Whenever the fiancé and I crave sushi, we tend to go for AYCE places to get our money’s worth. We decided to go to this location vs. the hillcrest one and I’m so glad that we did! Parking is still limited within the area but no where as near how bad it is in hillcrest. They also have complimentary free valet — which we didn’t take advantage of, because we weren’t aware of their services before we walked up. Ha! I got a few specialty rolls like the Lemon Roll and Volcano, which are some of my favorites. But we really come for the nigiri– I really like their tuna cajun and albacore, and I love being able to order hand rolls and other appetizers like gyoza, miso soup, calamari and edamame. The service was great overall and it was a great experience. I think we’ll come to this location more.

Wanted sushi and this was the nearest place to me. I got shrimp tempura crunch and veggie roll. Their shrimp tempura crunch was very good. Their veggie roll wasnt. VERY thin pieces and only a few. The rest they use as if they were garnishes. I was really looking forward to their veggie rolls but it was such a let down. I wont be coming back. On another hand our waiter james was really nice and attentive.

Okay RB Sushi has redeemed itself. Yes, I still think they need to do better upkeep on the place but I didn’t take a restroom visit this time. I got the all you can eat with friends and got to try 6 new rolls and 3 nigiri and it was not only well worth the money, because I ate what amounted to about 4 rolls plus, I was happy with every choice. The service was great, they kept checking in on us and never left an empty plate for very long. We had the Oh No!, Da Bomb, Rainbow, Tiger, Kryptonite and the Garnet. I had never had escolar fish before so I LOVED it on the Oh No! roll. It was very light and moist… I didn’t even need sauce on that roll. The rainbow was fresh and light. The tiger was tasty and sweet. The Garnet was amazing but so rich. That one is certainly one for the top of the charts! But we were floored by the Kryptonite. It was like a mix between a spicy krab, rainbow and lemon roll. I ate it with just a little bit of light soy sauce and I was hooked! Good thing we had an abundance of ginger, because I don’t feel like I over ate but we were completely satisfied! Looking forward to the next round!

I would not consider this«authentic» Japanese food in any way, shape or form, but the food we had was decent and the price was reasonable. We ordered several sushi rolls and some homestyle food to go. The portions were enormous, especially for the rolls. I do like to eat my rolls in one bite, and these were two-three biters each. The teriykai was fine — again, a huge portion of chicken and an entire side of steamed vegetables, which I actually enjoyed. I’d say stick with the homestyle offerings and you’ll have a great meal.

Haven’t been here in a while. We were greeted pretty fairly and seated within minutes. We ordered good for our first round. Between each round it took 5 minutes or so in between. The waiters weren’t really friendly and seemed like forgot about us for a while but overall we liked the food. Not sure we’ll become regulars because of the vibe we got but if ever were desperate enough for sushi, we’ll be back

All you can eat mediocre sushi for a good price. You get what you pay for here. I came here enough times for a detailed review and I really dislike the service here. Normally, it would be top notch and quick but it took too damn long today. We waited about ten minutes between each rounds. The food is inconsistent and rarely fresh. A lot of the nigiri is bad and the plates are never clean. The tableware that was given to my tablet had spots and mine even had a stain. Good things to order: Octopus nigiri, eel avocado handroll, spicy tuna roll Avoid: Salmon, mackerel, egg, and tuna nigiri Before, everything was alright. The service was friendly, the food came out pretty and fast, now it flopped. The interior of the place is still really nice however it does not convince me to give this place a high rating. I noticed that there was only one chef making sushi and two others were training one person. When we were seated, the first thing we got was miso soup. Our drinks weren’t even served first. The waiters didn’t know what table our handrolls were from, by the time we got it, the food was cold. I got very irritated and I wanted to leave because of how long it took for everything else. The receipt asks for 18−25(?)% gratuity but that was just too much give in exchange for the service we got today.

This place is awesome! We definitely loved the food and service here. We arrived during lunchtime and were seated right away. It looks like there was limited space, but there were a lot more tables in the back that they can open up when it gets full! Parking was minimal. There were two cars parked by the concrete wall on the other side and we couldn’t decide if they were customer or employee cars. If we took up the«last parking spot» it would have blocked them in. They got out fine in the end. I really do agree with the other reviewers that the UFO is a must try! Most of the rolls we got were delicious and there is a good variety between them. The service was great as well! We had a good flow of food coming and our drinks were constantly filled. I definitely want to come back here ASAP!

Got bad pieces of Tuna. It was still frozen and tasted awful. I almost gagged when I took a bite of it. Overall the service was slow but it was a busy night so I can understand. Everything else was okay at best. It was ayce but I don’t think the price is worth it, especially when they took off the really good stuff off the menu; like uni and salmon cheek. I miss the old RB sushi…

It’s a good all you can eat sushi place. I love going there to just gorge myself on nigiri and hand rolls. But a little expensive to keep doing all the time so I don’t know why the site is giving them«$$» for the cost. Maybe that’s because of the generic non-sushi meals. I’ve been here dozens of times over the years, both this one and the Hillcrest location. I still prefer the Hillcrest location, but the R.B. here has improved a bit recently. Just watch out for a few of the rules they have. If it’s busy there’ll probably be 75% of your party must be here to be seated rule. Varies. They tend only to allow four forms of payment not including cash. If you have a large group, you had better have cash or you’re going to end up paying more than your fair share. It’s not fun, at all. I’ve came in with friends before that suddenly invited other friends that begrudgingly(or don’t quite) pay their full tab. Then people with cards get shafted or end up responsible for more of the tip. This and with how stupid people can be with the AYCE menu when in a group are why I don’t think R.B. is the best for large groups. If you want to bring a large party be careful or just try to split yourselves up into smaller groups guys. I would recommend four per table, a lot of the time you will appreciate it just because you can order your own food on the AYCE menu more easily and don’t have to reach over anyone.

If you are a hardcore sushi lover, recognize that the Lord put it in the heart of man to make this place just for us! This is the first AYCE sushi place that I’ve ever been to where the sushi is made to order. Here’s how it works: they give you 3 rounds to start(you can go a fourth round if you have a black hole for a stomach) and you can order as many items as you can handle per round. The catch is, you must finish everything you order otherwise they’ll charge you a la cart, so you definitely want to pace yourself. Also you can only share the AYCE sushi with people that are doing AYCE as well. The taste and quality is excellent, I try to come at least twice a month!

Oh man oh man… My gf and I ate here for the first time, I thought it was fine. Most of their rolls weren’t anything special. I also ordered their beef bowl and it was no good! But my gf order their lobster roll and I asked her how it was; she said it did not taste good at all. I also tried a piece of the roll and I didn’t like it as well. I think this link explains why…
They have a really small parking space, but they offer free valet parking. I won’t be coming back here because there are way better sushi place around.

RB Sushi has AYCE. I only come here for the AYCE. Lunch is ~$ 21, and Dinner is ~$ 25. It’s super easy to get your money’s worth because regular prices are pretty high. They have a pretty wide assortment of specialty rolls, appetizers, and nigiri. I haven’t really tried any of their specialty rolls because they all look very heavy and unappealing. Their appetizers are decent. I really like their agedashi tofu. The quality of their fish is not great, but I cut them some slack since it’s AYCE. With that being said, they don’t always bring you what you order. Yesterday night, we ordered a seaweed salad and various tempura during Round 1, but those orders never arrived. Annoying, but no biggie. we just ordered those during Round 2. I think this can be annoying if you’re using your satiety as a metric for how much to order. Edit: The ordering sheet says you have 3 rounds, but I am pretty sure you can order more than thrice. Parking is not a problem at all since there is an underground parking garage. If you eat at RB Sushi, they validate 2 hours of parking so as long as you don’t go with a large party and don’t need to wait, you can pretty much get free parking. One caveat: everything you leave on your table if you eat AYCE is charged a la carte. so order what you can eat and don’t be wasteful.

I’ve been here a few times and haven’t left disappointed. You get the option of ordering from a regular menu or from an all you can eat menu. If you plan on personally ordering about two rolls… just do the all you can eat menu! It’s about twenty bucks for three rounds of unlimited sushi, nigiri, appetizer/small bites, hand rolls, and more! There’s so much included in the all you can eat menu. If you order two things from the regular menu, it practically covers the cost of the all you can eat menu. Definitely worth it! *The only catch to it is that you have to finish your food.

This is my favorite sushi place because I consume a lot of food so it’s affordable because of the all you can eat option. Always consistent and that’s what I love. Pros: — Affordable(all you can eat = lunch is $ 20 and dinner is $ 23) — Service is polite and friendly — Food is consistent Cons: — Parking is horrible(at night for a few hours they have valet parking), they only have a small private parking lot. — The wait time for food to get to your table could take long. They don’t have much servers working then most places.

Sad to say … it didn’t hit the spot I am definitely not familiar with mushrooms in my teriyaki… I ordered chicken teriyaki and no mushrooms for a reason still got them :(. I also ordered the shrimp crunch roll it was bland as well but a fast arrival made it better. Gave this place try since my good friend had been telling me so much about it… like I said sad to say don’t think I will come back. Kudos to the vallet parking kid :)

RB has the best AYCE sushi deal in San Diego. Usually I go to RB sushi in North County, but since it’s closer to home I started coming to this one with a friend who also lives nearby. Yesterday we were enjoying our dinner thanks to attentive servers(as usual) and bomb nigiri. Our main server was really nice and the other servers also always made sure we had our glasses full/checked if we needed anything. However, we were unlucky in being seated next to super rude customers who were also doing AYCE and were trying to wrap their leftovers in napkins to avoid the fees? The manager was so professional in handling all the bull**** they were throwing at him and our server who also waited their table. But apparently they wanna play dumb and write bad reviews when the manager took off one of the AYCE charges for their table of 3 and handled the situation perfectly when they were the ones who should have read the AYCE rules and not ordered food they don’t like? Common sense right? They even tried to say there was a bug in their food and pull the racist card on the server… Anyways, I felt obligated to write a review in rebuttal to their reviews because RB sushi is my favorite spot for AYCE sushi, they have multiple locations throughout San Diego, AND their customer service is always A+ at every location.

Like the ayce sushi here. Came here after a lite gym session, with a hungry rating of 10. Of course came here with friends, all of us trying the ayce, it was probably the 2nd time I have been here. No regrets. Got the bake zagiri? Ocean beach, garnet, and garlic edamame all on point. The rice wasn’t as sticky this time around, but it didn’t matter if the rolls were falling apart, it was all going to be consumed in some way shape or form. The ocean beach roll was really good, I think it was a california roll with spicy scallops on top of it. The bake zagiri was the same, except with crawfish on top. And the garnet was just awesomeness summed up. The service was attentive, but our party was more concerned with food in our bellies more than the response time and timeliness of water refills. Ashley was our server, she was awesome!

I hardly go to sushi buffets unless I’m having a somewhat big appetite. All sushi lovers know you get what you pay for. But for $ 25, this makes AYCE just a-okay as you can stuff your tummy up with all sorts of dishes in addition to their nigiri or rolls. Yes, there are ridiculously large portions of rice(which they force you to finish if you don’t want to get charged extra), which is part of the restaurant’s plan to stuff you up so you don’t get your money’s worth. The rice under their nigiri is literally quadruple the size of the sashimi slice! Be sure to order a few times because for some reason they always screw up the order and it’s guaranteed you’ll be missing one or two of the items you wrote down! Their mussels aren’t too bad though and are easy devour. Get a few orders as the portion on their orders can be quite skimpy. If you’re looking for just straight up sashimi, the trick is to order their salad. It comes with a few decent slices of sashimi(you can hide your leftover rice under it, wink wink). Don’t expect good quality sushi here and come with a big appetite! Oh yeah, bring the uni back!

3.5 stars! The parking is very limited in their small parking lot so come here early or hopefully find some parking on the street. I like how they greet you right when you walk in and the customer service is better than most places. Though our waitress forgot my miso soup the first time, but overall they’re consistent with filling waters and getting orders in and bringing food out. I suggest getting their AYCE(All you can eat) specials since it’s worth it, because their prices for one sushi roll is about $ 12 and their AYCE for dinner is $ 25. The quality of the fish seems quite fresh and their fish to rice ration is pretty good as well. Some of their appetizers however, aren’t up to par, their calamari isn’t fresh and their garlic edamame is very disappointing. But I’d only come here for AYCE if I am starving since one roll would usually suffice for me so for me personally, I don’t think I get my money’s worth. But I would recommend this place for their AYCE specials for heavy eaters!

The good: Customer service is great. Very courteous and attentive. The shrimp tempura was pretty good and crispy. The ok: The sushi quality is not great and not bad. It’s «ok». If you have a lot of experience with sushi, you will probably not like the sushi here. If you eat anything and everything and just want value, this is a great deal for AYCE. The vegetable tempura had crispy outside but vegetables were raw and crunchy inside. Carrots and firm veggies should be pre-cooked prior to frying so they are not so crunchy. The bad: Found petrified rice in my nigiri and about broke my tooth. This leads me to think they are mixing day old with fresh rice. Or they are not cleaning prep surfaces which allowed dry old rice to mix with new rice. Miso soup was watered down to the point It was not good. Weak miso is not good especially when its the FIRST item I was served. It was an immediate indicator of what to expect in regards to quality. Overall: Can’t argue that the all you can eat is a value. But the stomach doesn’t care what you paid. If the sushi isn’t good enough, you won’t enjoy your meal. Worth a try. Decide for yourself.
