Might be the crappiest bar in California It’s an absolute miracle that this bar is still in business Smells bad, drinks are weak, dark and musty, dirty, no food, weak TVs The only good thing about this place is that you can buy beers to go!!! YAY!!! This bar needs some prayers… BLESSUP

the bartender here was lovely and helpful but the pinball is absurdly expensive and they can’t find the tips to their darts. we came in thinking we’d kill an hour or two but wound up downing our drinks and taking off after 5 minutes.

This is a good dive bar, spacious and friendly. There are a lot of regulars and Whitney is very inviting and awesome. Sometimes they have pizza or other food available, so I would check in if your in the PB area.

Fun dive bar in PB! I went to a Halloween part there a few weeks ago and had a blast. They don’t have a great selection of beers on tap, but they do have a pool table, pinball and darts in the back. Service, even on a busy night, was friendly and efficient.

One of the best dives in SD! Great locals, great atmosphere, great vibe! Bartenders are super hot(especially Tara!) and drinks are priced right! Wish I lived closer I’d be there every night!

I’ve been going to the Night Owl for years and their new bartender April is by far the best. Now the best place to drink in SD on Thursday and Fridays during the day time!!!

Hoot. Hoot. I’m a Nite Owl. Late Saturday night and suddenly I was transported over to my cousin’s Midwest ‘70s man cave basement with a few modern touches: –wood paneling –well stocked bar with the basics –electronic dart board –Touch Tunes juke box –pool table –big screen tv –Indiana Jones pinball –outdoor woodsman bathroom wallpaper I believe the building’s exterior has been refurbished, but much of the interior has maintained its old, woody scheme. The dated design has a natural charm in it’s own special way, but like the cowbell, this place needs more owl simply because I like owls(and turtles). A friend in the area wanted to meet up for drinks, but we were thinking low key and laid back instead of the loud party PB bar/clubbing scene, beach parking, or the DUI checkpoint lines escaping the bro zone layer after last call. Other dives were considered, like Silver Fox, Dave’s Tavern, or Silver Spigot, but Nite Owl seemed right. No run-ins with toothless drifters or other sketchy characters, but we got to visit with lovely bartendress, Tara, who did a fine job of making sure glasses were kept full. We also chatted with Dani(sp?), an off-duty journeyman bartendress who shared some interesting industry insider stories. Even a party bus of drunks stopped in for a round. The Nite Owl is a classic PB landmark that has it’s doors open for all species of wildlife. It’s not exactly a lounge without comfy booths or plush seating, but the barstools keep you upright. The cocktail pours are heavy and the beers are cold. There is plenty of people watching potential on a busier Nite, so bring your dive bar bingo cards.

Lucky for me, I live walking distance to this gem. In fact, this is the closest drinking establishment to my house other than sneaking beers on to the golf course. I am a huge fan of dive bars, so the dark interior and older regulars are commonplace at bars I frequent. At this location, you will find both. The crowd is aways friendly, and often generous. It’s not strange here to have strangers buy you a round of drinks. It’s easy to do here as well since their prices are right up my alley — cheap. The Touch Tunes makes it fun to play whatever your heart desires. And don’t be shy about having a dance party. There’s no set dance floor, but dancing is not discouraged. The bartenders are always friendly and helpful, but there’s usually only one working, so when you roll up with a crowd of 10 of your best friends, someone is gonna have to wait a minute for a drink so be patient. Or play around of pinball while you wait. The place is spacious and the bathrooms(although not fancy) are always clean. That’s the sign of a place where people respect the bar. Not only the staff, but obviously the patrons as well. If they could somehow add an outdoor or roof top patio I would be in HEAVEN and their sales would easily triple. That or maybe a big TV with«sports» since I don’t have cable. This is not your typical PB bar, so don’t get too excited about mojitos and girls in skimpy dresses. You’ll see a lot of regulars, dressed down and just havin’ a beer with the crew. Come on in sometime and say hello.

Good dive bar with cheap drinks and an interesting crowd. Can get a little rowdy on Friday/Saturday nights but that is part of the fun.

I don’t hate this bar. Aside from my pervious post. That was only for the shady experience with the bartender. It’s my favorite dive and I’ve had plenty of great times here. But I only come here when Meg is working. She’s a fun bartender. Great personality. Always happy and cheerful and the vive in here is chill and laid back. Drinks are cheap and I always leave here with a belly full of laughs!

This place is a great dive bar. And, contrary to the ridiculous hack piece Cristal posted, there is no better time to stop in here than when Victoria is the drink slinger. I will go out of my way to cruise by if I know she’s gonna be here. Victoria is adorable. Friendly, funny, sweet and girl-next-door likeable. All the ladies are great here. V is the bomb though.

My new fave dive bar. Right up there with the Star Bar downtown. Everyone was chill and made us feel at home. Some dudes kept sending our ladies drinks and we’re like, «OK, bro, less for me to buy. She’s still leaving with me.» Then a couple next to us bought us a Grasshopper because they thought we’d like it. We sent them a round. Yeah, it’s that kind of place. Left after a couple hours with a tiny little bar tab… and our girls.

Great dive bar. If you are expecting anything classier than a dirty dive you are gonna be disappointed. There is something comforting about getting drunk next to a 75 year old man with an oxygen tank, it kind of reminds me of Christmas at grandma’s. Also when you buy your buddies a round of Jack & Gingers and the tab comes out to only $ 8 you know you are in the right place. That being said, you have to be in the right mind set to go here. It’s not my everyday spot, but when I feel like having a sloppy drunk time it is pretty good for that.

Don’t ask me why, but when I first set my eyes on the Nite Owl at the young age of 17 I decided that this was the bar I was going to spend my 21st birthday in. There I was, a college freshman visiting Pacific Beach for the first time when I saw the Nite Owl. It’s a beige building on the corner when you turn onto Garnet. I noticed that the sign has become more updated, but the inside is still the shabby ol’ dive bar locals know and like. Inside is small, but cozy. It’s the kind of bar with wood panels that you imagine truckers or seedy people hanging out there in general. I showed up at 11:59PM the day before my birthday, once midnight struck I ordered an apple-tini light on the tini like J.D. on Scrubs. The bartender called for a toast and I had my first drink with my friends along with the other patrons at the bar(mostly gruff, older men). I couldn’t ask for a better introductory 21 year old moment since I’m an old person in a fairly young, Asian girl body(I despise clubbing). The drinks are strong, cheap, and don’t vary much from the standards you expect in bars. I love going here when I want a random conversation with a stranger, but most people seem to keep to themselves. I can’t imagine myself staying here longer than an hour and the overall dingyness of the place has its charm. I gave it 3 stars for a good birthday, but no more because the drinks aren’t any special and after the first visit it sort of lost the novelty for me.

Deuches are rampant in the PB area, mostly by the touristy area on Grant and Garnett. But what if you dont make the varsity deuchy club? Well, you get the reject deuches and they congregate here at the Nite Owl. This place is over-run with the saltiest of the deuche parade, that they feel the need to prove to themselves that they are #1 in Deuschland. I was scared for my life, and I had to expedite drinking my pint so I can get out of there. But these guys were kinda entertaining… old, but deuchelike. At least with the bars in downtown PB, you can always escape a deuchy bar and go somewhere else, all within walking distance. Not here. This is where old deuches go to die.

An old man here told me I had«beautiful corrective lenses.» And their food menu consists of freshly-microwave-popped popcorn. Also it kind of feels like grandma’s house. But like, a cool grandma’s house. I’ve only been here once, but I kind of feel the need to go back.
