This review is based solely on 1 item — the wife cake. Out of all the places I’ve tried this pastry at, Blossom Bakery makes it the best. Light crust, chewy center, overall scrumptious mouth feel… this is the one item I can never purchase anywhere else except to compare it to the HK version for my upcoming trip.

I’ve had King Bakery coconut buns and Blossom Bakery coconut buns. Blossom Bakery wins the tasty, buttery, fluffy, not so sweet, coconutty goodness battle. They are super cheap too! Get em warm! That might take some assertiveness and extra gestures to the people behind the counter. He/she will point to the buns in the case. Keep pointing to the one in the oven. This may go on for a few rounds but it’s worth sparring to get the most out of the experience.

3.5 stars. The girl working the front counter was so cheery! Took me by surprise. My friend and I came here after having lunch across the street, and we were looking for egg tarts to end our meal on a sweet note. Egg tarts are $ 1 each. Kinda expensive for egg tarts in Chinatown, but we only got two, so… no quantity discount. They were delicious and flaky, but not too flaky. My friend was expecting that the egg tarts would be warmer and flakier, but they were fine for me. This place has tables where regulars hang out and chat. Love the local neighborhood vibe.

Spur of the moment decision to go here while wandering in Chinatown after lunch. The nice lady asks, «What are you looking for?». I told her I was looking for something sweet. She told me I should try the cocktail bun. I asked if the bun had cocktail fruit in it(those that know me will understand this leap of logic). She advised the bun has coconut and sesame in it and I would really like this bun. Boy Howdy, but she was right! The perfectly balanced flavors were sublime and not too sweet. Here’s the best part, they were super cheap! I have no idea if anything else here is good, but will be back to find out. Yum!

My family and I LOVE this place. This is our place to pick up some delicious pork buns. Although, the parking is difficult-it’s worth picking up a few boxes of pork bun. We highly recommend this place.

We randomly came across this location during some wandering. Excellent Char Sui Bao! We had to ask for it because it was fresh out of the oven… mmmmm mmmm good!

I love this place. This is our family’s go to cake store. Every time we order a cake, it’s super cheap and really good! I always like eating the cakes here, there’s never too much sugar and plenty of fruit. There isn’t as much pastry variety as I would like, but whenever I do order food to go along with my cake, it’s always good :)

10÷3÷13 3.5* Stopped by Chinatown in between meetings and picked up some buns for the coworkers. Tucked in quiet Beverly Place is Blossom Bakery(in Chinese it’s Bliss). For me it’s the alternative to Golden Gate Bakery when the line there is to long. Golden Gate is of course irreplaceable but Blossom would be the quick fix option. *Red bean Bun(.60): Usually piping hot with real red beans in the filling. Not too sweet, the bun is the same as the sesame bun. *Pineapple Bun(.50): much better than most bakeries in town because they’re usually warm and the crumbs on top very crispy. *Mexico Bun(.50): another must try with a savory crust made of salted butter and sugar on top. It’s only second to Golden Gate. *Egg Custard(.60): custard is not made with all eggs, tasted like it’s mixed with milk or starch. Forgettable. Overall I’m happy with this place, which is much cleaner than those bakeries on Stockton Street.

The cocktail buns are the best you will ever find anywhere, not only in SF Chinatown, but anywhere in the world! They are always served warm, and the prices can’t be beat. But you’d better get there early if you want some … they sell out early!

Best cocktail buns in the business. Char siu bow are also very very good with generous filling. Don tart are excellent. Prices are amazing. It’s hard to imagine any better value in Chinatown. I love this place. They don’t make em like this anymore. p. s. it helps to speak a little bit of Chinese or to know exactly what you want. Otherwise, be prepared to point.

Blossom Bakery was the old Wonder Bakery from decades ago. now, it’s just a place for cheap bakery eats, basically a little dough for a lot of baked dough, little else. Waverly place is an alley between grant ave and stockton st. eats: egg custard tarts(.65) –some egg custard taste but not rich, probably egg mixed with starch? or imitation egg flavoring used.(little bigger than thumb sized) old wife’s biscuit(bread, .75) –melon mix with filling(flour?) within a crusty flour shell –more flour than melon taste. huge piece. 5 inches across. crumbs: –still cheap but not as good as wonder –i know wonder from decades ago, this is no wonder. –rating: value 4 stars. quality: 2.5 stars chinese lessons mandanrin egg custard dan4 ta4

On a tight budget, I came here because I heard the prices were really good. I ordered 32-layer sheets cakes for $ 180. They requested a cash deposit, but I only had $ 10. It was no problem. In comparison to other bakeries, Wonder Food uses less fruit on top and inside. Typical white cake with lightly sweetened whipped cream edged with strawberries, kiwis, canned peach slices, honeydew melon balls, etc. The cakes arrived on time, tasted fresh and the words were spelled correctly.(Seriously, cakes from another bakery for anniversary party came with large words announcing«Happy Annivery») No charge for delivery in Chinatown. The delivery guys came with the invoice and I was able to give them the payment on the spot.(vs. other bakery where they deliver the cakes, but need you to stop by the bakery to pay) Three tasty fruit-topped two-layer sheet cakes for less than $ 200, including cash tips for delivery guys. I’m a fan! Located in an alleyway filled with seniors and locals hanging out reading the paper.

We bought our wedding cake here and were very pleased. We sampled cakes at several Chinese bakeries in town and Blossom’s was the tastiest — light, fluffy, just the right amount of sweetness. We got a 5-tier cake, 3 with fresh strawberries, and 2 with mango. All our guests thought the cake was delicious. They can add ribbons for you, and we asked our florist for some extra flowers to put on the cake. The staff at Blossom was quite friendly(more so than the other places we visited), and the cake was delivered on-time and as ordered to our banquet at Four Seas across the street.

We really like this place and have had great experiences, with fresh, tasty Chinese cakes and buns that were flaky and light with great texture. I think that these types of cakes, as with many, are very sensitive to freshness as they seem to get hard and dry quickly, but at some Chinese bakeries the cakes always seem like that. Here, when we’ve gone, we always have had nice, fresh ones with great consistency. There are always some old locals playing games and drinking tea, too, although we’ve always just gotten our cakes and eaten them on the go. Prices are also pretty low.

Nestled in the heart of China Town sits Blossom Bakery. While I can’t say i’m a Chinese pastry expert, I can say that I was very pleased with my experience. We stumbled upon Blossom Bakery while touring China Town just this past week. While strolling through the streets we passed several bakeries which didn’t appeal to us very much, but when we noticed Blossom’s was filled with elderly Chinese gentlemen enjoying their afternoon tea, we knew we’d hit the motherload! We had eggs tarts, a Chinese-style Napoleon and one other unidentified pastry. All were fresh and delicious. I’m grateful that I don’t live in San Francisco because places like this would surely affect my waist-line in a negative fashion.

Cute little bakery. I don’t speak Toisan, so they had to find the one person in their store who spoke English. They were really nice regardless and had great Cha Siu Baos. I bought 35 baos for like $ 20 and everyone at the potluck loved them.

Yummy cocktail buns! At 45 cents each, they are a cheap breakfast item that goes great with coffee. I’ve been coming to this place for years and it’s still good! Don’t get intimidated by the old Chinese folks sitting around sipping on their coffee, the staff is pretty nice and very efficient.

So many bakeries in chinatown but finding a good one is actually quite a task. There are so many choices now with lots of variations and combinations but the two most basic and popular buns are pineapple bun and cocktail bun. If made and baked right, these buns can take you to cloud nine. I haven’t been to this bakery for 20+ years. Once upon a time, it was named the Fortune Bakery and owned by my brother-in-law’s family. Situated in the middle of Waverly off from the main traffic, this bakery is more a local hang out. They carry mostly the more basic buns and traditional pastries and cakes. We decided to try their cocktail bun($ 0.45). Pulled from the warmer, the bun was soft and warm. What makes the cocktail bun is the filling and this was delicious! Unlike other places where you have to bite into the very center for the filling, the one here almost had filling from the very first to the very last bite. The filling was warm, slightly sweet and gooey/chewy — a true perfect combination to the soft warm bun. Can’t wait to try their pineapple bun.

Walking around Chinatown can be tiring especially if it’s hot and oh boy was it hot the last couple of days. By the time we got to Waverly Place, not only were we hungry but we were also thirsty. We came into Blossom Bakery to check out what they had. For a Chinese bakery located in Chinatown, the variety was definitely not as extensive as it could have been especially to compete with other bakeries around. They had the usual ‘paper wrapped’ sponge cake, bbq pork pastries, almond cookies… all of which were average. There were not a lot of people inside the bakery and the few who were there were trying to organize having their wedding cake done by them. The bakery has some tables and chairs and is relatively clean for a Chinatown establishment.
