Don’t come here if you’re in a hurry! Little hippie café/coffee shop. Came here during the week and ordered a sandwich. Took 20 minutes to bring me out my sandwich and they weren’t even busy. People left their plates and trash on tables, while waitstaff walked by and looked at it countless times without picking it up. They were also very snotty. I wouldn’t waste my money here again.

Best coffee and café shop in San Diego… it’s at least in contention with no pretension. Ordered the stellar — walnut fruit bread with stawberries. Nice alternative to French Toast and healthier. House made granola cereal with milk was both tasty and filing. Stop eating starbucks processed pastries, burnt espresso drinks, and overpriced teas and come HERE…, you will thank me in 20 years.

Awesome shop, just don’t like being subject to the second hand smoke from the outdoor seating.

Best place for a sandwich and smoothie. I suggest the UBEHEBE sandwich and a Pineapple, orange and mango smoothie:)

Came with a couple of gf who love this place! Great outdoor seating area/patio with lovely trees enveloping you! I could come just to enjoy some coffee and this awesome little retreat! Smaller indoor seating area but much darker and less appealing than the patio for sure. Tried the Wonchi breakfast egg sandwich, which was ok. Thought it was a little bland and the bagel wasn’t quite as tasty as I’d hoped. Would’ve been nice if the bagel was a bit toasted but still chewy! My gf always gets the Vesuvio and loves it! My other friend tried the vegetarian special which looked delicious! Also had a mocha which was excellent. smooth, great coffee flavor, no bitterness and not too sweet! They also offer several other food items including salads, sandwiches, smoothies, pastries and baked goods. Parking is street but was easy to find. Prices are great! Nice little neighborhood spot with some great coffee, good eats and affordable prices!

My husband and I enjoyed the Traitors head Sandwich and the Stellar breakfast. Phenomenal! Each dish was perfectly proportioned and full of flavor. Tons of meat on the sandwich. The stellar(I believe) consisted of a cranberry walnut toast with cream cheese, fresh sliced strawberries and a perfectly sweet wild flower honey. My first bite was pure heaven. The potato salad is bland and the food took over 20 minutes to get… I would knock it down half a star for that. However, I am so satisfied and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere that it is worth the 5 stars.

Cute little coffee shop. Super friendly staff. Ordered a café au lait and a pomegranate smoothie. Both were ok. Like the atmosphere too.

Really affordable, great food and it has seating in and outside. A place where you can come and get your coffee and just sit outside and work on your laptop(free WiFi) or get a beer and chill on the back part(smoking area). The outside has a nice shade provided by big trees. I really enjoyed this place, I’ll come back to try the smoothies and the rest of the menu.

The best part about this place is the atmosphere: it feels like a tree house, with all the ambiance of a modern café frequented by young people. The food was decent, and the coffee was better. I ordered the Umbuhue sandwich(probably butchered that), which came with a very small scoop of hardly memorable potato salad. The sandwich itself was tasty, turkey with some kind of cranberry jam, which complimented each other nicely. If I were to come here again, I would definitely try the fresh-squeezed OJ. Beyond that, this place had a very long line, and was cash only(maybe their CC system was down?) which is why they get three stars, when they probably deserve four. All in all, I’d say it’s worth it to stop by if you’re in the neighborhood.

I’ve been coming here so recently now and have made it my regular stop to relax, or grab a coffee and sandwich. Atmosphere is pleasant, music seems to change depending on the barista. The Colima sandwich is the only one I get because it is so damn delicious! My wait time is average, they’ve only ever forgotten my coffee once. It always seems to be busy here so the wait time for other people’s orders seems to be long, but again I’ve never really had an issue with it. Patio is nice, the fig tree in the center is awesome. Gives that small coffee house environment vibe, something I enjoy very much. Usually always full so I sit inside frequently. The smoking designated towards the back give people issues because it seems that the flow of air goes right through the portion where non smokers sit. And there is a CONSTANT flow of smokers. I’ve never not seen a smoker out back. Dog friendly is a plus. Lastly, parking isn’t too terrible since it’s right out back, but it’s very limited. I personally haven’t had an issue parking there.

Loved loved loved this place! They have a nice patio covered with trees so you don’t have to bare the sun while enjoying your meal. We went here for breakfast. I got the ELJORULLO. Mouth watering! The avacado was prepared flawlessly. Has a peaceful hipster vibe.

The space alone is worth 4 stars it’s like having your coffee in a tree house what kid/adult wouldn’t love that? You almost have to do a double take or look for the outdoor sign or you end up driving right by this coffee house engulfed by a large tree. It’s right down the street from Turf Supper Club(if u are familiar with their location). A good cup of coffee for under $ 3 I’ll take it and .50 refills I’ll have another cup. Seating is indoor and outdoor WiFi available and outdoor dog friendly as each time I visit I meet a new pooch on the porch. I tried the vegan pumpkin maple donut… because I love some pumpkin and it was soo delish I wanted to just devour it! Along with the donut and coffee I tried one of the breakfast sandwiches and was pleased with that as well. 2 coffees, a donut and a nice breakfast sandwich under $ 16 makes me happy.

Coffee and cake is a thing close to my heart. I say a thing, singular, because they come as one. Both are good individually but together and, chosen carefully, they make my day. You would think this is an easy desire to satisfy. It is not. The place has to have a relaxed atmosphere, be welcoming and serve good coffee. Many of San Diego’s coffee shops meet these criteria. But there’s one sticking point. They all serve the same cakes, made offsite, by the same bakeries. I grow tired of the standard chocolate chip muffins and lemon poppy seed scones. Excite me! That’s where Krakatoa steps in. The manager bakes all her pastries daily and spreads them upon the counter, so that they might tempt you whilst ordering that oh-so healthy americano. She puts real love and attention into her baking and, if you’re lucky enough to catch her in a rare free moment, is also quite charming. So far I’ve enjoyed pecan chocolate cookies so big they outlast two coffees, tea breads galore such as pear or banana walnut, pumpkin pie cheesecake and fabulous crumbly fruit pie. This is what I’m looking for! For those who are so inclined, a good proportion of vegan or vegetarian options are present. On top of all that, the prices are fair for fresh handmade goods and they have a sunny outdoor patio where you can watch the world pass by. If you see a lycra-clad cyclist sat there smiling it might well be me.

Krakatoa fo-shoa! This is a cozy coffee shop/café located in Golden Hill. It has a large patio deck surrounded by lush foliage. The interior is a funky Polynesian décor. There is an eclectic collection of various hanging carved wooden tiki masks, paintings and frames juxtaposed against red walls. Lunch was a little expensive(approx. $ 11 – 12) but scrump-diddly-umptious. I am a huge fan of the Colima sandwich and pomegranate blood orange iced tea. The Colima is made with turkey, chipotle garlic mayo(to die for), sharp cheddar, tomatoes, lettuce, red onion on a telera roll and served with a small side of their potato salad. This was a perfect union of sandwich, side and drink() They also offer free WiFi, a dog-friendly patio, smoothies, fresh squeezed juices, salads, soups and even beer and wine! They have a parking lot in the rear otherwise it is street parking. All the menus are handwritten which add a nice personal touch and you can tell the staff really take pride in what they serve to the clientele. Start your day with a quality cup of joe or whatever suits your fancy here!

Atmosphere: Casual, even your PJ’s are acceptable. A cute house looking coffee shop, with a beautiful outside deck. Favorite Items: Ice latte with a avocado bacon breakfast sandwich. My favorite coffee shop in San Diego. It is tucked away in a tree house and has amazing small breakfast options.

Okay. As a Golden Hill resident you must know a few important things if you want to survive. 1. Luigi’s is cash only 2. Turf serves steak until 1:00AM. 3. Krakatoa serves happy hour. Yes, this place that specializes in «Coffee & Tea, Sandwiches, Breakfast & Brunch» has a secret little happy hour! Here are the deets: Happy hour is daily from 3:00 — 6:00PM. $ 1.00 off all sandwiches, which are absolutely delicious, $ 3.00 beer and wine and $ 3.00 orange blossom mimosas and fresh fruit red or white sangria. Krakatoa, not just for coffee, tea, breakfast or brunch anymore. Beer me!

I still remember one of the 1st months I moved to this beautiful city a coworker of mine brought some crazy turkey and cranberry sandwich to work and nearly forced me to share it with him. Evidently it was«soooo good» that I HAD to try it. To be honest I was semi reluctant because up until that point I had never met a cranberry sandwich I liked. Sweet Gods of Sandwich’s and Deli Meats… it was incredible! Juicy thin slices of turkey, lots of crispy bacon, the perfect amount of sweet cranberry sauce to balance out the saltiness of the bacon and that cream cheese finish making this one sexy well rounded game changer! Flash forward two years I’m Unilocaling the Golden Hill area for a sandwich shop when I stumbled upon this Krakatoa and read the reviews ranting and raving about their turkey cranberry sandwich… I knew I had found it! I absolutely adore this place! It’s a smaller mom and pop shop with a laid back vibe. Emphasis on LAIDBACK, nothing about this place screams quick food on the go! They aren’t worried about ticket times or pumping out sandwiches or coffee at Starbuck speed. But there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that. This is a good old fashion coffee place that makes some bomb sandwiches… on their time. That are totally worth the wait and I totally respect it. If you’re in a hurry call ahead and order one to-go. I did and they quoted me about 10 min but it really turned out to be more like 20. So keep that in mind.
