Went there once when I was in the neighborhood. Had their herb’s hamburger — it was awesome! The meat was tender, the burger was big(1⁄3 lb patty) and pretty filling. The woman at the counter was also very friendly and polite.

Have been here for lunch with my team before, 7 of us tried different stuff on the lunch menu, I had a Chris Como it was absolutely lunch-price-but-for-lunch-and-dinner. Also I installed Doblet in AK Subs absolutely happy from the start to the end.

The Sandwich is very good. But the people who work here are not friendly, no eye contact, not even Hello or Good Afternoon. We have been coming here for 2 yrs now and you would think they would know us and treat us well. Nor so much

A big hell yes. That was some fast-ass delivery, and this is one big ass sandwich. Simply put, I owe them my first born.

Talk about GI-NORMOUS. These subs are definitely worth your money’s worth and filled me up for 2 whole meals?! Quality sandwiches with great fresh tasting meat. My only hick up with this place is during lunch time, it’s completely ridiculous and busy. No time to tend to your needs or questions. So if you can try to make it before noon or a little after 1, it’s ideal. ALSOKNOWWHATYOUWANTBEFOREHAND!

Tasty sandwiches! I like the fries but for the money I spend on a sandwich AK skimps on the meat.

I had the hot pastrami sandwich, it was really solid tasty sandwich. 3 stars because it wasn’t a sandwich I am excited about. I would give them another shot since it’s a few blocks from my work. The lady was nice.

YUMMM! Hot Pastrami is what I get here. One time my mom and I ate there for lunch and she got the Philly Cheese Steak, and I, the Hot Pastrami, so we could split. I took a bite of hers and immediately grasped onto my sandwich. We were not going halvsies on this one. NOTTHATTHEPHILLYCHEESESTEAKWASN’T GOOD… I’m just trying to point out how much I like the Hot Pastrami. Service is awesome. Terrie at the front is always so bubbly and nice, and makes you feel welcomed. I like the vibes of this place. You can tell the owner is passionate about what he does. TRYIT!

They have the best philly cheese steak EVERRRR.(Or at least in The City). Love this place. The bread and the ingredients are delicious. I usually get them ordered in but have gone to the restaurant itself and it’s nice. Highly recommend this place. Just wish they were open on the weekends/past 4PM. But it’s all good.

2.5 stars if I could, rounded up because the staff works hard and they’re good people. My previous review is a bit out of date so I figured I’d update it. I guess it’s been about a year now since they’ve changed suppliers for their pastrami. The sad truth is that great flavor that I loved in their pastrami is no more. I talked to Chris(owner) about this several months ago and understand the tough decision he’s faced with to keep his prices where they’re at. Owning a sandwich shop anywhere these days is a challenge, let alone in San Francisco where rent is out of control. I get as a business you need to keep your prices at a spot to keep your clientele. I for one though would happily fork over an additional $ 4-$ 5 per sandwich for the old pastrami. I like good food, I like quality food, and I’m willing to pay for it. I understand not everyone feels that way. Unfortunately I’ve yet to find a sandwich at AK that can replace the pastrami that used to be part of my weekly rotation.

Awesome in every way. The soup of the day was great and their signature sandwich was perfect. They serve beer which is great. I can’t wait to go back.

The best hot pastrami, turkey and tuna melt in SoMa! Hear this, the line is long during lunch and it moves slowly but stand in it! You want this sandwich, I promise. Everything is good and the service is super friendly. The selection of breads is also great not to mention the fresh homemade soups, salads, sauces and cookies. They also serve premium coffee, tea, espresso drinks and assorted fresh bagels, pastries and fruits. You’ll be fat, satisfied and only about $ 5.00 lighter in the pockets. All in all, awesome sandwiches, ignore the funky blue building. They also have great hours 6:30 — 4:00pm…so to shorten the wait, call ahead to place orders to be picked up.

I have a picture of one of these subs framed in my living room. Jokes aside, fantastic sandwiches in this slightly hidden gem, and Chris and Terrie always offer excellent service. Just be sure not to make any moving violations in the frenzy to get here as fast as possible, CHP will bust your @$$!!

Our office catered a lunch from this place for a business meeting and the pastrami sandwich I got was so distractingly awesome, it was hard to pay attention to the agenda. I had to find out where they ordered it and was told to go to AK Subs. I went the next week and ordered the pastrami but this time with rye bread. Price is a great value at $ 8.74. The same melty goodness greeted me, but the rye bread just makes it A-OK. While I believe rye bread only exist to hang out with the pastrami, the bread couldn’t really stand the juiciness of the pastrami, so it felt more greasy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still one of the best pastramis I’ve ever eaten in my life, but I think next time I will order on a French roll as I had it the first time. I can’t attest to everything in the menu, but the customers seemed to be enjoying themselves when I went. I spotted a tasty looking order of fish and chips so putting that one on my list. They have a decent amount of space for seating. I’ll probably enjoy my meal there next time.

Having passed by AK subs countless times while riding the 47 and seeing the reviews and pictures of their fantastic looking sandwiches, I decided to make this my first stop on a week dedicated to finding great sandwiches in SF. I kept it simple on this visit and went with the popular Tony’s pastrami sandwich which is nothing more than a toasted roll, some mustard and what I can only describe as a mountain of pastrami. This sandwich is literally bigger than your face. The meat here is the star of the show and is almost bacon-like in texture at some points. Don’t come here expecting the new york deli style with thick cuts because this is the exact opposite of that and is sliced very thin. Despite that, it is very moist and tender on the inside while the edges of the strips contrast nicely with the rest because they are crisp, thin and peppery. I devoured this sandwich and loved every bit of it. Hopefully I will be able to try the meatball sandwich at some point as well as some of their other items but I don’t know if I will ever be able to resist getting this sandwich when I come here. Overall, AK subs delivered an amazing sandwich at a good price in a great location. For a mountain of pastrami that comes out steaming hot and has tons of flavor, this is «as good as it gets.»

AAAAGHHH!(Yes, the«open wide» noise). Yes, AK Subs is delicious! Ordered ahead, walked over and picked up my order even before the time the website stated it would be ready. #winning Ordered Tony’s Hot Pastrami with pepperoncini’s and extra mustard on rye. Nothing better than an acidic kick in your pastrami sandwich. The pastrami is juicy(not to be mistaken with oily!), a large stacked portion, and super flavorful. No regrets. I kind of don’t want to try anything else, I loved this sandwich oh so much.
