I work across the street and I love this place. The food is healthy and well cooked. Hosts are always around to provide outstanding service.

Very average place to quick eat and work on. Tasty chicken wrap for sure. I’ve never tried beef and lamb, because i just dont think its a good place for beef and lamb. But i can surely say that chicken wrap plate is beautiful and tasty !

Like a lot of places on Unilocal, reading the reviews pretty quickly reveals who knows what they’re doing and who likes generic places like Oasis(did you notice their ad at the top of the page? hmmm) and La Med. The«gyros»(which, incidentally, is Greek and isn’t pronounced«DJY-row») are indeed nothing to write home about, and the lavashes are more bread and less filling. Go to Truly Mediterranean on 16th Street for that stuff. What you want to be eating here is the«appetizer plate». You get a vast array of fantastic salads, including cacik(which is «tzatziki» on Greek menus), two great eggplant salads, nice couscous and tabbouleh, and a really spicy salad. I don’t know what it’s called because, as reviewers have pointed out, a lot of the servers and managers are unfriendly. The owner seems to float between this shop and the one at Civic Center, and he’s the least friendly of them all(but really not a bad guy if you don’t irritate him). Finally, any review that doesn’t cover their baklava is not to be trusted. It’s not the best in the world, but it’s probably the best in town. It’s definitely more authentic than most other techhipster lunches polluting downtown these days.

The beef and lamb gyro plate comes with salad, bread, rice, and hummus. The slices of meat were warm but dry and not very flavourful. I could barely differentiate the beef from the lamb. The salad comes with a sour dressing that does not complement very well with the rest of the meal. There was nothing special about the bread and hummus. There were a lot of small tables but very few customers eating in.

I would say it’s an ok place to eat a lamb and beef gyro… the sandwich wrap was already read, they just put it on the heater grill with an aluminum foil around to keep the heat and they serve it. Result: bread it hard and meat is dry… not much inside besides meat and lettuce, I was missing some tomatoes at least or bell pepper. It was ok! Also they serve fries if you eat on spot, if you take out fries are considered a side and it’s $ 3 more.

I used to go here at min once a week… the food WAS good. I’ve been there more than 50 times in the last year. The food was good. Today I got the my dish with not well cooked meat for the very first time. It has never happened before. I’ve never left my plate with any leftovers. Today I couldn’t continue. It WAS really value for money and I felt it was a family run business with their family name riding on the quality. Today they disappointed me big time. Maybe that’s why all we prefer fast-food chains which provide consistent crappy quality when we are not so sure of these mom-pop restaurants. Disappointed … disappointed… disappointed… Today it showed me the single«$» quality.

Certainly the best restaurant to patronize. I started feeling hungry right after coming out of the gym. Sure enough, my cravings for Mediterranean cuisine came in. Gyros sound delicious, this is when I came into Gyro King. The three images depicting meals they serve was something that grabbed my attention. After stepping in and looking through the menu, I ordered the Lamb and Beef Gyro Sandwich. This item came with French fries on the side. It was simply a delicious two item meal. I enjoyed it and finished the food on the plate. Lavash bread: Very soft and chewy texture, excellent for gyros Meats: I like how two kinds of meats are being used. This gives the sandwich a meaty and flavorful taste. Also, I found the meats to be very tender, juicy and delicious. Thank you for the delicious Gyro lunch meal, Gyro King! Overall: — good food — good service — clean facility — friendly staff I do have to give bonus points to the guy preparing the food. He is super fast! I am very happy with my first experience here. Craving for Mediterranean cuisine? Feel free to come to Gyro King. There are chairs and tables available for customers eating in.

Went to grab a quick togo for dinner. It was raining and was craving some gyros and came across this place. Pretty dead on a Friday night. I ordered the lamb and beef gyro and a side of fries. Portion was super big, but unfortunately the meats were too rough and the yogurt sauce was tasteless. Fries were good though! Freshly fried, so was crispy and hot. Overall, Oasis Grill is still the best and my number one go to. Probably won’t come here again.

I ordered Chicken Gryo Sandwich… It had lettuce, chicken and the yogurt. That’s it. Bland and flavorless. It was the most boring lunch I have ever had in this area. Cost: $ 8.65 I expected more than that. Other fillings, seasoning or something?!? Boring.

I love the owner here — from Turkey. It’s a great spot! I will go all the time. Makes fresh baklava every day.

The gyro just wasn’t up to the level I’ve had before. The beef & lamb was under-seasoned and the veggies were too tangy which overpowered the overall flavor. The ratio of meat to veggies was about a 3:7. Overall, I don’t think I’m coming back. I’ll stick to Oasis Grill and Daphne’s for my gyros.

My coworkers seemed to think the gyros they got were better than others they have had. I on the other hand thought my Lamb and Beef gyro was bland. I didn’t really taste any of the tomato, mostly just lettuce and meat. Thank god for the hot sauce.

The restaurant is near our school. It is very popular. The environment is nice and the waiters are so kind. We ordered lamb and beef gyro platter. They are all delicious. You should go there and have a taste.

This place is just ok. I came here to get a quick bite to eat for lunch, I ordered the chicken kebab wrap to go. The cook was really nice and told me that it wouldn’t be that quick and would take about ten minutes to make. I appreciated that he kept me updated. And on the bright side, the chicken kebab is fresh. The wrap itself was not bad. The chicken kebab was flavorful and juicy. However, I am giving this place three stars because it was mostly saladin my wrap. There were maybe four chicken kebabs in the wrap and it wasn’t a small wrap. That seems to be a complaint I’ve seen in the rest of the Unilocal reviews too. I guess this place just skimps on meat. Also, I think that if you eat in, they add fries to your order. Otherwise if you do take out, fries are an extra $ 3. That’s ok with me, prevents me from eating those extra carbs. I think I will probably not come back here, because I can get more for my lunch money at other places in FiDi.

Gyro King is NOT the king when it comes to Gyros. I didn’t expect much from here and I’m glad I didn’t because my prediction turned out to be true! I was starving after HH and needed something to eat FAST. Fortunately, this was across this street from where I was. I ordered two Chicken wraps for $ 22 and I thought it was bit pricey for a wrap with meager ingredients. I wouldn’t recommend this joint if you have some time or want some good food. I will not be back.

Thoroughly unimpressed. I’ve had Gyro King twice now via catered work lunches and neither experience did it for me. The first time, I ordered a falafel wrap without the yogurt sauce and sure enough it was still there. The second time, I ordered the same and did get it without yogurt sauce this time. However, the lavash wrap was very sparsely filled and with very basic, unoriginal ingredients. With the other far superior competitors in the area, Sunrise and even Ayola, it’s a wonder this place is still here.

Got some kind of chicken salad there. The veggies were fresh thankfully but the meat was pretty gross. Super dry, weird taste to it. Threw more than half of it out. 1 star for the veggies being fresh. 2nd star because my bf enjoyed his gyro haha. He said it was not bad! But… he’s not too picky when he comes to his food so take his word with a grain of salt haha. Will NOT be back.

I was extremely underwhelmed. The meat is not very good and there is barely any of it in the gyro sandwiches. The wrap is huge and there is a lot of lettuce, but I didn’t pay $ 8 and change for a wrap with lettuce and a little meat. The sandwich comes with a few fries included. A few of my fries were soggy and not crisp. That just shores up my 2 star rating. It would have been two stars even if all the fries were perfect. There is no way I’m going back. I wouldn’t even go back to give it another try. It didn’t seem like an off day, it just seemed like this was the norm. No way should this place be called the Gyro King.

Gyro King? A fitting name would be ‘Gyro Jester’ because it’s a joke of a place. I’ve probably eaten here(all take-outs) a total of three times when I didn’t feel like eating in our work cafeteria. The previous times I was here were both ordinary and nothing to remember them by. The last time I was here, I ordered their Lamb & Beef Gyro($ 8.95) to go. Their version of a Gyro is wrapped in a Lavash Bread with Tomatoes, Mixed Greens and Tzatziki Sauce with your choice of protein of Lamb & Beef, Lamb, Chicken or Beef. They also have Falafel and Eggplant for their vegetarian version. I’m not a frequent customer here so I don’t know if they get real busy during lunch time, but the guys working the counter always wants to rush your order and aren’t the nicest people around. They are always in a hurry to take your order so they can go to the next customer and move the line going. When I was in line, they were only a few people in line and it wasn’t packed unlike Sushirrito on the other block. Yeah, a typical transaction took place instead of an interaction between a customer and an employee representing their establishment. So I when I took their Gyro back to my office and began eating it, I noticed that there were hardly any meat inside and all I was eating was bread. I kept having flashback of the«Where’s the beef?» commercial from Wendy’s back in the 80’s. For those of you young folks that don’t get the reference, here’s the clip: Yeah, like a Jester would say, «The joke was on me.» Notch it up as a lesson learned and never come here again. There are more and better options out there in the Downtown, FiDi and SOMA district.
