Leslie is a consummate voice teacher. She has extensive knowledge about the science behind singing and vocal technique. She can teach any style and any level. Leslie will work with you on what you want to do, whether you want to be the next American Idol or just get your voice in better shape for your community choir. I’ve had her sub for me in classes that I’ve taught, and I’ve referred people to her when I couldn’t take any students. Go see Leslie!

I cannot say enough positive things about Leslie. Not only is she well trained in vocal technique and the physiological aspects of singing, she’s an excellent teacher. 1) Leslie is great at diagnosing her students’ weak points, and is always able to suggest a variety of appropriate vocal exercises to fix these issues. Some music teachers are very vague when it comes to this — not Leslie. She will explain what the issue is in terms of both sound and physiology, describe what you need to do, and demonstrate what the intended effect should be. She’s helpful, thoughtful, and never condescending. Her communication skills are great and exactly what I’d be looking for in a teacher of any subject. 2) She’ll encourage you as much as you need and is always willing to offer suggestions on pieces and exercises, but she is very respectful of your goals. I saw her when I was a grad student at UCSD, and I really appreciated that she was never pushy with respect to my time and energy. Her primary goal is to help you to explore and develop your own singing interests and abilities. Leslie is also a generally wonderful, positive person to be around, and as far as I can tell, she gets along well with a variety of people. That was important to me, because while you can take singing seriously, it should also be something that makes life better. Leslie has both the technique and the personality to make lessons worthwhile, and I recommend her highly.

Five stars are not enough when rating Leslie Leytham. Not only does she know the anatomy and physiology of singing, her approaches to technique and performance are above and beyond the rest. She makes the most of your lesson time with vocal exercises that address your specific needs and goals and workshopping song repertoire. She is knowledgeable in many genres of music – classical, jazz, pop, R&B, Latin, blues, funk and she can back up all of her knowledge with a powerful, beautiful voice and an equally amazing character. She not only makes sure you are comfortable with her, but through encouragement and positive reinforcement, are comfortable with yourself as well.

If you need help preparing for auditions, battling stage fright, or get some major singing chops go see Leslie! I’ve seen her work wonders with all sorts of singers — whether their interests are classical, pop, jazz, she’ll get you sounding like the best version of you possible. And a teacher that actually knows something about technique? That’s rare! A lot of vocal coaches don’t know anything about the anatomy and physiology of singing. In this arena Leslie might as well be a throat surgeon.
