Great place with quality food. Makes me wonder why it has three stars. The food is always hot and delicious & the associates have never given me issues before. The only comment I have is that there’s a huge adult store right next door, so be prepared to explain to your kids what that is. Good luck!

American Classic! Love love love tommy burger and their chili cheese fries. Establishment was clean and associates were friendly. Definitely recommended. It’s like in and out but with chili. Two thumbs up. Only down side is that there is a porn shop next door but it is a separate building.

This was my second choice place to eat quick. I had the chili cheese fries. Very good. The meat in the chili was definitely mystery meat. This was enough to feed me and it was about $ 4. Very clean restaurant. I can’t imagine waiting in a huge line for this food but it reminded my of Chicago greasy spoons even though it’s from LA. Is like to try a chili cheese burger another time.

This place is so gross. I dont know what they are World Famous for. Burger pattis are bland and chili with yellow peppers add a muck of yuck I couldn’t stand to look at. The food here will cause you reflux all night and you will be regurgitating barf for hours. Seriously… the hamburgers at am/pm or even at a cafeteria from an elementary school are much better. Save your money… run away.

This place brings back many happy memories from when I lived in LA County. The food is the same great stuff they serve up north, but this SD Tommy’s is not in a bad neighborhood, and it’s easy to find parking. This Tommy’s is a great place to go if you want your fix of LA without spending any time on the 405.

Over rated burger and chili cheese fries… over price. Not friendly staff. Overall never go back to this place again.

The burger was actually comparable to in-n-out except for the cold chili in it. It seams this place is known for their chili and despite being my first experience, I asked for the double burger without it. Upon leaving the slow drive-thru, I noticed they put chili on anyways and charged for it! The chili flavor wasn’t bad, but it was less than room temp and 1⁄3 of it was outside the burger. making a mess to eat. I like that they give chili peppers on the side and the price was fair for the quality, but doubt I’ll ever be back.

Came to try this place out for a late lunch. Looks so deserted. I pull up in the parking lot and there are only a few cars in the lot. This was my first time coming here and didn’t know what to expect. They sell chili cheeseburgers. Hubby ordered me the number 7 combo which is the chili cheeseburger, fries and a medium drink. They have Coke products which is a plus so I got raspberry iced tea. One of my favorite flavored teas. Our order is ready within 5 minutes. At first I thought the chili cheeseburger looked kind of gross. I took a bite and it tasted ok. The meat was flavorless and chili tasted like it came out of a can. I was not impressed with my burger at all. Ugh! I liked the French fries because they were hot and tasty with a pinch of salt. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This place reminds me of a Rally’s. I still gave it three stars because the fast food joint was clean. Even the windows were spotless. The employees seem to take pride in keeping it clean. I was not impressed. I don’t think I will be back.

I discovered Tommy’s a few weeks ago and I can’t get enough of their incredible chili burgers and chili dogs. There is no better chili burger and possibly one of the best chili dogs. Their fries are also outstanding. If you are looking for some great comfort food on a cool San Diego night, this is the go to place. Don’t forget to ask for some of their yellow peppers. So delish but seriously hot…

If you’re from LA you know about Tommys and have a deep appreciation for it. Tommys was and is still the bomb! Love their chili cheese fries and breakfast sandwich. Give them a try they are the original burger joint before In n Out got popular. I like Tommys because I love chili on my burger. Try it!

Tommy’s is world famous for a reason! The burgers are really good. The regular burger is a chili cheese burger, just so you don’t get caught by surprise. I’ve had the burger more traditional style, and it was still very good. Also, they have killer chili cheese fries, which are my favorite! The fries are good size and fluffy so they soak up all the chili really well. It’s not going to be a gourmet experience… you will make a mess, but it is worth it! Price wise it’s pretty comparable to most fastfood, just don’t expect a value menu. Happy Eating!

I only tried this place because I always drove by it on the way to Lolita’s. It said the place is world famous so it must be good right? WRONG. I got a burger with chili in it. Then I learned that I do not like chili anymore. The chili just ruined the whole burger. I’m sorry I guess I just don’t like their greasy chili. Besides the chili, the burger itself was decent, probably better if it didn’t have chili. If a come back, and that’s a BIG if, I’ll probably get a cheeseburger with no chili… thats dumb and pointless though, I’d rather go to In-N-Out or Lolita’s across the street. Guaranteed to be satisfied with those choices.

Tommy’s burgers. Wow, what a place. I can’t guarantee you’ll be able to stand after you leave, but it’s certainly unique. I give the customer service an A+. Maria up front is an absolute gem, top notch. As for the food, it’s extremely heavy, and unfortunately equally mediocre. Overall it was worth the experience, but I can’t say I’ll be a regular here.

A completely original burger joint in the heart of Clairemont. Their chile would make those cooney dogs from Sonic look like a microwave meal. The burgers are messy and really heavy. The women who took my order was friendly and really helpful. Maria took my order and was the sweetest ever. This place has the small town vibe, like when an old man walks in and gets the same combo every time. I don’t think I would come here again, but if I have a friend who is looking for a combination of meat, chile and cheese I’ll send him over here. The restaurant was clean and well kept. Everything is great about this place the only thing is that the food is just too heavy for my liking.

We tried this because everyone said it was sooooo good… uhhhh…no. Don’t get me wrong the food is not horribly gross but it does has absolutely no flavor at all. Salt makes it a little more bearing but it’s not worth the hype or the time.

Would highly recommend to anyone who is drunk or has no taste buds. I really only came in here because everything else was closed. I ordered a standard Tommy hamburger with cheese and it came with chilies so I said why not?! I am in adventurous and bold and that sounds adventurous and bold. The guy who met me at the window in the drive-through was friendly but I did get the impression he was on drugs. Still I didn’t even hold that against him, I figured maybe he would come up with something creative and delicious that I could put in my mouth. What I got was what felt heavy in my hand and look like a giant burger. I will admit my stomach got a boner. I did this really classy thing that I do sometimes which is eat and drive. Would not recommend this to anyone unless it is absolutely necessary or you are exhausted. Silly me. I must have been more on the exhausted side trying to eat a burger with chili with a fork in my car while driving. I am not totally a dirty human being but tonight I got a little dirty. By that I mean I took a few drops of chili and thought they would look really good on my black hoodie. Also not recommended. I picked away at the bun which with cheap fast food quality. The tomato I found on my burger was thicker than the meat patty I had to really scour the other stuff to find. In the end, I would say this place is better to be avoided than tried, unless you were desperate and really have no alternatives. Worse than a.m. p.m. food but still somewhat better than nothing– hence two stars. The last thing is this: no burger should look like the outside sidewalk of the fraternity house on «free barbecue and beer day». Just sayin.

What can honestly be said about food that is drenched in a blanket of chili? Well, i’m not entirely sure where to start. The food here is not great, but it’s also not bad… per say. It’s average in quality, flavor and definitely presentation.(But then again, when does anything ever look like the picture?) The overall flavor of the meal definitely comes from the abundance of chili that saturates every nook and cranny of the burger, fries, or breakfast burrito that you order. Tommy’s however, has got to be the ONLY place I know of that has chili with no consistency to it. Honestly, a can of manwhich has more body than that! Now, did that stop me from eating? Of course not, I was hungry! But the fact of the matter is, if I was looking for real quality, I should’ve gone elsewhere. Tommy’s(in my opinion) is more of a brand than a product… a food craving solvent than a truly fulfilling meal… This location in specific however, was clean, fast, and provided the most excellent of service… however, considering the product itself, I plan on making my interactions at Tommy’s few and far between…
