There’s not too many Rice King locations in San Diego, which is a shame. For quick and affordable Chinese food, there’s something they offer which Panda Express doesn’t really do as well — and that’s their grilled teriyaki chicken. Every time I come here, it tastes like it just came off the grill, what with the char marks and all, and especially with that sauce = delectable! Unfortunately, there isn’t much else to speak of here; the selection isn’t as robust as Panda Express, and what’s on the menu is mostly chicken based. Orange chicken, spicy orange chicken(which I haven’t tried yet), kung pao chicken(no peanuts — boo!), mushroom chicken, chicken egg rolls(.99 — but they weren’t available on the steam table, and I wasn’t in the mood to wait)… you get the idea. The only beef dish they had was beef and broccoli, and I wasn’t that impressed when I saw it on the steam table, and the chop suey veggies rated a hard pass. However, on my most recent visit, one of the items I chose for my 3-item combo was a skewer of chicken breast pieces threaded with onions and bell peppers, and it wasn’t that bad. I was disappointed that the fried rice no longer had chicken in it, though. Seating’s limited here, as well as the parking — I have a feeling that this Rice King does most of its business on the weekday lunch rush from MCAS Miramar and the nearby business parks on Black Mountain Road. If you’re in the mood for some quick Chinese that isn’t Chung Hing — and as long as you stick to the teriyaki chicken — you’ll be fine.

Since I’m not a fan of Panda Express so I thought would give this place a try. No good. Very bland flavors. If anything this moved Panda Express up a notch in my book.

I know, I know… 5 stars for fast Asian food? Yes! Is it gourmet? No. Is it good? YES!!! It’s your typical fast Asian food place but fresh and good. I get the half noodles and half fried rice and they’re both fresh and really good. The noodles aren’t overloaded with cheap filler like cabbage. The rice is good and not overcooked or dry. I really like the spicy orange chicken and i even kick it up a little with more Sriracha sauce. They also have a really good Spicy Soyu Chicken that’s really good. I wanted to try the Kung Pao but theres zucchini in it(a BIG no no in my book) so I guess I’ll never know. The only drawback is the fountain has Pepsi BUT… you can buy Coke products in the bottle from the fridge to the left! I’m a fan and when I work at MCAS Miramar I’ll be back!

I’m not a fan. I usually end up coming here when I’m doing business in the area and I’m pressed for time and need a quick meal. I end up disappointed every single time. The food never looks fresh. The vegetables are always soggy and the entrees usually have that discoloration on top that tells me that they’re old and haven’t been stirred in a while. It’s just not good.

I came here on a Monday night, because my favorite Chinese food place in the area, Chung Hing, was closed. I have worked in the Miramar area for almost 3 years, but I had never stopped by because… well…it’s a Rice King. I thought I’d give it a try tonight… When I first walked in the girl was friendly and greeted me warmly. +1. Then I looked at the food. If there were ever a zombie apocalypse equivalent of a Chinese food display, this would be it. The broccoli beef and teriyaki chicken reminded me of something out of an old horror movie, like when they show a mummy get unraveled and the remaining carcass is all shriveled up and dried out. The orange chicken evoked a similar response. The entire scene made me feel like I had just arrived at the tail end of a long drawn-out battle between the Chinese food and high standards, with both having suffered significant casualties on each side. I just kept picturing a marching piece of shriveled broccoli: single crutch, head bandage, whistling Dixie. Staring at that sad display of food, I couldn’t help but shake the feeling that the people who ate here regularly, if there were any, must have had some seriously deep-rooted emotional issues that resulted in bad life choices that inevitably brought them here. Just a feeling though, couldn’t say for sure. «Everything looks so sad» I told the girl behind the counter. «Do you have anything that doesn’t look so… weathered?» I meant to say«withered,» but then I realized ‘weathered’ was equally appropriate, so I just went with it. «No, we close at 8pm,» she said. I ordered the teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, steamed rice, and chow mein. Fair is fair. The steamed rice wasn’t half bad. At least it was fresh. Rice KING, debatable, rice lord or vassal maybe. The chow mein was edible. The teriyaki and orange chickens, however, were — as expected — not to my liking. The real rub came at about 8pm, when — rather than say, «sir we’re about to close,» or, «sir we’re about to close, we’d ask that you finish up in the next five minutes,» they simply shut the lights off on me. «Uh…» «Oh don’t worry,» the two girls behind the counter said. «That’s just so no new customers will come in. You can finish.» Who knows, maybe they were doing me a courtesy by not forcing me to look at their food while I ate it. Either way, I wasn’t too keen on eating in the dark, so I got up and left. Such was the short-lived reign of the Miramar Rice King.

Ew, this place was gross. Not very clean and the food was not that good. I won’t be back. But I guess I can’t really complain, as it is not a real chinese food restaurant.

Read the reviews and figured I would give it a try. I walked in and was a bit apprehensive as the place was empty and the food looked as though it has been sitting quite a while; I ordered nonetheless My apprehension was proven correct; food was stale; it tasted like it had been warmed up more than once; just plain terrible. I would not recommend nor return. Agree with the other comment; quite possibly the worst food in the Miramar area.

Quite possibly one of the worst places to eat on Miramar. It’s edible, but not much more than that. If you want Chinese, check one of the other places on Miramar; they’re all better than this Rice King.

This 4 Star rating is for the SPICYORANGECHICKEN. Enough said knocked off 1 Star cause they close too early. They close at 7:30pm on the weekdays.
