This is the place to buy wine! Incredibly personalized service and spot on recommendations at very reasonable prices. Nice and convenient to costco so you can get a terrific, unique wine to treat yourself while eating your 20 pounds of blueberries! We bought 2 cases of over the moon Riesling Sekt for our wedding, such a huge hit on a warm magical San Diego summer evening! Certainly was as good as any $ 50 bottle, so popular I now have 7 liters of Kirkland vodka and no Sekt left.

I was over by Morena Boulevard recently and saw a sign for a Truly Fine Wine out of the corner of my eye. It caught me by surprise because it’s sort of tucked away in an industrial type of building. I decided to turn around and check the place out. I was greeted by the owner, Damon, who was very friendly. I came to find out that all of his wines are from Germany. My initial thought was«eek…Riesling.» However, he spent a lot of time sharing what made his wine different hence dispelling the myth. He even told me how he became interested in German wine and it’s quite a little love story about his wife’s country of origin. In any case, I like to have a few bottles of white, red and bubbly on hand at my house. We were able to narrow down a few choices based upon my pallet. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised when I got around to opening the bottles with some company a few days ago. I will definitely be back and the plus is the wines I purchased didn’t break the bank. If you are looking for something more obscure and not to be found at the supermarket, Bev Mo, or TJ’s, definitely swing by. He can also help you determine which wines to pare with food. Awesome little wine boutique shop! I am a fan of supporting local businesses so check this place out!

Why in the world are there only 2 reviews for this place? If you like wine and personalized service get your best friend to drive you here so that you can taste a few bottles and buy one. Yes– Costco has great deals on wine but will a person take the time to explain everything about them and let you check them out and then actually point out the least expensive option? This is a tiny store and they don’t just have the wines you think about when you think«German» They have Pinot Noirs and sparkling at really good prices. I really like small shops owned by people who have true passion for what they are doing(more and more rare these days)

While waiting for some stuff at Costco, I decided to take a respite from the warehouse crowd by checking out the design oriented industrial park just south of Costco. At the south end of said industrial park is Truly Fine Wines. They specialize in German wines that are leaps beyond the cloyingly sweet Dr. Loosen Riesling types that are readily found in places like the grocery and World Market. From my cursory walk through, the wines run anywhere from $ 15-$ 80 but I didn’t look through their dessert wine selection. The retail space is small with a floor display island in the center of the space that was roughly two by ten cases big(reds, white, sparkling). Beyond the five foot walking lanes are wall displays for sale and dessert wines, a refrigerated case and the point of sale. In the minutes that we were there the owner Damon walked us through their selections, wine styles, discussed direct importing, wine pairing, their in-house tastings, gauged our tastes, recommended appropriate selections and so forth. Along the way, words like residual sugar, appellation, Rheinhessen, Spatlese, racking and Charlemagne were used. He definitely fit a lot of information and customer service into what I think were less than five minutes. I picked up a bottle of red, white and a wine key… a wine goblin seems to be stealing all of my corkscrews. I’m determined to hang on to this one! So far, Truly Fine Wine is my kind of wine shop. Based solely upon my in store experience, I am a fan. If I don’t update this, the wine went over well.

Truly Fine Wine owners go to small boutique wine producers in Germany. If you stop in to taste you will learn all about the different grades of German wines and why they chose this producer over another. They have a few wines that cost in the mid-teens and escalate from there. I’ve found the majority to be from the mid-twenties to mid-thirties and of course you can spend more. If your idea of a good wine place is Wine Steals and their ilk I recommend you run don’t walk to a small wine shop on Moreno just south of Costco. You will be amazed at the amount of flavor that can be packed into one bottle of wine. I’ve had some truly fine Riesling and Pinot Noir wines from Truly Fine Wine. it is worth driving past other wine shops to sample their wine. And a destination my friends means 4 stars.
