Three stars for the odd atmosphere here. It does not feel like a bakery instead it’s very cold and too cool for school. After we went to Tartine I wanted to just come scope this out on a full stomach. The pastries looked beautiful, we got a strawberry lemonade which was super sweet and I bought a pack of pâté de fruits for $ 8. The candies taste like a drop of jam — delicious with great texture. I would highly recommend.

I love this place! They have a huge collection and their presentation is out of this world. Every item I have tried is unique. Highly recommend it!

The Rebel Within is magical, but limited to breakfast hours. Know now that this spot has basically no signage, so go there looking for the numbered address because the only way I realized I was in the right place was a sandwich board outside. Turns out, I walked past it several times before visiting– and I’m convinced it made the difference between getting to try their most popular treat. Womp womp. That said, this review still has four stars, so obviously C&W is no one hit wonder. I’m always a little cautious to try the kouign aman because so many places do it poorly(if at all), but here it is a work of art– layers and sugar and layers and sugar and crunch and chew and, just get one. You’ll thank me later. Another hit? The Stone. The deceptively simple name belies the complicated but coordinated cacophony of flavors inside this creamy little disc. Coffee mousse, coconut wafer, yuzu meringue?, and gianduja(a chocolate paste containing hazelnuts) all dance in a completely uncoordinated dance on your tastebuds. It’s one of the most confusing things I’ve ever tasted, but in a good way. It really kind of defies explanation. Get it. Can’t wait til my next SF trip to try a few more things. Despite not having the dish I came for, staff were friendly and helpful about guiding me through the things they did have in stock. Try to snag an outdoor seat, as the inside lighting isn’t that best for photos. Recommend pairing whatever you get with a couple of coffees.

I love sweets. If I play my cards right I can have more than one at a time. This trip? Yes. Mama had more than one! I was in heaven. Bliss I tell you. Bliss. The last time I was this excited to try a handful of desserts was when I drove all the way to Alexander’s Patisserie. We popped in when it wasn’t terribly crowded, which always works for me. I ordered almost everything they had and coffee. Five people, nine desserts, five forks, one table. It was on. I won’t break down each individual item but what I can say is the blueberry one? I’m glad I got 2. Forks were fighting for the last bite. It was intense. I almost lost an eye! Service was friendly, prices were what you’d expect to pay for this caliber of pastry, while metal softly played in the background. It was such a great experience. Make sure you check in so you can save 15%! Park on the street but don’t accidentally leave your younger daughter on Valencia by driving off before she gets in the car. Trust me on this. Life is meant to be enjoyed one sweet bite at a time in between all the hard days. Do it here. Thank me later. PS: my younger daughter is 18 so there’s that.

Must come here early to get their rebel within. Wait, what is rebel within? Asiago, sausage, green onion, soft-cooked farm egg. w/sea salt.($ 7.25) I love anything with a soft-boiled egg. I usually stopped by here to get that with a old brew or latte. Friendly staff and line goes by quick. Come holla at the rebel within.

Don’t know how many times I’ve walked past and missed this yummy spot? We stopped here after brunch next door and so glad we did. We tried the Blueberry tartlet, the kouign amann with blueberry jam, and fresh blueberries, the travel cake a roasted banana bread with a touch of coconut, toasted almond, and the vanilla éclair with apache apricots. Each was delicious in it’s own way. If I had room for only one more dessert… the apache apricots, vanilla éclair would be it. All were just the right amount of sweet. The kouign amann was weighty but with a surprise filling of blue berry heaven to balance it. The blueberry tarlet with that perfect ball of luscious creaminess! Ah… I would like to try more of their desserts and I will.

Don’t you wish aesthetics mean delicious because same… I am actually really surprised with the amazing reviews with this place. I had high hopes for this place after seeing the rebel within on ig. We got the earl grey tart, rebel within and the morning bun. My mom said the morning bun was not better than Starbucks morning buns. It was not buttery and scrumptious like a morning bun should be. I absolutely love earl grey so I had to get the tart. Although the mixture on top was good, overall, it did not feel like a complete dessert for it was just a shortbread cookie on the bottom with just some blueberries on top. Now, I understand this is SF but almost 10 dollars for this is crazy. The rebel within is nothing special. Yes, it has the egg but the muffin itself doesn’t have much flavor. We got three things and a latte and the total came to almost $ 30. + the staff wasn’t friendly. There’s plenty of great bakeries in SF at a much better price. I am sad to say that I was very let down here.

You know the feeling when you have such good food words can’t describe it? Pretty sure I had my first dessert orgasm here with the Stone dessert. The one I had included whipped coffee, coconut, gianduja, and yuzu. It was incredibly creamy. The yuzu in the middle brought a nice tarty kick, and the coconut wafer at the bottom helped balanced out the creaminess. 10/10+++ I will be coming back to try more, as the ambience of this location is also quite nice.

C&W is like walking into a Pinterest virtual reality… mystically industrial chic décor with exposed brick walls and tall shadowy ceilings; dustless shelves of sipping chocolate and housemade milk jams; ravishingly beautiful pastries in minimalist arrangements under display cases, looking more like a museum exhibit than a bakery. (++) The Rebel Within with asiago, sausage, green onion, soft cooked egg($ 8) |(Comes with a vial of pink salt, which I skipped because the muffin was already too salty for me.) As C&W’s signature item, it’s a unique savory muffin that definitely catches everyone’s attention on social media. However, beyond the excitement of the sagittal dissection, watching the runny yolk flow, and taking a picture that makes you popular on Instagram, I didn’t find anything particularly outstanding. Although the pure aesthetics and the technique to achieve this composition evidences expertise, from a culinary perspective it did not taste any more complex than an egg and a muffin.(I actually ate the egg separately because the muffin was difficult to cut… what treason!) The Rebel Within would be much more interesting if it were bite-sized – perhaps with a quail egg – so you could pop the egg in your mouth. As for the muffin itself, it was mostly unremarkable. For savory muffins, I definitely prefer Andytown’s cornbread muffins which have much more dimension in flavor. (+) Whipped coffee, coconut gianduja, yuzu($ 7) | The soft, fluffy texture was remarkable: somewhere between a marshmallow and a cake. The coconut base was tasty, like housemade granola in cookie form and blended with coconut. On the other hand, the rest of this«stone pastry» was rather underwhelming, as I couldn’t taste much of the coffee or yuzu. (+/-) Lemon saffron tea cake, poppy crumble($ 4) | It’s complicated– First bite: omg obscenely sweet. The extra glaze is very excessive. More bites: ehh, I guess it’s alright, but tastes mostly like a lemon cake Finishing up: hmm, I guess the poppyseed shortbread is creative, but it’s still too sweet Afterthought: wait a minute, wasn’t this a tea cake? Didn’t taste any tea, and noticeable saffron would be wishful thinking. Not terrible, but considerably less outstanding than their more famous items. I also noticed some enticing items on sale, such as confiture café au lait and matcha milk jam. It looked very good but the $ 12 pricetag is steep for the small bottle, and there was no expiration date. The verdict? This bakery boutique is overpriced, but could be worth it if soft-boiled-egg-embedded muffins sound exciting to you. At the end of the day though, I think B. Patessirie and Tartine have better patisserie skillz as well as more consistency across their offerings(i.e. almost no disappointments in anything you try – no tea cake tantrums). Note: If you like the bouge atmosphere/foodie-ness of it all, I recommend Dandelion Chocolate next door which has a similar ambiance.

I stopped by for breakfast when my dog had to get a procedure next door at Mission Pet Hospital. i was pleasantly surprised! I ordered their yogurt with granola and fruit & the rebel within(the salty muffin). Both were excellent and way too much food for one person! I’m normally not a huge pastry fan but I really really liked the salty muffin. It has a soft boiled egg surprise on the inside! It’s quite heavy so be prepared to be extremely full(of energy). I was also quite surprised by the price of the muffin, but I guess it’s quite popular as I heard people ordering it left and right as I stuffed myself with 900 calories of muffin goodness. The granola with yogurt was a much healthier and lighter option. Although, the granola wasn’t light either. It’s definitely much better for your body and not too sweet. I liked both, next time I will order one meal instead of two: P I’ll be back, salty muffin!

I can only associated Craftsman and Wolves with Rebel Within. But of course when I went on an early afternoon, it was all sold out. Instead, I opted for the«stone» and an éclair to go. The stone is this beautiful coffee cream sphere that looks like a stone. It’s silky, smooth, creamy, with the right amount of coffee and citrus. Even the cookie made of coconut flakes underneath is delicious. Probably the best dessert I’ve had this year. I took the éclair home to share with my husband and kids. The kids made me eat the pistachios on top(green stuff on a dessert, ewwww!) By the time I turned around for my portion of the éclair, it was all gone. I assume it was as tasty as it was pretty. But you can only get so much descriptions out of kids — did you like it? Yes, it’s yummy. what’s in it? I dunno.

Yum! We came here after a filling brunch at Foreign Cinema and got the whipped coffee, yuzu filling and coconut crisp bottom… dessert? Pastry? I dont know what it is considered but it was so good(but it was $ 7 so a bit pricey)! I want to come back and try the Rebel that everyone raves about! Tip: Check in on Unilocal for 15% off!

This review comes with a caveat — I came here in the late afternoon so, as is with most bakeries, all of the best pastries are gone. I also came here after having two kid scoops of ice cream so this may have altered my palette. I did end up ordering the cube cake and asiago prosciutto twist. Didn’t get the famous muffin with the perfect yolk on the inside. :(but next time for sure! Environment is adorable, love the plates that the pastries get served on, love the cutesy little tables outside of the shop. Staff was very patient as I fretted back and forth deciding what the order because my insatiable sweet tooth wants a taste of anything & everything. Cube cake had some passion fruit filling inside. Very interesting combination of flavors(not my thing personally [just thought it was ok], but it could be yours so I encourage you to try it). Beautiful presentation. Consistency is delicate and pleasant. Asiago twist wasn’t as flaky and buttery as I was hoping it to be. A bit firmer than expected and the prosciutto slice is more towards the center of the twist so I didn’t notice that flavor for the longest time. I really did like the taste of the asiago and prosciutto together but not huge on the texture(it did get softer towards the center though). Also beautiful presentation. Overall, an okay experience so far. I’ll have to come back at some other time to give it another try!

Craftsman and Wolves is a cute and hipster-ish café in the Mission that serves breakfast, lunch, bakery items, and coffee. As you stand in line to order, you’ll get to check out all the delicious bakery items you can stuff into your mouth after you pay. Seriously, everything looked so drool-worthy! After you pay, grab a seat at the counter or at the table. It’s first come first serve, so when it gets busy, you might have to wait a little! They don’t have waiter service, so you’ll have to go up to the counter to grab your food and clean up after yourself. Their Latte($ 4) was delicious and very pretty for pictures. Their Warm Salted Butter Caramel with caramelized croissant chips($ 4.50) was a delight to drink. It is in a smaller cup, but it comes with two pieces of «chips.» The chips were way too sweet for me, so I didn’t finish it. But I’m sure it’s perfect for someone with a sweet tooth!

Such a neat bakery! Everything here looked amazingly delicious. There’s some seating both inside and outside and wasn’t too crowded on a weekend afternoon. The Rebel Within($ 7) is worth the hype. It’s a sausage, green onion, and asiago muffin with a soft boiled egg inside. It also comes with a small vial of pink salt which adds great flavor. One of the most unique and tasty pastries I have tried. I wouldn’t eat here too often because things are on the pricier side but overall I recommend trying The Rebel Within.

4.5 stars. I’ve always heard good things about Craftsman and Wolves, and I finally got around to checking it out. It’s pretty spacious inside, with some communal benches /tables. Of course, I had to try the famous rebel within, but I also couldn’t resist getting a chocolate ganache kouign amann. The rebel within — Absolutely delicious! I will love anything with a soft-boiled egg inside. Since I was eating it there, they offered to heat it up for me. The outer muffin was savory, light, and cheesy with bits of ham. The egg inside mine was only slightly runny, which I was okay with since that made it less messy. I saw another group nearby with a few rebel withins though, and it seems like the runniness of the yolk is pretty inconsistent unfortunately… Oh, they also give you a cute little vial of spicy salt to go with it! Chocolate ganache kouign amann — Paradise. The outer shell is crispy with a thin layer of caramelized sugar, and the layers inside are airy and just the right amount of sweetness. There is only a small amount of chocolate ganache filling in the center though, but the entire thing was great. It’s going to be a struggle to resist coming back here all the time now!

LOVELOVELOVE this place! It is such a cute, little shop in the heart of the Mission and they serve only the most beautiful looking pastries! I came here on a Sunday morning and it was pretty crowded. We stood in line for about 10 mins, but were easily able to find a seat for 2. People are in and out of here fast so I don’t think it ever takes too long to find a seat. We ordered 4 pastries: 2 savory, 2 sweet. We were starving so this was around the right amount for us, but you could get away with just ordering 3 dishes for 2 people if you’re not famished. I can’t really decide my favorite, I loved them all! We got the savory tart(carrots & savory kumquats), the quiche, the chocolate ganache Kouign Amann, and a dark chocolate and passion fruit cube cake. My tummy was so happy at the end of the meal and just thinking about it again makes me want to go back! I do wish the rebel within did not have sausage in the batter, but we don’t get everything we want. There still are enough choices if you’re vegetarian! I will be back!

To me, runny egg yolk is a beautiful thing, so I LOVED the Rebel Within muffin. Admittedly it’s pretty pricey at $ 7.25, but I thought it was worth it for runny egg yolk enthusiasts like myself. The muffin came with a vial of salt(either Tobasco salt or pink Himalayan salt), but I didn’t think it was completely necessary with the natural saltiness of the yolk. I saved half of it in the fridge for the next day, and surprisingly it still tasted great cold. Also tried the hibiscus/lychee mousse/earl grey cookie dessert in the case, which was light but amazingly flavorful and perfectly sweet. SO good! I’ll definitely be back for more cute pastries!

Finally got to try this place when a friend and I were«bakery hopping» on our day off(we hit Tartine Bakery in the same day hehe). Of course I ordered the famous«Rebel Within»($ 7.25). I also got a twice baked croissant($ 4) to go to share with the bf later. I cut into the warm muffin and was welcomed by an oozing yolk… Yes!!! After snapping lots of photos, I finally got to dig in. The asiago, sausage, and green onion muffin was amazeballs. It probably would have been tasty on its own but the soft cooked egg cradled in the middle was the cherry on top of a perfectly baked cake! I also loved the tiny container of red sriracha salt on the side. I sprinkled most of it on my muffin and it added a small kick to it. Later when I got back home, I finally got to try the twice baked croissant. It’s a rather large size but I pretty much devoured half in seconds. It was cut in half and filled with hazelnuts and dates. It’s a bit harder than your average croissant(hence, twice baked), but still delicious. My bf microwaved his half and he said it was really good when warm! Service was actually less personable than expected(surprisingly I didn’t even get a smile… /:), but i’m glad they ask if you want your baked goods heated up or not. Also a Unilocal tip: check in on Unilocal for 15% off!

Went here for breakfast and was blown away by how yummy everything was. The Rebel Within was probably one of the most amazing breakfast pastries I have ever eaten in my life. It was a muffin with sausage and onions and an egg baked inside. Super filling. The prosciutto twist was also delicious! Topped off the breakfast with a cup of their drop coffee. A bit pricey, but so worth it!!!

We went there to drink a hot chocolate with friends and had a very good experience! The hot chocolate is made with real chocolate, is very thick and comes in a fancy plate and with marshmallow. We also ate the chocolate sourdough bread with passion fruit jelly — the best jelly I have ever tasted! Besides that, the place is very beautiful, modern and fancy. The service is good. I definitely recommend this place!
