Sad that they’re closed. I went here once and purchased a big box full of goodies like their pop tarts, morning rolls, and other golden goodness. I couldn’t stop adding items to my box because everything looked so good. The prices were very reasonable. I’ve been to other places that easily charge a couple of bucks more. They were hidden in the back of Local Mission Eatery that is also now closed. I cannot type anymore, I’m too sad.

Pastry stand in the back on Local Mission Eatery. I’ve had the pomme d’amour which is like crème brûlée chinese custard bun meets a kouign amann. Custard was a nice burnt caramel and really rich. It’s sweet but not overwhelmingly so and the caramelization adds more depth to it rather than a flat sugariness. Outer pastry was layers of flaky pastry dough and crispy exterior. The chocolate croissant is a misnomer because it definitely leans more towards the bready side and puts the pain in pain au chocolat. This thing is a beast and even holding it felt it like had significant heft. Exterior is slightly burnt, has a nice firm crispness to it with a chewy, gooey inner layer of pastry. The pastry is very buttery, dense, and doughy. A good amount of chocolate inside, dark and bittersweet. If you’re looking for a light, airy pastry this is not it. You will feel full or at least satiated afterwards and it’s practically be a meal in itself(trying not think about the caloric value here…). Overall, I wasn’t blown away but it’s a solid patisserie and good value for the price. Probably more like 3.5 stars. If you’re looking to avoid the lines at Tartine, this is almost as good(but just barely) without any wait and slightly cheaper.

Oh, yeah. That Pomme D’Amore is off the hook. I thought it might be too sweet. It is not. I thought it might be too rich. It is not. I thought it might be too bready. It is not. This fabulous crème brûlée & pastry concoction is smooth & light. How they manage this I do not know. Heavenly creaminess that has just a hint of sweetness offset by a crisp & tender pastry shell. We scarfed this baby down while we were in line at Philz next door. And it wasn’t a long line. Has the Kouign-Amann met its match? The bakery is a tiny storefront at the rear of Local Mission Eatery. It’s rustic, modern, & charming. I know the croissants are fabulous as well, but they were sold out. So we nabbed an almond stick & an oatmeal walnut cookie. After collecting our coffees from Philz, we devoured the almond stick while we crossed the street to our car, & the oatmeal walnut cookie was polished off once we got in the car. Chewy tasty goodness. Crisp in all the right places, chewy in all the right places. Nothing cloying. Nice & clean. We consumed everything before we started the ignition. Go early, so that you may have the full arsenal of bliss from which to choose from. I’m still a little sad I didn’t get a butter pecan croissant. But I will. 5 stars.

Such a disappointment!!! Ugh I’ve been wanting to come here ever since I saw it on Unique Sweets on the Cooking channel. But I was not happy with this bakery. First off it’s really hard to find with a tiny sign, then the place it’s self isn’t even a full restaurant it’s a small pop up like counter with the pastries on display. We got there right when it opened and the staff was really unfriendly… The Pom de more and lemon pop tart were good. However, I got a butter croissant and a chocolate croissant and they were both over cooked, even burned in some areas. And The coffee was awful, I poured it out and that says a lot because I hate wasting money. I will not be returning!

During the day, Knead Patisserie opens in the back of the Local Mission Eatery with a nice selection of tasty pastries. If you’re in the area, sure, stop by! I’d recommend grabbing Philz from next door unless you love Four Barrel. The pastries we had were among the best I’ve had in SF. We had the croissant and the honey biscuit. The biscuit was perfectly sweet, though it was a touch too oily. I appreciated having a place to sit, but I’m not sold on the atmosphere. It’s noisy, not particularly cozy, but still on the verge of claustrophobic.

A great recommendation from one of my friends. Knead Patisserie is hidden in the back of another eatery, Local Mission(or attached to – I’m not entirely sure). Once you’re there, take time to marvel at all the delicious pastries in front of you. I got one pomme d’amore here right after it was brought out from the oven, and my friend had the fleur de sel cookie, which is just a salted caramel macaroon. They were about $ 3-$ 4 each – no qualms whatsoever. How do I describe the pomme d’amore? If a crème brûlée, pastry puff, egg custard, and apple pie had an orgy in a bed of happiness, this might just be the result. I typically would go back to get a different pastry(perhaps a croissant), but I’m going back to stuff my face with these pillows of heaven.

Pomme de amores are soooo delish. Its like a crème brûlée inside a crispy pastry dough… I also tried the lemon poppyseed pound cake, it wasn’t bad but on the dry side. Snicker doodle cookie was good. Minus two stars– 1 because coffee is horrible. Horrible horrible. Maybe it was a bad day, not sure.(Almost watered down tasting and stored in a metal pitcher so it has a metallic taste…) And minus the 2nd star because of location. Horrible parking and kind of a sketchy area. I’ll stop by again to grab a pomme de amore or two to go, if I have someone w me to drive around while I run in.

My love of Knead Patisserie croissants is over. Today’s cream croissant was limp from being refrigerated after baking. The inside was slightly chilled. On a previous trip, I found the chocolate croissant I purchased also to be poor with very meager portions.

I stopped in during my solo bakery tour of SF. I asked what they were known for and the lady pointed at the Pomme d’Amour(am I spelling that right?). So yeah, I said, hook me up with one of those, a biscuit and a cherry scone. Gimme a little variety to nibble on. The Pomme WAS the main event, but I’m not big on custard, so I kinda ate around the big gooey part in the middle. It was SO good, though! It tasted like a crème brûlée crossaint with a salted caramel drizzle. The biscuit needs to be heated up, I’ve only had a bite, so I’m not sure about it yet. The scone was very good for a scone, I’m not big on those either, I got it for my boyfriend and then he informed me that he doesn’t like cherries. :/I enjoyed it, though, it’s like a sweet, dense cookie with fresh cherries baked into it. Thumbs up to this awesome place. Keep on keepin on. :)

So good. This shop is inside Local Mission Eatery. Very cute place which I will have to check out some other time. When I walked up to their area in the back of the resto, I was sad to see they didn’t have any pomme d’amours left. But luckily, I asked and they said they are fresh out of the oven and so were their buttermilk honey biscuits. The pommes were delicious. Kinda like a salty, caramel-y, Portuguese egg tart but with a more crème brûlée-like filling. Their biscuit had nice flavor but slightly underdone. It was doughy when I cut it open.

Pomme d’amore. That’s all you need to know. It’s as if a crème brûlée had a baby with salted caramel and a croissant. Ok, maybe a menage a trois between the three would be a better descriptor, but I think you get my point. At $ 3.75 per pastry, these babies aren’t cheap, but if you’re lucky, you’ll catch an Amazon Local deal for $ 27 for a dozen pastries of your choice. The other goodies have definite eye appeal, but are mediocre, especially in comparison to the Pomme d’amore, so skip them and go straight for the gold. Holding back my final Unilocal star because I’ve spotted flies keeping company around the uncovered pastries.

I just had to get back to back pastries and since this place was next to the seafood place, had to grab some sweets. I got one Pomme d’amore which is pretty much like a really sweet, creamy egg tart. It is alike an America egg tart since it is overly sweet and loaded with cream and butter. I prefer my Asian egg tart since this one wasnt very flakey and there was too much cream. I also got this one lemon turnover thing that was pretty average. Humph.

When it comes to straight-up restaurants, I take a more balanced approach to giving out stars. With bakeries however — which I love and, as a baker, care so much about — all they have to do is a home run with something and you have me a fan for life. In this case, in the middle of a Sunday morning doughnut crawl, we stopped in for a «bonus round.» The five of us decided we’d try one thing and it ended up being the honey buttermilk biscuit. OMG was that thing amazing. I love biscuits and this was a 100% winner. Buttery and rich, flaky and crumbly… super yum. I can’t wait to go back(on an emptier stomach) and get more of their baked goods. Way to go!

The BOMB. The. Best. Bakery. in. S. F mic drop seriously, this place is amazing — it’s literally right next door to the original Philz. So grab your Ether with skim and light sugar, and head over to Knead for some serious sustenance. Don’t let’s it’s schwanky interior deceive you, it’s a legit bakery — just head on back to manna from heaven. I literally got one of every thing — mama’s gotta eat. So here is the lowdown: — pomme d’amore: FAVE of the FAVEs. it tastes like a stick of butter whipped into light eggy frenzy, stuffed in a croissant shell and blasted at the top for a nice little carmelization. OMG, so so so so good. — pecan croissant: unlike others who rave, this was my least favorite… but still VERY good — crème filled croissant: the white fluffy crème was so light and subtlely sweet. It was like a crème puff but oh so much better — savory cheese and herb croissant: OHGAWD… THATWASSOGOOD. Insanely insanely good. I don’t usually like these as they are heavy on the crusty cheese and the pastry becomes doughy. Not this, this was flaky and butter and savory. Even if you don’t like savory breakfast pastries, you NEED to taste this. The place is so empty on a week day — WHY oh WHY? Why stay in that insane line at Tartine’s when the Knead is so pretty and you can get an awesome seat AND an awesome croissant. Then again, I like that it’s empty, it can be my little SF secret.

As everyone says, pomme d’amore!!! It is definitely worth the hype and cost($ 3.75). Even though I got it over a month ago, I can still remember the initial excitement my taste buds felt as I took my first bite. Just talking about it makes me salivate :(I can’t wait to come back to get more! Other than that, the environment is very cozy and inviting. They also have a lunch menu which surprised me because I thought it was just a bakery. After grabbing that pomme d’amore, go to Philz coffee next door for the best coffee ever:)

POMME D’AMORE!!! This is easily the best things I’ve ever ordered at any patisserie! Knead does a good job with their other pastries, but I will come in again and again for the Pomme alone. We recently bought 40 of them for our closest friends and family. In that moment I could do no wrong. We were the most loved humans to have ever walked the face of the planet. In fact, you could easily be the next president of the United States if you can afford a Pomme d’ Amore for 50% of the electoral… I’m assuming that you mom will vote for you too and that will give you the majority… but now that I think of it you don’t deserve your mom’s vote if you fail to secure a Pomme for her as well… the could part about this plan is that you could literally run on any ticket or any platform and still get elected… it’s worth contemplating! For those unfamiliar with this flagship pastry, it is essentially a circle of flaky, buttery croissant prepared in a manner that allows it to hold a single serving of crème brulee. But wait, there’s more! The crème brulee sits atop a thin layer of salted caramel… entirely otherworldly! Knead is located in the back of Local Mission Eatery. LME is worth checking out too while you’re in the vicinity.

POMME D’AMORE, I need you in my life… everyday. Please come to Los Angeles!!! I HAD to make a pit stop to Knead Patisserie while I was in SF. I saw photos of the pomme d’amore and my mouth just couldn’t stop salivating(like a dog). It tasted just like the pictures… Every bite was heavenly. I ate 2 in a day. I don’t care how many calories this was. it was heaven.

***SERIESOFEVENTS*** Susy C. drives Justin Y. and Jessica Y. to Knead Patisserie and aggressively meter parks nearby. Susy: «We’ll take the last two Pomme D’amore’s. Perfect» Some lady behind us glares at us for taking the last ones. #noshame #letsgetdowntobusiness We scurry outside to the juice shop across the street. I took a bite of a Pomm D’amore( ) and realized there was like an entire portion of crème brûlée inside this flaky, sticky pastry. Within the first bite. WOW, so good. Then also realized there was light oozing caramel dripping out onto the floor from my pastry. Oh my god, so this is what heaven tastes like. Sad that my pastry was finished and also consumed my entire caloric/sugar intake for the day(maybe even more). We are all happy. Life is good. The end.

No I did not come for brunch, where the pastries at? in the back!!! If you come early im sure there are more selections sadly 30min before closing you are limited to what others have abandoned or did not ask for. I see all the tags of deliciousness lined up against the wall, sadly if the tags are against the wall it means they are out of that item, chocolate bread pudding screams of a noooo come from my wife since they are out, I snicker then smile I feel daggers in my back as I turn around haha. I come to realize the pomme de amore is also on the wall of tags of possible items fully consumed by todays masses, I ask and the pastry chef states I have two left, i’ll take both I say, greedly I take the last snickerdoodle, chocolate chip cookie, and one of the 4 madelines left on the trays! all their pasties are delicious, cookies wise snickerdoodle blows ms fields, anthonys, etc… the madeline had an odd lemon zest taste to it, same consistency of starbucks brand just taste wise very different, slightly oily like regular madelines the chocolate chip cookie was dense, heavy not like the snickerdoodle, full flavored semi sweet coco on every bite, for those that don’t like chocolate, don’t order it, for those that do its heavy chocolately deliciousness on every bite the snickerdoodle was fairly large, chewy, flavorful, sweet but not overpowering delicious for anyone that loves snickerdoodles the pomme de amore we took the last two and gladly will go back another day and take everything they have in stock if they let us, by far the best thing ive had in pastry form. Flaky outside like a crossant on the outside protecting a crème brûlée inside, wow is all I can say if you have money for just one item on their pastry menu I suggest the pomme de amore!!! pastries ***** price $ service **** ambiance **** eclectic, modern, fancy, you literally can not see the store front sign, inside on the other hand completely different persona

Best thing to get here is the Pomme D’Amour $ 3.75 ea. It’s a fat pastry that has a crème brûlée top, flaky outside, and cream inside. I got 2 the last time I was there and ate one right away. So good. The one I took home didn’t really make it. It was in a takeout box that got squished in my backpack. Best to eat it right away or bring your own sturdy container. If you really want the Pomme D’Amour call them before going to ask them to hold them for you, otherwise they can sell out & won’t make more!
